After Becoming an Alpha, I Became a Charmer (GL) - Chapter 33
It was Monday, the start of the work week. Xia Zhiyu and Ruan Wu arrived at the company. Just as they entered the office, Ruan Wu received a call from the front desk.
“Ms. Ruan, Miss Xie, who visited a few days ago, is at the front desk and says she has something to discuss with you.”
Ruan Wu hadn’t forgotten the day she promised Xie Rongrong she could intern at the company. However, she thought Xie Wuyu would delay Xie Rongrong’s arrival. She hadn’t expected Xie Wuyu’s image as a doting father to hold, allowing Xie Rongrong to arrive so punctually.
“Tell her to come up directly. Bring her to the CEO’s office to find me.”
Xia Zhiyu, hearing this, asked, “Ms. Ruan, is someone coming to visit? Do I need to prepare any documents?”
Ruan Wu said, “No need. It’s Xie Rongrong.”
“Oh, it’s her,” Xia Zhiyu remembered. “It seems Xie Wuyu truly dotes on his daughter, but he genuinely doesn’t want Xie Rongrong to inherit the company. I really don’t understand the thinking of those Omega-hating old fogeys. I think your parents, Ms. Ruan, are the truly excellent parents who know how to spoil their daughter.”
Ruan Wu deliberately paid attention to Xia Zhiyu’s expression. Seeing that Xia Zhiyu’s face was normal when she mentioned Xie Rongrong, she calmly looked away and said, “My parents never raised me as a typical Omega since childhood. They never restricted my development, which invited a lot of gossip, and people would point fingers at me wherever I went. Xie Wuyu is just too concerned with appearances. He might not truly want to prevent his biological daughter from taking over the company, but because he cares too much about what others say, he doesn’t want to ‘lose face’ in the social circle like my parents did. So he’d rather cultivate his nephew to manage the company than give it to his own daughter.”
The moment Ruan Wu finished speaking, there was a knock on the CEO’s office door.
Xia Zhiyu immediately put on her professional work smile and walked over to open the door.
Standing outside was indeed Xie Rongrong.
The smile on Xie Rongrong’s face immediately vanished when she saw Xia Zhiyu. She seemed to still hold a grudge over Ruan Wu ignoring her for Xia Zhiyu that day.
“Miss Xie, please come in.” Xia Zhiyu smiled and stepped aside to let Xie Rongrong enter.
Xie Rongrong frowned. “Do you stay in the same office as Sister Ruan Wu every day?”
Xia Zhiyu said, “Miss Xie, I am Ms. Ruan’s secretary. It’s required for my job.”
The front desk employee, seeing the strange atmosphere between the two, stood by, silently observing.
Xia Zhiyu smiled at her. “Xiaoyue, if you have work, go back to it first.”
Yu Xiaoyue was surprised that Xia Zhiyu remembered her name, even as a mere front desk employee. A flash of delight crossed her eyes. “Yes, yes, Secretary Xia. I’m going back now.”
Yu Xiaoyue left in a daze. Xie Rongrong “hmphed” and said, “You really know how to charm people. You even try to seduce a little front desk worker.”
Xia Zhiyu’s smile remained unchanged. She reminded Xie Rongrong, “Miss Xie, Ms. Ruan is waiting for you inside.”
Only then did Xie Rongrong stop talking. With a cold face, she walked past Xia Zhiyu, intentionally trying to bump her shoulder, but Xia Zhiyu, sensing her intention beforehand, skillfully dodged. Xie Rongrong herself nearly lost her balance and fell.
Xia Zhiyu calmly held Xie Rongrong’s arm. As soon as Xie Rongrong stabilized, Xia Zhiyu immediately let go. “Miss Xie, the floor is a bit slippery. Watch your step.”
Xie Rongrong knew Xia Zhiyu did it on purpose. If Xia Zhiyu hadn’t dodged, she wouldn’t have needed Xia Zhiyu to catch her. Why is she pretending to be nice now? “…Don’t lecture me.”
