After Becoming an Alpha, I Became a Charmer (GL) - Chapter 29.1
It was Friday, the day before Saturday. Xia Zhiyu was completely immersed in the joy of being able to eat Ruan Wu’s homemade food the next day, but just before the end of the workday, an unexpected guest arrived at the company.
“Secretary Xia.” Ruan Wu called out Xia Zhiyu’s name immediately after taking an internal call from the front desk. Xia Zhiyu immediately walked over. “Ms. Ruan,” she replied, waiting for Ruan Wu to give her instructions.
Ruan Wu saw her smiling face, and the words she was about to say were immediately swallowed. “Xie Wuyu’s daughter, Xie Rongrong, is here. You come with me to greet her.”
Ruan Wu had originally intended to send Xia Zhiyu alone to pick up the guest, but she suddenly remembered how Xie Rongrong’s gaze had lingered on Xia Zhiyu’s face last time, and she changed her mind.
If Xia Zhiyu met Xie Rongrong alone, Ruan Wu wouldn’t be able to control what happened. With Ruan Wu present, she could at least try to curb Xia Zhiyu from carelessly spreading her charm and divert some of Xie Rongrong’s attention.
The two, accompanied by bodyguards, took the elevator downstairs. The young girl in the pink princess dress waiting at the front desk’s eyes lit up when she saw Ruan Wu. She immediately ran over to Ruan Wu. “Sister Ruan Wu, you actually set aside your work to greet me personally. I’m so happy!”
Ruan Wu smiled. “It’s almost time to clock out anyway. I’m not busy. Next time you come to the company, let me know in advance, and I’ll specifically set aside time to host you.”
Xie Rongrong’s small face was flushed with excitement. She stayed close to Ruan Wu, saying shyly, “My dad completely disagrees with me interning at the company. He said I don’t understand anything and would only cause trouble. I argued with him and ran out, not knowing where to go, but then I suddenly remembered you said you welcomed me to visit the company, Sister Ruan Wu. I came over on impulse, without checking if you were busy.”
“It’s fine,” Ruan Wu said, smiling gently at Xie Rongrong. “Uncle Xie doesn’t want you to join the company because he’s afraid you’ll get tired. As long as you prove to him that you’re not afraid of hard work and can even do better than an Alpha, I believe Uncle Xie will eventually understand.”
“That’s not it at all,” Xie Rongrong pouted. “He just simply looks down on Omegas. Even if you’re as capable as you are, Sister Ruan Wu, he still won’t admit that Omegas are better than Alphas. He’s such a dinosaur!”
Ruan Wu and Xia Zhiyu took Xie Rongrong on a tour of the various departments in the company. Ruan Wu was unusually enthusiastic during the entire tour, actively making introductions, which left Xia Zhiyu with no opportunity to speak.
Xie Rongrong also intentionally or unintentionally ignored Xia Zhiyu.
After the tour, Ruan Wu said, “It’s getting late. Would you like to have dinner at the company before going home?”
Xie Rongrong looked at her constantly ringing phone and said, “My dad must be going crazy. I’ll treat you to dinner next time, Sister Ruan Wu. Thank you for spending time with me today.”
As Xie Rongrong spoke, her cheeks flushed slightly, and her eyes darted around. “My promise to make my dad look at me differently wasn’t a joke or just a spur-of-the-moment idea. Sister Ruan Wu, my dad won’t give me a chance in my family’s company. Can I intern at your company? I’ll just be a small assistant or something, standing on the side to learn. I promise I won’t disrupt your work.” Xie Rongrong nervously lowered her head, afraid Ruan Wu would refuse her.
Ruan Wu looked at Xia Zhiyu after hearing Xie Rongrong’s request.
Xia Zhiyu immediately nodded, encouraging Ruan Wu to agree.
