Chapter 83
In the Yunfan CEO’s office, a pile of scattered documents was stacked on the desk. Su Ziqin leaned wearily against the back of her boss’s chair, on the phone.
“Uncle Yang, I want to go, too, but I’ve just been too busy lately,” she said with a hint of tiredness and helplessness in her voice.
“Okay, it’s up to you. Is your Alpha going?”
Su Ziqin rubbed her temples. The only reason she wanted to go to the so-called Wu family state banquet was because of Fu Qingyun. She didn’t know what was wrong with Dingfeng, but they had suddenly lowered their price, which made Yangyang the best candidate for the endorsement.
Originally, the publicity department hadn’t put much effort into Fu Yanyang’s endorsement proposal. Dingfeng’s quote was too high, and the original budget was completely unusable. The outsourced public relations team was also in a hurry. Su Ziqin had been working overtime for several days for this.
Every day she got home, she was as tired as a husky and would fall asleep without even getting close to Fu Qingyun. She still hadn’t finished by Saturday.
Su Ziqin looked at the time. It was almost eight o’clock. The state banquet was about to start, and there was no way she could make it.
“She’s going,” Su Ziqin sighed. “After all, her godfather personally invited her a few days ago.”
“Oh?” Yang Pengquan was a little surprised. “Jianjun came back early and didn’t tell me?”
Su Ziqin stretched her stiff neck, opened her computer, and continued working on the proposal. “I don’t know about that. Didn’t you ask him? Aren’t you going tonight?”
“Oh, I don’t like those kinds of occasions. You know I’m used to being free and easy. All right, I won’t bother you while you’re working overtime. Let’s get together for a meal another day.”
“Okay, Uncle Yang,” Su Ziqin replied helplessly. Yang Pengquan had a lazy personality, and “another day” really just meant “never.”
Su Ziqin put the phone on the desk, forced herself to sit up straight, and continued working. Under Fu Qingyun’s guidance, Su Ziqin’s coding speed was already number one in Yunfan, but her ability to create proposals was not particularly good.
The entire Yunfan proposal department was working overtime, and Su Ziqin had no choice but to join them. She couldn’t write proposals, but she was good at reviewing them. Every time the proposal department came up with a new one, Kong Shuangshuang would send it to Su Ziqin’s office.
“Ziqin,” Kong Shuangshuang knocked on the door from outside.
Su Ziqin didn’t look up, her eyes fixed on the computer screen. “Come in.”
“Ziqin, someone is here to see you.” Kong Shuangshuang moved to the side, revealing the person behind her.
Su Ziqin looked at the person in surprise. “Princess Louise?”
Louise gave Su Ziqin a smile. She was holding a very luxurious shopping bag. “Uncle Smith said you were still working overtime, so I came uninvited.”
As for this rival, Su Ziqin couldn’t say she didn’t care at all. Among Fu Qingyun’s many suitors, Su Ziqin could tell that this princess, just like herself, truly liked Fu Qingyun.
“You can go out first,” Su Ziqin said to Kong Shuangshuang.
Kong Shuangshuang gave Su Ziqin a meaningful look and said nothing more. She walked out of the office and closed the door, leaving the space for the two Omegas.
“Is there something you need, Princess? My Alpha isn’t here,” Su Ziqin said, motioning for Louise to sit down.
Louise didn’t stand on ceremony. She sat down in the chair opposite Su Ziqin and took a beautiful box out of the shopping bag. She placed it on the desk and pushed it toward Su Ziqin.
“I came to bring you a gift and to pick you up for the state banquet.” As a member of the Country Y family royalty, Louise was naturally one of the invited guests at the Wu family state banquet.
Su Ziqin waved her hand at Louise, lowered her head, and continued working. “I can’t go. I have a ton of things to do here.”
Seeing that Su Ziqin didn’t even look at the gift she had brought, Louise chuckled softly. “You’re really not a cute Omega.”
“Pfft,” Su Ziqin shot Louise a glare. “I don’t have to live with you, so why do you care if I’m cute or not? Hurry up and leave. I didn’t even go when my wife called me.”
Louise didn’t plan to argue with Su Ziqin. She walked up to her and directly turned off Su Ziqin’s computer screen.
“Hey!” Su Ziqin was a little annoyed. What was the deal with this person?
Louise’s playful demeanor changed to a serious one. “Su Ziqin, thank you for saving me before. I want to tell you that I’ve given up. After I attend the state banquet tonight, I’ll be going back home. Before I leave, I want to be your friend.”
Louise extended her hand toward Su Ziqin. Her sincere attitude left Su Ziqin a little bewildered. Just like that, my love rival wants to be my friend? Is this a new way to steal my wife?
Su Ziqin took Louise’s hand suspiciously. “Are you okay?”
Louise knew what Su Ziqin meant—that she didn’t believe her. She wasn’t angry and continued, “I’m serious. I’ve thought about it carefully. A cold person like Fu Qingyun isn’t really a good match for me. I’ll leave it to you to melt her. You’re a very brave Omega, and I genuinely want to be your friend.”
“Huh?” Su Ziqin pulled her hand back and took two steps back. A flash of disgust appeared in her amber eyes. “You’re not trying to hit on me, are you? No way. My wife is so beautiful, I have no desire to cheat on her with an Omega.”
Louise found Su Ziqin’s words both amusing and exasperating. She brushed a strand of hair behind her ear and said with a light laugh, “What are you talking about? I like Alphas. I just suddenly feel like I don’t like Fu Qingyun as much as I thought.”
Louise wasn’t lying. She was amazed when she first met Fu Qingyun and had the idea of getting together with her. After getting to know her, Louise realized that Fu Qingyun was a very talented person.
