Chapter 71

The doorbell had been ringing for a long time, but Su Ziqin pretended not to hear it, continuing to kiss Fu Qingyun without letting go.

“Little fox, the doorbell is ringing,” Fu Qingyun said, holding her.

Su Ziqin didn’t want to be disturbed. She looked at Fu Qingyun with an unhappy expression and said in an urgent, slightly whiny tone, “Even if the Emperor himself came, he can’t interrupt my heat vacation.”

Su Ziqin was very frank, even creating a new excuse for her time off. She kissed Fu Qingyun again, giving her a punitive bite on the lips. These past few days, whenever she was awake, Su Ziqin clung to Fu Qingyun like an octopus.

The doorbell stopped ringing. Relieved, Su Ziqin began pulling on Fu Qingyun’s nightgown. As Fu Qingyun’s shoulder strap slipped, Su Ziqin eagerly leaned in to kiss her pale shoulder.

“Tsk, tsk, tsk. I was wondering why you wouldn’t open the door. You’re busy kissing my daughter.” Fu Chenlan’s teasing voice came from the entryway.

When Su Ziqin heard the voice, she flinched and quickly pulled Fu Qingyun’s shoulder strap back up. She jumped off the sofa and gave Fu Chenlan an awkward smile. “Ahem, Mother, what are you doing here?”

“Look at you. You wouldn’t even give the Emperor face, let alone me.” Fu Chenlan stepped forward and helped Fu Qingyun up, looking at her daughter’s slightly swollen lips. “Tsk, tsk, tsk. Young people these days. I have to ask, daughter-in-law, are you a little too rough? Look at my little Yun’er’s mouth. What have you done to it?”

Wow, it’s rare to hear a parent say something so brazen. Su Ziqin moved closer to Fu Qingyun. Since Fu Chenlan was shameless, Su Ziqin saw no need to be modest herself. “Why did you come, Mother? You didn’t even knock and just…”

“Your doorbell is like a decoration. I rang it for half an hour, and this is the only response I get?” Fu Chenlan gave Su Ziqin a glare, then looked at Fu Qingyun in disappointment. “Little Yun’er, you’re an Alpha, yet you’re letting an Omega hold you down on the sofa to kiss… your shoulder!”

Seeing the fresh marks on Fu Qingyun’s shoulder, Fu Chenlan thought her daughter-in-law was a little too fierce. I’m glad I came in early. Otherwise, my daughter’s pretty dress would have fallen victim to this daughter-in-law’s evil hands.

Su Ziqin said grumpily, “Who knew you would show up on a weekend and disturb us?”

“Hey, hey, hey, you two. Check the time, okay? It’s five in the afternoon. Daughter-in-law, I didn’t know you were so fierce, holding my daughter down on the sofa and playing with her at five in the afternoon.”

Su Ziqin burst out laughing at the last two words. She didn’t have that ability. “What nonsense are you saying?” How did she say my greatest desire out loud?

Fu Qingyun, being the sensible one, had 12138 turn on the ventilation system. She poured Fu Chenlan a glass of water and had her sit on the sofa.

The two pheromones in the air had faded, and Fu Chenlan felt the air become a bit fresher. With the concentration of pheromones she had smelled, these two had definitely been very busy these past few days.

“Not fighting anymore?” Fu Chenlan looked at Su Ziqin with amusement. A few days ago, these two weren’t speaking to each other. It really was true that couples fight and then make up in bed. But how did my daughter, this little block of wood, finally open up?

Fu Chenlan looked at Fu Qingyun’s calm expression with suspicion. She understood. This little fool hasn’t fully opened up yet, but my daughter-in-law has definitely had a good time these past few days.

“On a Saturday, you came all the way to our house to check on our family harmony?” Su Ziqin laughed. “Well, you see, we’re very harmonious.”

Su Ziqin held Fu Qingyun’s hand, lacing her fingers with hers so tightly that they couldn’t be pried apart.

