After Divorcing My Omega Ex-Wife - Chapter 5
The noon sun was scorching, making Xie Qingyun’s vision go dark.
Zhao Zhilin’s mocking gaze, mixed with Shi Yun’s smile, kept circling through her mind.
The secret she had always wanted to hide—had Zhao Zhilin said it out loud or not?
How much did Shi Yun know?
Xie Qingyun licked her lips, her throat tightening in waves.
She did not know how she opened the front door. By the time she came back to herself, she was already standing in the foyer.
The coolness inside the house contrasted sharply with the blazing sun outside.
There was a pair of slippers she had never seen before by the door. She took her own slippers from the cabinet and quietly walked into the living room.
Shi Yun was not there.
Xie Qingyun let out a breath of relief. She still did not know how to face Shi Yun, so this gave her a little time to buffer.
Before she even walked into the reception room, she smelled Zhao Zhilin’s pheromones. The scent was very faint, but as an omega, she was sensitive to the pheromones of other omegas.
Before she could react, the sound of slippers shuffling approached from afar. Xie Qingyun turned around and met Shi Yun’s eyes.
Shi Yun had stopped on the landing of the stairs, looking down at Xie Qingyun from above. Her expression was terrifyingly dark.
Her face was gloomy, and through the stair railing, Xie Qingyun could vaguely see a small, thin booklet in her hand.
From that distance, Xie Qingyun could not see clearly what it was, but when she saw Shi Yun’s expression, she unconsciously grew nervous.
She swallowed and walked forward ingratiatingly. “Ah-Yun, you had a friend over?”
Shi Yun did not answer. With a dark expression, she walked downstairs step by step.
As the distance between them closed, Xie Qingyun finally saw what the booklet in Shi Yun’s hand was.
A divorce certificate.
Something in her mind snapped with a roar. The sounds around her suddenly vanished. She opened her mouth, wanting to speak, but no words came out.
Xie Qingyun instinctively raised a hand to stop Shi Yun, wanting to explain.
Shi Yun’s steps were slow. She glanced at Xie Qingyun with an indifferent gaze, then turned sideways and passed through the gap between Xie Qingyun and the sofa without even brushing against the corner of her clothes. Finally, she sat down on the sofa.
Shi Yun looked up at Xie Qingyun, who was still standing frozen in place, and gave a cold laugh before heavily throwing the divorce certificate onto the coffee table.
“Was it fun messing with me?”
Xie Qingyun’s chest felt tight, and the dizziness surged up again. She did not dare meet Shi Yun’s eyes. That questioning tone was about to drive her insane.
She instinctively tried to defend herself. “I didn’t…”
From the beginning, she had guessed that the divorce could not be hidden for long.
But she had never thought it would happen this quickly.
After Shi Yun’s car accident and amnesia, she had forgotten everything that had happened between them.
So Xie Qingyun had held on to a kind of fluke. Since heaven had been willing to give her a chance and let Shi Yun forget all the hurt…
Then she should seize that opportunity and openly make it up to Shi Yun, treating her well.
Another cold laugh sounded. Shi Yun spread the divorce certificate open on the table and tapped her fingertip on their names. “You didn’t what? Didn’t divorce me, or didn’t mess with me?”
Xie Qingyun fell silent again.
Only the sound of the robot vacuum moving back and forth remained.
Xie Qingyun’s fingers curled. She picked up the divorce certificate and looked at it.
Her fingertips clenched tightly around one corner. She had clearly hidden the divorce certificate so well.
Shi Yun seemed to see through her thoughts. “Did you think you were especially clever? That if you hid the divorce certificate in the safe, I wouldn’t know?”
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry.” Xie Qingyun sat beside Shi Yun, grabbed her hand, and carefully placed it against her chest. “Maybe I did a lot of wrong things before and hurt you. But now, I truly do like you.”
Shi Yun found it laughable. She forcefully pulled her hand back, so hard that a red mark appeared on the back of it. “You’re curious how I knew the password, aren’t you?”
