After Divorcing My Omega Ex-Wife - Chapter 10
The rare absurdity left Shi Yun somewhat unable to find her bearings.
What exactly was she doing?
It was one thing to let Xie Qingyun take her finger into her mouth, but what was she doing now?
Did this count as an indirect kiss?
She was startled by her own thought and immediately cupped more water to splash onto her face.
The water trickled down her neck, flowing all the way into the gap of her collar.
The front of her chest was damp.
She pulled out a few tissues and padded them against her clothes, but still could not dry them.
Going out like this would always be a little awkward.
Shi Yun opened the door and poked half her head out, asking Xie Qingyun on the bed, “Is there a hair dryer? I just got my clothes wet.”
The moment Xie Qingyun saw her damp bangs, she immediately understood what had happened.
“Yes.”
Shi Yun waited for her to continue, but Xie Qingyun said nothing more.
She raised a hand and pointed at the bedside cabinet. “But it’s over here.”
Xie Qingyun did not know how wet her clothes were.
It was just that a mischievous impulse had risen.
Shi Yun lowered her head and glanced at her own clothes. Pressing her lips together, she steeled herself and walked out, raising a hand to cover the damp patch on her chest.
After the white shirt got wet, the color of the underwear beneath faintly showed through.
Xie Qingyun raised her brows.
It was black lace.
Shi Yun cursed inwardly. If she had known this would happen today, she would never have worn underwear of this color.
She glanced at Xie Qingyun. Xie Qingyun’s gaze was very direct, fixed straight on her.
It was a somewhat impolite up-and-down assessment.
Shi Yun felt uncomfortable all over from being looked at.
Xie Qingyun could not possibly think she was seducing her, could she?
Wandering around in front of her ex in half-wet clothes—it was hard to say there was no seductive implication.
Shi Yun crouched down and opened the cabinet beside Xie Qingyun.
Xie Qingyun also tilted her head and looked over with her.
Empty.
There was nothing within sight.
Completely empty. Forget a hair dryer—there was not even a medical record.
Realizing she had been played, Shi Yun suddenly raised her head and looked at Xie Qingyun, only to see an innocent expression on her face.
Shi Yun had just been about to question her when Xie Qingyun put on a look of sudden realization. “Sorry, I forgot. Yesterday, Qian Can put the hair dryer in the cabinet under the sink.”
Xie Qingyun scratched her head apologetically. “I’ve been groggy from staying in the hospital these past two days. I keep mixing up the hospital and home.” She lifted her face, lowering her eyes obediently. “You won’t blame me, right?”
Shi Yun opened her mouth several times. In the end, she swallowed. She had a belly full of words, but now all of them were forced back down.
Since the other party’s attitude had already reached this point, even if she really had been messing with her, Shi Yun had no way to blame her anymore.
She bit her lip and said fine.
Turning around, she walked back to the bathroom. Sure enough, she found the hair dryer in the cabinet.
After all that fuss, some of her hair had already half dried, but her collar was still damp. The knit top clung to her body, absorbing her warmth.
After plugging it in, warm air blew against her skin. Her thoughts flew all over the place. Her long hair was already messy from what had just happened.
There was no way to restore the neat look she’d had when she left. She looked extremely disheveled.
Whenever she saw Xie Qingyun, she always became disheveled.
If this already counted as disheveled, then how disheveled must those things Chen Su had told her about have been?
Shi Yun simply did not dare imagine it.
Her relationship with her parents was not good, and she did not have many friends either.
All these years, only Chen Su had been her close friend.
But Chen Su would eventually fall in love too. She could not stay by Shi Yun’s side every moment.
Once her hair was dry, she put down the hair dryer and looked at herself in the mirror.
Her face was very young. She looked younger than her age, and when walking on the street, people often mistook her for a college student.
Maybe.
Maybe back then, she had not loved Xie Qingyun that much.
Maybe she had only wanted to find something to do.
And Xie Qingyun had happened to appear.
Would she have been the same if it had been someone else?
Shi Yun did not dare think about it.
