Chapter 27

A rainy night, Jiangcheng, 2:17 a.m.

Xie Queyou appeared at Song’an soaked from head to toe.

The security guard in the booth had long since recognized her. After glancing at her, she let her write down her name and then allowed her through.

However, she still asked worriedly, “Would you like an umbrella?”

Song’an’s facilities were very well-equipped. The security booth had all sorts of tools prepared, in case residents forgot something at any time, including umbrellas.

The security guard thought that Xie Queyou should count as half a resident too… right?

Xie Queyou raised her head to look at her, then lowered her head to look at her completely soaked clothes and shook her head.

“No need. Thank you.”

After saying that, she continued walking through the rain toward the building where Yun Wangqing lived.

Once she entered the elevator and watched the numbers slowly jump upward, Xie Queyou swallowed nervously.

Going up with her was a woman returning home after walking her golden retriever.

The golden retriever sat on the ground, panting happily. Its owner held the leash and kept sniffing the back of its neck.

“What’s that smell? Did you go step in puddles again? It stinks!”

Xie Queyou froze and hurriedly smelled her own clothes.

She had come in a rush. After negotiating with Xie Rong’an, she had rushed straight here. Now that she smelled herself, she really did smell some sandalwood clinging to her clothes.

The rain had soaked it into the fabric, locking it there. It would not disperse no matter what. Xie Queyou’s mood instantly became anxious and uneasy.

The golden retriever’s owner was still scaring the dog.

“How many times has Mommy told you? You can’t step in puddles, and you can’t touch messy things. If you keep doing this, Mommy will throw you away. Mommy won’t want you anymore and will make sure you never see Mommy again.”

“Did you hear me?”

The little golden retriever did not understand. The little golden retriever panted happily and rubbed against its owner coquettishly.

Xie Queyou’s world collapsed.

After the golden retriever and its owner left the elevator, Xie Queyou hurriedly unzipped her jacket and fanned it hard, wanting to blow away that hateful sandalwood.

But heaven did not follow her wishes. By the time she reached Yun Wangqing’s floor, that troublesome sandalwood still clung to her like a shadow.

Xie Queyou could only drag her feet out quickly, sighing nonstop.

Originally, she had wanted to come over drenched so Yun Wangqing might feel a little sorry for her. Who would have known that Xie Rong’an’s pheromones would follow her too?

She felt like a little dirty Alpha now.

She took off the outer jacket, leaving only the short-sleeved inner shirt underneath. Placing her hand on Yun Wangqing’s door, she looked at her clothes still dripping water and knocked.

Knock—knock—

She obediently lowered her hand and waited quietly.

There was no sound.

Xie Queyou’s expression visibly fell. Then she thought that it was so late; Yun Wangqing was probably asleep.

Should she wait outside until Yun Wangqing woke up, or just open the door and go in?

Trespassing was not good, right?

Xie Queyou stood there hesitating back and forth. Her longing for Yun Wangqing and guilt climbed up her spine and buried her.

After learning these things from Xie Rong’an, she blamed herself more and more. She wanted to apologize to Yun Wangqing. She wanted Yun Wangqing to forgive her for sulking before.

She wanted to beg her… not to like Xie Rong’an.

She stood in front of the door thinking for a long time. Then a gust of wind blew through the corridor, making her completely soaked body tremble violently, and she suddenly sneezed.

She still should not disturb Yun Wangqing.

Thinking this, Xie Queyou turned and prepared to leave. But just as she was waiting for the elevator, the door behind her suddenly made a click.

“Ah You?”

Yun Wangqing’s sleep was already light. It was raining and thundering at night, so she had been half-awake the whole time. Then she heard someone knocking. She thought it was an illusion, but when she checked the surveillance, it was actually someone she had not expected.

“Why are you here?”

The woman’s sleepy, soft voice came from behind her. Xie Queyou’s steps paused, and she stood in place with her back to Yun Wangqing.

The woman’s footsteps drew closer, along with the warm, rich fragrance on her body.