It wasn’t until the night Su Ziqin saved her that Louise understood why Fu Qingyun liked her. Su Ziqin was very brave, braver than any other Omega she had ever met. And Louise didn’t have that kind of bravery.
After thinking about it calmly, even if Louise liked Fu Qingyun more, she would never marry her. As Smith had said before, Fu Qingyun was too smart to be a duke, and the royal family would never choose her. For the sake of her own position, Louise couldn’t choose her either.
Since she couldn’t be as brave as Su Ziqin, she might as well gracefully step aside.
The other person’s tone and demeanor didn’t seem fake, and Su Ziqin felt that Louise had no reason to lie to her. “Aren’t you two supposed to wait until the patent is approved before you go back home?”
Louise sighed. The image of Smith packing his luggage came to mind. “Uncle Smith is an impatient person. He paid for express service. The patent has already been approved and should be announced on the next business day.”
“Oh, I see. Then you can go. I’m really busy,” Su Ziqin said, reaching out to turn her computer screen on again.
Louise reached out to stop Su Ziqin’s hand. Their hands were intertwined, and Louise’s fingertips had a little bit of force. “I’m leaving tomorrow. I can’t thank you properly by myself. Accompanying me to the state banquet can be considered a farewell. What do you say?”
“But…”
“Oh, fine, I’ll just go by myself. Fu Qingyun is there. I’ll go see if I have a chance to sleep with her before I leave? A one-night stand doesn’t require a commitment.”
“I’ll go!” Su Ziqin quickly changed her mind, the words practically leaping from between her teeth. This vampire really knew how to get under her skin. Even though she knew it was impossible, Su Ziqin’s tiny bit of jealousy still exploded.
Louise picked up the gift box from the desk and opened it for Su Ziqin. The contents of the box came into view. The exquisite necklace was just as beautiful as she remembered, its brilliance never fading.
“Eternal Love?” Su Ziqin took the box. She liked the necklace but had thought it wasn’t necessary to buy it at the time. Besides, at that time, this vampire wasn’t as honest as she was now.
Louise tapped the box, crossed her arms over her chest, and said with a relaxed expression, “Since I’m going to be your friend, I should naturally give you a wedding gift. You and Fu Qingyun have been married for over a year now. This gift may be a little late, but it’s better late than never.”
“Princess, you’re so generous.” Since it was free, Su Ziqin had no reason to refuse.
Louise shrugged, not caring much about the necklace. There were many love stories in the royal family, but the owner of this necklace had a happy life in the end, just as the stories described. Since she couldn’t have her wish, she would give this beautiful symbol of hope to a friend.
“You Chinese people say that everything is about fate. This necklace and I have no fate, so I’m giving it to you.” As the heir to the royal family, Louise’s status as an Omega prevented her from having a person she truly loved. She was destined to choose a marriage partner her father approved of.
Louise didn’t think the person her father chose would be someone she liked. Since there was no “eternal love” for her, what was the point of having this necklace?
Su Ziqin smiled and put the box back in the bag. Now she had a meaningful and free gift for her wife. “Thank you, Princess.”
“You’re not going to give that necklace to Fu Qingyun, are you?” Louise saw the satisfied smile on Su Ziqin’s face and instantly guessed her intention.
Su Ziqin winked at her, confirming her guess with her smile. Su Ziqin turned on her computer screen, saved her file, picked up her bag, and walked toward the elevator.
“Let’s go. We’re going to the state banquet together.”
Louise laughed and hurried to catch up. The two of them entered the elevator one after the other. Louise gave a somewhat disgusted laugh. “You’re not serious, are you? A top-tier Omega with money and a good figure… Why are you like this? You’ve clearly been bewitched by Fu Qingyun.”
Louise didn’t know Su Ziqin’s exact rank, but after spending some time with her, she knew that Su Ziqin was a high-ranked Omega; otherwise, it would be impossible for her to have been marked by Fu Qingyun. There were still AOs in this world who didn’t record their ranks.
“You don’t understand, and I don’t blame you.” Su Ziqin knew what Louise was about to say—that she was too subservient. That was because she hadn’t seen Su Ziqin act cute with Fu Qingyun, and Fu Qingyun always gave in. The fate of two lifetimes had given Su Ziqin this wife, and if she didn’t hold on to her tightly, Su Ziqin would think she was crazy.
“Okay, okay, I don’t understand,” Louise said, her goosebumps rising at Su Ziqin’s gushy words.
The two arrived at the parking lot, and Su Ziqin got straight into Louise’s car. After all, her wife was at the state banquet, so Su Ziqin didn’t have to worry about not having a ride home.
Louise turned on the navigation, and the car headed toward the address of the Wu family’s state banquet.
The state banquet was being held at the First Army Corps of Jing City, a solemn military camp. Luxury cars drove into the camp gate one by one.
Su Yingying got out of the Qin family’s luxury car. Since they were at a military camp, Su Yingying didn’t wear anything too extravagant. The banquet was held in the army’s auditorium. Su Yingying looked at the solemn auditorium door and obediently held Qin Renfeng’s arm.
Behind the auditorium door stood a dignified lady with a serious expression. She was wearing a dark green qipao. A few silver hairs were mixed in with her black hair. The years had left their mark on her face, and she looked to be over sixty.
“Get rid of Qin Renfeng, walk toward that lady, and find a way to let her see the jade tile,” the system’s voice said in Su Yingying’s mind.
“Who is she?” Su Yingying asked.
The system sneered. “Shen Birong, Wu Yuanhao’s wife, and Su Ziqin’s… No, if you play your cards right, she’ll be your future grandmother.”
Louise: Ugh… Is there any rival in the world better than me?
