After Becoming an Alpha, I Became a Charmer (GL) - Chapter 27.1
The first thing Xia Zhiyu did when she arrived at the company was to draft an announcement about the incident at the resort and send it via internal company email to everyone’s work mailbox.
Not only the head office but employees at the branch companies also received this email.
Zhao Sheng immediately read the email and sent a WeChat message to Yu Chou.
ZhaoSheng: How’s your investigation into Xia Zhiyu coming along?
They had to be extremely cautious and could not afford the slightest mistake.
YuChou: I’ll have news for you the day after tomorrow.
YuChou: Should we have Ke Miao invite her out to hang out first?
ZhaoSheng: No. Contacting her immediately after the email would make our intentions too obvious. Xia Zhiyu probably doesn’t have the audacity to sell Ms. Ruan’s information directly to us. Let’s treat her as a necessary pawn for now. We’ll take it slow.
Xia Zhiyu realized that the concerns she had this morning in the underground parking lot were completely irrelevant to Ruan Wu.
To Ruan Wu, any problem that could be solved with money was not a problem.
Before noon, Ruan Wu had a coded lock installed on the outside of the CEO’s exclusive elevator door on every floor. Standing outside the door, you couldn’t tell which floor the elevator had stopped on.
Xia Zhiyu was naturally full of praise and astonishment. Ruan Wu was the most perfect being in her eyes now. Everything she did made Xia Zhiyu praise her non-stop.
Although Ruan Wu was pleased to hear the compliments, Xia Zhiyu’s constant praise was beginning to affect her work efficiency. Ruan Wu had to put a stop to it.
It was lunch break. Xia Zhiyu went to the CEO’s office as usual to ask Ruan Wu what she wanted to eat. “I heard the company cafeteria has new dishes. I plan to try them. If they’re good, should I bring you the new dishes?”
Ruan Wu’s attention wasn’t on the meal. She contemplated for a moment and suddenly asked, “Are there many people eating in the cafeteria at this time?”
“Quite a lot, but our company cafeteria is huge. It won’t take too long to buy the food.”
Ruan Wu looked up at her. “Secretary Xia, buying the food itself won’t take much time, but the announcement that you taught those two perverts, Zhou Chong and Xie Li, a lesson at the resort and sent them to the police was sent out this morning. The entire company knows now. You will surely be surrounded by people in the cafeteria, making it impossible to move, and that will delay things much longer than just buying food. I’m a bit hungry today. Just buy your own meal and come eat with me.”
Although Ruan Wu’s words were a little exaggerated, they were not without merit. Xia Zhiyu nodded. “Okay, Ms. Ruan. I’ll hurry and come back quickly, trying not to make you wait too long.”
However, Ruan Wu still underestimated Xia Zhiyu’s charm.
From the moment she got into the elevator, everyone who saw her smiled and came over to greet her, immediately causing the elevator to exceed the weight limit. Xia Zhiyu voluntarily stepped out. “I won’t delay your lunch. You all go first.”
This made the other employees who wanted to follow her out embarrassed to leave the elevator with her.
After a few instances of this, Xia Zhiyu realized that more people were taking this elevator than usual. Thinking of Ruan Wu, who said she was hungry, Xia Zhiyu decided not to step out this time.
The elevator opened. She walked to the back, and the elevator immediately sounded the overload alarm again. Fortunately, the people outside only wanted to join the excitement and see Xia Zhiyu up close. Seeing the alarm sound, they hesitated for a moment and then voluntarily walked away.
“Secretary Xia, we aren’t scaring you, are we?” A petite Omega next to her asked with embarrassment.
“Not scared, but why are you all using this elevator?”
She had checked the group chat in between, and no one had given any warning.
The petite Omega exchanged a look with the person next to her and blushed. “We can’t tell you that, Secretary Xia. Just take it as a coincidence.”
The fact that they have a separate group chat dedicated to complaining about ‘that fish’ is something they absolutely cannot let Xia Zhiyu know.
Even without their explanation, Xia Zhiyu could guess part of the truth from the uncomfortable expressions of the people in the elevator.
The elevator reached the top floor, and everyone exited in an orderly fashion. Xia Zhiyu noticed that the cafeteria had almost twice the usual number of people.
“Secretary Xia, you’re eating early today?”
Xia Zhiyu: “Yes. You’re quite early too.”
“Secretary Xia, your work must be tiring.”
Xia Zhiyu: “Everyone is working hard.”
“Secretary Xia, the new dishes today are very delicious. You must try them.”
Xia Zhiyu’s eyes lit up. “Really? Thank you.”
Her joy was so obvious that everyone found her a little cute. They gathered to whisper to each other: “Oh my gosh, Secretary Xia really loves food!”
“Smiling Secretary Xia is so cute! Ahhh, I really want to pat her head.”
“Got it! Now we know how to chat with Secretary Xia to get a reply.”
In fact, most people were not bold enough to stick by Xia Zhiyu and talk to her. Most people gathered in small groups, secretly observing her from a distance.
Everyone knew Xia Zhiyu wanted to try the new dishes and deliberately cleared a path for her toward the food window.
