I’m Definitely Taking This Scumbag Alpha Role! - Chapter 1
In June, typhoons gradually began to form.
The weather forecast said a typhoon would arrive today. Rain was trapped in the clouds, and the entire city was wrapped in humid, stifling heat.
Summer had only just begun, yet the weather was already this irritating.
Ying Que shuffled out of her room in slippers, her freshly bleached curls gleaming gold under the lights.
If beauty had to be divided into categories, Ying Que would absolutely belong to the dazzling, seductive kind.
Half of her silk robe hung from her shoulder, while the other half had slipped down to her elbow.
The poor sash barely managed to preserve its owner’s privacy, but it could not guard against its owner’s generosity.
Her slender neck was the starting point of the brushstroke. Every place the fabric failed to cover was pale, smooth, and symmetrically fair, the whiteness flowing on and on.
Perhaps when the Creator shaped this Alpha, they had added an extra touch of carelessness and flamboyance.
Ying Que did not care. In fact, she was looking forward to a certain Omega coming home and seeing her like this.
The only pity was that the weather was bad.
Ying Que lifted her eyes and glanced at the gloomy sky outside the window, her brows twisting together in annoyance.
Even the gentle lights in the hallway could not dissolve the Alpha’s displeasure.
Though the light swept softly over the side of Ying Que’s face, making her clear brows and eyes look harmless enough, that hard-to-provoke hostility still leaked from the corners of her eyes, filling them with languid irritation.
At first, Ying Que had been glad that the crew had stopped filming because of the typhoon, allowing her to come home and rest. Now she truly felt she had celebrated too soon.
“Boring.”
“Buzz.”
Just as she was getting bored, her phone rang.
Ying Que flicked her hair aside and decided to see who had messaged her, and whether they could bring her some good news.
[Gu Yuan: Eldest Miss, the reagent Miss Wei uses just passed the clinical 3.0 version. When are you coming to get it?]
Ying Que’s eyes lit up.
—Now this was good news.
The Miss Wei Gu Yuan mentioned was the Omega Ying Que was waiting for at home: Wei Zhixu.
A year ago, Wei Zhixu, who was an orphan, had been brought home by Ying Que’s Alpha mother, Ying Ming, to stay temporarily.
Ying Que had fallen in love at first sight with this beautiful Omega Sister, who was five years older than her. She could be said to have clung to her relentlessly, using every method available to her.
Later, after Ying Que lost control during her sensitive period and accidentally discovered that Wei Zhixu’s gland had been injured, causing a pheromone-release disorder during her heat, Ying Que waved her hand and invested in Gu Yuan’s pharmaceutical laboratory, having them develop a special inhibitor for Wei Zhixu.
The special medicine had been developed quickly, with results appearing after only half a year. Wei Zhixu benefited greatly from it.
But Ying Que was greedy. She hoped the medicine would be as effective for Wei Zhixu as possible—best if Wei Zhixu became unable to live without it.
Ying Que firmly believed that once someone had seen a new world, it would be very hard for them to return to the old way of living.
It did not matter if Wei Zhixu did not like her for the time being. As long as Ying Que held this medicine in her hands, Wei Zhixu would not be able to leave her.
She could only be her Omega.
Ying Que smiled slyly and ordered Gu Yuan: [Send it to me right now.]
Gu Yuan found this unbelievable and sent over a voice message: [Eldest Miss, there’s a typhoon.]
Ying Que was perfectly self-righteous: [That’s why you have to hurry.]
[…]
Gu Yuan made absolutely no attempt to hide her speechlessness from Ying Que.
Gu Yuan truly did not know whether knowing Ying Que was a blessing or a curse.
But considering that Ying Que had invested in her and allowed her to research the things she wanted to research, Gu Yuan still resigned herself to her fate and tucked the insulated reagent container away. [Eldest Miss, please wait a moment.]
[Okay.]