Sister Ruan Wu must have been deceived by this woman’s false facade. I’ve already seen through Xia Zhiyu’s true nature. I absolutely won’t be fooled by her.
During my internship with Sister Ruan Wu, I must find a way to get Sister Ruan Wu to fire this two-faced, honey-mouthed, and cunning Alpha.
Xie Rongrong glared at Xia Zhiyu and finally walked into the CEO’s office.
Xia Zhiyu watched her cheerfully rush toward Ruan Wu and thought: With Xie Rongrong here, the coming days might not be so peaceful. Especially since Xie Rongrong dislikes her so much, even more so than Yu Qingyi did initially.
Xia Zhiyu closed the door to the CEO’s office and returned inside, only to see Xie Rongrong whining in front of Ruan Wu’s desk.
“Sister Ruan Wu. I want to intern by your side. Please don’t assign me to another department, okay? If I inherit the family business later, I’ll be sitting in the CEO’s position. I only need to learn from you.”
Before Ruan Wu could say anything, Xia Zhiyu spoke up for her. “Miss Xie, Ms. Ruan interned in various departments before inheriting the company.”
Xie Rongrong’s expression immediately darkened, but she wouldn’t show her bad side in front of Ruan Wu. So, she quickly smiled again, pretending not to hear Xia Zhiyu, and continued to pester Ruan Wu.
Xia Zhiyu started to regret encouraging Ruan Wu to agree to Xie Rongrong’s internship.
Xie Rongrong’s internship was clearly just an excuse for star-chasing.
“Sister Ruan Wu, I promise I’ll be very, very obedient if I intern by your side. I won’t complain about any hard or dirty work you give me. Please, can I stay~”
Xia Zhiyu: “…” It was a very cute plea, but Xia Zhiyu found it inexplicably grating.
Probably because she knew Xie Rongrong was causing Ruan Wu trouble.
Ruan Wu smiled gently. “Alright, you can intern by my side. For your position…” Ruan Wu looked at Xia Zhiyu. “You can be Secretary Xia’s assistant.”
“Be her assistant?” Xie Rongrong was stunned by Ruan Wu’s arrangement. She frowned. “Sister Ruan Wu, why not just let me be your assistant?”
“Secretary Xia handles all my affairs meticulously. I don’t need additional staff. Secretary Xia, on the other hand, has a heavy workload. I’ve been meaning to hire an assistant for her. Rong Rong, why don’t you try assisting Secretary Xia first? You should be able to learn a lot from her.”
Xie Rongrong still wanted to refuse, but Ruan Wu said apologetically, “Rong Rong, these are the only positions I can offer. If you want something else, I’m afraid our company can’t provide it.”
The company can’t provide it? Does that mean she won’t keep me?
Xie Rongrong had finally gained this opportunity to be near her idol. She couldn’t possibly give up so easily just because of a slight inconvenience.
Even if she had to be the assistant to the Alpha she hated, she would stay.
“Sister Ruan Wu, I agree!” Xie Rongrong said immediately after thinking it through. “Don’t worry, I’ll follow Secretary Xia and study hard.”
Ruan Wu nodded with satisfaction. “I knew you could do it, Rong Rong.”
“Go on. See what work Secretary Xia can arrange for you,” Ruan Wu said.
Xia Zhiyu smiled. “Miss Xie, please follow me.”
The suggestion to make Xie Rongrong Xia Zhiyu’s assistant was Xia Zhiyu’s own. If Xie Rongrong stayed by Ruan Wu’s side, she would surely disrupt Ruan Wu’s work. By having Xie Rongrong follow her, Xia Zhiyu could keep an eye on her, and Xia Zhiyu could say the things Ruan Wu couldn’t say to Xie Rongrong.
Ruan Wu couldn’t find a reason to reject Xia Zhiyu’s suggestion and had to agree.
It’s a good thing Xie Rongrong’s initial astonishment at Xia Zhiyu was just fleeting. Ruan Wu didn’t want her relationship with Xia Zhiyu to become even more complicated.
