After Becoming an Alpha, I Became a Charmer (GL) - Chapter 30.1
Song Yourui and the others: “???”
“No, Ruan Ruan, are you misunderstanding something? Xia Xia said the person she has a crush on is already taken, so they can’t be together.”
Ruan Wu said, “Yes, and my heart only belongs to work. I don’t plan to date. Everyone knows that.”
Song Yourui felt Ruan Wu must be misunderstanding something. If Xia Zhiyu really liked her, they would be a mutually loving couple. Why would they need the three of them to analyze and pass messages back and forth?
“Ruan Ruan, you said Zhiyu has a crush on you. If that’s true, why don’t you two just talk about it and get together?” Jing Yan asked.
Ruan Wu sighed. “That’s why we can’t talk about it. I told you, my feeling for Xia Zhiyu isn’t romantic love, as you imagine, but the same friendship I have for you. If I talk about it with her, how can we continue to get along?”
Song Yourui said, “But you treat her differently from us.”
“It’s the same,” Ruan Wu insisted.
The four of them talked back and forth, only getting more confused. It was only when Xia Zhiyu finished cleaning and came out of the kitchen that the endless debate was put on hold.
The four immediately fell silent when they heard footsteps.
Xia Zhiyu thought they were just talking about private matters that she shouldn’t hear. She walked over smiling, without asking why they suddenly became quiet.
“Ruan Ruan, what are we doing for the rest of the time?” Xia Zhiyu asked.
It was only 10:30 a.m. after they finished eating. Song Yourui and the others were staying until the evening, so they couldn’t just chat for the rest of the time.
“You’re not at the company, so stop calling her Ms. Ruan. We’re all friends. You should call her by her first name, just like us,” Pang Jingyi said.
Didn’t Ruan Wu say she only considers Xia Zhiyu a friend? That was perfect. They wouldn’t need to persuade Ruan Wu anymore. They could just let them interact as friends.
Xia Zhiyu immediately looked at Ruan Wu. Song Yourui and the others also stared intensely at her.
Ruan Wu: “…You can.”
Xia Zhiyu was surprised. “Are you serious?”
Ruan Wu couldn’t help but glare at her. “What do you think?” How many times does she need to ask? The others have already brought it up. How can I possibly refuse?
Xia Zhiyu didn’t seem afraid of the cold look. Her eyes crinkled in a smile. Propping her chin on her hand, she gently parted her red lips and softly called out, “Ruan Ruan.”
Ruan Wu’s heart unexpectedly fluttered. Her cheeks instantly flushed. She accidentally met the knowing glances of Song Yourui and the others and thought: They clearly don’t believe what I said.
It’s just that my ears are sensitive, and Xia Zhiyu’s voice is too pleasant to the ear. That’s why I’m blushing. It’s not romantic love, as they think.
My heart is only for work. I will never date in this lifetime.
Xia Zhiyu was momentarily stunned by the sudden blush on Ruan Wu’s face. Her heart skipped a beat.
Even though Song Yourui and the others were still present, Xia Zhiyu inexplicably only wanted to look at Ruan Wu.
“Ruan Ruan, I called you. Why didn’t you answer?” Xia Zhiyu pinched her palm. The stinging pain brought her out of the ambiguous state.
Ruan Wu’s eyelashes fluttered. She lowered her gaze and said faintly, “Mhm.” Only her flushed cheeks betrayed her inner turmoil. Her pretense was completely exposed in front of everyone.
Song Yourui, Jing Yan, Pang Jingyi: “…” She was only called by her name, and her face is so flushed. And she still claims her feelings for Xia Zhiyu are only friendship?
We’ve been calling her ‘Ruan Ruan’ for years, and we’ve never seen her blush once.
If she insists on deceiving herself, no one can help her. She’ll only realize the truth herself later.
However, the three of them were still doubtful about Ruan Wu’s claim that Xia Zhiyu’s crush was her.
