I’m Definitely Taking This Scumbag Alpha Role! - Chapter 4
When it came to Wei Zhixu’s orders, Ying Que almost obeyed without question.
She stepped right into Wei Zhixu’s room, then shut the door behind her. The whole process flowed smoothly, clean and decisive.
Ying Que was extremely satisfied with her own actions and smugly wanted to receive Wei Zhixu’s praise.
But to her surprise, Wei Zhixu looked at her coldly, her brows faintly furrowing. “Who told you to come in?”
“You did.” Ying Que was perfectly self-righteous as she faced Wei Zhixu’s unwelcome attitude.
A faint fragrance of lily of the valley floated in the air, and under the height of summer, the heat became even harder to endure.
Wei Zhixu looked at the Alpha standing by the door, her patience nearly gone.
What she meant was for Ying Que to go out and close the door. Who knew this person would actually come in? Could she not smell the scent in the room?
But saying more was useless. Wei Zhixu still knew what mattered more.
She picked up the inhibitor someone had sent over from the table, opened the box, assembled it, and without hesitation, aimed it at her own arm and pushed it in.
What did it feel like to watch an Omega inject an inhibitor right in front of an Alpha?
Ying Que froze.
The wind blew away the heavy cloud outside the window, and the sunlight became even more dazzling.
Perhaps because Wei Zhixu spent so many years shut in her room writing scripts, her shoulders, neck, and arms showed a kind of overexposed paleness.
As the inhibitor was pushed in, she slowly lifted her neck. Her long hair fell with the movement, like silk dampened by rain on a summer night.
So pale it became vivid.
After finishing the injection, Wei Zhixu’s hand naturally fell, pressing down on the manuscript paper and the hem of her skirt that the wind had blown up.
The white of that thin-strapped long dress carried a trace of warmth, like the blooming gardenia outside the window.
Manuscript pages fluttered, flower petals piled in layers, wrapping the Omega in heat so beautifully that even her vulnerability seemed distant and unreachable.
Only belatedly did Ying Que understand why Wei Zhixu had frowned just now, and why impatience had appeared on her face.
—Wei Zhixu’s heat had arrived.
That impostor had actually handed the inhibitor to Wei Zhixu just like that?
She had not kept the inhibitor in her own hands the way Ying Que would have, waiting for Wei Zhixu to come find her when her heat arrived?
What an idiot.
But thankfully, she was an idiot. Otherwise, Ying Que would never have seen Wei Zhixu like this.
So this beautiful Omega was actually such a clear spring.
Her heat did not stir up great waves in her body. The tide it brought only gently rippled her spring water, and even the ripples it raised were so small, so clean.
Thump, thump, thump.
Her heart was pounding fiercely. Ying Que did not know whether she herself was too useless, or whether this new body’s threshold was too low. It was practically even more excessive than when Ying Que had first fallen in love with Wei Zhixu at first sight.
Although Wei Zhixu had a heat disorder and her pheromone concentration was too low to attract Alphas, Ying Que still swallowed.
The faint, dull lily-of-the-valley scent slid through her dry mouth, burning more fiercely than if she had swallowed a mouthful of flame.
In the twenty-two years Ying Que had lived, this was the first time she had smelled an Omega’s pheromones.
Wei Zhixu’s slightly restrained, yet still trembling shoulders were etched into Ying Que’s eyes and would not leave.
At first, Ying Que still wanted to ask whether Wei Zhixu needed help, but the moment she opened her mouth, she was afraid her heart would leap out through it and that her actions would spin out of control.
This Alpha who had mistakenly barged into an Omega’s room became a block of wood standing frozen by the door, unable to go in or retreat.
Just like that, she watched thin sweat slowly slide down Wei Zhixu’s neck, waiting until the room’s fresh-air system swept away every trace of lily of the valley.
When the last wisp of lily-of-the-valley fragrance was swept away, Ying Que’s eyes nearly followed that scent out.
She was reluctant, attached, even greedy. In the palm she clenched tightly, a deep crescent mark from her nail remained, writing out her restraint.
It really was rare.
The spoiled, reckless eldest miss actually had a day when she could restrain herself.
Some Omegas did not need to release pheromones. Simply sitting there was enough to attract an Alpha.
Enough to make this Alpha obediently submit to her and listen.
About five minutes later, the heat in the room finally calmed completely.
Wei Zhixu lifted her eyelids and looked toward where Ying Que stood.
Those long, narrow eyes were born with a sense of distance. Clustered lashes lowered, casting shadows over them that made them difficult for others to see through.
She had just gone through her heat, so her breathing had yet to settle. Even her words rose and fell with lingering warmth.
It was just that Wei Zhixu’s voice was naturally cold. As she raised her hand and tossed the inhibitor syringe into the trash can, she said to Ying Que, “All right.”
