After Divorcing My Omega Ex-Wife - Chapter 4
Shi Yun sent the divorce agreement to a lawyer friend she knew well, asking them to check it over and help produce a revised version as soon as possible.
She really did not want to drag this out any longer.
After staying up all night and having a huge argument with someone, Shi Yun’s head felt heavy and muddled.
She had no choice but to go into the bathroom and take a cold shower.
After drying her hair, she lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep.
So she simply opened her schedule and checked the work she had missed while hospitalized.
One minor car accident had thrown all her work plans into chaos, leaving them piled together in one mess.
She brought her laptop over and sat cross-legged on the sofa. Most of the tasks on her schedule had been crossed off and handed over to Chen Su or other friends. The only thing that had not yet happened was a meeting with Zhao Zhilin from half a month ago.
The cursor remained where it was.
It was not that she did not want to hand the work off to someone else. It was just that Zhao Zhilin was only willing to communicate with her.
About half a year ago, Chen Su had approached Shi Yun, wanting to start an entertainment company with her. They would mainly focus on artist management. Chen Su had signed Lu Yi under herself in order to protect her, while Shi Yun happened to need a project that could bring her from behind the scenes to the front and prove her own abilities. The two immediately hit it off.
Aside from Lu Yi, Shi Yun had gradually gotten in touch with some other minor artists and had also gone to art schools to look for plenty of fresh faces.
Overall, she had not been too satisfied. She had always wanted to find an artist who had both traffic and representative works.
It was at that moment that a film awards ceremony brought Zhao Zhilin into her line of sight.
Xie Qingyun’s rival. The actress who always accompanied the Best Actress race but never won. Those were labels she could not shake off.
But Shi Yun saw in her a kind of disdain for the vanity fair of fame and profit.
After returning, she looked through Zhao Zhilin’s information.
Zhao Zhilin had entered the industry at eighteen, starting from obscure supporting roles. It was not until a fight scene that she truly shone. The ridiculous thing was that this scene had only appeared in the film’s behind-the-scenes footage. In the actual movie, it had been cut completely. It was Zhao Zhilin’s fans who heavily edited and recreated that behind-the-scenes clip, stirring up quite a storm on the internet and bringing her into the public eye.
Unfortunately, the company she had signed with was too small and could not make use of that momentum. Over the years, she had never managed to get especially good scripts.
Several times, she had gotten into production crews through her own auditions. Although she had accumulated a wave of fans, she often brushed past the title of Best Actress as well.
Shi Yun took out her phone and contacted Chen Su. After the car accident, not only had she forgotten everything about Xie Qingyun, but she also could not clearly remember things that were even slightly connected to her. She still needed to confirm the situation with Chen Su first.
Perhaps because it was still early, only the beeping tone of an unanswered call came through.
Lu Yi had only debuted a year or two ago and had yet to establish herself in the entertainment industry. Their company had no leading female artist. Shi Yun did not even know how they were supposed to keep operating.
She had to make another appointment with Zhao Zhilin. Even if Zhao Zhilin was a tough bone to chew, Shi Yun had to chew through it.
“Ding-dong.”
The doorbell rang. Shi Yun looked over.
Who would come looking for her at this hour? Could it be Xie Qingyun turning back again?
Shi Yun shook her head. Xie Qingyun had the passcode to this house.
She walked to the door and opened the facial-recognition smart lock. A woman appeared on the screen.
She was wearing sunglasses and a mask. On her upper body, she had on a well-tailored waist-cinching shirt, its collar slightly open.
Shi Yun carefully identified her through the screen. As if the other woman had telepathy, she took off her sunglasses at the same time and leaned closer to the camera.
In an instant, Shi Yun’s eyes widened.
It was actually Zhao Zhilin.
She immediately opened the door and welcomed her in.
Her brain was still frozen, but her actions were faster.
“Miss Zhao.” Shi Yun was still dazed and standing by the door. Zhao Zhilin took off her sunglasses and mask, tilted her head, and spread her hands. “What’s wrong? Am I not welcome?”
Shi Yun exclaimed, “How could that be!”
Like presenting a treasure, Zhao Zhilin lifted the box in her hand in front of them. It was cake from the shop Shi Yun liked.
Shi Yun’s pupils widened slightly. It would be a lie to say she was not pleasantly surprised.
But she also could not quite figure out what was going on.
“Then may I come in?”
“O-of course.”
Shi Yun rarely had moments where she did not know what to do with her hands and feet, but when facing Zhao Zhilin, she always felt somewhat unable to grasp the situation.
The vase that had shattered yesterday had already been cleaned up. In its place was a newly released medium-sized blind-box ornament from a certain brand.
Shi Yun opened the cabinet, preparing to take out a new pair of slippers.
But Zhao Zhilin’s gaze landed on a pair of slippers placed beneath the cabinet. “Someone’s home?”
Shi Yun froze, not knowing how to describe her relationship with Xie Qingyun. A young married couple preparing to divorce? Or strangers who rarely saw each other?
Thinking of the fact that their marriage was hidden, she ultimately did not say their relationship out loud. She smiled. “My wife left in a hurry this morning and didn’t put them away. Sorry you had to see that.” Then she took out a new pair of slippers and placed them in front of Zhao Zhilin, before stuffing the slippers Xie Qingyun had worn yesterday into the cabinet.
