After Being Taken Home By A Powerful, Possessive Omega - Chapter 8
The island where they would be vacationing existed independently of every nation.
Many dangerous people of uncertain identity lay low there. Yet because of that very uniqueness, the island offered more freedom than anywhere else.
For instance, the closer their plane drew to it, the more helicopters appeared beneath them, their rotors spinning. There were even people darting recklessly around in personal aircraft.
After witnessing two planes collide and their pilots float down in flying devices with her own eyes, Ji Chun turned a burning gaze toward Pei Heng.
She wanted one so badly.
Could Pei Heng buy one for her?
She would do anything.
Pei Heng ignored the look beside her.
“You haven’t even earned a license. Why are you already asking for a helicopter?”
Her brain had not fully developed, and her limbs were as stiff as a spirit that had only just cultivated a human form, yet she already wanted to play with something so dangerous.
Still, Pei Heng remembered that Ji Chun had once liked flying aircraft.
A desire to court death must have been a standard part of Alpha genetics.
She had only come this time to take Ji Chun surfing and introduce her to the island’s various dangerous figures so they would recognize her.
As for the other terrifying activities, Pei Heng did not particularly want Ji Chun trying them yet.
The moment they stepped off the plane, a crowd dressed in black suits and sunglasses surrounded them.
Ji Chun’s gaze sharpened. Every hair on her body seemed to rise as she bared her teeth, only to be stunned when the woman beside her slapped her across the head.
“They’re bodyguards. The one leading them is a local tyrant with a thirty-million bounty on her head outside the island.”
“With them here, our chances of returning alive this time rise to eighty percent.”
“And the remaining… twenty percent?”
Ji Chun looked at the dark mass of people behind them.
The leader appeared to be an Alpha, though she carried no noticeable scent. A vicious mask covered her face. She wore a sleeveless vest, and dense scars decorated the bulging muscles of her upper arms.
She did not look like someone to provoke.
Ji Chun spread out the mental power of a top-tier Alpha.
From the instant they appeared, countless gazes had begun spying on them from the shadows.
Her brow furrowed slightly, her pale eyes fixed on Pei Heng’s figure.
Pleased by the Alpha’s instinctively dependent gaze, Pei Heng curved her lips.
“The remaining twenty percent depends on fate.”
This was not the first time she had brought Ji Chun to this island.
Long ago, back when Ji Chun was still a child a full head shorter than her, Pei Shan had brought her here. Ji Chun had followed behind Pei Heng all the way.
On this island, danger and opportunity existed side by side.
With good luck, one could secure several major projects and solidify one’s position.
With poor luck, one could be chopped into pieces and fed to the fish without anyone caring.
Pei Heng had come prepared.
And conveniently, this younger sister whose existence had yet to be made public was someone nobody would care about even if she were cut into pieces.
Pei Heng had even harbored a secret anticipation, wondering what this rat from the shadows would look like while fleeing and begging for mercy.
Unexpectedly, however, Pei Heng had been the first one captured.
And the only one.
Her status as the Pei family’s publicly recognized next heir had been far more conspicuous than she imagined.
When she regained consciousness, she was tied inside a brightly lit room. The black muzzle of a gun pressed against her temple, and every breath she took smelled of gunpowder.
“Your life in exchange for the Pei family’s secrets.”
The masked man’s voice was cold.
He seemed certain that this woman, who had only just graduated from university, would surrender the information.
Pei Heng merely laughed softly, candlelight reflected in her amber eyes.
“Since when was my life valuable enough to equal the Pei family’s secrets?”
“You should have kidnapped Pei Shan. Perhaps he could have been exchanged for something.”
In such a traditional, powerful family, an Omega had to work tens of thousands of times harder than an Alpha to receive recognition.
Had Pei Shan not been such a beast, this position would never have fallen to her.
Even so, Pei Shan was the only Alpha of his generation in the Pei family.
The family would never allow him to suddenly die outside.
The man pressed his lips together.
The black gun muzzle moved away from her vital point and pressed against her shoulder instead.
“I’ll give you one final chance. Otherwise, you’ll suffer a fate worse than death.”
“I’ll tell you—”
“The Pei family’s secrets are here!”
The man’s attention wavered for a single instant.
The next moment, a figure smashed through the roof and crashed heavily onto the floor.
Smoke began dispersing from the blood-covered hand at the edge of the impact.
The smell of gunpowder stirred through the air, as though something were about to misfire.
The man raised his gun at once and fired into the smoke.
The sound of a bullet entering flesh made him relax for barely a moment.
Then another bullet pierced directly through the center of his forehead.
A blood-covered figure emerged from the mist.
It was Ji Chun.
The younger sister Pei Shan had purchased from a man-eating den of the dead.
“He wouldn’t dare act alone. His accomplices may already be on their way. Aren’t you afraid?”
Her restraints were removed.
Pei Heng lowered her eyes toward the child who did not even dare raise her head and look directly at her.
Ji Chun shook her head slightly, turned, and pointed toward a side door.
“My helicopter is over there.”
Pei Heng said nothing more. She nodded and quickly followed.
The second they stepped outside, the small building behind them exploded.
A damp, sticky hand caught Pei Heng’s palm.
The next instant, a warm body pressed against her back, and the force of the blast threw them several meters away.
The body beneath her was nearly soaked through with blood.
Not a single drop belonged to Pei Heng.
She rose and looked down at the mangled person on the ground without emotion in her amber eyes.
Too many people had risked their lives for her.
This alone was not enough to earn her attention.
After waiting several seconds without seeing any response from the person on the ground, Pei Heng turned without hesitation and prepared to leave.
Then a faint rustling sound arose behind her.