First, Xie Rongrong was an Omega and only a minor background character in the original novel, posing no threat to Ruan Wu. Second, Xie Rongrong greatly admired Ruan Wu. If Xie Rongrong became the future heir of the Xie family, there would be two Omega CEOs in the business world. Ruan Wu would no longer be the sole target, and people’s prejudice against Omegas would improve. Third, Xie Rongrong interning at the Ruan Group would make Xie Wuyu hesitant to act against Ruan Wu. With his precious daughter by Ruan Wu’s side, he wouldn’t dare do anything to harm Ruan Wu, no matter how much he hated her.
Ruan Wu frowned despite seeing Xia Zhiyu nod.
Xia Zhiyu seems to like Xie Rongrong quite a bit.
Of course. Xie Rongrong was innocent and sweet, came from a good family, and wasn’t as dominant as Ruan Wu—the type of Omega Alphas liked best. If she were Xia Zhiyu, she would probably like Xie Rongrong too.
A cold glint flashed in Ruan Wu’s eyes, but her tone was gentle. “Yes, you can start working directly at the company next Monday. However, you must discuss this thoroughly with Uncle Xie and get his consent.”
Xie Rongrong looked up in surprise. “Thank you, Sister Ruan Wu! I promise I’ll persuade my dad to agree!”
Xie Wuyu personally came to the Ruan Group headquarters to pick up Xie Rongrong.
Ruan Wu and Xia Zhiyu escorted Xie Rongrong to the door. Xie Wuyu stepped out of the car with a cold face and greeted Ruan Wu. “The child is immature. I apologize for the trouble.”
Ruan Wu smiled. “Rong Rong is very smart, much like you, Uncle Xie.”
Xie Wuyu’s cold face finally broke, and he forced a slight smile at Ruan Wu.
“Dad, Sister Ruan Wu is so nice! You shouldn’t hold a grudge against her over some old business. I’m hungry. Let’s go home.” Xie Rongrong happily said goodbye to Ruan Wu, clung to Xie Wuyu’s arm, and got into the car.
As Xie Wuyu’s car drove away, Ruan Wu retracted her gaze. She walked back with Xia Zhiyu. Once they were in the elevator, she pretended to casually ask, “What do you think of Xie Rongrong?” She watched Xia Zhiyu’s expression out of the corner of her eye.
“Xie Rongrong? My only impression of her is that she’s a passionate fan of yours, just like Minister Li. I noticed this during the Xie family banquet. Xie Rongrong glared at me a few times when I stood too close to you while talking.”
Xia Zhiyu suddenly realized something. She looked troubled. “The most important reason I encouraged you to agree to her interning at the company was to make Xie Wuyu hesitate to harm you. But will Xie Rongrong compete with me for your attention?”
It used to be just her and Ruan Wu doing everything together. Now, someone who will compete for Ruan Wu’s attention is suddenly going to be around. That’s annoying.
“Ms. Ruan, if I say I regret it, can you refuse Xie Rongrong?”
Ruan Wu’s mood instantly brightened. “No, I can’t.”
It seems Xia Zhiyu has no romantic feelings for Xie Rongrong.
Xia Zhiyu wasn’t really trying to make Ruan Wu change her mind. After all, Ruan Wu’s safety was far more important than her feelings.
Friday passed, and then came the Saturday Xia Zhiyu had been looking forward to most.
Falling asleep with great anticipation, Xia Zhiyu woke up as soon as it was light on Saturday. She opened her eyes and was about to sit up when she suddenly realized that Ruan Wu was completely nestled in her arms, sleeping soundly.
Xia Zhiyu’s body stiffened, and a look of panic flashed in her eyes.
No way. She was sure she barely moved in her sleep. How could Ruan Wu be in her arms? Did the two nights they slept together form a habit?
Xia Zhiyu broke out in a cold sweat, and her guilt toward Ruan Wu reached its peak.
Ruan Wu usually wakes up earlier than me every day. She must have known what was happening but never blamed me. How tolerant is she?
If I hadn’t woken up early today, how many more nights would Ruan Wu have had to endure the indignity of being held by me?
No, I can’t let Ruan Wu compromise herself like this anymore.
