A Female Lead Wants a Lifelong Union With Me (Quick Transmigration) - Chapter 31
An He slept straight through until the end of the second period.
The moment the bell rang, she sat bolt upright as if she’d stepped on a live wire, staring forward in a complete daze. A few kids who had just stood up from their seats were startled by her sudden movement, their legs going weak as they tumbled back down.
“I… what…” It took An He a long time to regain her senses. She hurriedly asked the System in her mind, “Did I just sleep through two classes?”
“Yup,” the System said. “Look at how capable you are!”
“That shouldn’t be right.” Hearing the System’s sarcasm, An He felt a bit embarrassed. “I was that flagrant about it and no one disciplined me?”
“Oh, you mean that.” The System cleared its throat, dropping a line like a dramatic revelation. “The Big Boss personally asked the teacher for a leave of absence for you. She said you weren’t feeling well and needed a little nap.”
An He: “Is… is that so?”
She paused, then peeked sideways. She saw Han Peiqiu sitting perfectly upright in her seat; her posture looked like it hadn’t shifted an inch. She wasn’t doing math problems anymore, though—she was reading a book.
An He intended to say thank you, but before she could open her mouth, someone tapped her on the shoulder.
“Jiajia-tongxue~” An He twisted around and saw three little girls standing behind her.
They stood in a tripod formation, blocking the aisle so completely that no one else could pass, and they showed no intention of moving. The girl on the far left, the one who had tapped her shoulder, smiled at An He and reached for her hand. “What are you dazing off for? It’s time for calisthenics. Let’s go together?”
“Calisthenics?” An He asked, a fresh wave of foreboding washing over her.
“Yeah! You just transferred, so you probably don’t know.” The girl smiled and signaled the other two to help pull An He up. “Every day after the second period is time for the morning exercises.”
“Huh?” An He felt like collapsing. She hadn’t expected primary school to be this much trouble. Back in her original school days, it was nothing but studying; she’d never had to do these morning drills, which meant she’d never had to make a fool of herself in front of a crowd. With her lack of coordination, she would have been laughed at 860 times by now.
Seeing her silence, the kids took it as consent and yanked her out of her seat like they were pulling up a radish, dragging her toward the door. Just as they were about to step out, An He suddenly remembered something and whipped her head back toward Han Peiqiu, who was still seated.
“Want to come along?”
“She has bad health!” Before Han Peiqiu could speak, the kids had already dragged An He out the door. “She has special privileges; she doesn’t have to do the exercises.”
An He felt a pang of envy. She quickly asked the System: Is it too late for me to start faking bad health right now?
System: “What do you think? Did you forget your ‘stepped on a live wire’ performance just now?”
An He: “…”
System: “That’s not ‘bad health.’ That’s ‘bursting with vitality.'”
An He: “Shut up, please.”
In the end, An He had no choice. She was dragged to the playground to stand on the grass with a bunch of rugrats, staring up at the sky. The sky was so blue, the grass was so green, and the sixth graders were… really tall.
An He sighed, wanting to go over and ask them what they were eating to grow like that. The body she was currently inhabiting was very small; even compared to her peers, she was on the shorter side. Because of this, she was placed at the very front of the line for the exercises, right in front of the school leaders.
“System!” She paused, shamelessly pleading in her head for a “Golden Finger” cheat. “Look, I don’t know how to do any of this. Standing here is going to bring shame to the class!”
“So what do you want?” the System asked.
“At least tell me how the routine goes…” An He said.
“Sigh,” the System groaned. “So much trouble.”
Despite the grumbling, the System activated a cheat, directly imprinting the entire routine of the radio calisthenics into An He’s brain. Before An He could even digest it, her body began moving to the music blaring from the loudspeakers.
An He: This is amazing!
“Duh,” the System ignored her and went back to its movie.
For the first time in her life, An He felt like her coordination was top-tier. She executed every movement to the extreme—spinning, jumping, extending her arms, and kicking her legs. Even bending over and doing the splits was no problem at all. She felt like a graceful bird perched on a mountain peak, overlooking the world, ready to take flight.
