After The Cannon Fodder Died, She Became The Female Lead’s White Moonlight (GL) - Chapter 27.2
And this sorrow was given to her by the person she loved most.
Shen Sijin’s mind felt vague. She didn’t know what mindset she should adopt to confront Che Gulai now.
This was her first relationship. She didn’t know what she was supposed to do after being deceived by her lover.
Bai Mingyu saw she was in a bad mood and decided to change the subject. “Do you want to go make desserts for Sister Gulai tomorrow? I’ll make them with you.”
Shen Sijin’s subdued eyes moved, and then she slowly shook her head.
“No, I don’t want to make them anymore.”
Che Gulai had been busy trying to recover a video for the past few days. It was from a miniature camera. The exterior was mostly destroyed, but fortunately, the interior hadn’t been completely ruined, so there was still a chance to recover the footage.
The video inside the camera was extremely important to Che Gulai; it was a critical weapon that could destroy Chen Youfan.
Chen Youfan was a popular traffic star in the entertainment industry. To ruin him, she had to destroy his reputation.
Her mind had been focused entirely on destroying Chen Youfan, so she hadn’t thought much about Shen Sijin. She didn’t even realize that Shen Sijin hadn’t messaged her for a week, and the desserts she used to send regularly hadn’t arrived.
Only when the camera issue finally showed some promise was she able to rest a little.
She checked her phone one day and realized Shen Sijin hadn’t messaged her at all.
Did her attitude that day make her angry?
Che Gulai tutted. She got angry over that?
She has an attitude now.
What right does she have to be angry with me?
Che Gulai didn’t even want to coax her. She thought, I haven’t even started taking revenge on her yet, and this stupid rabbit dares to give me the cold shoulder.
Does she really think she’s spoiled because she’s loved?
Che Gulai’s face was so cold it looked like snow was about to fall. Xiao Xu shivered when she walked in.
“Ms…. Ms. Che, this is the script for the collaboration sent by Director Li.”
“Mhm.”
Xiao Xu finished her task and just wanted to leave quickly, but Che Gulai stopped her.
“…What is it, Ms. Che?”
“What was Shen Sijin doing in my office that day?”
Xiao Xu honestly explained the situation.
Che Gulai waved her hand, telling her to leave.
Was Shen Sijin trying to ask her something that day?
Che Gulai was curious about what she wanted to say. After work, she went to the dessert shop where Shen Sijin worked. She knew Shen Sijin usually went to Bai Yu’s sister’s shop to work after school.
When Che Gulai entered the shop, it was rush hour. The staff were busy. Shen Sijin was tall, and Che Gulai spotted her right away.
I haven’t seen her in a week. Why does she look thinner?
She didn’t disturb Shen Sijin, finding a random seat. After a while, a server finally came to ask what she wanted.
Che Gulai said, “Send the tall girl with the short curly hair over to serve me.”
The server was confused at first, then realized. “Ah, you mean Xiao Jin? Okay, please wait a moment.”
“Xiao Jin, the customer at table 56 specifically requested you.”
Shen Sijin was whipping cream. Hearing this, she asked, “Me? Why me?”
“I don’t know,” the person said. “That customer is super beautiful. Maybe she’s your friend? Go check.”
Shen Sijin was puzzled, but she went.
From a distance, she saw Che Gulai sitting at table 56. Her first reaction was to leave, but Che Gulai rested her hand on her chin, looking directly toward her.
Che Gulai had seen her. Shen Sijin couldn’t leave now.
She had no choice but to walk over, saying stiffly, “What do you need?”
“I need you to sit across from me,” Che Gulai said calmly.
Seeing her face, the bitterness welled up in Shen Sijin’s throat again.
“If that’s all, I’ll go.” She tried to leave.
“Stop right there.” Che Gulai said slowly, lifting her chin toward the seat opposite her. “Sit here.”
Shen Sijin hesitated for a moment but finally sat down.
