Chapter 31.1
“If you believe it’s true, then naturally it’s true. If you believe it’s false, then naturally it’s false. No matter how I explain, it won’t make any difference.”
Outside the door, Luo Yan heard the big villain reply in this manner.
From the big villain’s perspective… this answer was certainly brilliant and sharp, capable of perfectly handling Zhong Ting. However, from Luo Yan’s own perspective, it left her feeling neither happy nor disappointed. She had originally thought that, given the big villain’s personality, she would admit it openly; she hadn’t expected such an ambiguous response.
That feeling… was as if an Alpha of her status wasn’t fit for the public stage, yet she still hallucinated that the other would acknowledge her identity in front of so many people and give her a formal title. In reality, she felt like a jumping clown—hopping up and down, doing everything possible to please the Omega, only to be met with disregard in the end.
The big villain was indeed the big villain; her skill at manipulating hearts was impeccable.
Luo Yan lowered her eyelashes, turned, and walked away without listening further. Inside the ward, Xue Wu and Zhong Ting were still on the phone. Hearing Xue Wu’s answer, Zhong Ting couldn’t help but chuckle. “Teacher Xue, that answer is truly airtight. It leaves one no way to pry into anything.”
“Teacher Zhong, we are merely ordinary colleagues. These questions are far too private; I have no need to answer you.” Xue Wu was very clear in her heart and did not feel she owed Zhong Ting an account of her life. Seeing that the other had nothing more to say, she continued, “If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up.”
Hearing the phrase stating they were just “ordinary colleagues,” Zhong Ting let out a laugh. It turned out that in Xue Wu’s eyes, she was just such an ordinary person with no other connection.
This was truly… unexpected.
Zhong Ting felt a surge of indignation. She became increasingly convinced that the relationship between Xue Wu and that Luo Yan was not superficial. Last time during the university shoot, her plans were interrupted by that person, leaving her already dissatisfied. Now, Xue Wu once again categorizing her as an “ordinary friend” because of her was an even greater challenge to an Alpha’s pride.
If that Luo Yan were some powerful figure, she would naturally accept defeat gracefully. But clearly, she wasn’t. That Luo Yan was just an uneducated, spendthrift, playboy second-generation heir. To lose to such a person repeatedly—she simply couldn’t swallow this anger.
She also didn’t believe Luo Yan could bring Xue Wu any happiness, or even protect her. Wasn’t this recent incident proof? If it were her, how could she have let Xue Wu get into a car accident?
Unthinkable.
Yet now Xue Wu had met with misfortune, and her face was disfigured. Such a beautiful face ruined—it was truly a pity.
Now, her offer to see her face was heartlessly rejected, as if she were some kind of predatory beast. It was a classic case of her good intentions being treated like dirt.
But even so, Zhong Ting could not give her up. Of all the Omegas she had known, Xue Wu was the one who suited her best. Even if Xue Wu was currently obsessed with a useless Alpha, it didn’t mean she couldn’t fight for her.
After all, with the capability of a “trash” Alpha like Luo Yan… she certainly wouldn’t be able to hold onto Xue Wu. When the time came, she would just step in.
To be honest, normally she wouldn’t look twice at a “flawed” Omega, but the more something is unattainable, the more it stirs the heart. Even if Xue Wu was disfigured, once she was done toying with her, perhaps she wouldn’t remember her anymore.
After Xue Wu finished her call, Luo Yan waited a while before returning, but her expression was indifferent. The joyful mood she had earlier, wanting to share her news with Xue Wu, had completely vanished.
Xue Wu didn’t know what had happened to her, and appearing not to notice the change, she spoke with her for a while longer before becoming drowsy.
Some of the medications she was taking for her treatment had a sedative effect. Seeing her tired, Luo Yan said, “It’s lunch break time anyway; you should sleep.”
“If I sleep, is Yanyan going to leave again?” Xue Wu let out an elegant yawn and asked with some reluctance.