“Why are you soaked all over?” Yun Wangqing was chilled by the coldness coming from her body. Her consciousness gradually cleared, and her tone immediately became worried.

She grabbed that wrist that was cold to the bone and pulled her toward the house.

“Come in quickly. How did you get this cold?” She pulled Xie Queyou to the door while thinking she needed to boil her a bowl of ginger soup. But after entering the entryway, she found that she could no longer pull Xie Queyou’s wrist forward.

She turned back. The Alpha, taller than her, was standing at the door, looking down at the floor and hesitating, unwilling to come in.

Xie Queyou was soaked all over, her hair wet and stuck to her skin. She looked like a small beast abandoned on the street, extremely pitiful.

A certain part of Yun Wangqing’s heart suddenly caved in. She tightened her grip on Xie Queyou’s wrist and urged, “Aren’t you cold? Hurry and come in.”

Xie Queyou stared at her own shadow, her tone carrying obvious self-blame.

“I’m dirty. There’s someone else’s scent on me.”

Yun Wangqing froze. Sure enough, she smelled the faint sandalwood on her body. She immediately felt helpless, yet waves of warmth also rose in her heart.

She had not expected that even at a time like this, Xie Queyou was still worried because of something she had said before.

Should she say this Alpha was obedient, or stubborn?

But she could not possibly get angry at this obedient Alpha.

Yun Wangqing turned and approached her. Xie Queyou clearly took half a step back, obviously not wanting her to smell the scent on her body.

The corner of Yun Wangqing’s lips curved into a smile, her eyes seeming both amused and not. “If there’s a smell on you, you just need to change clothes. If you don’t move now, are you waiting for me to change you?”

Xie Queyou froze. The tips of her ears, hidden beneath her damp hair, turned red. Sure enough, she stopped hesitating and stepped into the slippers prepared for her.

Yun Wangqing nodded in satisfaction.

It was too late now, so asking someone to buy clothes was not realistic. Yun Wangqing could only go to the bedroom and get Xie Queyou a set of clothes she did not often wear.

She handed the clothes to her and pointed toward the bedroom. “Go take a shower quickly.”

Xie Queyou followed the direction of her finger and answered weakly, “I can go to the guest room.”

Yun Wangqing narrowed her eyes. “If you come to my house in the middle of the night, you have to listen to me. Otherwise, be careful or I’ll throw you out. Understand?”

Xie Queyou suddenly thought of what the golden retriever’s owner had said in the elevator, and it somehow overlapped with Yun Wangqing’s words.

It felt as if someone had gently stroked her back from top to bottom. She immediately did not dare resist anymore.

Holding the clothes, she obediently entered the bathroom in Yun Wangqing’s bedroom.

While showering, Xie Queyou’s sluggish brain was also awakened by the hot water. She immediately slapped her own head in shame inside the bathroom.

Running to someone else’s house this late and disturbing their sleep.

Xie Queyou, what are you doing?!

And this shame became even worse when she saw the clothes Yun Wangqing had prepared for her.

The underwear was disposable, but the sleep shirt and pants were not. When she brought them closer, she could even smell the faint cedar fragrance on them.

They were Yun Wangqing’s clothes. They smelled so good.

Xie Queyou carefully glanced around, then buried her entire head into the sleep shirt, rubbing and sniffing, messing up the hair she had just dried.

After putting the clothes on, she was wrapped in the lingering cedar scent. Xie Queyou felt as if she were being tightly embraced, and joy spread wildly through her heart.

When she finally put on the clothes, collected herself, and pushed open the door, Yun Wangqing was already sitting at the bedside, propping her cheek with one hand as she dozed lightly.

Hearing the sound, she raised her eyes. “You’re done washing.”

Xie Queyou’s heart full of joy turned into guilt. Her lowered hand clenched the corner of the sleep shirt. “I’m sorry for disturbing you so late.”

Yun Wangqing’s gaze slid over her body, carrying a bit of amusement. “You only know now that you disturbed me? It’s a little late.”

