After Divorcing My Omega Ex-Wife - Chapter 9
Shi Yun chose the sofa farthest from Xie Qingyun and sat down. Crossing her legs, she propped her elbow on the armrest, rested her chin in her palm, and raised her eyes to look at her. “What? Am I not welcome?”
Qian Can put down the flowers and gave two dry laughs. “You two talk. I’ll go ask the doctor when Qingyun can be discharged.” She nodded at Shi Yun, then slipped out of the ward as if oil had been smeared on the soles of her feet.
Sunlight poured through the window and happened to fall across Shi Yun’s face. For a moment, Xie Qingyun stared in a daze. The script in her hands was held crookedly, and with a tilt of her hand, it fell to the floor.
Both their gazes gathered in the direction where it had fallen. Xie Qingyun glanced at Shi Yun somewhat guiltily.
She had thought that if she invested in Yinian, Shi Yun would definitely come see her. Perhaps Shi Yun’s attitude toward her would even change.
She had not expected her to come so quickly.
She had not prepared herself yet.
Although her methods had not exactly been open and aboveboard, the result was good.
The night before, she had still been thinking that once Shi Yun came, she would viciously mock her for opening her eyes at the sight of money. Or perhaps she would pretend nothing had happened and, like the day before, prepare all of Shi Yun’s favorite foods with eyes full of anticipation.
But after thinking carefully, she could not swallow that resentment—yet she also could not bear to say anything harsh.
So she could only try her best to become softer, and softer still.
The script had fallen to her left side. As it happened, Xie Qingyun’s left hand was hooked up to an IV drip. Shi Yun tilted her head and looked at her.
Her expression seemed to say: Beg me.
Xie Qingyun had just been about to lift the blanket when a pair of hands brought the script before her.
Shi Yun was bending at the waist. Two buttons of her knit top were undone, and the collar had opened slightly, revealing an extremely beautiful collarbone. The thin pendant at her neck had quietly rubbed the skin there red. A Gate of Happiness necklace hung against her smooth neck.
At this moment, it hovered in the air, and farther down was a hidden entrance.
Dark. Deep.
The curved lines made it impossible to see clearly.
The light outside the window shifted by an inch, illuminating the hands reaching toward her.
Xie Qingyun’s heart beat very fast. Between the boundary of light and shadow, just as she reached out and was about to touch the brightness, she was scalded back.
Her cheeks heated. Shi Yun thought she could not reach it and brought the script forward once more, making her neckline fall even lower.
Xie Qingyun immediately turned her head away. From the corner of her eye, she saw the hidden entrance overlap with the Gate of Happiness, and her thoughts were stirred into a complete mess.
The sweet peach scent in the air grew stronger.
“You still can’t reach it?” Shi Yun had been holding it up for ages, and her hand was getting sore, yet Xie Qingyun still had not taken the script. She spoke in annoyance.
Why was she acting like a big shot? This was not a film set.
Shi Yun rolled her eyes inwardly, but when she remembered that this person was a potential investor, she adjusted her temper again.
She silently repeated it ten thousand times in her heart.
This person has money.
This person has money!
This person has money!!
…
Xie Qingyun took the script and casually placed it on the table.
Shi Yun glanced at the cover. Then she switched into a standard smile, blinking with a face full of attentiveness. “About the investment, how are you considering it?”
Xie Qingyun had spent many years struggling through the entertainment industry and had met all kinds of people—some flattering, some slick.
But she was still unused to Shi Yun suddenly being this eager.
That day, she had only raised the idea. There had been an element of impulse in it. She was very afraid that if Zhao Zhilin and Shi Yun had too much contact, it would make it even harder for her and Shi Yun to reconcile.
It was not that she lacked confidence. It was just that when she thought of placing Shi Yun beside someone who was always coveting her, working together every day, she felt sour all over.
She told the truth. “I’m still considering it.”
Shi Yun’s smile froze on her face. Her fingers curled slightly, and for an instant, she almost could not control her micro-expression.
This was not what Chen Su had said at all.
She pressed her lips together and continued maintaining her smile.
Xie Qingyun patted the empty space on her right. “Why don’t you sit here?”
Although it was phrased as a question, it carried an unquestionable tone.
As if, should Shi Yun refuse, the “considering it” from just now would turn into a rejection.
Shi Yun moved a stool over to the left side, about an arm’s length away from the bed.
Xie Qingyun was not very satisfied, but she did not say anything.
Shi Yun sniffed the scent in the air. The sweetness drilled into her nasal cavity. She raised a hand to cover her nose, and even her thoughts became a little more chaotic.
“When did the doctor say you can be discharged?”