“I actually have class this afternoon and can’t stay here too long. Can I come back to see you tonight? I’ll bring you some delicious cake.” Luo Yan was indeed busy; besides class, she had to go to the venue for confirmation. She couldn’t stay by Xue Wu’s side for long.
Moreover, the Xin Jingchun matter had temporarily settled, and Xue Fu wouldn’t dare cause trouble in the short term. The big villain could have some peace for a while.
In that case, she naturally had to attend to her own affairs.
At the very least, she needed the capital to establish herself in this world so she wouldn’t be easily erased.
Xue Wu, however slow her reaction might be, felt that Luo Yan’s mood wasn’t very high. She wasn’t like this when she went out earlier. Was it because she was shy about her unbuttoning her clothes to apply medicine? Or was she jealous because she heard her talking to Zhong Ting? But… she didn’t say anything special to Zhong Ting.
If she couldn’t even handle her speaking a few random words to another Alpha, then after she was discharged and returned to the entertainment industry, dealing with all sorts of people, would she be jealous like this all the time? If this continued… she might as well be called the “Vinegar Queen” rather than the second heir of the Luo family.
Xue Wu felt that Luo Yan being so petty and sensitive wouldn’t do; she needed to give her the cold shoulder for a bit.
“Alright then, I’ll wait for you,” she said, without adding anything else.
Seeing that she had no intention of mentioning the matter with Zhong Ting, Luo Yan felt even more despondent. Her thoughts couldn’t pivot for a moment, yet she had no intention of bringing it up herself. She felt that mentioning it would make her seem petty and narrow-minded. She had to exercise restraint.
The atmosphere between the two stagnated, filled with an underlying oppression. Xue Wu, tucked under the quilt on the bed, watched the Alpha remain outwardly calm yet clearly lonely. She sighed inwardly. Before Luo Yan left, she dependently tugged at her sleeve. The meaning was clear: she wanted a goodnight kiss before she departed.
“This… didn’t we just kiss earlier?” Luo Yan laughed, finding the big villain quite clingy.
“The kiss earlier was for earlier. You haven’t kissed me now.” Her tone was quite self-assured.
“…Quite philosophical.”
Luo Yan finally pressed a gentle kiss onto her forehead. “See you tonight, Sister A-Wu.”
Only then did Xue Wu feel Luo Yan had returned to normal. However, she still felt a bit uneasy in her heart for some reason. She couldn’t resolve this feeling and could only watch her walk away step by step, a sudden sense of anxiety rising within her.
Luo Yan left the hospital quickly. Looking at the fine weather outside, her mood recovered a bit. Although the big villain hadn’t publicly acknowledged their relationship, at least they were truly together. That was enough.
A lucky “cannon fodder” like her shouldn’t dare to dream of too much.
Once Luo Yan thought this through, her mood completely brightened. She realized that many things couldn’t be forced. At this stage, the most important thing wasn’t romance, but her career.
“Second Miss, are we going to the venue now?” Zhao Xin asked dutifully after she came out.
“Yes.” Luo Yan nodded slightly after getting into the car, signaling the driver to head out.
The thing she had wanted to tell Xue Wu when she entered the ward was that she had advanced to the finals of the National Undergraduate Jewelry Design Competition she had entered earlier. Advancing to this stage meant having the chance to vie for the championship.
To be honest, before transmigrating, she had participated in many jewelry design competitions of all sizes. This national-level competition for students was a small matter to her; she knew that as long as she worked hard, she could go far.
However, humans always have vanity, and she was no exception. She had finally gotten together with the big villain, and it was her first romance; naturally, she wanted to tell Xue Wu the good news. She just hadn’t expected to be unable to say it.
This incident served as a constant reminder that her status in the big villain’s heart was only mediocre. In the future, when she recovers her memory and finds out she lied, she will undoubtedly deal with her ruthlessly. She couldn’t be too careless.