Zhao Zhilin nodded in understanding, then pressed her lips together and smiled. “Your wife?”
Shi Yun heard something unusual in her tone, but it would not be appropriate to continue pursuing it.
Shi Yun led her to the reception room. First, she invited Zhao Zhilin to sit, then turned around to make tea for her.
She took out a vintage tea set from the cabinet and smiled at Zhao Zhilin. “Miss Zhao, is this set all right?”
Zhao Zhilin seemed to be in a very good mood. There was always a smile on her face as she tilted her head and answered, “Of course.”
“You can call me Ah-Zhi, or Zhilin.”
“All right, Zhao… Zhilin.” Shi Yun was still somewhat unaccustomed to it.
But from what she observed, Zhao Zhilin’s impression of her seemed good. Signing her still seemed very possible.
Zhao Zhilin opened the cake box, took out the knife, and prepared to cut the cake in half. After pausing for two seconds, she turned her head and said to Shi Yun, “Should I cut it into three pieces? Shall we leave a piece for Ah-Yun’s ‘wife’ too?”
Shi Yun froze. The emphasis in that sentence had landed on the word “wife.” Even if she were slower, she could hear that something was off.
“As you wish.”
“I heard some time ago that you were hospitalized, Ah-Yun. I was terribly worried and wanted to visit you at the hospital, but for some reason, someone stopped me outside the ward. You won’t blame me for only coming now, will you?” Zhao Zhilin handed a piece of cake to Shi Yun.
“How could I?”
Shi Yun remembered that when she had first been hospitalized, there had indeed been a commotion outside the ward for a while. She had wanted to go out and see, but her head had hurt so badly.
When she asked the bodyguards at the door, they only said someone had been causing trouble.
She had not taken it to heart.
So back then, it had been Zhao Zhilin?
“I’m already happy that you came to see me.” Shi Yun said this sincerely. Who would not want a potential partner to anxiously come visit them in the hospital? At the very least, it showed that the cooperation still had great hope.
Zhao Zhilin changed the topic. “About the signing we discussed before…”
Shi Yun caught the key words, and her breath hitched.
“I’m quite willing to cooperate. It’s just…” Zhao Zhilin placed the cake plate on the coffee table and leaned back against the sofa in a relaxed manner.
Shi Yun understood inwardly. She was probably going to raise some other conditions. Their company was determined to sign Zhao Zhilin, so as long as the conditions were not excessive, she was willing to agree.
“If you have any concerns, you can tell me. The terms we drafted before were only an initial version. If you have any thoughts, we can continue discussing them.”
Zhao Zhilin shook her head. “I’m very satisfied with the terms you offered.”
The conditions Shi Yun had given were first-rate. She had given Zhao Zhilin almost complete freedom.
“It’s just that I wonder whether your wife will mind us working together.”
This was the second time Zhao Zhilin had mentioned “wife.” Shi Yun frowned slightly.
She and Xie Qingyun were secretly married. In theory, no one should know about their relationship.
“But you and she are already divorced. Since she’s already your ex-wife, it shouldn’t matter, right?”
By the time Xie Qingyun arrived at Heyuan, it was nearly noon. On the way in, she had not seen Zhao Zhilin’s celebrity van, so she guessed that Zhao Zhilin had driven herself here.
Anxious, she urged the driver to go faster. Her brows had been tightly furrowed the whole way and never relaxed.
She had a rather bad feeling.
People online always said she and Zhao Zhilin were rivals, but in truth, the two of them had never even met in public.
Xie Qingyun had learned from Qian Can that Shi Yun was in contact with Zhao Zhilin.
Qian Can had even asked her why Shi Yun had never thought of signing Xie Qingyun to her own company.
How had she answered at the time?
“What can a rich second-generation idler who knows nothing and only sits around squandering money accomplish?”
At the time, Qian Can had only shaken her head, certain that Xie Qingyun would regret it one day.
Now she truly did regret it.
So what if Shi Yun knew nothing? So what if she only sat around spending money? Behind Shi Yun was the Shi family, and there was also Xie Qingyun herself. Why couldn’t Shi Yun squander a little money?
After getting out of the car, Xie Qingyun quickly walked toward the house, only to see the person she least wanted to see.
Zhao Zhilin.
Xie Qingyun’s face turned cold. “What are you doing at my house?”
Thinking of the way Shi Yun had smiled at Zhao Zhilin just now, Xie Qingyun was so jealous she was going mad. Shi Yun had not smiled at her like that in such a long time.
Why?
Why did Shi Yun smile at her?
Seeing Xie Qingyun, Zhao Zhilin half-took off her sunglasses, letting them rest on the bridge of her nose. She looked Xie Qingyun up and down, then said contemptuously, “Seeing is believing. Miss Xie isn’t much after all.”
For a moment, Xie Qingyun was angry.
These days, even a mistress who came knocking at someone’s door dared to be this arrogant?
But Zhao Zhilin’s next sentence instantly changed her expression.
“What else could I be doing? Pursuing your ex-wife, of course.”