Xia Zhiyu made up her mind to sleep in a separate bed from Ruan Wu. She cautiously tried to move back but suddenly realized there was open space behind her.
That is to say, she really hadn’t moved in her sleep. It was Ruan Wu herself who had crept into her arms.
Xia Zhiyu: “…” No wonder Ruan Wu found out but didn’t say anything. Was she feeling guilty?
Xia Zhiyu tried not to laugh as she looked at Ruan Wu. Ruan Wu looked incredibly cute in every way.
She could almost imagine Ruan Wu’s process, from being angry to being disbelieving, when she woke up in her arms.
To avoid exposing Ruan Wu, Xia Zhiyu lay back down, pretending she hadn’t noticed anything, and continued to “sleep.”
After an unknown amount of time, Xia Zhiyu felt the person in her arms move suddenly. Ruan Wu buried her face in Xia Zhiyu’s chest and burrowed her head deeper into her embrace.
Xia Zhiyu: “!”
Xia Zhiyu’s ears flushed, and her heart began to beat uncontrollably fast.
“Hmm?” Ruan Wu’s ear was pressed against her chest. She seemed to notice the frantic beating of Xia Zhiyu’s heart in her daze. She let out a soft, sweet sound of confusion and reached up to touch the area she found unusual.
Ruan Wu felt a soft cushion under her hand. She instinctively squeezed it. Xia Zhiyu didn’t dare to move, only holding her breath and letting Ruan Wu do as she pleased.
Just as Xia Zhiyu was about to lose control, Ruan Wu finally opened her eyes.
She saw where her hand was placed. She seemed startled, immediately pulling her hand back and quickly retreating from Xia Zhiyu’s embrace.
The warmth left, replaced by the cool air in Xia Zhiyu’s arms.
Xia Zhiyu slowly opened her eyes and happened to catch Ruan Wu’s panicked retreat into the washroom.
When Ruan Wu came out after washing up, Xia Zhiyu pretended to have just woken up at the sound.
“Good morning, Ms. Ruan~” Xia Zhiyu sat up, rubbing her eyes. The blanket slid down, and the top two buttons of her pajamas came undone, revealing a flash of pale skin.
Ruan Wu’s gaze quickly swept over her chest. Her body stiffened. “Good morning.” Ruan Wu’s cheeks were uncontrollably red. She turned her back to Xia Zhiyu and walked toward a door next to the bathroom.
Inside was a room about half the size of the bedroom—Ruan Wu’s walk-in closet.
“Bang!” Ruan Wu’s panicked attempt to close the door was a little too forceful, making a loud sound.
Xia Zhiyu, having teased her enough, realized that Ruan Wu was not only cute but also surprisingly pure. They had already slept together twice, and Ruan Wu had touched her countless times on those two nights, yet she was still flustered by the recent accidental touch.
While Ruan Wu changed, Xia Zhiyu went to the washroom to wash up. When she came out, Ruan Wu had already left the bedroom.
Xia Zhiyu was in an exceptionally good mood. Originally, her good mood was entirely due to the anticipation of tasting Ruan Wu’s cooking again today, but now there were other reasons too.
She put on the dress that Ruan Wu didn’t allow her to wear outside. Since it was still early, Xia Zhiyu sat seriously at the dressing table to apply an exquisite makeup look to leave a good impression on Ruan Wu’s friends.
After finishing her makeup, Xia Zhiyu realized it was already past nine. Ruan Wu’s friends should have arrived by now.
Xia Zhiyu put on her heels and left the bedroom. Before she even reached the living room, she heard laughter coming from that direction.
“Ruan Ruan, didn’t you say you were living with her now? Where is she?” A loud female voice asked.
Ruan Wu must have been in the kitchen. Her voice was muffled, and Xia Zhiyu couldn’t make out what she was saying.
Laughter erupted in the living room. “Okay, okay, okay. We know you care about your Secretary Xia. When she comes out, we’ll definitely behave and won’t say anything inappropriate in front of her.”
