After Signing a Marking Agreement with the Abstinent Omega - Chapter 3
Jiang City, by the sea — Gland Research Institute.
“You’re saying you were marked by an Alpha last night?” Lin Wumo pushed up the glasses on his nose, the lenses reflecting light.
“Yes.”
Yun Wangqing took out a specially made inhibitor patch from the drawer and applied it to the back of her neck. Even though half a day had passed, the faint lime scent still lingered on her body, following her like a shadow.
Just this tiny trace of lime fragrance had been disturbing her mind since morning.
When her fingertips touched that special patch of skin, a burst of heat flared up easily. Her movements paused for a moment. She bit her lip tightly and controlled her breathing.
Lin Wumo didn’t notice anything. She was still excited: “Your glands can actually be marked!”
She insisted on dragging Yun Wangqing into the examination room immediately.
The examination was completed quickly. Yun Wangqing was familiar with every step. The institute used the most advanced instruments available. In just over ten minutes, the results were out.
“Amazing.” Lin Wumo stared at the report, exclaiming in awe for the Nth time.
“Your pheromone stability actually increased by ten points. Did that Alpha really only mark you once?”
Normally, the stability value of AO pheromones was generally above 80. This was a crucial factor in maintaining stable sensitivity and heat cycles. The lower the stability value, the easier it was to trigger heat periods.
This was usually not a serious illness and could be slowly resolved with inhibitor injections.
But the problem with Yun Wangqing was that she suffered from pheromone rejection syndrome.
A normal Omega would enter heat upon contact with Alpha pheromones. However, someone with pheromone rejection syndrome would not only enter heat but would also experience severe glandular allergic reactions. In serious cases, it could lead to shock or even death.
Yun Wangqing’s condition was even worse. She rejected not only Alpha pheromones but also the inhibitors used as substitutes.
The Yun family spent millions every year researching new inhibitors just to find something she could use.
But now, her body had gradually begun rejecting even the new inhibitors.
This was almost unsolvable. The only solution was to find that one rare exception who could mark her.
Lin Wumo had thought that with odds of one in a million, Yun Wangqing would have to rely on the endless supply of new inhibitors funded by her family’s wealth for the rest of her life.
But now, that exception had appeared.
Previously, Yun Wangqing’s stability value had remained between 5% and 10%. At that level, the mere presence of an Alpha nearby would trigger her heat period — extremely dangerous.
Yet this nameless Alpha had raised her stability by 10 points with just one marking.
In Lin Wumo’s mind, the Alpha who marked Yun Wangqing had become a medical miracle. Her curiosity about that person grew stronger and stronger.
She had been with Yun Wangqing since she differentiated at eighteen. They had known each other for over ten years. Seeing a turning point in Yun Wangqing’s most severe condition, Lin Wumo was so excited she almost forgot she was at work.
“Who was it?” She leaned in, asking excitedly.
Yun Wangqing’s tone was calm. Compared to the excited Lin Wumo, she seemed like the bystander: “Someone from the Xie family.”
“Isn’t that the one your family arranged a marriage alliance with right after you returned? That’s perfect! There’s hope for your treatment!”
Yun Wangqing sat in the chair, still wearing the clothes she had left the hotel in. They were wrinkled and stained with rainwater, making her look somewhat disheveled, but it did nothing to diminish her beauty.
Instead, under the gloomy weather, her beauty appeared fragile and captivating. Lin Wumo stared at her in a momentary daze.
She shook her head vigorously: “Stop weaponizing your beauty. Hurry up.”
Yun Wangqing didn’t respond. She reached out to take the report back, her fingertips trembling slightly.
“It wasn’t her. I came to find you because I want you to help me remove the mark. The sooner, the better.”
“Of course, no problem. How long have we known each other… Wait! What did you say?”
Yun Wangqing’s expression remained unchanged. She repeated herself, as if saying it to convince herself: “Remove the mark. It was just an accident.”
Lin Wumo shot up from his chair: “Are you joking? You must be joking with me. How could you remove it? This is the only pheromone that can mark your glands!”
Yun Wangqing looked up and sighed: “I’m not joking. I still have things to do this afternoon. It’s best if we finish before noon.”