The trash can was a little distance away from Wei Zhixu, yet the syringe landed inside with precision.
Her wrist, so slender that the wrist bone slightly protruded, was matched with a thin silver chain. It swayed with the motion of throwing the syringe away. In this situation, it made her seem distant to the point of casual indifference.
Her beauty and allure were directly proportional to her coldness and distance.
She was throwing away trash.
It seemed to refer to Ying Que too.
And this time, Ying Que finally understood what Wei Zhixu meant. She obediently turned around, obediently opened the door, did not cling to her any longer, and left Wei Zhixu’s room.
.
Since she had never experienced anything like this before, Ying Que did not know whether her performance just now counted as calm.
When she walked out of Wei Zhixu’s room, even her arms and legs were moving awkwardly on the same side.
Fragrant shoulders. Thin sweat.
Lily of the valley was originally a flower whose scent was almost impossible to smell, yet when it hung there, it lingered so stubbornly in a person’s mind.
Ying Que pushed open the correct door and threw herself headfirst onto the bed.
She covered her heart and slowly savored what had just happened.
Wei Zhixu’s trembling shoulders. Her tense arms.
She still remembered that drop of sweat sliding down Sister’s neck, past Sister’s collarbone, past her chest.
The scorching summer burned fiercely, roasting a person’s nerves.
Once again, she had fallen hard for Wei Zhixu.
But because of that, she was also a little unhappy.
Wei Zhixu was so cold.
How could she frown at her?
In the end, she had even driven her out.
Ying Que rolled in a big circle on the bed, like a shameless child throwing a tantrum.
Then those pale golden eyes fixed on the ceiling, filled with disappointment.
So… Wei Zhixu had not recognized that she was Ying Que, right?
Although it was reasonable that the person she liked would not recognize her after she had entered Wu Lan’s body, when Ying Que realized this, she still could not help feeling disappointed.
She liked Wei Zhixu so much.
Why did Wei Zhixu not like her?
Thinking of this, something she had heard that day suddenly flashed through Ying Que’s mind.
[Mission taker: Qin Ye. Mission world: zzzt zzzt zzzt. Mission: replace scumbag Alpha Ying Que and become the lover of female lead Wei Zhixu…]
Which Qin was this impostor’s Qin, and which Ye was her Ye?
She actually dared to dream of pretending to be Ying Que and falling in love with Wei Zhixu.
Ying Que had never been studious since she was a child. Sneaking novels in class was a routine habit. She had read, if not twenty, then at least ten novels about someone transmigrating into the body of a scumbag Alpha, turning over a new leaf, and winning the female lead’s heart. Not long ago, she had even filmed a drama like that.
Back when Ying Que read those novels and scripts, she had only cared about crying over the female leads’ feelings, forgetting there was also an original owner whom readers and viewers always ignored.
Spoiled since childhood, arrogant and tyrannical, Ying Que had never realized that she actually matched the scumbag Alpha character setting perfectly. And now, by karma’s own cycle, she had finally become the original owner who provided a “body” for a female lead from another world to come into theirs.
“Damn it.”
Ying Que shot up from the bed, her fists clenching.
Was she supposed to watch that impostor use her face, take her resources, chase the Omega she liked, then stay with her forever and become the winner in life?!
No wonder the room was wrong. It had all been switched by that Qin impostor!
Was this not the same routine novels always used? Give the female lead the best food, clothing, housing, and transportation, show the female lead that she was friendly and harmless, then little by little draw closer to the female lead until the female lead fell in love with her!
Some people said that the world in your eyes depended on where you stood.
The same person could make you feel pity or anger, all because your point of view was different.
And at this moment, the position Ying Que stood in was no longer that of another female lead replacing a scumbag Alpha to heal the female lead.
She had become the original owner.
So she was unwilling. Furious. Enraged.
She even wondered in confusion: this impostor did not have her frivolousness or wayward arrogance at all. With such a huge change in personality, had the family really not noticed?
The servants had no right to speak. Ying Ming neglected the family all year round and would probably be eager for her to become obedient.
Then what about her older sister, Ying Xu?
Her older sister was away on a business trip!
Hope flashed in Ying Que’s eyes.
On the day she had the accident, Ying Xu had been abroad. Once Ying Xu returned, she would definitely discover that the impostor was not her beloved younger sister, and that Ying Que herself was the genuine article!
The lightning thought that as long as it stopped her from exposing the impostor’s identity, the impostor would be safe and sound?
But what if someone else discovered her?
When that happened, it would not be able to punish Ying Que, right? And that impostor would be in huge trouble, right?
Her older sister was the Alpha who loved her most in the whole world.
You dare bully me.
You’re finished, Qin Ye.
From childhood to adulthood, Ying Xu had always been Ying Que’s confidence.
Thinking that her identity would soon be proven through Ying Xu, Ying Que’s mood improved.