Shi Yun half-leaned against the sofa back. Her gaze was full of pity, though it was unclear whether she was pitying herself or Xie Qingyun at this moment.
“I thought you just didn’t like me, but that you hadn’t done anything wrong. But I never expected your character to be this low. You used my younger sister’s birthday as the safe password to lock away our divorce certificate.” An indescribable pain surged up. The bitterness in her throat almost made Shi Yun choke. She pointed at herself and said, word by word, “And in the end, you tell me you like me?”
Even though she had lost her memories, the person before her was someone Shi Yun had truly loved. The love and hatred that had once surged up came back, and at the moment she saw the divorce certificate, the dull physical ache could not be avoided.
Shi Yun had a habit of keeping a diary. She had only just found the diary too. She had merely skimmed through a few pages and had already discovered that Xie Qingyun had truly treated her terribly before.
The further she flipped, the colder her heart became.
She had only tried entering Shi Yu’s birthday as a test, yet it had actually opened.
It felt as if the sky had collapsed and the earth had split apart.
Xie Qingyun desperately shook her head and grabbed Shi Yun’s hand again. “Ah-Yun, listen to my explanation.”
“I…”
Shi Yun wiped away the tears that had slipped down and shoved Xie Qingyun to the floor. “Look. Even you can’t convince yourself.”
Falling onto the soft rug, Xie Qingyun wanted to explain. She had liked Shi Yu before, but that had only been because she had been deceived by appearances. Time had changed everything. She had long since fallen in love with Shi Yun.
After the divorce, she had regretted it. She wanted to pursue Shi Yun again.
“I wasn’t messing with you. The safe password isn’t what you think it is. Later, I realized that the person I actually liked was you. I tried too, but you didn’t seem to believe me.” A bitter smile appeared. “Then you lost your memory. You forgot about the divorce, and I wanted to let the mistake continue. I…”
Xie Qingyun spoke chaotically, incoherently. In the end, she closed her eyes and waited for the final judgment.
Shi Yun understood, but she did not want to.
“Since we’re already divorced, we’re strangers now. I have nothing else to say. Leave.” Shi Yun took back the divorce certificate, stood up, and issued her final ultimatum.
“No… don’t.” Xie Qingyun immediately got up and rushed forward to grab Shi Yun. “Give me one more chance, all right?”
She had stood up too abruptly. Waves of dizziness accompanied by nausea drained Xie Qingyun of strength. During the pushing and pulling, she failed to stand steady and fell against the coffee table, her lower back striking the corner hard.
“Hiss.”
Along with the sound of porcelain shattering, Xie Qingyun’s face went pale, and she drew in a sharp breath.
The two of them looked over at the same time. It was the vintage tableware that had been used earlier to entertain Zhao Zhilin. Sticky cream clung to the carpet, and broken porcelain shards scattered everywhere.
The red embossed flat plate had red markings that looked like specks of blood. Xie Qingyun’s hand hurt. She lowered her eyes and saw another fresh cut.
Shi Yun glanced at Xie Qingyun, who had fallen sitting on the floor. She did not make a sound and turned to go upstairs.
About five minutes later, Shi Yun appeared at the staircase again, dragging a suitcase. Xie Qingyun was still sitting where she had fallen, dazed.
In the garage, Shi Yun chose a car and put the suitcase into the trunk.
Sitting in the driver’s seat, she thought back to what had just happened and slapped the steering wheel viciously, causing a loud honk.
Once she left that heartbreaking house, her emotions seemed to be left behind there too.
All that remained was disbelief. She was only twenty-four, yet she was already divorced.
After contacting Chen Su, Shi Yun stepped on the gas and drove to Wildfire.
When she arrived at Wildfire, the staff had already started work. She asked the kitchen to cook her a bowl of noodles.
Holding a bowl of plain noodles in scallion oil broth, Shi Yun scrolled through her phone. The mist rising from the bowl made her eyes sting.
The private room door opened. Chen Su was dressed very casually and wearing a pair of slippers. “What happened? Why so sudden?”
Shi Yun lowered her head and slurped her noodles without answering.