She forced out a smile and walked out of the bathroom.
It was almost noon, and the corridor had begun to grow noisy.
Xie Qingyun had already started reading the script from earlier.
Shi Yun did not understand how Xie Qingyun could take her finger into her mouth moments ago, then now pretend to be so serious while reading a script.
Shi Yun lowered her eyes and sat back in the same spot as before.
“Is this your next drama?”
Xie Qingyun shook her head, opened to the character introduction, and handed it to Shi Yun. “Take a look.”
“Me?” Shi Yun was somewhat surprised.
Xie Qingyun nodded. “It’s only the character biography. You can take a look first. You won’t leak it, right?”
Shi Yun froze for a moment, then took the script and began flipping through the character biography.
The more she read, the deeper her brows furrowed.
This was indeed a good script, but it was not the most suitable one for Xie Qingyun.
She did not quite know how to say it.
Was she supposed to say, You’re too old, and this role is most suitable for an actress around twenty-five?
How hurtful would that be?
Seeing her like this, Xie Qingyun laughed. “Just say whatever you want. I won’t get angry at you.”
Over the past few days, Shi Yun had already gotten used to the flirtation hidden in Xie Qingyun’s words. Once she had experienced it enough, she no longer felt anything about it.
She could simply choose what to listen to.
“Then I’ll really say it?”
“Say it.”
“I feel like the biggest problem with this drama is the age mismatch. An actress around thirty would certainly have enough experience to perform it well, but because of that experience, she would also appear too mature.”
Xie Qingyun narrowed her eyes, somewhat probing. “Then do you have any good recommendations?”
Shi Yun furrowed her brows tightly, propped up her chin, and went through the new-generation actresses in her mind one by one.
Very few were suitable.
Overall, although Xie Qingyun was not the most suitable, she still matched about seventy percent.
The role needed both experience and youth.
There were too many people in this circle who had had smooth sailing since birth and had never experienced hardship. Many people had been escorting them safely along the way. Wanting them to act out such a role would be very difficult.
Her tightly furrowed brows loosened. In truth, a candidate had already surfaced in her mind. She glanced at Xie Qingyun, looking at her expression. Xie Qingyun still had that calm, unruffled look.
In the end, Shi Yun still did not say it.
“I can’t think of anyone either.”
“Is it that you can’t think of anyone, or that you don’t dare say it?”
Shi Yun choked. The person she was thinking of was Zhao Zhilin, but when she thought of all the rumors outside about the grudges and entanglements between the two of them, it felt inappropriate no matter what.
The script was already in Xie Qingyun’s hands. If she said Zhao Zhilin was more suitable, wouldn’t that just be making trouble for her?
Shi Yun said, “I can’t think of anyone, and I don’t want to say it.”
Xie Qingyun lowered her head and gave a soft laugh.
“So it turns out you still care so much about my feelings.”
It was a very light sentence, so light that Shi Yun almost did not hear it. Like a gust of wind, it scattered the moment it passed.
“What?”
She had only caught a few words, and they were not enough to piece together a sentence.
“Nothing.”
“I’ll be honest with you. I’ve already recommended Zhao Zhilin to the director for this script.”
Shi Yun’s eyes widened. Her mouth opened, and for a moment, she was so shocked that she could not speak.
She had not expected herself and Xie Qingyun to think of the same person.
Even more than that, she had not expected Xie Qingyun to be willing to hand over such a good opportunity so easily.
Anyone with eyes could tell that this project—from the director to the screenwriter to the entire production team—had been put together to compete for awards.
Yet Xie Qingyun had simply said she did not want it.
“You…”
Xie Qingyun’s voice remained very soft. “Ah-Yun, I have pursuits too. If something isn’t suitable for me, I won’t force it. But if something is suitable for me, I’ll risk my life to get it.”
Shi Yun tilted her head. She could not quite tell whether Xie Qingyun was talking about this drama or something else.
After a pause, Xie Qingyun continued, “But the director told me that Zhao Zhilin’s contract is about to expire. Her willingness to renew isn’t strong, and all sorts of projects sent to her have been rejected by her company for various reasons.”