Xie Rongrong reluctantly followed Xia Zhiyu out of the CEO’s office to the secretary’s office across the hall.
The moment they entered the office, Xie Rongrong stopped pretending, lowering her face. She spoke directly to Xia Zhiyu. “Secretary Xia, you attended my eighteenth birthday banquet with Sister Ruan Wu. You should know my relationship with Sister Ruan Wu. I’m not like those regular low-level employees. You’d better not give me any trivial work.”
Xia Zhiyu smiled. “Of course, Miss Xie. You’re an assistant to the secretary, not a cleaner.”
“Hmph. You’re quick to catch on. Remember to assign me tasks that involve Sister Ruan Wu as much as possible. If you help me, you’ll be well-rewarded.”
Xia Zhiyu said, “Miss Xie, can I give you some basic training now? After all, you can only complete your work better after training and avoid dragging Ms. Ruan down. Miss Xie, you didn’t intentionally come to the Ruan Group to cause trouble for Ms. Ruan, right?”
“Of course not! Xia Zhiyu, you have the heart of a villain! What kind of person do you take me for!” Xie Rongrong said angrily.
“That’s good.” Xia Zhiyu pointed to a nearby seat. “This is your desk. You’ll handle your work here from now on.”
Xie Rongrong saw that her desk was the same style as Xia Zhiyu’s and was tentatively satisfied.
Even though she was Xia Zhiyu’s assistant, she wouldn’t tolerate being constantly inferior to Xia Zhiyu.
Xie Rongrong sat down at her desk. “Start now. Hurry up and train me.”
Xia Zhiyu smiled faintly. “Alright. Training starts with how to address people. First, your title for Ms. Ruan should be consistent with everyone else’s, so no more calling her ‘Sister Ruan Wu’.”
Xie Rongrong felt that the title “Ms. Ruan” didn’t reflect her closeness to Ruan Wu. “Not even in private?”
“You can use it in private settings, but there are no private settings in the company.”
“Fine. What else?” Xie Rongrong looked unhappy, her face contorted in a frown.
Xia Zhiyu said, “Miss Xie, you are now my subordinate. How should I address you in a public setting?”
Xie Rongrong absolutely couldn’t accept the Alpha she disliked calling her intimately “Rong Rong.” “Little Xie is fine.”
“Alright, Little Xie.” Xia Zhiyu agreed readily.
Xia Zhiyu’s voice was clear and gentle. When Xie Rongrong heard “Little Xie” leave her lips, her heart strangely fluttered.
“Mhm. I don’t like people using my name. Try to use it as little as possible.”
Xie Rongrong had only ever known that beauty can be deceiving. This was the first time she felt how a person’s voice could be mesmerizing.
Some natural preferences cannot be changed, no matter how hard one tries to hide them.
Xia Zhiyu blurted out, “Okay, Little Xie.”
It was too late to take back the words. She had expected Xie Rongrong to glare at her in displeasure, but Xie Rongrong just looked at the computer, constantly clicking the mouse as if she hadn’t heard Xia Zhiyu’s slip of the tongue.
Only Xie Rongrong herself knew that her ears, hidden by her hair, were slightly burning because Xia Zhiyu had called her by her name.
Xie Rongrong felt a little annoyed. Xia Zhiyu was a person she hated, yet her body reacted differently from her heart. If Xia Zhiyu found out, would she still have the face to stay by Ruan Wu’s side?
Xie Rongrong, snap out of it! Xia Zhiyu is just a despicable Alpha who relies on tricks and pretense to stay by Ruan Wu’s side as a secretary. Her true self must be utterly repulsive.
Xie Rongrong mentally reinforced this idea a few times. When she looked at Xia Zhiyu again, she had completely eliminated Xia Zhiyu’s influence on her.
“I know all the rules about addressing people. What about the work? What should I pay attention to?”
Xia Zhiyu: Pay attention to staying away from Ruan Wu.
Xia Zhiyu, of course, couldn’t say what she was thinking. “I’ll send you a document shortly. It covers most of the key work considerations. Your task for today is to read through the entire document.”