Ying Que was satisfied. Her nails tapped against the screen, then she sent Wei Zhixu a message too: [Sister, A-Yuan’s medicine has a 3.0 version now. We have a new medicine to try this month.]
She did not say she would send it to you. She did not say you would try it.
With one “we,” she tied the two of them together.
“Boom!”
A pallid flash of light tore open a crack in the heavy, suffocating summer, and thunder followed close behind.
The window glass suddenly brightened. On the phone screen, the contact name “Sister” with a little heart beside it became especially obvious.
Who knew what expression Wei Zhixu wore when she saw this message? In the chat box, she only replied with one simple word: [Okay.]
Such a light word.
Such an important word.
From the very second Ying Que received Wei Zhixu’s response, her smile deepened even further.
“Sister, I will definitely make you belong to me.”
At last, footsteps sounded again in the hallway, sharper and lighter than before, forming an entirely different atmosphere from the dull, oppressive weather outside the window.
She would go downstairs and wait for A-Yuan to deliver the medicine.
And while she was at it, she would open the sea-shipped package that had just arrived.
Ying Que calculated this in her heart.
Inside the package were the ancient books Wei Zhixu had spent a long time searching for in order to write her script.
Ying Que was very much looking forward to Wei Zhixu giving her a role to act in for the sake of Ying Que having found those ancient books for her.
Long before Wei Zhixu moved into the Ying family’s home, Ying Que had already heard of her.
Wei Zhixu, twenty-seven years old, came from a Chinese literature background. Both of her mothers had been major screenwriters in the industry, and more than ten years ago, they had both died in an accident while gathering field material.
Wei Zhixu had completely inherited her mothers’ talent. The essay-style novel she wrote in college was noticed by a famous director and adapted into a script, winning an international award in one fell swoop.
Later, she inherited her mothers’ connections in the industry and became a screenwriter. Every script she wrote was excellent, both critically acclaimed and commercially successful. There was not a single actor who did not want to work with Wei Zhixu.
So when Wei Zhixu came to stay at their home, Ying Que had actually been rather surprised.
“It’s fate. Fate made sure Sister and I were destined to meet, and made sure I would act in her script.”
Standing before the mirror on the stair landing, Ying Que cupped her own face.
She looked like a fox. A bad fox who was not to be provoked. When she smiled, the upward tilt of her eyes carried a wayward, untamed air.
“It would be even better if Sister personally taught me hands-on.”
There was no actor who did not want Wei Zhixu to personally guide them.
It was just that when Ying Que said this, her tone carried a few traces of suggestiveness, as though her focus regarding Wei Zhixu’s guidance leaned more toward the words “hands-on.”
“Boom!”
The thunder outside the window grew even louder, the flash turning the mirror white.
This thunder seemed very close to Ying Que’s home. Sound and light arrived almost at the same time, startling Ying Que without warning.
The beautiful fox face in the mirror lost all its color. Ying Que frowned and was just about to curse when a voice beside her ear interrupted her—
[Mission taker: Qin Ye. Mission world: no.351. Mission: replace scumbag Alpha Ying Que and become the lover of Omega female lead Wei Zhixu, eliminating the risk of Wei Zhixu blackening and destroying the world. Channel linking. Countdown to transfer into the mission world: 10, 9…]
“What the hell?”
Ying Que’s brows knitted tightly, deeply confused by the voice she had just heard.
Scumbag Alpha?
How was she a scumbag Alpha?
She liked Wei Zhixu so much she wished she could pluck the stars from the sky and give them to her. How could she be a scumbag Alpha?!
Don’t joke around!
“Achoo!”
A gust of wind blew in from outside the window, and Ying Que inexplicably felt a chill creep over her body.
She subconsciously wanted to leave this place, so she quickened her pace down the stairs.
But the moment she sped up, something went wrong. Ying Que felt empty air beneath her foot. She had actually stepped wrong and tumbled straight down the stairs.
“!”
The world spun violently. Ying Que fell from the stairs to the floor below.