Lin Wumo’s expression darkened: “I won’t do it.”
Yun Wangqing frowned: “You’re a doctor…”
“Exactly because I’m a doctor, I can’t do it.” Lin Wumo got anxious and walked over directly.
“Do you not know how fragile your glands are? Other Omegas can have their marks washed off and repaired after a few times, but you? If you wash it once, you could lose your life. Do you understand?!”
Yun Wangqing’s eyelashes trembled slightly. Her tone turned firm: “You are the doctor the Yun family hired to treat me.”
Lin Wumo puffed out his cheeks, took off his white coat, and sat back down angrily with his arms crossed: “Then I’m not a doctor anymore. I won’t do it. Go find someone else if you want.”
“Anyway, the most authoritative gland specialist in the country is either me or my teacher. My teacher has retired. Let’s see who else you can find.”
Yun Wangqing frowned: “Lin Wumo.”
Lin Wumo knew that when Yun Wangqing called someone by their full name, she was truly getting angry.
He furrowed his brows tightly and stared at her for a long time before finally letting out a deep sigh.
“You’re really stubborn. Once you’ve made a decision, no one can change it.”
He typed on the keyboard and printed out a list.
“First, complete all these examinations. I’ll prepare the equipment. Removing the mark requires three consecutive injections of the removal solution. If you can’t even handle the first one, don’t mention this to me again.”
Yun Wangqing was no stranger to lying on the cold operating table. Everything was the same. The cold lights were still blinding.
Accompanied by the mechanical humming, in her daze, she seemed to smell that calming lime fragrance again.
But no matter how comforting it was, it ultimately wasn’t hers.
Yun Wangqing closed her eyes, waiting for the lime scent to be completely stripped from her body.
The humming sound in her ears grew closer and closer, until…
“Ah!”
A heart-piercing pain spread from her gland throughout her entire body. Yun Wangqing instantly collapsed weakly onto the operating table, drenched in cold sweat.
Lin Wumo quickly moved the instrument away and applied the prepared emergency medicine to her gland.
“I used the lowest setting and the smallest needle tip. If your glands can’t even handle this, how are you supposed to remove the mark?”
Yun Wangqing’s face was deathly pale. Her whole body trembled violently. The pain still lingered inside her, refusing to dissipate.
She couldn’t speak a single word. Only the sound of her heavy breathing filled the operating room.
Lin Wumo gave her painkillers and waited a while before helping her up.
“I didn’t expect your glands to have become so fragile that you can’t even take any inhibitors. If your next heat period comes and we still haven’t found a solution, I don’t know what to do either.”
Lin Wumo put on a serious face: “Why exactly do you want to remove the mark? Is there a problem with that Alpha? Or does she already have a partner?”
Yun Wangqing’s face was pale. She breathed lightly, her body still weak from the unrelieved pain.
She shook her head, her voice as soft as a mosquito’s buzz: “It’s my problem.”
She could not tolerate any pheromone scent on her body — to the point of near obsession.
—
In the end, the meal could not be finished peacefully. Xie Rong’an’s words were far too arrogant and belittling, making Xie Queyou extremely uncomfortable.
Even though she knew she shouldn’t provoke the protagonist, she still couldn’t help talking back to Xie Rong’an a few times.
In the original plot, the original owner was the true daughter of the Xie family who had been lost outside. She had only been brought back in recent years. The only connection she had with the Xie family was their shared bloodline.
Xie Rong’an had never liked her since she returned. In Xie Rong’an’s own words:
Xie Queyou, a rude and uncultured ordinary person, had suddenly become her sister and wanted to compete with her for control of the Xie family. She looked down on her and didn’t even want to spare her a glance.
After staying in the Xie family for two days, sleeping in the original owner’s bedroom for one, Xie Queyou was woken early the next morning by the housekeeper knocking on her door and was forced to move to a room in the side villa.
Fortunately, the original owner had rarely stayed at home before, so there weren’t many things to move.
During these idle days, while sorting out the plot and thinking about future strategies, Xie Queyou kept thinking of that cold cedar fragrance for some reason.
During short naps or when she was spacing out, it would suddenly appear in her mind.