She also couldn’t trust the other party completely; she was just a cannon fodder after all.
Advancing to the finals indeed required on-site confirmation of identity and work, as well as guaranteeing the originality of the piece. Therefore, the organizers would later display the finalists’ works for public viewing, discussing the design meaning and whether they were truly original.
It had to be said, the pressure was quite high. However, letting everyone visit didn’t mean it was absolutely fair; there would surely be some drama. This competition seemed significant because it involved some of the career plotlines of the female lead, Xue Fu, so it was detailed in the book. Luo Yan remembered it quite clearly since it involved her own profession.
She remembered the book described scenes of people “tearing into each other” at the qualification site in previous years, and it had happened more than once.
Therefore, Luo Yan was psychologically prepared for someone to pick a fight.
The driver soon dropped her off at the registration site for confirmation. There were many people in the hall, but not many had truly advanced—only about 20 people. These 20 were the most qualified to move on to the next round.
The next round wouldn’t involve using the advancing piece to continue competing; instead, several themes would be set, ranging from difficult to easy. Whatever the theme, it would be decided by drawing lots. However, those ranked higher had priority in drawing, so the ranking in this preliminary round was quite important.
Luo Yan didn’t know her ranking yet; she would only find out once she got there. It was quite tense and exciting—
Fortunately, her class wasn’t until around 3 PM. Going now to confirm her eligibility and find out her rank before returning to school was more than enough time.
She arrived at the confirmation site quickly. It was a sea of people with few familiar faces. However, after looking around, she saw an unexpected figure: a female Omega who would later become Xue Fu’s exclusive jewelry designer. Currently, she was an obscure nobody, completely different from her spirited future self.
Luo Yan intended to befriend this female Omega. Her reason was simple: since she wanted to change her fate in the book, she had to do more things to make the plot deviate. Now that the female lead had just debuted and was busy with the “unspoken rules” scandal, she naturally had no time for this. It was the perfect time for Luo Yan to “pick up the pieces” and perhaps even win over the female lead’s future ally to work for her instead.
However, a sudden approach would surely trigger the other’s defenses. So, after confirming the Omega was indeed the important character from the book, Luo Yan retracted her gaze. She focused on the finalists’ jewelry designs being displayed on the large screen in the hall.
Most of the jewelry designs that advanced this time possessed a certain personality and quality; many works made her eyes light up. The original owner wasn’t mentioned during this time in the book, but she definitely hadn’t participated, otherwise she wouldn’t have lacked even a single skill to survive later when she was ruthlessly kicked out of the Luo Group.
Since she had replaced her, she couldn’t repeat those mistakes; she had to firmly grasp what belonged to her.
Luo Yan took many photos as she looked. She originally wanted to send them to Xue Wu—it’s human nature to share beautiful or interesting things with someone close—but looking at her chat log with the big villain, she ultimately gave up the idea. The big villain might not care about her minor competitions, and there was no need to disturb her rest.
Luo Yan’s mood dipped again. She felt that romance was truly draining; it was better to keep some distance.
Halfway through, she went to the restroom. On her way back, she heard filthy and nasty words coming from the corner behind the restroom. She smelled the aggressive scents of several Alphas, along with the scent of an Omega. Combined with the Alphas’ words, it wasn’t hard to conclude that an Omega was being humiliated.
Luo Yan’s heart sank, and her expression turned cold. Her instant impulse was to act and help, but then she realized that a sudden appearance might lead to trouble for the victim. She immediately calmed down to assess the situation and determine if she had the capability to help.
“Hahahaha, our luck is great today! Not only did we catch President Qiong, but we also ran into her heat. It wouldn’t be right if we didn’t serve her well, would it?”
“Big brother, how many marks do you think an Omega can take?”
“Are you talking about temporary marks or a permanent one?”
“Ah? We can actually give President Qiong a permanent mark?”
“Hahahaha, of course! President Qiong’s pheromones are so sweet, she can naturally be permanently marked!”