It seemed more like a form of self-suggestion for Ruan Wu. She thinks Xia Zhiyu has a crush on her, yet she insists her feelings for Xia Zhiyu are only friendship. She’s a smart person, so why is she so blind when it comes to love?
“How about we go shopping? It’s getting hotter, and we should buy some summer clothes,” Jing Yan suggested.
“After shopping, we can have lunch out. Then we’ll choose two activities out of watching a movie, an amusement park, an aquarium, or a polar park. We’ll go home and have a barbecue on the balcony, eating and watching the stars and moon. We’ll go home when it’s getting late,” Song Yourui said.
The places Omegas could visit were limited. Places like nightclubs were prohibited for Omegas for safety reasons, to prevent Alphas from losing control after drinking or Omegas entering heat, which could lead to violent fights among Alphas competing for mating rights, causing casualties.
Because they were going out, the two Beta bodyguards were temporarily working overtime to escort the four Omegas and one Alpha.
Ruan Wu’s status was exceptional, so the place they went shopping was not an ordinary mall but a high-end mall that required a membership card based on one’s personal wealth.
“Everything inside is expensive, but you need personal assets of 50 million to get a membership card. The three of us always have to use Ruan Ruan’s membership card to go shopping,” Song Yourui said.
Xia Zhiyu nodded, smiling. “Ruan Ruan is amazing.”
Ruan Wu: “…If you have nothing to say, don’t speak. Don’t take advantage of the situation to call me by my name.”
“Okay, Ruan Ruan.”
Ruan Wu: “…”
Song Yourui and the others secretly exchanged glances. Why did Ruan Wu’s guess suddenly feel correct? Why does Xia Zhiyu like teasing Ruan Wu so much?
Let’s observe a little longer.
“By the way, Xia Xia, why did you change your clothes? The one you were wearing earlier was stunning,” Pang Jingyi asked curiously.
Xia Zhiyu said, “Because Ruan Ruan gave me that dress, and Ruan Ruan won’t allow me to wear that dress for others to see.”
Song Yourui and the others immediately looked at Ruan Wu. Such strong possessiveness—is that normal in a friendship? We wish our friends would wear the clothes we bought for them all the time.
Ruan Wu had anticipated their suspicion when Xia Zhiyu changed clothes. Fortunately, she had a legitimate reason. “It’s not that I want to restrict her. It’s because wearing something too beautiful easily causes trouble. She was once followed by two Alphas who intended to harm her.”
“What?!” Pang Jingyi immediately asked. “What happened? Are you okay? Those two Alphas are completely insane.”
Xia Zhiyu said, “I’m fine. I kicked both of them away. It’s just that the aftermath was troublesome, and the two men had connections.”
“Then listening to Ruan Ruan is the right thing to do. You must never wear anything too beautiful when you’re out. Perverts are everywhere. It’s not just Alphas who are dangerous. You can’t underestimate Betas and Omegas either. Betas can drug you. Omegas can intentionally use pheromones to seduce you during their heat cycle. If you can’t control yourself, the police won’t convict the other party afterward. After all, you’re an Alpha. You’ll be seen as the one who took advantage.”
Xia Zhiyu knew her own fighting ability and was confident that she would be inseparable from Ruan Wu in the future. With Ruan Wu around, they could protect each other, and the situation Song Yourui described wouldn’t happen. Therefore, she just nodded with a smile.
Ruan Wu, on the other hand, frowned unhappily, her face like frost, and her eyes cold, as if radiating killing intent. Even though they were discussing Xia Zhiyu’s safety, Ruan Wu looked angrier than Xia Zhiyu.
Jing Yan, sitting next to Ruan Wu, quickly explained, “We were just using an example. This is a society governed by law now. That kind of thing won’t happen.”
Pang Jingyi said, “Xia Xia has high fighting ability. No one can touch her.”
“As long as she doesn’t wear anything too beautiful and doesn’t go out late at night, she’ll be fine.” When Ruan Wu’s expression still didn’t soften after Song Yourui spoke, Song Yourui quickly winked at Xia Zhiyu.