Looking at Xie Queyou’s movements, she laughed softly. “Let go of [bailiantales.com]my sleep shirt. It’s all wrinkled.”

As soon as Xie Queyou heard this, she hurriedly released her hand. Her hands hung awkwardly, not knowing where to go.

Seeing this, Yun Wangqing found tonight’s version of her especially cute and could not help wanting to tease her.

She reached out and crooked her finger at Xie Queyou.

“Come here.”

Xie Queyou obediently walked over, looking at her with a pair of clear eyes, as if whatever Yun Wangqing said next, the person before her would do it.

This thought put Yun Wangqing in a very good mood.

She twitched her nose and sniffed. This person was at least obedient enough to know to wash the scent off herself with body wash.

She narrowed her eyes in satisfaction and tapped her fingertip against the table beside her, motioning for Xie Queyou to look over.

“Drink the ginger soup.”

Only then did Xie Queyou notice that beside Yun Wangqing, there was also a bowl of steaming ginger soup.

Her eyes were blurred by the mist, and they suddenly reddened.

It was so late, yet Yun Wangqing had still boiled ginger soup for her and was even taking care of someone who had suddenly barged in. Yun Wangqing really was a very, very good person.

And I deliberately distanced myself from her before because of what happened earlier.

Noisy guilt drowned Xie Queyou. She stood in place, her eyes dampened by the mist.

Yun Wangqing frowned slightly. Seeing that she did not move, she could not help worrying.

This little Alpha couldn’t have had her brain damaged by the rain, could she?

She got up from the bed and wanted to touch Xie Queyou’s forehead, but the instant she rose, the person before her reached out with long arms and pulled her accurately into her embrace.

Xie Queyou used a lot of strength, but out of consideration for Yun Wangqing’s body, she eased her force after pulling her into her arms, locking her firmly in place and pressing tightly against her.

They were so close that their heartbeats were almost in sync. Only then did Xie Queyou bury her face in Yun Wangqing’s neck.

This was the first time she had violated the agreement and embraced Yun Wangqing.

“Can I hug you for a bit?” Her voice was very low, carrying an obvious plea.

Yun Wangqing was startled, and her tone softened too. “What’s wrong? You were fine at the banquet. Why are you suddenly like this?”

Why had this Alpha suddenly become so clingy?

She reached out and wrapped her arms around the Alpha, who was covered in the scent of her body wash. She stroked Xie Queyou’s back every now and then, her tone patient and gentle in a way even she herself did not realize.

“Has your rut arrived?”

Xie Queyou hugged her and shook her head. Maybe it had, but it did not matter now.

Smelling the faint cedar on the woman’s body, she let herself sink completely into Yun Wangqing’s embrace.

Yun Wangqing had no choice but to indulge her. Only after Xie Queyou finally loosened her embrace did she tap the table with her hand again.

“Drink the ginger soup. It’s about to get cold, understand?”

Xie Queyou also knew that her emotions had been too intense just now. She obediently took the ginger soup and tilted her head back to drink it all.

Yun Wangqing checked again to make sure she had truly finished it, then took out a thermometer to measure Xie Queyou’s temperature.

Xie Queyou said weakly, “I don’t have a fever. I’m really fine.”

Yun Wangqing furrowed her brows. “What did I just say?”

Xie Queyou stopped talking.

After measuring her temperature and confirming she did not have a fever, Yun Wangqing finally relaxed.

She turned around and looked at Xie Queyou standing behind her, staring at her with those slightly drooping eyes. Suddenly, she lost her temper.

She sat on the bed, looked at the person standing opposite her, and stretched out her foot, rubbing it against Xie Queyou’s calf.

The sensation traveled through the fabric to Xie Queyou’s skin, brushing against her. Xie Queyou’s whole body went numb, and heat ignited where she had been touched.

The roots of her ears uncontrollably turned red.

Seeing her ears, Yun Wangqing smiled faintly and tapped the table beside her, making Xie Queyou shift her attention back.

“Tell me. Why did you come here completely soaked this late at night?”
