After I Became A Scumbag Alpha, the Female Lead Omega and I Both Fell Hard (Transmigration Into A Novel) - Chapter 15
“Ruan Tang, you’re awake?”
Song Chenxi put down her phone and walked awkwardly toward the bed.
“Does your head still hurt? Are you uncomfortable anywhere else?”
Ruan Tang’s back was rigidly straight. Her trembling hands were clasped together over the blanket, and her dark eyes appeared unfocused and listless.
“Thank you, Master. I’m fine now.”
Her voice was weak and feeble.
Song Chenxi handed her a cup of warm water.
“Here. Drink some water.”
Ruan Tang obediently did so.
“Is there anything you’d like to eat? I’ll buy it for you.”
Ruan Tang shook her head.
“N-No need. It doesn’t matter if… I don’t eat.”
Ruan Tang was not someone who would make requests of her own accord. Moreover, she had only just awakened from her fever and had little appetite.
“You shouldn’t take medicine on an empty stomach. It’s bad for your stomach. I’ll buy you some porridge in a little while, all right?”
Ruan Tang nodded guardedly.
She was clearly unwell and had suffered more deeply than anyone, yet she never complained. She even tried to act as though she was fine and no one needed to worry.
This only strengthened Song Chenxi’s determination to protect her.
She silently vowed to nurse Ruan Tang back to health, make her fair and plump, and never allow her to become sick again.
Song Chenxi rose and washed an apple. She picked up the little bear fruit knife and sat beside the bed again.
“Have some apple. It’s good for your stomach and can improve your appetite.”
After speaking, she lowered her head and began peeling it with an air of practiced skill.
Ruan Tang stared in astonishment. Drawing her neck inward, she secretly glanced at Song Chenxi before quickly withdrawing her gaze.
Her master never peeled fruit.
She certainly had never peeled fruit for Ruan Tang.
Moreover, her master was currently barefoot.
Ruan Tang suddenly remembered an incident from the past.
Her master had fallen asleep while watching television on the living-room sofa. Ruan Tang had quietly walked past, only to be struck in the head by a remote control.
“You’re so damn noisy, you idiot! From now on, you’re not allowed to wear shoes while walking around when I’m asleep!”
Ruan Tang shuddered, lowering her eyes even further.
Before long, a peeled apple was offered to her.
She raised her head, her eyes dazed and confused.
Song Chenxi’s expression was calm, and her voice was light and gentle.
“The seller said it was quite sweet. Hurry and taste it.”
*
After Ruan Tang ate the apple and drank some porridge, the door was violently pushed open, startling her.
“My darling! My precious little girl!”
The moment Bai Lan entered, she cupped Song Chenxi’s face and examined her from left to right, never once looking properly at Ruan Tang on the bed.
“Quickly tell Mommy where you’re hurt!”
Before Song Chenxi could respond, Bai Lan pulled her into a tight embrace, making it difficult for her to breathe.
“Mom, I-I’m fine. It’s Ruan Tang. She had a fever.”
The instant Song Chenxi finished speaking, the tension disappeared from Bai Lan’s brow. A delighted smile spread across her face the next second.
“Oh, as long as you’re fine. You nearly frightened me to death.”
After speaking, Bai Lan pulled a crystal cigarette case from her bag.
“Want one? It’s a new product.”
“I don’t smoke. And Mom, this is a smoke-free ward.”
Song Chenxi looked at Bai Lan and pointed toward the no-smoking sign on the wall.
Bai Lan widened her small eyes in surprise. After an awkward “Oh,” she returned the cigarette to its case.
“I was shopping earlier and saw a set of jewelry for you…”
Bai Lan did not care about Ruan Tang at all.
Song Chenxi suddenly saw her former, ignored self in Ruan Tang.
Her expression darkened, and she lowered her voice.
“Mom, Ruan Tang had a fever. She isn’t feeling well.”
Bai Lan froze and glanced at the nervous, frightened Omega.
“Oh.”
Then she continued, “That jewelry set was designed by an Italian designer…”
“Mom, aren’t you going to show even the slightest concern for her?”
Song Chenxi’s expression grew increasingly cold.
Song Chenxi had never made a habit of demanding anything from other people. Yet seeing Ruan Tang being ignored caused an inexplicable fire to rise inside her, burning her heart in countless tiny clusters.
Bai Lan looked utterly confused.
Since when had her precious daughter cared about anyone else—especially one of these toys?
“Why should I?” she asked. “Don’t tell me you refused to meet the Omega I wanted to introduce because of her.”
Song Chenxi stepped back toward the bed.
