After I Became A Scumbag Alpha, the Female Lead Omega and I Both Fell Hard (Transmigration Into A Novel) - Chapter 14
At five o’clock, the sky was beginning to brighten.
“The patient’s blood pressure and heart rate are normal. Her temperature has returned to a reasonable range. Once she regains consciousness, we’ll conduct a full examination.”
Pei Fei’s voice echoed faintly through the hospital corridor.
Song Chenxi was sitting on a bench outside the emergency room. Her lowered head abruptly snapped up, and she shot to her feet.
Pei Fei removed her sterile gloves and disposable medical mask, throwing both into the trash. An icy chill filled her eyes.
“Don’t go inside.”
Ignoring the daggers Pei Fei’s eyes were shooting at her, Song Chenxi politely followed behind her for several steps.
“Dr. Pei, may I ask how Ruan Tang is doing…?”
Dr. Pei?
Pei Fei rolled her eyes at the empty air.
Song Chenxi used to call her “Pei the Yaksha.”
Pei Fei blinked, then abruptly turned around with both hands tucked into the pockets of her white coat.
“Second Miss Song, do you genuinely care about your Omega?”
Song Chenxi slammed on the brakes and nearly collided with her.
“Don’t think I’ll believe you merely because you waited in the corridor and put on a worried expression.” Pei Fei remained expressionless and spoke without the slightest attempt at tact.
Song Chenxi helplessly shrugged. Her lips parted soundlessly, but she ultimately said nothing.
“Regrettably…” Pei Fei began before turning away.
Song Chenxi’s face filled with alarm.
“What?”
Showing Song Chenxi only the back of her head, Pei Fei said coldly, “She won’t die for now.”
What kind of pause was that?
She had nearly scared Song Chenxi to death.
Song Chenxi visibly breathed a sigh of relief.
Seeing her harmless expression only made Pei Fei angrier.
“Hmph. Don’t think I don’t know how Omega abusers like you operate. You can’t feel any pleasure unless you torment an Omega to death.”
“Huh?”
Pei Fei stepped forward and forcefully jabbed Song Chenxi’s shoulder with her index finger.
“Someone like you will never meet a good end.”
“If you have something to say, say it properly. There’s no need for personal attacks,” Song Chenxi muttered quietly.
Pei Fei froze.
She had indeed become somewhat emotional.
Perhaps she would have felt better—or simply been too indifferent to care—if she had not known Song Chenxi since childhood. The same might have been true if Song Chenxi still treated her with her former attitude.
But the more differently Song Chenxi behaved, the more stifled Pei Fei felt.
It was as though Song Chenxi had committed every possible evil and had now suddenly appeared here to whitewash herself.
After a long silence, Pei Fei forced herself to calm down.
She cleared her throat.
“Ruan Tang’s fever wasn’t caused by a cold. Her pheromone disorder, combined with exposure to the cold, triggered a heat outside her normal cycle. She was already slipping out of consciousness when you brought her in. If you had arrived ten minutes later, you probably really would be preparing her funeral now.”
Pei Fei felt sorry for Ruan Tang, so she had deliberately made the situation sound slightly more severe.
Song Chenxi lowered her eyes, her expression filled with guilt and remorse.
“This was all my fault.”
“Stop pretending.”
Song Chenxi willingly accepted Pei Fei’s reprimand.
After all, she had relied on the fact that she was a doctor and used ordinary medical knowledge and conventional methods to lower Ruan Tang’s temperature, completely forgetting that this was an ABO world.
If she had noticed sooner and brought Ruan Tang to the hospital earlier, the poor girl might have suffered less.
“Forget it. There’s nothing worth discussing with you.”
Pei Fei sighed and left.
She prescribed medication for Ruan Tang and arranged for her to remain hospitalized while awaiting a full examination.
*
Ruan Tang lay in the hospital room with her eyes closed, breathing steadily.
Apart from her deathly pale face and bloodless lips, she looked as though she were enjoying a sweet, peaceful dream after being deprived of one for far too long.
While Ruan Tang slept, Song Chenxi visited a nearby shopping mall and purchased clothes and daily necessities suitable for her.
For some unknown reason, Ruan Tang always wore black, white, or gray. To be safe, Song Chenxi bought clothing in those same colors. She also selected daily necessities resembling the ones Ruan Tang used at home.
When she passed a fruit shop, she purchased several seasonal fruits and a pink fruit knife decorated with a little bear.
By the time she returned to the hospital carrying bags of every size, Ruan Tang still had not awakened.
To avoid disturbing her, Song Chenxi removed her high heels and walked barefoot across the tiled floor, placing everything inside a cabinet with extreme care.
At that moment, a contact saved as “ATM” called her.
Song Chenxi immediately rushed outside the hospital room to answer.
“Sweetheart, are you busy?”
It was the unfamiliar voice of a middle-aged woman.
“Hello. May I ask who this is?” Song Chenxi’s humility and politeness were ingrained in her very bones.
The woman deliberately softened her voice with a hint of coquettishness.
“Oh, you can’t even recognize your mother’s voice anymore?”
Song Chenxi: “…”
Mother Dearest? Bai Lan?
She calmly called, “Mom.”
The woman on the other end visibly seemed to freeze. Then she drew out her response.
“You’re finally willing to call me Mom! What a good little girl you are!”
In her previous life, Song Chenxi had never been doted on by her family like this.
Whenever she returned home from school, she would habitually call for her mother. Yet she was always greeted by the same cold response:
“Why are you shouting like you’re summoning a ghost?”
Song Chenxi could not be bothered to remember those things.
“Mom, did you need something?”
“Oh, it’s like this. The Su family’s eldest daughter is returning to the country, and she said she would like to see you. What day are you free next week? I’ll arrange it for you, all right?”
Bai Lan ended each of her final sentences with soft particles, her tone rising in obvious attempts to please her daughter.
“Who’s the Su family’s eldest daughter?”
“Oh, there’s no way you don’t know her! Her name is Su Qinya. She’s a superior Omega and a celebrity. She’s been on television.”
Song Chenxi’s mind worked rapidly.
The original novel did indeed contain such a character.
She was beautiful, had a terrible temper, and placed tremendous importance on maintaining her image as an actress.
While tormenting Ruan Tang, the original Song Chenxi had also cheated on her with numerous people. Su Qinya had been one of them.
Furthermore, Su Qinya had served as a catalyst in driving Ruan Tang to her death.
Song Chenxi curled her lip and replied indifferently, “I don’t want to see her. Don’t arrange anything for now.”
Several passing nurses glanced curiously at Song Chenxi’s bare feet.
Bai Lan did not dare object.
“All right, all right. I won’t arrange it yet. Where are you? I bought several handbags. Come and see whether you like any of them.”
Song Chenxi was not skilled at lying.
“I’m at the hospital. Something happened. In a little while—”
“What? My precious baby is in the hospital? Where are you hurt? Give me the address. I’m coming over right now!”
The woman on the other end nearly exploded on the spot.
“Mom, it isn’t me. It’s—”
Bai Lan adored her daughter. After imagining her precious girl taking medicine and receiving an IV, she immediately decided to visit, giving Song Chenxi no opportunity to finish explaining.
Unable to dissuade her, Song Chenxi obediently provided the address.
After ending the call, she tiptoed back into the hospital room.
Ruan Tang had already awakened when she heard the earlier ringtone. She was now staring gravely in Song Chenxi’s direction.