Che Gulai mocked her. “Shen Sijin, you’ve sulked long enough. Keep acting up, and you’ll become annoying.”
“Do you think I’m throwing a tantrum?” Shen Sijin said softly.
“What else would you call it?”
Shen Sijin stared intently at her.
She had avoided seeing Che Gulai for days, feeling deceived and played. She hadn’t expected Che Gulai to view her as merely throwing an irrational fit.
A lump of stone seemed to be stuck in her throat, making it impossible to speak. She was silent for a long time. Under Che Gulai’s increasingly impatient gaze, she finally spoke with difficulty.
“The cakes in your cabinet… I saw them.”
Che Gulai’s pupils contracted. She frowned. “What?”
Shen Sijin found it hard to say. “I saw the spoiled cakes in your cabinet. They were all the desserts I made for you.”
Che Gulai’s face darkened.
So Shen Sijin’s silence these past few days was because of this.
Che Gulai had thrown all the desserts into the cabinet and would dispose of them all at once every so often. The last batch had probably not been disposed of in time, and unfortunately, Shen Sijin discovered them.
Che Gulai felt no shame at being caught. “So what? Is that all you wanted to talk about?”
Shen Sijin thought she must have misheard. “Aren’t you… going to give me an explanation? Why did you waste all the desserts I made? If…” Her sadness was undisguised. “If you didn’t like them, why didn’t you tell me and let me waste my time making them for so long?”
“And… why did you lie and say they tasted good?”
Che Gulai didn’t feel she had done anything wrong, but she couldn’t admit it now. The act was exposed, so she had to cover it up.
“I didn’t want to reject your kind intentions,” Che Gulai said in a coaxing tone. “You finally have a hobby you like, and I didn’t have the heart to discourage you.”
Shen Sijin noticed Che Gulai’s little finger curl slightly. Che Gulai probably didn’t realize that she unconsciously hooked her little finger when she lied.
Shen Sijin had only recently discovered this habit.
Che Gulai was lying.
Shen Sijin tightly pressed her lips together, her eyelashes trembling slightly.
“Is that so?”
Shen Sijin asked for a Snowflake Crisp from the menu. She said slowly, “This is the shop’s new item. It tastes much better than mine. Try some.”
Che Gulai wasn’t interested in sweets; she actually disliked them. She avoided eating them as much as possible. She made an excuse. “I ate this kind today, so I don’t feel like having any more.”
She just doesn’t like eating them, Shen Sijin thought.
If she didn’t like eating them, yet she let her make desserts for her for so long, making her feel like a clown, secretly happy over her false praise every day.
Shen Sijin genuinely didn’t understand what Che Gulai was thinking.
In the week she hadn’t contacted her, Che Gulai had hardly asked why she hadn’t messaged her or sought her out. It was as if Che Gulai had forgotten she existed.
It had always been like this. It was always Shen Sijin who took the initiative, while Che Gulai was always indifferent, even cold.
She felt she was beginning to not understand Che Gulai at all.
Why the deception?
Shouldn’t lovers be honest with each other?
Why was her relationship different?
“Are you still angry?” Che Gulai was becoming impatient, seeing her still sullen.
She held Shen Sijin’s hand, which was resting on the table. “You’re a good girl. You won’t throw a fit, right?”
Shen Sijin looked at their touching hands. “I…”
If she threw a fit, would Che Gulai get angry?
If she got angry, she probably wouldn’t talk to me anymore.
Shen Sijin thought about it and couldn’t accept a scenario where Che Gulai ignored her. In this world, Che Gulai was her spiritual anchor, her utopia. If she lost her…
She couldn’t imagine a reality without Che Gulai yet.
This was the first time she had liked someone this much. She didn’t know how to love someone. She only knew that if she wasn’t obedient, she would end up being abandoned, just like her mother and grandfather had done to her.
Even though her heart was raining, Shen Sijin forced a smile. “Mhm.”
But it felt strange. Che Gulai’s hand was very warm, yet her hand felt only coldness.
