After I Became A Scumbag Alpha, the Female Lead Omega and I Both Fell Hard (Transmigration Into A Novel) - Chapter 6
By the time Song Chenxi returned home, the sky was already bright.
Sunlight reflected off the glass.
Amid the dazzling light, Ruan Tang pushed open the door and emerged from the bedroom.
Loose-fitting loungewear hung over her body, making her appear even smaller and thinner.
She gave a tiny yawn and did not seem fully awake yet.
So obedient and soft.
For a moment, Song Chenxi could not tell which was more radiant—the sunshine or Ruan Tang.
“Good morning!”
Ruan Tang had not expected her master to awaken before her. Startled, she nervously returned the greeting.
“Good morning, Master!”
She practically sprinted into the kitchen. With practiced ease, she opened a cabinet and took out two bowls of different sizes and colors from separate storage baskets, along with two pairs of chopsticks.
She reached behind herself to tie on an apron, quickly rinsed some rice, and placed the cleaned grains inside a pot.
While waiting for the porridge to cook, Ruan Tang took several ingredients from the refrigerator and prepared two side dishes to accompany it.
Watching Ruan Tang—who had still been receiving an IV and taking medication in the hospital yesterday—made Song Chenxi feel embarrassed. She clumsily attempted to help.
The original Song Chenxi had barely ever entered the kitchen. She even ordered Ruan Tang to bring her water whenever she was thirsty.
Looking at this unfamiliar version of her master, Ruan Tang felt terrified. She had no idea what her master was planning this time.
Trembling, she secretly glanced at Song Chenxi as the latter looked around the kitchen. Since she could not directly refuse her help, Ruan Tang could only work faster.
When Song Chenxi realized she could not do anything useful, she returned to the dining table.
She crossed her long, slender legs and rested her cheek in one hand. Her phoenix-shaped eyes wandered aimlessly, making her look exactly like a cat waiting to be fed.
At that moment, the landline rang.
Song Chenxi frowned. The ringtone was awful. She would have to change it when she had time.
“Young President Song, you’re scheduled to meet with the editor-in-chief of MZ Magazine today. The meeting will take place at Yiyezhou Teahouse. What time would be convenient for you?”
The caller sounded like a mature woman.
Song Chenxi knew very little about the original novel’s plot. She only knew that the original owner ran a women’s fashion company. Beyond that, she knew nothing.
She decided not to force herself to figure everything out now. She could assess the situation once she arrived.
“Hmm…” Song Chenxi glanced at the clock on the wall. “Eight.”
The voice on the other end noticeably paused.
“Eight o’clock in the morning?”
“Yes.”
“Just to confirm, you would like to meet the editor-in-chief of MZ Magazine at exactly eight o’clock this morning?”
“Yes.”
“Let me confirm one more time. You mean eight in the morning, not eight in the evening?”
Song Chenxi: “…”
I only said two words. Were they that difficult to understand?
While Song Chenxi was on the phone, Ruan Tang arranged the breakfast she had purchased on plates.
Then she suddenly detected a scent she had not smelled in a very long time.
Cilantro?
But Master did not eat cilantro!
Still somewhat confused, Ruan Tang finished cooking the porridge.
The kitchen’s glass door slid open.
Carrying a wooden tray much wider than her shoulders, Ruan Tang carefully approached the dining table.
She placed the dishes and pastries on the table, followed by a white porcelain bowl more than half-filled with millet porridge in front of Song Chenxi. She thoughtfully set down a square white porcelain saucer and a chopstick rest beside her hand, then added a white porcelain spoon and pinewood chopsticks.
Once everything had been arranged, Ruan Tang lowered her head and spoke like a server.
“Master, please enjoy your meal.”
“Thank you, thank you. You really don’t need to do all this.”
Song Chenxi raised her brows slightly. Just as she picked up the spoon, she suddenly remembered something and said gently, “You should eat too.”
Ruan Tang shook her head and remained standing stiffly beside Song Chenxi without moving.
Did the original Song Chenxi forbid Ruan Tang from eating?
Song Chenxi put down her spoon and turned toward Ruan Tang with a smile.
“Ruan Tang, eat with me. It would be lonely to eat by myself.”
Ruan Tang’s eyes were clear, their whites and blacks as distinct as a child’s.
She blinked lightly twice, nodded, and returned to the kitchen.
Several minutes later, she emerged carrying a smaller bowl and sat down in a seat far away from Song Chenxi.
Song Chenxi stared at the top of the little Omega’s head, utterly confused.
Screech—
She pulled back her chair and walked over to Ruan Tang.
“M-Master, what’s wrong?”
The instant Song Chenxi approached, Ruan Tang put down her spoon and looked at her with trepidation.
“Why aren’t you sitting over there with me? You can’t reach any of the side dishes from here.”
“I… I’m supposed to eat… here.” Ruan Tang lowered her head, looking terribly pitiful.
Song Chenxi did not know what to say.
Ruan Tang remained silent for several seconds and lowered her head even further.
Only after a great deal of difficulty did she quietly say, “I don’t need to eat any side dishes.”
“What?”
Song Chenxi’s fists clenched tightly, and her brows drew together into a deep furrow.
Ruan Tang did not know what she had done wrong. Frightened, her shoulders trembled like the wings of a butterfly preparing to fly away.
Song Chenxi swept her hair behind her head and planted both hands on her hips, her chest tight with anger.
Was there something seriously wrong with the original Song Chenxi?
