I’m Definitely Taking This Scumbag Alpha Role! - Chapter 7
Fulfill what promise?
Ying Que had not even inherited Wu Lan’s debts yet. Where was she supposed to fulfill a promise for these “triplets”?
“Who are you?”
Ying Que could not do anything that meant lowering her head to someone. Besides, right now she was lying on the floor while the other person stood, putting her who knew how many heads lower.
As she spoke, she got up from the floor with quick hands and feet, then pressed straight toward Triplet Number One without dodging at all.
Triplet Number One nearly got shoved to the ground. Luckily, Number Two and Number Three caught her. “Wu Lan, is your brain broken?”
“Your brain is the one that’s broken. Cerebellum out of balance, can’t see people, running around with that lousy cup. Next time I knock you over, don’t blame me for not warning you first.” Ying Que thought it was unlucky and forcefully raked her fingers through the hair that had been dripped on.
“Wu Lan, are you crazy? How can you talk to Yiyi like that?” Triplet Number Two found Ying Que’s words and actions unbelievable, her expression exaggerated.
“Pfft.”
Unable to hold it in, Ying Que laughed.
She had named that person Twin Number One in her head, and she really was called “Yiyi.”
“Then are you called Er’er?” Ying Que laughed as she looked at Triplet Number Two, not hiding her emotions at all.
Triplet Number Two was furious. “What Er’er? What nonsense are you saying? My name is Shanshan!”
“Oh, Sansan. Sorry about that. I remembered it wrong. I’ll change it right now.” Ying Que apologized with what seemed like great sincerity and seriously swapped the labels of Triplet Number Two and Number Three in her head.
“That’s more like it. You—” Triplet Number Three was just feeling smug that Ying Que treated her better than Triplet Number One, when Number Two beside her interrupted. “Didn’t you notice she’s making fun of us? Yiyi is Number One, and you’re Number Three.”
Number Three suddenly understood and looked up at Number One in shock.
Number One’s expression darkened. She was extremely displeased with Ying Que.
“Wu Lan, stop playing dumb here. You were the one who wanted to play with me. You were the one who said you’d take us friends to Hawaii over summer break.” Number One’s tone was gentle, but she pressed forward with every step. “We’ve already bought everything. If you don’t keep your promise, the consequences may be something you can’t accept.”
This person looked down at others with her chin lifted, trying to overpower Ying Que with the momentum of being a head taller in her sky-high heels.
But how could Ying Que be afraid?
She was a famously spoiled second-generation heir, afraid of neither heaven nor earth.
Those blue-purple eyes no longer held any trace of timidity. They stared straight into the other person’s eyes. “Consequences?”
“You really must have gone crazy from poverty. Coming to school to sponge off others, even begging for a trip to Hawaii.” Ying Que sneered and leaned against the practice barre behind her.
“What did you say?!” Number One completely disregarded her image and shouted the question.
Ying Que’s ears hurt from the yell. She tilted her head and rubbed her ear, irritation clearly burning in her eyes. “If your ears are deaf, go see a doctor. I’m not a doctor, and I don’t have time to give you a free consultation.”
Only now did Ying Que confirm that Wu Lan had most likely been bullied in the past.
The so-called friendship with these three had, in reality, made her their wallet.
This really opened her eyes. On the very first day of school, she had run into something like this.
Wu Lan was Wu Lan. She, Ying Que, was Ying Que.
She would never compromise herself for so-called “friendship” and become some sucker.
“Friendly reminder, that jacket you’re wearing has already gone to the outlet stores, so you should stop wearing it. It doesn’t really fit your ‘persona.’” Ying Que mercilessly exposed Number One’s false mask. As she spoke, she even raised both hands and made two sets of air quotes to add quotation marks around the word “persona.”
Class was about to begin, and quite a few people had already arrived. Number One’s shout just now had made many people look over.
Being publicly exposed made the expression on Number One’s face turn colorful. Everyone’s measuring gazes burned against her body.
Perhaps thinking the fire was not burning fiercely enough, Ying Que continued teasing, “My suggestion is that when you pick your next person to bully, you can consider how many fashion resources they can bring you. What kind of nouveau riche getup is this? If you sat on my plane, I’d feel embarrassed.”
“Is this still Wu Lan?”
“Why is she suddenly talking like this? So rude…”
“With everything that happened to her family, if she didn’t become like this, she probably wouldn’t have survived.”
“Yeah, she’s really pitiful.”
“What’s pitiful? Our Wu Lan is a warrior now!”
“I think Wu Lan is totally right. That was so satisfying. Applause for her!”
“Exactly. She should have stood up to Fang Yiyi a long time ago.”
…
No one had expected that the Wu Lan who used to be so timid and submissive would speak with such sharpness.
The people around them discussed in whispers. Fang Yiyi was like a frozen artificial idiot, her mouth open but unable to make a sound.
If not for helping Wu Lan vent, Ying Que would not have wasted words on a person like this. After saying what she needed to say, she did not spare Fang Yiyi another glance and strode away.
Sunlight poured through the bright glass and scattered across the vast practice room.
Ying Que wore practice clothes and dance shoes, walking openly beneath everyone’s gaze toward the center of the room.
Her long hair was tied high, neat and meticulous, with only a few loose strands lightly floating, dotted with golden light.
No.
She was glowing.
.
There was nothing difficult about body-shaping class. After one class, Ying Que even felt her body had loosened up quite a bit.
A breeze brushed through the corridor. Passing students talked and laughed.
Ying Que had not stayed at school for a long time. Walking through this picture scroll of youth, she felt somewhat nostalgic.
Not having to film for the moment and briefly enjoying campus life was not bad either.
The changing room was at the other end of the teaching building. Ying Que walked slowly and leisurely. By the time she pushed the door open and entered, almost all the Alphas in the class had already changed back into their regular clothes and left.