“Yes. I already have an Omega. She is my Omega.”
Bai Lan looked incredulous.
“I’ve never seen you care about any of your Omegas before.”
“I care now.”
After speaking, Song Chenxi gently stroked Ruan Tang’s long black hair.
“Also, she isn’t just some Omega. She has a name. Her name is Ruan Tang.”
Ruan Tang’s expression froze, and her shoulders abruptly drew inward in alarm.
This was far from the first or second time Bai Lan had ignored her. Ruan Tang had long since grown accustomed to it.
What surprised her was that Song Chenxi had defended her in front of Bai Lan for the first time.
Even more shocking was that Song Chenxi had refused to meet another Omega because of her.
In the past, such a thing would have been pure fantasy.
What exactly had happened to her master?
Passing the hospital-room doorway, Pei Fei heard their conversation and stopped walking.
*
“Oh my God! Did you see Song Chenxi just now? She was unbelievably cool!”
“I saw her! I saw her! She’s nothing like the rumors!”
“That’s right. She’s very polite and incredibly protective of her own. She came to the nurses’ station specifically to ask whether we had any medicine that wasn’t as bitter because she was worried her Omega couldn’t tolerate it.”
“She accompanied her Omega throughout every examination too. Goodness—she’s beautiful, kindhearted, wealthy, and devoted to her partner. If only she were my Alpha!”
“There are far too few Alphas who care about their Omegas these days, much less ones who take care of them so attentively. Girl, stop dreaming.”
…
The young nurses chatted back and forth, but every part of their conversation revolved around Song Chenxi.
Pei Fei said disdainfully, “You can know someone’s face without knowing their heart. Some people act one way in public and another behind closed doors.”
The moment they saw Dr. Pei, the young nurses immediately scattered like startled birds.
“We’re going to draw Ruan Tang’s blood.”
“Mm,” Pei Fei responded before sinking into thought.
Since Ruan Tang had been hospitalized, her daily blood tests were conducted inside her room.
The young nurses all wanted a closer look at Song Chenxi. At the same time, they wanted to see what kind of peerless beauty had made the Song family’s second daughter treasure her so dearly.
A blood draw that ordinarily required only one nurse suddenly brought four or five of them into the room.
Song Chenxi genuinely froze at the sight of the group.
“Excuse me, does she need another examination?”
When Song Chenxi addressed them, the others pushed the head nurse forward. Her face flushed, and she did not dare look directly at Song Chenxi.
“Um… we’re here to draw Ruan Tang’s blood.”
The instant the head nurse finished speaking, Ruan Tang’s shoulders sank.
Drawing blood was what she feared most.
The pain of having her skin pierced and her blood extracted was carved deeply into her memory. Her face became even paler than before.
The nurses approached one step at a time with their equipment. Ruan Tang instinctively retreated, her fingertips anxiously digging into her palm.
Noticing something was wrong, Song Chenxi put on her shoes and approached Ruan Tang first.
She was tall. Standing beside the bed, she completely enveloped Ruan Tang in her shadow.
It was as though she had erected a protective barrier around the Omega.
“Wait.”
Song Chenxi raised a hand, signaling for everyone to stop approaching.
“Which arm are you drawing from?”
“The left.”
Song Chenxi bent down and held Ruan Tang’s left hand between both of hers. As she slowly rolled up Ruan Tang’s sleeve, she whispered, “Ruan Tang, don’t be afraid. It will only feel like a mosquito bite.”
Ruan Tang looked at Song Chenxi’s hands, and her heartbeat abruptly accelerated.
Although she remained somewhat frightened, she felt slightly comforted.
Song Chenxi gently rubbed Ruan Tang’s arm to help her relax.
Just as the needle was about to touch her skin, Ruan Tang abruptly turned her head and instinctively looked toward Song Chenxi.
But her fear of her master, which surpassed even instinct, forced her to turn in the opposite direction.
Suddenly, warmth covered her face.
Song Chenxi gently turned Ruan Tang back, covered her ears, and rested her forehead against her abdomen.
“Ruan Tang, don’t look. If you don’t look, it won’t be frightening. It will be over very soon. Think about that little black cat. It chases butterflies through the flower bed and looks so clumsy and adorable…”
Ruan Tang listened attentively to her master and imagined the little black cat.
After it ate its fill, its belly became round and plump. Whenever Ruan Tang called to it, it would roll around on the ground.
With her attention diverted, the needle entering her arm truly did not hurt as much.
Standing outside the door, Pei Fei pushed the black-framed glasses higher on the bridge of her nose.
Was this person truly Song Chenxi?
