I’m Definitely Taking This Scumbag Alpha Role! - Chapter 6
Ying Que’s “I do” was so loud it made one’s ears ache.
She was venting her dissatisfaction—at Wei Zhixu, and even more at Ying Xu, who was not here.
She had lived for twenty-two years with everything going smoothly. Under Ying Xu’s protection, she got wind when she wanted wind and rain when she wanted rain.
The words “being rejected” simply did not exist in her dictionary. As long as it was a person or thing she wanted, no matter whether they were willing to follow her at first, she would always obtain them in the end.
But of all days, today.
Of all things, ever since she became Wu Lan, the smooth-sailing life she had known for the past twenty-two years was gone.
And the person who had taken it away—or rather, made Ying Que realize this—was her own older sister.
“What’s so great about her? Isn’t she just the president of some lousy company? Who does she think she’s looking down on? Does she think every Alpha in the world wants to be her younger sister?”
Ying Que felt wronged, and as she spoke, tears were about to fall again.
But she held them back, stubbornly stopping her tears in front of Wei Zhixu.
At the very least, in front of the Omega she liked, she could not cry.
She had her dignity as an Alpha.
What Wei Zhixu had seen earlier did not count. That had purely been an accident.
“Because you may not know this, but Ying Xu loves her younger sister very much,” Wei Zhixu told Ying Que.
Ying Que did not think much of it and rejected this reason meant to comfort her. “How could I possibly not know?”
“Do you really know?” Wei Zhixu asked lightly in return.
The night was quiet and lonely. Everything was dim and listless, except for Wei Zhixu’s eyes.
As she asked this, she looked at Ying Que.
Those emerald-like eyes were prettier than the moon, and for some reason, this Alpha who had still been so self-righteous a moment ago suddenly lost her confidence.
“In the past, the Ying family also helped many orphans and even brought some home. But because something bad happened, and because that incident affected Ying Que, Ying Xu became especially guarded against the people around her afterward. For more than ten years after that, no other child stayed with the Ying family again. You and I count as exceptions.”
Wisps of hot steam wrapped around the clear scent of tea, bringing a bittersweet aftertaste to someone impulsive.
Wei Zhixu’s tone was even. When she recounted this past incident of the Ying family, there was not much emotion in it.
Yet precisely because of that, Ying Que, rarely, listened carefully.
“Ying Xu being guarded against you is a conditioned reflex born from her love for her younger sister. You triggered her warning system.” After pouring a cup of tea, Wei Zhixu unhurriedly withdrew her hand and gently placed the cup on the table.
Ying Que did not know whether Wei Zhixu saying these things to her counted as comfort. Wei Zhixu had not even empathized with her or cursed Ying Xu with her.
But Ying Que had to admit that she no longer wanted to cry as badly.
That was true. That incident had frightened their whole family terribly. For a very long time afterward, Ying Xu had even stayed with her twenty-four hours a day, never leaving her side.
Ying Que had no way to deny her older sister’s love for her.
But—
“…We were doing the same thing, so what right does she have to lecture me? She can’t tell right from wrong! She can’t distinguish black from white! She’s unworthy of being someone’s sister!”
Understanding was one thing, but Ying Que still felt wronged.
She turned the cup Wei Zhixu had just filled for her in her hand, stirring ripples across the calm surface of the tea.
“The angle changed,” Wei Zhixu told Ying Que.
“What angle?” Ying Que did not understand.
“People are three-dimensional. What you see from different angles will also be different,” Wei Zhixu explained.
Words like these clearly exceeded Ying Que’s understanding of the world. She was childish, having gone through very few hardships since childhood, and her eyes were filled with confusion. “I don’t get it.”
“You will.”
Even Ying Que herself had no confidence in this matter, yet Wei Zhixu’s tone carried a kind of certainty.
So Ying Que could not help thinking deeply. What exactly would she understand?
That the damned impostor had stolen her body, as well as her smooth-sailing life?
“What I hate most are fakes! Fake bags, fake watches, fake people! I hate them all!”
In the past, someone had always cleaned up Ying Que’s messes for her, and her temper had been raised to be ever-changing and unpredictable.
After only half a second of deep thought, her dried tears transformed into anger. She picked up the teacup and threw her head back, drinking it all in one go.
It was satisfying enough to vent her anger.
And crude enough too.
Wei Zhixu’s brows furrowed slightly, displeased. “Drinking like a cow.”
Tea needed to be savored carefully. Ying Ming had taught Ying Que that very early on.
It was etiquette, and it was also a moment that reflected a person’s upbringing.
