After The Cannon Fodder Died, She Became The Female Lead’s White Moonlight (GL) - Chapter 28.2
Shen Sijin was half-convinced. Her love for Che Gulai made her believe her without question, but deep down, she felt something was amiss.
“You don’t believe me?” Che Gulai’s tone turned cold.
“No, I do,” Shen Sijin quickly said, blinking her eyes. In the end, she was still afraid of Che Gulai getting angry.
She actually had other things she wanted to ask. She wanted to know if her relationship with Sang He was truly just a simple superior-subordinate one.
Why did Che Gulai get so agitated when she heard Sang He’s name, to the point of leaving her alone in the lounge?
The last time, that rainy night, Che Gulai also planned to abandon her after hearing Sang He’s name.
Between her and Sang He, Che Gulai always chose the latter.
It was as if she could be abandoned at will.
If she asked that, would Che Gulai answer her?
Would she get angry?
Shen Sijin couldn’t figure it out. She didn’t know why their relationship had suddenly become like this. She began to constantly fear making Che Gulai angry. Even though Che Gulai was often in the wrong, it was Shen Sijin herself who was nervous and anxious.
Is this really a normal love?
Undeniably, she still loved Che Gulai, but Che Gulai didn’t seem to love her that much.
Was it just a misconception?
Shen Sijin tightly gripped her right wrist. The pain there was obvious, yet it calmed her emotions.
Her heart felt uncomfortable.
In the following days, Che Gulai was busy again with the matter involving Chen Youfan. The video footage couldn’t be recovered, but the audio could be heard. Che Gulai had the sound extracted and then went back to dealing with other matters.
Shen Sijin tried to find her a few times, but she was given the cold shoulder. While she was feeling sad, Che Gulai proactively sought her out one day and told her some things.
Che Gulai worked until midnight at the company before leaving. On her way back, a car suddenly swerved toward her. Che Gulai quickly turned the steering wheel. Although she avoided the car, she crashed into a tree and passed out.
When she woke up again, she found herself tied to a chair inside an abandoned building.
Chen Youfan was sitting across from her.
“What, are you going to tie me up and break my legs again?” Che Gulai mocked him.
Chen Youfan no longer had that repulsive smiling face. “Sister, I wanted to court you properly, but I didn’t expect you to find out things you shouldn’t have.”
Che Gulai tugged at the corner of her mouth. “Like, ah, I know.”
She narrowed her eyes. “Is it the matter of you killing your assistant?”
Chen Youfan’s eyes were cold. “How much more do you know?”
“A lot.” Che Gulai showed no sign of nervousness from being tied up. Her expression was calm as lake water.
“I also know you strangled your assistant with a tie and faked her suicide to deceive the public.”
Chen Youfan’s face contorted, and he actually laughed. “I’m curious, how did you find out?”
“It’s the same answer: I’ll tell you when you’re dead.”
“I’m not the one who should die!” Chen Youfan suddenly became frantic. “Her parents ran over and killed my parents. She had the gall to become my assistant as ‘atonement,’ but she was just pitying me! I don’t need that! She should die just like her parents!!”
Che Gulai looked at him calmly. “So you strangled her.”
Chen Youfan’s mental state was also poor. The guilt he had hidden for so long was being exposed. He was close to losing his mind.
“She told me to kill her! She was a damned sinner! Shouldn’t she have died?”
Chen Youfan’s feminine face twisted. “I thought no one would ever discover this, but you did, Sister. Even though I love you very much, I’ll love you even more if you’re dead.”
“You’re going to be disappointed.” Che Gulai was self-possessed.
“What?”
The next second, numerous police officers rushed in.
Chen Youfan was startled. Then he realized.
“You let yourself get caught on purpose.”
Che Gulai didn’t speak, which was an admission.
“Gulai!” Shen Sijin rushed up the stairs. Seeing her tied up, she was terrified.
Chen Youfan knew he had been tricked. He was too flustered. After hearing Che Gulai’s words, he had impulsively captured her, only to walk right into her trap.
“How did you do it?” Chen Youfan was curious.
“Your assistant came to me. She probably knew she was going to die that day, so she told me to go to Xishan Villa the next day. Although the room was severely damaged, I still found that camera.”
However, the camera was badly damaged and could only recover the audio frequency. The sound was also intermittent and hard to hear. Che Gulai was afraid the audio wouldn’t be strong enough evidence to completely ruin him.