At this point, Shi Yun had a lot to say. Her conversations with Zhao Zhilin had gone fairly pleasantly.
The only thing blocking them was the astronomical termination fee.
She and Chen Su truly could not come up with that amount of money.
“Couldn’t Zhao Zhilin sue them? As far as I know, because of her company, quite a few of her resources were affected in previous years.”
“She could, but if she does, public perception of her will become very bad. And once she takes that route, Zhao Zhilin will inevitably be dragged down for many years.”
“You know how many people in this circle have been dragged down by their agencies until they became a complete mess, never able to rise again.”
Shi Yun had not expected Xie Qingyun to actually help them come up with ideas. She subconsciously thanked her.
“Why are you being polite? We’ll all be working together in the future.”
Shi Yun froze for a second, not reacting to what that meant.
Then she quickly understood.
“?!”
“You’ve decided to take a stake in Yinian?!” Shi Yun shot up from the chair. She had moved too abruptly, and the chair tilted, failed to stay steady, and fell sideways onto the floor.
A little too excited, Shi Yun stuck her tongue out at Xie Qingyun, then turned around and picked up the chair. “Sorry, sorry. I’m just too happy! I have to hurry and share this good news with Chen Su!”
Xie Qingyun looked at her. She was lively like a young dog in the prime of life, full of endless energy every day. When happy, she would hug her owner and act spoiled; when unhappy, she would lower her head and lie on the ground.
“I said I would make it up to you.”
She felt sincerely grateful for this plan she had thought of.
Money—she had plenty of it.
Over the years, she had earned enough money. Fame and profit were all external things.
Moreover, she already had them. Her position would never change, and no one else could surpass her.
The finale position on the red carpet, the center position at galas.
Over the years, she had sat steady as Mount Tai, watching others fight and scramble.
She really was a little tired.
The happiness she wanted was nothing more than coming home and seeing the person she loved acting spoiled toward her.
Smiling, hugging her arm, and telling her what she had done that day.
The Shi Yun of the past had once given her all of this, but what had Xie Qingyun done?
Every day, she had furrowed her brows and complained that Shi Yun was annoying, telling her to stay away.
She had driven her away again and again.
She would make it up to her. She had so much, so much money.
Now, she only wanted Shi Yun’s love.
Shi Yun grabbed Xie Qingyun’s arm, her eyes sparkling. “Thank you.”
Shi Yun was smiling so widely she could not close her mouth. She only felt that heaven had treated her well.
Whether Xie Qingyun was acting out of guilt, compensation, or some other messy reason, Shi Yun did not care.
As long as the money truly landed in her hands, as long as the career she wanted to build could be completed, she was not willing to think too much.
“Hiss—”
Xie Qingyun cried out in pain.
Shi Yun immediately came back to herself. “What’s wrong? What’s wrong?”
She had been so excited that she had not even noticed Xie Qingyun.
Xie Qingyun raised her hand. Only then did Shi Yun discover that the IV bag had already run empty, and neither of them had noticed.
Shi Yun had been immersed in her excitement, while Xie Qingyun had been immersed in Shi Yun’s excitement.
Blood had already flowed back into the tube.
Shi Yun hurriedly pressed the call bell at the head of the bed.
The nurse came quickly. After removing the needle for Xie Qingyun, she said to Shi Yun, “When the patient is getting an IV, the family member needs to pay attention.”
Shi Yun wanted to open her mouth and explain, but when she thought about it, there had only been her and the patient in the room. Wasn’t it her responsibility? She could only accept it.
She weakly argued, “I’m not her family…”
The nurse did not hear clearly. “What?”
Shi Yun wanted to say it again, but then felt there was no need to explain so much. “I understand. I’ll pay attention next time.”
After removing Xie Qingyun’s needle, the nurse left the ward.
Sensing that the nurse had already gone far away, Shi Yun asked apologetically, “You don’t feel uncomfortable, do you? Does it hurt?”
Xie Qingyun looked at her. “Aren’t you my family?”