Fu Chenlan looked at their clasped hands with disdain. Will my little fool be bullied by my daughter-in-law in the future? Fu Chenlan thought, patting Fu Qingyun on the shoulder. “Little Yun’er, the Alpha’s place… is a bit tight. You can’t be reckless, you hear?”

“Cough, cough, cough.” Su Ziqin choked on her words. Fu Chenlan’s mouth was something else… Su Ziqin covered her mouth, her eyes a little shifty. “You’re overthinking.”

With that said, Fu Chenlan was even more convinced she wasn’t overthinking. She had never given her daughter a talk about the birds and the bees. Fu Chenlan looked seriously at Fu Qingyun’s calm, ink-colored eyes. “I don’t think I’m overthinking. Remember to take precautions beforehand.”

Fu Qingyun looked at Fu Chenlan, then at Su Ziqin’s almost frozen face. “You want to too?”

Su Ziqin looked at her fairy’s innocent, bewildered expression. She almost screamed out loud. Yes, I want to! But you don’t feel anything, do you? Is this bitch always misunderstanding her own beauty? How can I not have any thoughts about you when you look like this? Am I even human?

Seeing the dangerous look in Su Ziqin’s eyes, Fu Chenlan raised her hand to stop their interaction. “Stop! I’m here to talk about something serious.”

“I can’t think of anything more serious than making you a grandchild,” Su Ziqin said, leaning against Fu Qingyun, as lazy as if she had no bones.

Fu Chenlan’s lips twitched. “Shut up. This little fool can’t make one yet.”

Su Ziqin gave Fu Chenlan an eye roll and buried her face in Fu Qingyun’s shoulder. “I’m not listening. Where there’s a will…”

“You’re going to grind my daughter’s hand into a needle?” Fu Chenlan glanced at the top of Su Ziqin’s head, then said to Fu Qingyun, “Little Yun’er, your godfather is back. He’s inviting you and Yangyang to your grandpa’s birthday banquet next weekend.”

“Godfather?” Su Ziqin turned her face, looking at Fu Chenlan with some surprise. Didn’t Uncle Yang also invite her to some banquet?

Fu Chenlan gave Su Ziqin a grumpy look. “He didn’t invite you. He doesn’t even know she’s married.”

“You don’t have to worry about that. Someone already invited me,” Su Ziqin said with a yawn.

Fu Chenlan was a little surprised. “Who? The old man of the Wu family’s birthday banquet isn’t something just anyone gets invited to.”

“Uncle Yang. He sent me a message before, asking me to bring my Alpha to a banquet. He said it was for his good friend, who’s my wife’s godfather.”

“Uncle Yang?” Fu Chenlan didn’t have any contact with Yang Pengquan. It was the first time she had heard of such a person.

Fu Qingyun held Su Ziqin’s arm. “Yang Pengquan, the owner of Wanshida.”

“Oh, I remember now,” Fu Chenlan said, hitting her thigh and leaning against the sofa. “He must be the Wu’s cow’s comrade from the south. This Mr. Yang is from the southern capital, right?”

Fu Qingyun nodded. “That’s right. But… Mother, who is this godfather? I don’t remember him.”

Fu Chenlan’s voice was a bit lazy. “It’s good that you don’t know. He… was your mother’s former fiancé.”

“What did you say?” Su Ziqin didn’t expect to hear such a big piece of gossip.

Fu Chenlan waved her hand impatiently. “This old cow, he served in the same place as me. It’s just that I left after two years. We had a good relationship, but your mother didn’t fancy him.”

“So the reason Grandpa doesn’t like you is because you interfered?” Su Ziqin asked.

Fu Chenlan gritted her teeth and forced out a very ugly smile. “What do you mean I interfered? It’s not the olden days anymore, where you have arranged marriages. Your mother made a wise decision. Before you were born, their family had an accident, and they all moved to the south. Now that General Wu has officially retired, they’ve come back.”