The blood-covered person staggered upright.
Blood and grime coated her face, yet her almond-shaped eyes remained exceptionally clear and bright.
This was the first time their gazes truly met.
Pei Heng hated the den of the dead.
Everyone there reeked of filth and decay. They reached out with hands like withered branches, trying to seize anyone passing by in hopes of gaining a chance to live.
But Ji Chun—
This was the first time Pei Heng had seen such pure eyes in someone standing at the edge of death.
“Did you… earn your pilot’s license?”
A single sentence shattered the favorable impression Pei Heng had just begun to form.
Her expression turned cold, though her gaze paused when it reached Ji Chun’s clothing, which had been soaked through with blood.
“I know how to fly. We’ll go together.”
Ji Chun was still bleeding from somewhere on her body.
Each step left behind a distinct bloody footprint.
They boarded the helicopter together.
Pei Heng sat in the back and watched Ji Chun skillfully take off.
“Will they follow us?”
“No. Burning the building erased the evidence. They aren’t bold enough.”
“Mm.”
Pei Heng continued staring at Ji Chun’s profile, silently estimating how many bones she had broken.
The explosion had been powerful.
Even with a human body shielding her, Pei Heng had felt the searing heat.
Since Ji Chun had not died, she must have curled up on the ground because the pain had made it impossible to rise.
Even in that state, she had not made a sound.
Someone like this was highly likely to become a threat if allowed to live.
Pei Heng lowered her eyes in thought, considering whether she should kill her as soon as they landed.
There was, however, another possibility that might allow Ji Chun to remain alive.
The helicopter landed smoothly.
The person in the pilot’s seat kept her eyes lowered.
“Walk straight ahead and you’ll be home. I can’t leave with you.”
Pei Heng did not get out.
Instead, she leaned forward over Ji Chun. Her amorous peach-blossom eyes curved slightly as blood-scented breath collided with the fragrance of sandalwood.
“How did you know I’d been kidnapped?”
“You secretly escaped.”
“Why?”
Every word was gentle, like a lover whispering intimately beside her ear.
Ji Chun tightened her grip on the controls.
Her entire body hurt.
Blood loss made her tremble faintly, yet her heart beat with extraordinary violence, each thud lashing against her soul.
She wanted her so badly.
Wanted to possess her.
A salty tear suddenly fell onto Ji Chun’s bloodstained hand, so quickly it seemed like an illusion.
The woman’s pleasant scent continued closing in.
“Do you want to possess me?”
“Do you want to mark me and make it impossible for me to leave you?”
Feeling Ji Chun tremble, Pei Heng smiled.
“Do you like me?”
“Do you like me so much that you would rather die yourself than let anything happen to me?”
“Do you like me so much that even though you know you might die here alone from blood loss, and that Pei Shan will not care about you, you’re still afraid I’ll be criticized for walking beside you, so you’re telling me to leave first?”
The woman tilted her head in confusion.
“But why?”
“I have clearly never done anything for you.”
“Even when I took you to have your identification photograph taken, it was only because brightly colored clothes weren’t permitted. I threw away the coat I lent you that same day.”
Barely conscious, Ji Chun clenched the seat beneath her and greedily inhaled the sandalwood pheromones in the air.
She knew that coat had been casually discarded in the trash outside the door.
She had retrieved it and kept it beside her bed.
Only after the woman’s scent slowly faded from it completely did she hang it inside her wardrobe.
It was as though simply looking at it could give her a reason to keep living.
The woman beside her bent down and lifted her onto her back.
Pei Heng’s warm body temperature brought pain spreading outward from every wound on Ji Chun’s body, accompanied by a secret, addictive pleasure.
Pei Heng had a beautiful figure.
Dirty blood flowed from Ji Chun’s wounds and soaked through the thin fabric over the woman’s back, faintly outlining the curve of her waist.
Ji Chun held her breath and greedily savored every detail.
At this moment, they resembled partners bound together in the middle of an escape.
“Pei Heng.”
She whispered the name with barely any breath.
There was no purpose behind it.
She expected no answer.
She was simply secretly delighted that one day, the two characters spoken from her lips could be heard by Pei Heng herself.
“Mm.”
Unexpectedly, the woman carrying her responded softly.
The sound brushed against Ji Chun’s heart like the gentle waters of a hot spring.
No further answer came.
Only the breathing against Pei Heng’s back gradually weakened.
Pei Heng lowered her eyes and counted the number of steps remaining until they reached the medical unit she had brought with her.
After a long while, she spoke softly to the burning, sticky gaze beside her ear.
“Ji Chun, a bodyguard can also risk her life by standing in front of someone.”
“That alone is too cheap.”
“If you want me to notice you, become stronger.”
“Become strong enough that I have no choice but to look at you as an equal.”
Ji Chun heard those final words through a haze of consciousness before passing out.
Feeling the hand that had carefully avoided Pei Heng’s lower back fall weakly against her body, Pei Heng’s gaze darkened.
She had never expected that her rare moment of compassion would cause this adopted younger sister to develop such feelings for her.
In that case, she could continue raising her.
There was nothing more selfless than love.
And nothing more useful to exploit.
—
Returning from the memory, Pei Heng looked back at the Alpha following behind her, anxiously clutching the corner of her clothes.
Her lips curved stiffly.
She had kept Ji Chun because she thought that affection might someday prove useful.
Yet so many things had happened afterward that she had nearly lost her life.
And now even Pei Heng herself had fallen into it.
Perhaps it would have been better to kill her that day.
But since she had allowed Ji Chun to remain, then Ji Chun would stay beside her forever.
She would repay every tear and every moment Pei Heng had spent on her.