Ying Que knew she was in the wrong, so she obediently placed the cup back on the table and did not talk back. “Sorry, Sister.”
Seeing this, Wei Zhixu poured Ying Que another cup of tea.
The fragrance of tea slowly brushed over Ying Que’s cheeks, and she heard Wei Zhixu say to her, “Queque, you and Ying Que look completely different.”
Behind the rising mist, the girl’s brows tightened, unconvinced. “How are we different?”
“Your face is too obedient. It isn’t suited to playing a villainess,” Wei Zhixu said lightly.
Hearing this, Ying Que felt Wei Zhixu’s occupational disease as a screenwriter acting up.
And Ying Que had been rebellious since childhood. The more others said she could not do something, the more unconvinced she became. “I insist.”
There was no “if” in her voice, only certainty.
Her nature was hard to change. Even if she had been forced to become Wu Lan, she was still the same as before. “Sister, don’t you think it’s very interesting when a seemingly innocent face hides a vicious heart behind it?”
Perhaps confidence was very hard to wear down in a person, and the temperament of youth was one of the rarest things in the world.
It was hard to imagine that this round face without any sharp edges could make such a flamboyant expression. Fortunately, there was still an unhealed blood scab at the corner of her eye. Although it had been inflicted by someone else, at this moment, it added a bit of delinquent waywardness to this Alpha.
At the corner of her eye, there was still one tear she had not wiped away, crystal clear, stubborn and perverse.
Wei Zhixu’s fingers, resting on the table, moved slightly, but in the end, she did not do anything.
Just now, this person had seemed like this too.
Crying while questioning her, without the slightest bit of imposing force.
Instead, it made her seem easy to bully.
The night wind blew quietly. Wei Zhixu was in no hurry to answer Ying Que, and Ying Que did not seem to want her answer either.
Before her sat the tea Wei Zhixu had refilled for her, a cup of tea she would drink properly no matter how sad or angry she was.
Compared with her cow-like gulping earlier, Ying Que was clearly much more sensible now.
She picked up the tea Wei Zhixu had given her and slowly savored it.
When the initial bitterness spread across Ying Que’s mouth, the sweetness that returned on the tip of her tongue seemed to carry a trace of the fragrance from Wei Zhixu’s hand.
She liked this taste.
She also did not feel so wronged and unwilling anymore, no longer on the verge of tears the moment she thought of what Ying Xu had done earlier.
Idiot Ying Xu. Idiot older sister. She had only changed her appearance, so how could Ying Xu not recognize her?
…So this was what Wei Zhixu meant by angle?
To Ying Xu right now, she was a stranger. And not only that, a stranger who behaved very much like her younger sister.
The fragrance of tea settled on Ying Que’s tongue, clear and sweet in its aftertaste. After calming down, she somewhat understood the principle Wei Zhixu had explained to her.
The blame could only fall on the foundation that had not been laid properly when they were children. To the Ying family, “very similar” was a “nightmare,” not “fate.”
How annoying.
After finishing the cup, Ying Que gave today’s events such a crude definition.
“Thank you for your hospitality, Sister.”
Ying Que rose to leave, knocking the Chinese roses until they swayed and leaned in all directions again.
Even though she had received Wei Zhixu’s comfort and Wei Zhixu’s clear tea, she was still angry inside, refusing to let herself go.
The figure went far away, and the flowers complained.
But Wei Zhixu paid it no mind.
The teacup had been moistened by tea, revealing a beautiful jade-like color.
A flamboyant red lipstick mark still remained on it. Wei Zhixu unhurriedly picked up the cup across from her, her fingertip slowly wiping along the rim.
“Indeed,” Wei Zhixu answered.
.
After the typhoon passed, the sky was clear for thousands of miles, as if it were a brand-new beginning.
After resting at home for one more day, Ying Que returned to school on Monday.
During that time, she had even crossed paths with Ying Xu at home, and Ying Xu had been fiercely brushed past by her.
Ying Xu did not react much, but Ying Que was furious.
Sure enough, only the person who cared would have their emotions affected.
What Ying Xu? She did not need Ying Xu.
If Ying Xu would not recognize her as her younger sister, then so be it. Did that mean she could not live without relying on Ying Xu?
Performing arts schools had no eight a.m. classes, because some classmates had already started filming in their freshman year, and there were no strict sign-in requirements either.
Wu Lan’s schedule showed only one body-shaping class in the morning. Ying Que was unusually proactive and arrived early.
After all, she had started taking roles in her sophomore year and had not entered a classroom in years. Since she was about to graduate in July, she felt somewhat nostalgic.