Xia Zhiyu took Ruan Wu’s hand, startled by the coldness of her palm. She hadn’t realized Ruan Wu cared about her as a friend so much that a hypothetical situation could make her this angry.
Xia Zhiyu said gently, “Ruan Ruan, did you forget what you told me? We’re inseparable, and we have Zhao Ze and Zhang Yu with us. We won’t run into any dangerous situations.”
Ruan Wu felt the warmth in her palm. She looked up and saw the concern in Xia Zhiyu’s eyes, and her gaze softened. “I’m fine.”
Song Yourui and the others: “…”
Inseparable? What is this inseparable thing again? They’re arguing and making up like a couple. How can this still be called friendship?
At the mall, the group first went shopping for clothes. Song Yourui and the others needed to buy clothes for themselves, their husbands, or their boyfriends and girlfriends. Everyone had different styles in mind, so they decided to split up.
Pang Jingyi said, “Ruan Ruan, let’s go to Baisi Ting together. Your style is quite similar to my girlfriend’s.”
Ruan Wu, however, said, “I’ve already pre-ordered next season’s clothes. I don’t need to buy anything else. Xia Zhiyu needs to buy a few outfits since she has so few clothes, and she likes Jing Yan’s style.”
Xia Zhiyu had recently earned a bit of money from her part-time jobs, so she didn’t refuse when Ruan Wu offered to accompany her shopping.
“Jingyi, Ruan Ruan and I will go find Jing Yan first. You can join us after you’re done shopping.”
Pang Jingyi: “…” Before, Ruan Wu always shopped with me when the four of us went out, and she was great at picking out outfits for my girlfriend. Everything changed because of Xia Zhiyu!
Pang Jingyi chose to observe Ruan Wu and Xia Zhiyu up close over buying clothes for his girlfriend. He immediately followed them. “I suddenly remembered that my girlfriend wants to change her style, but she hasn’t decided which one yet. I’ll shop with you two first for inspiration.”
Pang Jingyi didn’t want to make it too obvious. After they entered a store, he quickly went to find Jing Yan and Song Yourui, sharing the conversation he had just had with Ruan Wu. Song Yourui and Jing Yan immediately gave up on shopping. The three of them openly walked up to Ruan Wu and Xia Zhiyu and listened to the sales assistant’s presentation with them.
After the sales assistant finished, Ruan Wu nodded. “This one, this one, and the third one from the end. Bring size L for her to try on.”
“Okay, please follow me, Miss.”
Xia Zhiyu followed the sales assistant to try on clothes. Ruan Wu was about to follow when she saw Song Yourui and the others walking close to her. She asked in surprise, “Aren’t you three shopping anymore?”
“We suddenly realized it’s too early to buy summer clothes. We’ll come back next month with you,” Song Yourui said.
“Exactly,” Jing Yan added. “And you only know if clothes suit you once you try them on. So, I think next time, we should organize a couple’s outing and bring our partners along.”
Ruan Wu: “And Xia Zhiyu and I will just be responsible for eating dog food?”
“You and Zhiyu can form a fake couple temporarily! It’s a great opportunity to experience what dating feels like.”
Song Yourui whispered, “Didn’t you say Zhiyu has a crush on you? She’s by your side every day, loving you silently but unable to have you. She’s constantly in pain. If you pretend to be a couple, it gives her a chance to realize her dream and relieves your guilt. Why not?”
Ruan Wu was actually tempted.
“I’ll think about it. I need to get Xia Zhiyu’s opinion on this.” Maybe getting something briefly and losing it is more painful than never having it at all.
Xia Zhiyu came out after trying on the first outfit. Before looking in the mirror, she walked over to Ruan Wu for her opinion. “Ruan Ruan, what do you think?”
Ruan Wu looked at her, carefully assessing her. “It’s good.”
Xia Zhiyu then turned to look in the mirror, nodding. “It does look good. I’ll take this one.”
Song Yourui, Jing Yan, and Pang Jingyi, completely ignored: “…”