When the music stopped, she actually felt a bit unsatisfied.
“Mic check, mic check.” The school leader on the stage saw the music end and picked up the microphone to give a speech.
An He stood in place, head held high, the red scarf on her chest fluttering in the wind—the perfect image of an exemplary successor of society.
“That girl!” The leader cleared his throat and pointed his finger directly at her. “The one in the front. Do that routine you just did one more time.”
“Huh?” An He froze, her body going stiff. She noticed that as soon as the leader spoke, all the kids around her turned their gaze toward her, nearly staring a hole through her.
“Wh… which section?” An He asked, biting the bullet.
“The jumping section,” the leader said, taking a sip of tea from a cup nearby like a casual spectator.
An He couldn’t refuse. Under the watchful eyes of the entire primary school, she performed the jumping movements for four sets of eight counts like an idiot, feeling her dignity crumble.
“Alright, that’s enough.” Once she finished, the school leader clapped and pointed at her again through the mic. “Starting tomorrow, you’ll lead the exercises from the stage.”
“Lead… lead the exercises?” An He was stunned, her brain going blank. “WHA???”
An He had transferred right at the start of the September semester. After a whole summer break, the school had a lot of business to attend to. The leader finished assigning the lead role and moved on to other announcements, leaving a bewildered An He standing there.
In reality, primary schoolers are much simpler than middle or high school students. They compare themselves through grades and “Little Red Flower” stickers. The more stickers you have and the more the teacher praises you, the more they admire you—they think you’re a god.
So, as soon as An He followed the crowd back to class, a swarm of people surrounded her, inadvertently pinning both her and Han Peiqiu in the middle.
Han Peiqiu had just finished her book. Her eyes were tired, and she was preparing to take a nap on the desk. Before she could even lean down, she saw a mob of people rushing over like crazy, their target being her new desk mate. Seeing so many large faces closing in, Han Peiqiu frowned and chose to bury her face in her arms to seek some peace.
She wasn’t sleeping, though. she was secretly listening to what they were saying.
She heard them praising An He for being excellent, saying she had been handpicked by the school leaders to lead the exercises the moment she transferred. They even said her posture and movements were so graceful, she looked like a beautiful white swan!
System: “If a swan actually looked like that, it would cry, wouldn’t it?”
An He: “…”
Seeing the crowd growing, An He couldn’t take it anymore and politely coaxed everyone back to their seats. Then she sighed and slumped onto the desk in the exact same posture as Han Peiqiu.
“You…” Just as she laid her head down, a very soft voice drifted into her ear.
An He turned her head and saw the Big Boss staring at her seriously, her eyelashes fluttering like little fans.
“What’s wrong?” An He whispered.
“Nothing.” The Boss seemed to have something she wanted to say, but after a moment of hesitation, she pursed her lips and simply shook her head.
This was the first time An He realized the Big Boss was so “tsundere”—actually playing the “hesitating to speak” game.
“Fine, if you won’t say it.” An He sighed and shifted her head, turning the other way toward the girl at the next desk, Xiao Hong.
One look and An He nearly choked on her own spit. She saw that Xiao Hong seemed to have a cold; a strand of snot had already crossed the “river” and was about to reach her mouth.
Wipe it, for heaven’s sake! An He screamed internally.
Just as she finished her internal scream, the strand of snot finally flowed onto Xiao Hong’s lip.
“You!” An He couldn’t help but call out, pointing indignantly at the girl’s mouth. “Your snot is coming out! Wipe it quickly!”
“Oh.” Seeing An He pointing at her, Xiao Hong reluctantly reached out, rolled up her sleeve, and wiped her nose with it.
An He: …Good lord.
Disturbed by the scene, An He frowned and shifted her position again, turning back toward the Big Boss. She saw that the Boss was still looking at her, a hint of hesitation in her eyes. This time, as if afraid An He would turn away again, she finally bit her lip and spoke her mind.
“Congratulations,” she whispered. “You’re… really amazing.”