Chen Su plopped down beside her and bumped Shi Yun’s shoulder with her own. “What are you doing?”
Shi Yun finally moved a little. She took the divorce certificate out of her bag and placed it on the table, then pointed toward the wine cabinet downstairs. “Pay up.”
Her movements were smooth and decisive, as if she had rehearsed them several times. When Chen Su saw the green divorce certificate on the table, her mouth fell open. “Didn’t you only go back yesterday? You moved this fast?”
She opened the divorce certificate. The date written on it was clearly two months before the car accident.
Chen Su’s eyes widened. “What’s going on?”
Shi Yun took a sip of noodle soup, wiped her mouth, and pushed the bowl aside. “I’d like to ask you that. I don’t remember, but you didn’t know anything either?”
Chen Su scratched her head. “During that period, I was keeping Lu Yi company.”
“Then what are you planning to do now?”
“Help me find a place first. Seeing her annoys me.” The moment Shi Yun mentioned Xie Qingyun, an inexplicable anger rose in her.
“Sure. I happen to have a place that just became empty. Stay in a hotel tonight first, and I’ll have someone send you the keys tomorrow.” Chen Su peeled a tangerine and gave Shi Yun half.
Shi Yun obediently removed the white pith from the tangerine. Just as she was about to put a slice into her mouth, Chen Su heard her say, “We’re already divorced, yet she still dared to kiss me.”
Although Chen Su did not know why, she somehow felt as if a display of affection had been shoved in her face.
“?”
“Are you two trying to scam me out of my wine?”
Shi Yun rolled her eyes. “Do you know what she did?”
Chen Su spread her hands, looking as if she was all ears.
Shi Yun told her everything that had just happened, emphasizing the matter of the safe password at the end.
“Have you ever thought that she set Shi Yu’s birthday precisely because she didn’t want you to guess it?”
Shi Yun froze, then smiled. “From now on, you can sit at the same table as Xie Qingyun.”
“Don’t say you’re my friend.”
Her gaze shifted and landed on the wine cabinet again. Chen Su followed her line of sight. “Fine, fine. One of these days, when everyone’s here and the group is complete, I’ll arrange it for you.”
Shi Yun nodded in satisfaction. “Boss Chen is generous!”
The phone Chen Su had set aside vibrated twice, then a melodious piano piece rang out.
Shi Yun immediately realized it was Lu Yi calling. Chen Su picked up the phone and glanced in her direction, indicating that she would go out to take the call first.
This was the piano piece Lu Yi had played during a school competition back in high school. Chen Su had transcribed the melody and had always used it as Lu Yi’s exclusive ringtone.
Seeing her good friend so happy, Shi Yun sighed.
How had she ended up meeting the wrong person?
A sincere heart had been given to someone who did not know how to treasure it.
Ten minutes later, Chen Su returned to the private room with a lovestruck expression, the sweetness on her face impossible to hide.
As soon as she sat down, her phone lit up again.
Shi Yun teased, “Boss Chen is so busy today.”
The phone’s light reflected on Chen Su’s face. She swiped down twice, and her expression grew more and more solemn.
Seeing this, Shi Yun leaned over to look too. Chen Su reacted quickly, tilting the phone to the other side. The two of them awkwardly stared at each other.
Shi Yun looked at Chen Su for a while, then said faintly, “So now we have secrets between us too?”
Chen Su pressed her lips together. “I feel like you might not want to know.”
“I’m already divorced. What else could there be that I can’t handle?” Shi Yun snatched the phone from Chen Su’s hand.
On the screen was a certain social media app. The headline read: [Xie Qingyun Hospitalized].
Scrolling further down, it started with a photo uploaded by a blogger who had run into Xie Qingyun in the emergency department of a private hospital. In the photo, Xie Qingyun was being carried on a stretcher.
She was wearing an oxygen mask, and her complexion looked terrible.
For a moment, all kinds of opinions spread.
Shi Yun held the phone in a daze.
The person who had been arguing with her just now—how had she ended up in the hospital?
Chen Su spread her hands helplessly. “I told you not to look.”