She lay back down on the bed, crossed one leg over the other, and relaxed as she scrolled through her phone.
“Miss Wu.”
“Wu Lan.”
Perhaps she had become too absorbed in her phone. Wei Zhixu stood at Ying Que’s doorway and called her several times, but Ying Que did not react.
Only when Wei Zhixu knocked harder on Ying Que’s door did the person finally lift her head as though startled. The instant she saw Wei Zhixu, she blurted out, “Sister.”
The address came abruptly. Between two people who were not exactly familiar, it carried an especially strong lack of boundaries.
Wei Zhixu’s gaze on Ying Que shifted slightly for one second, but Ying Que did not notice at all. She only stared at Wei Zhixu’s lips and listened as she said to her, “Are you busy?”
“No.” Ying Que immediately denied it, making plenty of time for Wei Zhixu’s arrival. “Did Sister need me for something?”
“Earlier, you came to my room, and it wasn’t convenient for me. I was worried you had something to ask me, so I came to check,” Wei Zhixu replied.
After learning the reason Wei Zhixu had come to find her, Ying Que’s heart fluttered with a bit of joy.
She was no longer sad about Wei Zhixu’s coldness earlier. Instead, she turned to care about her. “I just went into the wrong room. But Sister, are you all right?”
“I’m fine.” Wei Zhixu did not say one extra word. She stood at Ying Que’s doorway like a stalk of bamboo keeping people at a distance.
Indeed, Wei Zhixu was no longer like she had been during previous heats, when she needed to stay in her room for an entire day and night to recover. Where else would she have found the extra strength to come to Ying Que’s room and ask?
It looked like Gu Yuan’s new inhibitor was very effective on Wei Zhixu. Her research investment had been a great success.
Ying Que felt a little proud, and a smile appeared on her face.
She was not good at pretending. The environment she had lived in before had never required her to pretend either. Her emotions were all written on her face.
Wei Zhixu observed the Alpha in front of her without showing any trace of it, yet from beginning to end, she never met Ying Que’s eyes. “You don’t seem very responsive to your name.”
“Ah?” Ying Que froze.
“I knocked just now and called you many times,” Wei Zhixu stated the fact.
For one instant, Ying Que felt awkward.
This was not her name, so of course she was not sensitive to it. Even the “Lan” in “Wu Lan” was a character she had only just figured out how to write.
With so many strokes crammed into one character, did it not feel excessive?
Thinking of this, Ying Que decided to give herself a new name.
A new name that would exist only between her and Wei Zhixu.
“There are a lot of things I don’t really remember anymore, so maybe I can’t react quickly.” Ying Que began acting.
“I just remember that in the past, my family didn’t seem to call me by my full name much. They all called me…”
Ying Que began scraping through her stomach for the few characters she knew.
“Queque.”
Ying Que spoke clearly, a little nervousness hidden in her eyes.
The lightning did not come, and her heart did not hurt. That meant her homophone plan had worked.
Haha, illiterate lightning, become my defeated opponent!
“Sister can call me Queque from now on. It’s my nickname.” Ying Que said this cheerfully, her golden eyes shining brightly.
Unlike the timid and frail impression she had given Wei Zhixu when they first met, right now, she looked like a little sparrow hopping around under the sun.
“Queque?” Wei Zhixu repeated. But for the sake of accuracy, she still confirmed with Ying Que, “Which ‘que’ is it?”
“The que in maque, sparrow. It means a little bird,” Ying Que explained.
“Queque.” Wei Zhixu’s gaze darkened slightly, only then realizing she had guessed wrong.
But she felt that the meaning of this name was better than “Queque” as in Ying Que’s “Que.” “Birds are very free. It’s a very good nickname.”
What could make someone happier than having the name they chose recognized by the person they liked?
Ying Que was wild with joy and immediately echoed her. “I think so too. Sister and I are always in collusion with each other.”
“That’s not how you use that phrase.” As a screenwriter, Wei Zhixu corrected her out of habit.
But Ying Que was not a good student. She waved a hand, having no intention of asking for the correct usage. “As long as Sister understands what I mean. We have a meeting of minds.”
Ignorant and utterly self-righteous.
Wei Zhixu looked at the face in front of her. The redness at the corners of her eyes, left over from her recent heat, made it hard to tell that she was deep in thought.
Knock, knock, knock.
The servant’s knock was neither light nor heavy. It was hard to say whether it counted as abrupt.
After receiving both Ying Que’s and Wei Zhixu’s gazes, she said gently to them, “Miss Wei, Miss Wu, Eldest Miss has returned. She also brought Japanese food. She asked me to tell you both to come downstairs and eat together.”
Before Wei Zhixu could react, Ying Que jumped off the bed.
Ying Xu was back.
Her sky was about to brighten!