But strangely, she did not feel any pain at all. She could even climb up from the floor with ease.
The sound of someone falling down the stairs was not small, and it quickly alarmed the servants at home.
The first thing Ying Que heard was the housekeeper auntie’s panic-stricken voice. “Miss! Miss, what happened to you?!”
“Who cleaned the stairs today?! How could—”
Ying Que was furious and walked over to question the housekeeper.
But the housekeeper walked straight toward her, then passed through her body as though she had not seen her at all.
Ying Que froze on the spot.
What was going on?
Ying Que looked down at herself and actually saw the floor beneath her feet through the palm of her hand.
An ominous feeling exploded in her mind. She followed the housekeeper’s figure with her eyes and saw that she herself was currently lying face-down on the floor at the foot of the stairs.
Blood trickled from her forehead, thick and slow.
Yet it was so piercing, so painful to look at.
She…
Had she died?
“Boom!”
Cold instantly drilled into every part of Ying Que’s body, and thunder once again split in through the window.
Closer than before, it struck down with almost no distance between them, grazing Ying Que’s arm and embedding itself into the floor.
“Ah!”
A burning pain that pierced through bone and blood seized Ying Que’s arm, making her scream.
But no one could hear her scream. The household servants were all gathered around her body, which would not stop bleeding.
People came and went, constantly passing through her soul, which had just been struck by lightning.
“Crackle, crackle.”
As Ying Que stood there in a daze, the lightning sparked and struggled free from the floor.
It seemed that grazing Ying Que’s arm had been a mistake. Immediately afterward, it launched another attack at her.
“Boom!”
Lightning flashed and thunder roared. Even the stupidest person, upon seeing such a bolt of light, would understand what was going on.
—This thing was trying to scatter her soul into nothingness!
Ying Que was terrified. She had no time to deal with her agonizing arm and fled for her life in every direction.
An intangible soul was more flexible than a body with physical form.
The dining table. The wall. The tightly shut front door.
Ying Que was chased and driven away by the lightning, sprinting all the way out of the house. Dark clouds covered the road, and she had no idea where she was running.
“Crackle, crackle!”
Against the empty space beneath the bridge, the lightning behind Ying Que looked even more furious and hideous. She cared only about fleeing and did not notice at all that a blood-covered Alpha girl was running in her direction. The group of Alphas chasing the girl were not much friendlier than the thunder behind Ying Que.
“Stop right there! You still dare to run?!”
“Boom!”
The damp, chilly space beneath the bridge lit up for an instant, turning everyone’s vision briefly white.
Ying Que felt as though she had crashed into someone’s body.
“Save me.”
The girl’s voice was frail and powerless, vanishing after a single drifting breath.
Ying Que felt that voice was close at hand, yet she could not find the direction it had come from.
And then, her thoughts were seized by the pain coming from her body.
…Pain.
Unlike the singular burning sensation of being struck by lightning, every kind of pain imaginable detonated through Ying Que’s body within a millisecond.
Ying Que felt that her elbows and calves had probably been scraped raw across a large area. Her bones trembled as though crying out in pain. Her chest felt crushed, and she could not draw breath.
Ying Que was as weak as a thread of air, barely clinging to life.
Then someone grabbed her and lifted her up like a lump of rotten mud.
“Weren’t you good at running? Go on, keep running! A ruined thing whose whole family has fallen apart, and you don’t even know your own weight! Looking to die, are you?!”
Ying Que had not yet had time to realize that someone could see her when a low-grade Alpha’s crude pheromones pressed down over her head. The woman hurled a stream of abuse at her without pause.
“Miss Wu, running won’t solve your family’s problems. Didn’t I tell you? If I caught you, I absolutely wouldn’t let you have an easy time!”
Ying Que did not understand.
What Miss Wu, Miss Five, Miss Six? There were only two children in her family. If they were going to call her anything, they should call her Second Miss.
Displeasure. Disgust.
Ying Que frowned. Even though her whole body hurt terribly, the way she looked at the woman was still full of defiance.