Remembering the dozens of behavioral rules written across the basement wall in black spray paint made rage blaze inside her.
The original owner, that damned piece of garbage, had undoubtedly devised yet another bizarre rule!
It was clear that, aside from using her for physical pleasure, the original Song Chenxi had never liked this Omega at all!
“Master, I was wrong. I-I’ll only eat porridge. No, no, I… I don’t have to eat anything…”
Ruan Tang’s voice trembled with fear. Painful memories of the past clung to her like vengeful ghosts, dragging her into an even darker abyss.
Song Chenxi sighed. She turned around, picked up her bowl and spoon, walked over to Ruan Tang, and sat beside her.
Without saying a word, she began drinking her porridge.
“Master…” Ruan Tang stared at the woman before her in disbelief. “Y-You can’t do this!”
“Why not? If you can eat here, why can’t I?”
As she spoke, Song Chenxi pointed at Ruan Tang’s bowl.
“Eat. The porridge you made is delicious.”
“I… No, Master, you can’t…”
Ruan Tang’s words came out in complete disorder.
“What can’t I do?” Song Chenxi did not reprimand her. A faint smile remained on her face.
“You can’t… sit here!”
For reasons unknown to others, Ruan Tang spoke slightly more slowly than an ordinary person.
Song Chenxi put down her bowl and spoon and looked at her sincerely.
“Of course I can—unless you agree to sit and eat with me.”
“But I… I’m not allowed. I can’t!”
Ruan Tang tightly clenched her hands, and her fingernails once again began scratching the back of one hand.
Song Chenxi slowly extended a finger and gently pressed it against Ruan Tang’s hand to stop her.
Ruan Tang raised her eyes and stared at her in terror, not daring even to breathe.
Her master had also lost her temper during meals in the past.
She would seize Ruan Tang by the hair and force her head backward. Then she would pick up a bowl of porridge and pour it over her head, leaving millet plastered across her hair and face.
“You’re my Omega. You must obey me unconditionally!”
“Stop scratching. You’ll break the skin.”
After speaking, Song Chenxi withdrew her hand.
Ruan Tang’s pupils trembled slightly, but she did not dare move.
The Song Chenxi of the past had never treated her this gently.
Whenever Song Chenxi ate, Ruan Tang had to stand beside her like a maid and wait. Only after Song Chenxi finished could Ruan Tang eat whatever remained.
Today’s Song Chenxi was just as beautiful and captivating as before. Her sharply defined brows carried a faintly aggressive edge. She possessed the kind of striking appearance that anyone would recognize instantly, even if she were thrown into a vast sea of people.
But aside from her appearance, everything about her seemed different from before.
Unable to outlast her, Ruan Tang finally nodded.
As though she had received official permission, Song Chenxi immediately picked up both bowls—hers in one hand and Ruan Tang’s in the other—and carried them back to her original seat.
After Ruan Tang sat down, Song Chenxi pushed every plate of food in front of her and waited for her to take the first bite.
However, Ruan Tang remained curled in on herself, still too frightened to reach for the food.
Song Chenxi did not urge her. She waited patiently, drinking only her porridge without touching the side dishes.
“M-Master… aren’t you going to eat any of the side dishes?” Ruan Tang cautiously asked.
Song Chenxi smiled.
“If you don’t eat them, neither will I.”
A long while passed before Ruan Tang made a token gesture of dipping the tip of her chopsticks into a little sauce from one of the dishes.
Song Chenxi did the same.
In the end, they finished their porridge, but much of the food remained untouched.
After breakfast, Ruan Tang brought Song Chenxi a glass of iced cola and a freshly washed ashtray.
Song Chenxi’s entire body gave a mighty jolt when she saw them.
Iced cola first thing in the morning?
Could her stomach even handle that?
Not only that, but drinking it also increased the risk of common illnesses such as gout, diabetes, and osteoporosis.
Song Chenxi shook her head.
She had finally received a second chance at life. No matter what, she intended to live until ninety-nine.
“I won’t drink that so early in the morning.”
Ruan Tang nodded, removed the cola, and offered her the ashtray.
Song Chenxi had never smoked in her life. She shook her head again.
“I don’t smoke.”
Ruan Tang immediately looked up at her with guarded eyes. The hand holding the ashtray trembled violently, and she almost wondered whether she had misheard.
The driver stopped the car outside. Song Chenxi rose, draped her coat over herself, and prepared to leave.
Ruan Tang had never seen her master leave for work this early. Although confused, she did not dare show it and timidly followed behind her.
Song Chenxi turned to look at the Omega.
“Ruan Tang, I’m going to find a housekeeper to clear out a room. Give me your phone number, and I’ll send it to her.”
Ruan Tang approached but stopped a meter away. She shook her small head like a rattle drum.
“I… I don’t have a phone.”
Huh?
A young person in the modern era without a phone?
That did not make sense.
Then again, perhaps that beast—the original Song Chenxi—had simply refused to buy her one.
Song Chenxi took out her own phone and offered it to Ruan Tang.
“Then I’ll leave my phone with you. You can use it to contact her.”
Embarrassment spread across Ruan Tang’s face. She looked down at the floor and shifted uneasily.
Her voice was quiet, yet every word seemed to strike Song Chenxi’s heart with tremendous force.
“I… don’t know how to use one.”
Song Chenxi fell silent.
Where were Ruan Tang’s parents?
Had they never allowed her to use a phone either?