“You haven’t even met him, and you have to call him godfather?” Su Ziqin felt that the relationship between this godfather and Fu Qingyun’s siblings was a bit strange. You could say they were complete strangers.

Fu Chenlan hummed twice, her eyes staring blankly at the ceiling, as if she were remembering something from the past. “I had no choice. That old cow was deeply in love with Qingli. He never married because of her. So Qingli said that our children would call him godfather, so that even if he croaked one day, someone would be there to see him off.”

“As expected, beautiful people are in high demand.” Su Ziqin held Fu Qingyun’s arm tightly. Wasn’t her little fairy the same? She’s always got some vixen eyeing her. “Doesn’t it bother you that someone else is still so hung up on your wife?”

Su Ziqin thought of what happened with Xu Zhiqian’s family. The eras were different, and their identities were different, but the experiences were somewhat similar.

Fu Chenlan raised her eyebrows, a confident smile on her lips. “Is love something you can give up? If Qingli wasn’t willing, who could force her to marry someone she didn’t like? There’s no winner or loser between me and the old cow. Even though we don’t get along, neither of us owes the other anything in this matter.”

Look at this wisdom, look at this grace. Su Ziqin even wanted to record this and have Xu Zhiqian watch it whenever she felt like overthinking again. “For such a small matter, you didn’t have to come all the way here.”

Fu Chenlan squinted at Su Ziqin’s nonchalant expression. “Daughter-in-law, this is not a joke. It’s true that the old cow is your godfather. But Little Yun’er’s godfather is not a simple person. You must be prepared.”

Seeing Fu Chenlan’s expression suddenly turn so serious, Su Ziqin couldn’t help but be curious about this General Wu. As if she had thought of something, Su Ziqin said with some surprise, “Not that General Wu, is it?”

“A national treasure, a cornerstone of the country,” Fu Qingyun said flatly. She had also heard the news these past few days. The news of the elderly general’s official retirement was being reported on all the major TV stations.

Fu Chenlan nodded. “General Wu has spent his life in the military, making countless contributions since before the liberation. This time, not only will our country’s high-ranking officials and tycoons attend, but even people from the United States will be there.”

“Why?” Fu Qingyun thought for a moment. The relationship between the United States and China wasn’t as good as it seemed on the surface. In the past two years, it had even been a bit tense. “Are they going to try to humiliate the old general?”

Fu Chenlan shook her head. She was a businesswoman and wasn’t involved in the military or politics. Aside from the old cow she hadn’t seen in decades, her only military-related relative was Gu Zhanxin. Gu Zhanxin was often on missions abroad, so they had little contact. Fu Chenlan was quite out of the loop when it came to certain information.

Su Ziqin still thought Fu Chenlan was a bit too anxious. “It’s still not enough for you to come here today.”

“Oh, I see now. I really did interrupt you. Little Yun’er’s godfather is already back and wants to see Little Yun’er and Yangyang in advance.” Fu Chenlan stepped forward and pulled Su Ziqin away from her daughter. “You two better go get changed.”

Su Ziqin reluctantly took Fu Qingyun and stood up. Fu Chenlan looked at her daughter’s battered neck. “Little Yun’er, cover your neck.”

She gave Su Ziqin an annoyed look. “Look what you’ve done to my perfectly good daughter.”

Su Ziqin reached out and touched the mark on Fu Qingyun’s neck. She said unhappily, “It’s already faded. I’ll have to replenish it when we get back tonight.”

Fu Chenlan… “Hurry up and go get changed. You only have fifteen minutes. Don’t kiss her anymore during that time!”

“Okay,” Su Ziqin replied lazily, cursing under her breath. How did Fu Chenlan know what I was thinking? Did my expression management fail me? Was I found out?

Little Fox: Interrupting me while I’m kissing my wife is just inhumane.