When the woman saw the girl before her reveal such an expression, it was as though she had seen something rare and interesting. She laughed with a scoff. “Yo, angry now? That’s right, this is how it should be. This is more like an Alpha.”
Mockery. Disdain.
The woman’s finger, painted with cheap nail polish, poked Ying Que’s cheek contemptuously, as if she were playing with a cat she had picked up by the roadside.
In the twenty-two years Ying Que had lived, when had she ever been treated like this?
Did these people even know who she was? Once she found her older sister Ying Xu, she would see whether they still dared to—
“Slap!”
The slap came without warning, knocking Ying Que straight to the ground.
The taste of blood exploded through Ying Que’s mouth and surged backward into her nasal cavity.
Rage was like a ball of fire, burning along Ying Que’s aching bones.
She glared viciously at the Alpha in front of her, wanting only to reach out and tear her apart.
“Look at those eyes. She still isn’t convinced.”
“Then make her convinced!”
“You ran for so long. If you’ve got the ability, run again!”
…
“Wu Lan, I still liked the way you looked at first, when anyone could knead you however they wanted.”
The beating mixed with foul-smelling pheromones, making her head feel as though it would split apart.
Ying Que could not hear clearly what the people around her were saying. Her survival instinct made her stiffen her disobedient hands and feet, curling herself up tightly like a clam.
Someone, save her…
She did not know how long this soul-shattering violence continued. Then suddenly, for one second, Ying Que smelled rainwater splashing up mud.
“Boom!”
The rain that had been held back for an entire day finally came down, striking the ground and sending mud flying.
The world suddenly grew quiet until only the sound of rain remained.
Beside Ying Que’s ear, she suddenly heard the crisp tap of heels striking the ground.
She was dazed and muddled, her mind half-conscious.
And yet, subconsciously, she felt that she knew this sound far too well.
Following the dim yellow light, a pair of hands pushed into Ying Que’s body, which was clenched tight from stress.
Those hands had distinct bones, slender and even. Because of the force being used, blue veins stood out on the pale backs of them as they pried open Ying Que’s clam shell.
Ying Que raised her head with difficulty, and a calm face appeared in her line of sight.
It was an existence completely opposite to the damp, gloomy environment beneath the bridge. Her skin was fair and clean, her features distinct, her brows and eyes seeming as though they had been measured into place.
You could not describe what type of Omega she was. One look at her was enough to make a person feel that she was cold, distant, and untouched by even a speck of dust.
She was too clean.
She should not have appeared here.
And yet she had appeared. It seemed she had just returned from a meeting.
The sleeves of her simple white shirt were rolled above her forearms, revealing a stretch of fair wrist. An antique mechanical watch ticked along unhurriedly there—the very gift Ying Que had given her not long ago after casually finding some excuse.
Wei Zhixu.
“Sister…”
…
“We’re just here to get our boss’s money back! We’re legally exercising our rights!”
“Exactly! She owes money and won’t pay it back! She even tried to run!”
“You just wait! When our boss gets here, none of you will get away with this!”
The threats pierced through the falling rain, drowning out Ying Que’s voice.
In the face of the bodyguards’ absolute strength, these thugs had no power to resist.
Even so, Ying Que had not yet managed to break free from the shadow over her.
The world before her eyes was a scarlet chaos, completely stripped of its original glamour and brilliance.
Perhaps she should not stain Wei Zhixu’s cleanliness…
Perhaps she should drag Wei Zhixu down with her and make Wei Zhixu dirty too.
Her breath was especially visible in the summer air that had abruptly turned cold. In Ying Que’s line of sight, Wei Zhixu drew even closer.
Ying Que could even see that her blood had long since dyed Wei Zhixu’s clean fingers beyond recognition.
And Wei Zhixu did not care.
In the dim, lightless rainy night, she had a pair of eyes as clear and luminous as emerald stone.
“It’s all right now. You’re safe.”