She opened the locker that was as tall as she was.
She took off her jacket. Took off her shoes.
Ying Que had just bent down, preparing to pull off the loose socks around her ankles, when she felt the air around her stir.
“Bang!”
The sheet metal made an impact sound, abrupt and piercing.
Solidly, Ying Que was slammed into the locker. Her arm scraped against the edge of the door, burning with pain.
She did not even have time to turn around before the door behind her was forcefully shut.
In an instant, Ying Que’s vision went dark.
Weak light fell in through the grille at the top of the door, not enough to illuminate Ying Que’s sight.
“I told you I’d let you know the consequences.”
“Clatter, clatter.”
Fang Yiyi’s voice rang out from beyond the thin metal door. Standing high above, she ordered Number Two and Number Three to drag over a chain and roughly bind the door that had already been jammed with a wooden stick.
“Fang Yiyi, I’m warning you. If you don’t let me out, I’ll make sure you suffer for it!” Ying Que reacted, squeezed inside the locker where she could not even turn around, warning the people outside.
“My Eldest Miss Wu, please figure out your situation. Your whole family is dead. No one is going to back you up!”
“You were the one who insisted on being friends with us. You were the one who promised us. What, you think just because you don’t want to acknowledge it now, you can pretend it never happened? Keep dreaming!”
“Bang!”
Outside the door were gnashing revenge and mockery. Who knew who kicked the locker hard?
Then came the second kick. The third…
The enormous sound occupied Ying Que’s ears, refusing to stop for a long time.
It sounded like gunshots.
—“What are you doing? Let me out.”
—“Heehee, I won’t let you out. As long as you disappear, I’ll be the younger sister in this family. Sister Ying Xu will be my sister, Auntie Ying Ming will be my mother. You’ll be nothing. Just wait to die in here and be completely replaced by me.”
Darkness eroded Ying Que’s vision, painting her world black.
A little girl’s perverse laughter rang by her ear, as distant as a time long past, yet also pressed as close as this cramped space, impossible to escape.
That was a very old story, so old that everyone in the Ying family wanted to forget it, pack it away, and seal it in dust.
Unfortunately, someone had “fired a gun” and shot that box open.
Ying Ming had never imagined that the child she brought home would become a criminal who hurt her own daughter.
The Ying family possessed abundant material wealth and spiritual wealth. To a child who had lost her parents, both were temptations.
And so, disaster happened.
Five-year-old Ying Que had been locked in a narrow, cramped low cabinet for an entire night. It was not until the next morning, when dawn broke, that Ying Xu found her in the little house in the southeast corner of the garden, a place almost no one ever visited.
The poor child had cried until she was nearly dehydrated. Her elbows and calves had been scraped raw from trying to escape. Her high fever took two days to subside, and even in her dreams, she was being abandoned by her mother and turning into a skeleton no one would bury.
“…”
The clothes originally hanging in the locker squeezed against Ying Que’s breathing space. She had no way to face these emotions. Her hand slowly tightened, grabbing her arm and carving three savage bloody scratches into it.
She could not die here. That person who had truly replaced her—she had not dealt with her yet.
Sister…
Sis…
She could not just die here…
She… she had to get out. She had to get out of here!
She could not. She could not…
Countless “could nots” were like black moths, occupying Ying Que’s mind as if they wanted to smother her to death.
Ying Que stared in terror at the cramped scene before her that resembled her memory. But the light that happened to leak in was stripping away the black moths before her eyes.
“Hahahahaha, say something! Weren’t you so impressive just now?”
“Eldest Miss Wu, are you missing your mom inside the locker?”
“Aiya, her mom abandoned her long ago. Otherwise, why would she leave by herself and leave her here to suffer?”
“Hahaha, your mom doesn’t want you anymore!”
…
The triplets looked at the locker that had fallen silent, their imaginations running wild.
Their mockery was sharper than the sea wind. Along with the bang, bang sounds as they kept kicking the locker, it surged toward Ying Que like the tide.
How similar this was.
Mom… did not want her anymore.
…Ying Xu seemed not to want her anymore either.
“Wu Lan, Yiyi said that as long as you admit you were wrong, she’ll give you—”
“Bang!”
Shanshan, this walking microphone, had just approached the locker when the door that suddenly burst open slammed her straight to the ground.
How much explosive force could an Alpha have? With a strike of her elbow, she had forcibly knocked open the door bound by chains.
None of the three had expected that the once timid and useless Wu Lan would possess this kind of strength. In fact, there had been many times in the past when they had forgotten Wu Lan was also an Alpha.
However cautious those blue-purple eyes had once been, that was how violent and vicious they were at this moment.
There were many things inside the locker, including a utility knife.
When Ying Que fought her way out, she was clutching that thing tightly in her hand.
Triplet Number Two dodged quickly. Of course, that was also because she was not Ying Que’s target.
The instant Fang Yiyi wanted to drag someone over as a shield, Ying Que’s hand clamped down hard on her shoulder.
This time, it was her turn to know how much it hurt to be slammed into a wall.
And this fear was not yet enough to reach its peak. The utility knife used to shave rosin shone with sharp silver light, only one millimeter away from that beautiful, trembling eye.
“Queque!”
The startled cry was like the toll of a bell, carrying a trace of coolness as it slammed into Ying Que’s ears.
It was almost a subconscious movement for Ying Que.
Stop.
Come back to herself.
Turn her head.
“Plop.”
A drop of blood fell from the Alpha’s tense arm onto the ground, sharper than the cicadas’ cries.
The scorching sun cut across the summer teaching building like a dividing line. Ying Que saw that standing in the doorway were the emerald-like eyes she had once stared into beneath the bridge.
Wei Zhixu had come.