As if possessed, Xie Queyou went back to that hotel, hoping to try her luck — at least to apologize to that lady again.
In the past two days, she had supplemented her knowledge and learned that an Omega was very fragile after having a mark removed and ideally needed an Alpha by their side for company.
The more Xie Queyou thought about it, the heavier her guilt became.
She stood outside the hotel for a long time. Even after the sky, which had just cleared up, started raining again, she still didn’t see that familiar white figure.
Her heart felt empty. She had no choice but to accept that this was their first and last meeting.
One absurd night, mutual consent, no contact information, and no names.
They really wouldn’t have any more intersections.
On the way back to the Xie family by car, as soon as she entered the gate, Xie Queyou saw the courtyard bustling with activity. All the servants were out decorating.
Xie Queyou stopped a maid who was hanging lights: “Aunt Li, what’s going on?”
The woman called Aunt Li smiled brightly: “Second Miss, you didn’t know? Tonight, the Eldest Miss’s Omega who was betrothed to her since childhood is coming to the family banquet. Madam specially asked us to decorate properly.”
A thought flashed in Xie Queyou’s mind: “Is it the Yun family? Is the Omega getting engaged called…”
“Yun Wangqing.” Before she could finish, a cold voice came from behind her.
Xie Queyou turned around and saw Xie Rong’an had appeared behind her at some point.
“Didn’t I say not to come to the front courtyard if you have nothing to do?” Xie Rong’an waved for Aunt Li to continue working. She was wearing a proper women’s suit, as if she had just returned from work. Xie Queyou caught a faint, cloyingly sweet pheromone scent.
It wasn’t the peach scent she had smelled yesterday.
Her nose was sensitive, so it felt uncomfortable. She quietly moved a little further away from Xie Rong’an.
Xie Rong’an didn’t pay her any attention. She didn’t have time to focus on this sister of hers and simply said:
“While it’s still not evening and the Yun family hasn’t arrived yet, go back to the rear residence.”
“Yun Wangqing just returned from abroad. She has a delicate constitution. You haven’t learned proper social etiquette and came from that kind of background. If you offend her and the Yun family finds out the Xie family has someone like you, it will bring shame to the Xie family.”
Xie Queyou smiled fakely: “Don’t worry, Sister. I’ll go back after the banquet.”
She had no intention of missing this plot point.
Tonight was a major plot event. If Xie Queyou didn’t carefully observe her new “sister-in-law,” how could she avoid her properly in the future?
Xie Rong’an looked her outfit up and down, frowned, and showed a rather pitying look. She casually called a maid over: “Take the Second Miss to change into something more appropriate.”
Xie Queyou looked down at her loose T-shirt and trousers, which she thought were perfectly fine.
She was still dragged by the maid to the Xie family’s wardrobe, where she was made to wear a water-blue diamond-encrusted evening dress. After spending over an hour on hair and makeup, she was finally seated at the dining table in the front hall.
At the table, only Xie Wanyue was present. Seeing Xie Queyou sit down, she spoke:
“Tonight, the Yun family’s daughter, Yun Wangqing, will be coming. Your sister should have told you.”
Xie Queyou nodded: “She did.”
Xie Wanyue: “The Yun family’s daughter has been working abroad. She only recently returned. Tonight is our families’ first official meeting. Don’t say anything inappropriate and make them think we’re rude.”
Xie Queyou felt helpless inside but could only nod.
Just then, footsteps came from outside the door. Xie Wanyue said:
“They’re here.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the servants opened the main door. Under the outdoor lights, two figures appeared.
One sharp, one gentle.
In the two days since she had transmigrated, Xie Queyou had not paid attention to the original plot nor searched for Yun Wangqing’s appearance. This meeting was her first time seeing her.
This woman who held her life and death in her hands.
For some reason, her heart was beating violently, with a faint sense of unease.
Until a faint cedar scent drifted over from a distance and landed on the tip of her nose. She froze, then looked up at the woman who had stepped out from the backlight.
A pure white evening dress made her skin look even fairer, like snow. Her brows and eyes, as cold as the pheromone on her body, overlapped with the slightly reddened, hazy corners of her eyes from that night.
Their gazes met. Xie Queyou stood frozen in place.