Xia Zhiyu smiled at everyone to express her thanks. Her bright smile and star-like eyes lifted everyone’s spirits, and they all smiled back.
The company cafeteria was filled with cheer. Xia Zhiyu walked to the new dish counter and was faced with a look of surprise and suspicion on the face of the cafeteria auntie who had disliked her before.
Xia Zhiyu said, “Auntie, one serving of each of the three new dishes, and one serving each of these two old dishes, please.”
The cafeteria auntie didn’t move. Xia Zhiyu had to call her again. “Auntie?”
The cafeteria auntie snapped out of it. “How did you suddenly become so popular? Did you drug all of them?”
Xia Zhiyu chuckled. “It’s probably because I ‘turned over a new leaf’.”
The cafeteria auntie scoffed, clearly unconvinced. Xia Zhiyu didn’t mind and repeated her order. She swiped her meal card under the auntie’s disdainful gaze and left the company cafeteria with her packaged meal.
The employees queuing behind the counter couldn’t help but defend Xia Zhiyu. “Auntie, she really has changed.”
The cafeteria auntie simply said, “I’ll believe it when she keeps it up for a lifetime.”
Everyone watched in alarm as Xia Zhiyu didn’t eat in the cafeteria but hurried toward the elevator with her takeout box, thinking their overenthusiasm had scared Xia Zhiyu away.
In reality, Xia Zhiyu realized that twelve minutes had passed since she left the CEO’s office. She was afraid Ruan Wu would be impatient waiting, so she rushed back.
The employees of the company didn’t know this was related to Ruan Wu. Some even messaged Xia Zhiyu in the group chat to apologize, saying they would try to control themselves if Xia Zhiyu felt bothered.
Xia Zhiyu returned to the CEO’s office, placed the meal on the coffee table, and said to Ruan Wu, who seemed to be working but was actually monitoring the group chat with her alternate account, “Ms. Ruan, you were right. Everyone was too enthusiastic. I spent a lot of time by the elevator, but everyone was very considerate afterward. They helped me with directions and cleared the way. Our colleagues are really nice.”
Ruan Wu put down her phone, walked over, and sat down. “The people in the company are naturally good, but today’s incident won’t be a one-time thing. Everyone has different personalities. If you don’t want to be lined up and confessed to every day, you’d better not go to the cafeteria to buy food yourself anymore.”
“Then who should go?”
“I’ll go with you.”
“You’ll go to the cafeteria, Ms. Ruan?”
Ruan Wu gave her a faint side-eye. “Inseparable. I was too busy working just now and forgot to remind you. This is the only exception. From now on, you cannot leave my sight, no matter where you go.”
Xia Zhiyu said, “I didn’t think that far. Zhao Sheng and the others haven’t contacted me, so we should be safe for now.”
Seeing Ruan Wu’s face turn slightly cold, Xia Zhiyu quickly added, “I promise I absolutely won’t do it again.”
“Mhm. Let’s eat.”
Xia Zhiyu opened the takeout containers, and the two sat across from each other to eat.
Xia Zhiyu ate the three new dishes with great anticipation. However, when the food touched her tongue, it was somehow not as amazing as she had imagined. She tried the two dishes she usually liked and found them mediocre as well.
Xia Zhiyu couldn’t help but miss the egg noodles she had this morning. “Ms. Ruan, your cooking is so good that everything I eat now tastes bland.”
“Is it that exaggerated?” Ruan Wu raised an eyebrow.
“Yes, it’s that exaggerated. I’ll probably dream about you every day from now on.” How can I get another chance to eat Ruan Wu’s homemade food?
Ruan Wu thought: Xia Zhiyu’s subtle confessions are getting smoother and smoother.
“My friends are coming over for a gathering this Saturday. You should join us,” Ruan Wu said, taking the opportunity to extend an invitation.
“You’ll be cooking yourself, Ms. Ruan?!” Xia Zhiyu was delighted.
“Or would you cook?”
Xia Zhiyu was so happy that she wanted to hug and kiss Ruan Wu. “I love you so much, Ms. Ruan! Ahhh!”
Ruan Wu’s lips curved slightly, but she quickly masked it.
“Everyone in the company loves me,” Ruan Wu said, patching up the situation because she didn’t want to reject Xia Zhiyu’s feelings outright and hurt her.
Xia Zhiyu immediately caught on. “Right. I’m also one of the company employees.”
Because of the Saturday invitation, the smile on Xia Zhiyu’s face didn’t fade afterward. She was incredibly excited.
At 3 p.m., Xia Zhiyu returned to the CEO’s office after attending a department meeting with Ruan Wu, finding Minister Li already waiting outside the CEO’s office door. Minister Li was pacing back and forth, clearly anxious, so much so that he didn’t even hear Xia Zhiyu and Ruan Wu approaching.
“Minister Li,” Xia Zhiyu called out to remind him.
Minister Li “whooshed” his head up, meeting Ruan Wu’s gaze. His legs almost gave out. “Ms. Ruan… Secretary Xia.”
Ruan Wu smiled faintly, her attitude gentle. “Have you been waiting long, Minister Li?”
“No, no. I just arrived five minutes ago.”