The body-shaping classroom was still the same as before. The air-conditioning was strong, and the leaves outside the floor-to-ceiling windows rustled. Bathed in the scorching sunlight outside, who knew if they envied the humans inside the room?
The body-shaping teacher had been in the classroom since early in the morning. Seeing a student push the door open so early, she was a little surprised.
And when she saw Ying Que enter her line of sight with Wu Lan’s face, the surprise in her eyes turned into relief.
“Xiao Lan, you’re back? Have the matters at home all been handled?” The body-shaping teacher kindly took Ying Que’s hand.
“Not yet,” Ying Que replied.
In truth, up until now, Ying Que still did not even know exactly how much debt Wu Lan owed. The teacher’s friendly question was more like a reminder, one that reminded her until her eyes went blank.
The teacher took that blankness as confusion. Anyone putting themselves in the role of an eighteen-year-old who had just experienced this would not be clear-headed. All she could do was encourage her. “Take it slowly. First, polish your acting. Once you get a good film, you won’t have to worry about not being able to pay the money back.”
“Mm.” Ying Que nodded.
She was truly glad that Wu Lan had chosen the entertainment industry. This place had plenty of examples of people becoming famous overnight and ascending to godhood.
In the future, as long as she carefully selected a few good scripts and filmed them properly, the money owed could always be made up.
That was why worldly ignorance and innocence could be the cruelest thing.
Only later would Ying Que know how very “why don’t they just eat meat porridge” her current plan was—how out of touch and naïve.
But later was later. The current Ying Que did not feel there was anything wrong with her plan at all.
She did not take the debt to heart whatsoever. She put down her bag and began warming up before class.
This body had decent flexibility. Ying Que could easily sink into a full split.
Ying Que thought that Wu Lan should have studied ballet. Her pointed toes were very professional, and the muscle memory driving her body was also relaxed and free.
In the past, during the gaps between stretching, Ying Que had been used to scrolling through her phone. She had not changed that bad habit now either.
She browsed Wu Lan’s Weibo out of boredom, wanting to find something to look at, and noticed that Wu Lan seemed to be following her.
—Because when she refreshed the following page, one of her own promotional Weibo posts popped up.
[Wrapped filming [party popper]. I’m honored to have been part of Xiao Qin’s life, and because of that, I got to meet so many wonderful people. Thank you very much to all the seniors in the crew for taking care of me and guiding me. I hope we’ll have more chances to work together in the future. @Director, @Screenwriter. [Nine-grid promotional photos.jpg]]
Ying Que looked at the image on the screen of herself holding the wrap bouquet, smiling like a blooming flower, and fire practically blazed from her eyes.
She had worked so hard, getting strung up on wires and soaking in cold water, filming for a whole month. And in the end, it had become something for that impostor to show off!
This really let that impostor taste something sweet. Not only did she get flowers, she even got cake. The moment the wrap Weibo post refreshed, there were tens of thousands of comments saying, “Baby worked hard.”
Those things were all supposed to be hers!
Ying Que clenched the phone so tightly it hurt, her fingers uncontrollably scrolling through the impostor’s comment section.
It seemed that because the caption she posted was more sincere than Ying Que’s usual direct “Wrapped filming” three words, many fans left comments below.
“Sister said so much today.”
“Is Sister in a really good mood?”
“Good news! Queque spoke fifty-nine characters today, more than all the words she said in the first half of the year combined!”
…
Among them were even some big fans Ying Que recognized very well.
And the impostor was shameless. She specially replied to the last comment and asked: [Then which version do you like? [domineering]]
Ying Que had always had the image of a flamboyant beauty. With a simple crook of her finger, the person who received the reply began screaming and typed more than a dozen exclamation marks: [I like the current Sister!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!]
Ying Que was furious. The veins on the hand gripping the screen bulged.
The poor phone could only cry for help through the constantly rising volume indicator on the left side. But in silent mode, no one heard its plea.
“Plop.”
Suddenly, a cold drop of water fell onto Ying Que’s head.
It was far too abrupt. This was not the drafty, leaky space beneath a bridge, so how could something like this drift over?
Only then did Ying Que come back to herself and notice that at some point, three shadows had appeared in front of her.
She raised her head and saw three “fake people” who looked as if they had come from the same plastic surgeon standing before her.
The one in the lead was slightly more refined, holding an exaggeratedly huge Stanley water cup and looking down at her from above. “Wu Lan, you look like you’re in pretty good shape. Did you come back today to fulfill your promise to us?”