So, she deliberately mentioned the related events in front of Chen Youfan to make him panic and resort to kidnapping her.
She had already installed a tracker and a voice recorder on her body. She had informed Shen Sijin about this beforehand, instructing her to bring the police and ultimately trick Chen Youfan into confessing everything, recording all his crimes.
Chen Youfan burst into a loud, maniacal laugh.
“Sister, you are truly fascinating.” Chen Youfan wiped away a tear. “I’m really curious who you could possibly love.”
“I won’t love anyone,” Che Gulai replied emotionlessly.
Shen Sijin looked at Che Gulai in a daze, her eyes blank. She didn’t understand the meaning of that sentence.
What does she mean, ‘I won’t love anyone’?
“That’s wonderful!” Chen Youfan looked crazed. “Sister, since you don’t love anyone, come and keep me company!”
Saying that, he pulled out a knife. Shen Sijin’s pupils constricted rapidly. “Gulai—”
Clang—
Bang—
Chen Youfan’s wrist was hit by a gunshot. The knife dropped to the floor.
“Shen Sijin!” Che Gulai cried out in shock.
Che Gulai saw Shen Sijin’s hand grasp the knife. Blood dripped from her palm.
“I see,” Chen Youfan seemed to realize something. He looked at Shen Sijin. “So you love her.”
He laughed, whispering so only the two of them could hear. “You’re truly unlucky, falling for a villain.”
“You love her, but do you know she doesn’t love you?” Chen Youfan knew he was about to die and couldn’t resist causing Che Gulai some grief.
Chen Youfan whispered another thing in her ear.
“For Che Gulai, between Sang He and you, you are the one who can be abandoned, sweetheart.”
He backed away, laughing loudly all the while.
“Sister, it’s a good thing to die by your hands.”
He jumped from the fourth floor, falling to his death on the cement ground.
Shen Sijin stared blankly as the man died right in front of her, as if witnessing the horrifying scene of her mother falling to her death again.
Her hands trembled violently. She covered her head and screamed.
Che Gulai had the ropes unbound. She rushed to Shen Sijin, grasping her wrist.
“Shen Sijin!”
“Ahhh—” Shen Sijin was completely trapped in that scene. The blood on her hand smeared her pale face, making her look terrified and deranged.
She kept screaming. Che Gulai’s heart began to feel unwell too. She tried her best to soothe the hysterical Shen Sijin.
“Shen Sijin, it’s me, Gulai. Look at me.”
Shen Sijin might have heard her. Her movements calmed down a little. She saw Che Gulai’s face and was instantly reminded of Chen Youfan’s words.
“She doesn’t love you.”
“You are the one who can be abandoned.”
And then Che Gulai’s cold words.
“I won’t love anyone.”
Gradually, she saw Che Gulai’s beautiful face morph into a gray, grotesque face.
“Ah—” Shen Sijin violently pushed her away, scrambling backward on the ground in panic.
Che Gulai was pushed to the floor, slightly angry. “Shen Sijin!”
Shen Sijin didn’t know what was wrong with her. She was just scared.
Scared of her mother’s dead face, scared of those suffocating words, and scared of Che Gulai’s gray, blurry face.
There were many people around her. Every face was the same gray, blurry one. They were all sneering at her, trying to kill her.
She couldn’t even tell which one was Che Gulai.
Tears poured from her eyes. She clutched her head, saying with a trembling voice, “Gulai, I’m so scared…”
Che Gulai told the police to deal with Chen Youfan’s body first. Only the two of them remained. Che Gulai crouched down in front of her. “Don’t be scared. I’m here.”
Shen Sijin looked up. The gray face had returned to its original beautiful features.
She threw herself into Che Gulai’s arms, hugging her tightly. Her body shook like a leaf in a storm.
Her face was stained with tears. Her light-colored pupils seemed to have lost their clarity, leaving only a dark emptiness.
She hugged Che Gulai, but the unrest in her heart, abnormally, didn’t ease.
Shen Sijin’s gaze was fixed on Che Gulai’s profile. Those words returned to her mind again.
Che Gulai’s expression was as calm as ever. The person who hated hugs so much didn’t reject her.
Shen Sijin should have been happy, but at this moment, she only felt that Che Gulai was a complete stranger.