“Once my pheromones stabilize.” Xie Qingyun was also distressed. She could not sit still. The moment she thought of the few upcoming jobs waiting for her, she wanted to go into the gym and train properly. These few days in the hospital had suffocated her.
Shi Yun nodded.
She felt somewhat awkward. Thinking that Xie Qingyun might have been hospitalized because of her, a sense of guilt lingered around her.
She did not know what to say, so her gaze wandered everywhere.
Xie Qingyun seemed to see her awkwardness and said quietly, “You used to like keeping me company like this.”
Shi Yun was a little puzzled. Had there ever been such warm moments between them?
Back then, they had just gotten married. Although there had been no emotional foundation, Xie Qingyun did not dislike spending time with Shi Yun.
Their study rooms were in the same place. Xie Qingyun would study scripts on one side, while Shi Yun would sit beside her and watch the new season’s fashion shows.
Occasionally, when Xie Qingyun attended red carpets, Shi Yun could also give her some ideas about makeup and styling.
Only later, everything changed.
Shi Yun laughed awkwardly. “Really?”
Xie Qingyun stared at her, as if trying to find a trace of lingering attachment on Shi Yun’s face.
At first, Shi Yun met her gaze. After two seconds, she could no longer bear that scorching look and moved her eyes away, sweeping her gaze around the ward.
Finally, her eyes landed on the fruit basket on the coffee table. “I’ll peel an apple for you.”
When visiting a patient, peeling an apple was never wrong.
Without waiting for a refusal, Shi Yun quickly got up, walked to the coffee table, and picked a red apple.
After looking around, she sat back in her original seat.
Qian Can had probably placed the trash bin near the bed for Xie Qingyun’s convenience.
Shi Yun’s survival skills were almost maxed out. For her, peeling an apple was a trivial matter, easily handled.
The fruit knife turned round and round, and the apple peel fell like a delicate ribbon.
Her hands pinched the two ends of the apple. Her well-defined fingers moved back and forth a few times, revealing the pale, tender flesh.
She skillfully cut it into a bowl, then turned to wash her hands.
After briefly escaping Xie Qingyun’s side, Shi Yun even felt that the air here was fresher.
It was not that overly sweet, cloying fruit scent.
When she walked back into the ward, she picked up the fruit bowl and handed it to Xie Qingyun. “Try some. Eating more fruit is good for your health.”
Her freshly washed hands had not been completely dried. A few droplets of water still clung to them, and faint blue veins were visible beneath the fair skin of her fingers.
Xie Qingyun felt that they were even more tempting than the fruit she was holding.
She slightly lifted the hand that was still attached to the IV. “Baby, feed me.”
Shi Yun’s eyes widened. She glanced at Xie Qingyun’s right hand, her gaze clearly saying, Isn’t this hand perfectly fine?
After half a second, she finally realized what Xie Qingyun had called her. Her hand trembled slightly. In a fluster, she set the bowl down, and her face instantly became the same kind as the apple from earlier.
Her entire face was hot and burning.
Even the roots of her ears were not spared.
“You, you…”
“What did you just call me…”
Xie Qingyun understood her gaze.
She lifted her other hand again. There was still the needle mark from yesterday’s IV on it. Perhaps because she had not stayed still while the IV was running, a large bruise had formed.
Shi Yun glanced at the back of her hand from the corner of her eye and frowned slightly. “Just this once.”
The heat from that one “baby” had not yet faded, and even her whole heart was trembling.
Shi Yun could not help lamenting inwardly at how useless she was. She was already in her twenties, yet a single “baby” from her ex-wife could still shake her mind.
Had Xie Qingyun only called her that, here and now, or had she called others that too?
The thought that suddenly popped up startled her. Why did she care who Xie Qingyun had called that before?
Clearly, it was Xie Qingyun who was frivolous, flirting like this even with an ex.
After calming down, the ambiguous feeling from the beginning was gone. Shi Yun speared a piece of apple and brought it to Xie Qingyun’s lips.
Perhaps because she had not slept well in the hospital, Xie Qingyun’s lips were peeling. The moment they touched the moist apple, the moisture spread across her lips.
Xie Qingyun had only been boldly testing her earlier. She had not expected Shi Yun to actually feed the apple to her mouth. It would be a lie to say she was not excited.
She opened her mouth, her teeth gently biting down on the apple, taking only a small piece.
Holding it in her mouth, the taste of apple spread through her mouth.
It was very sweet.
But not as sweet as the feeling in her heart.
Shi Yun granted her every request.
This gave her a sense of control. Perhaps by borrowing her identity as a patient, she could be a little bolder.
She bit off the rest of the apple in one mouthful and raised her right hand to take away the fork.
Shi Yun stared somewhat blankly at the series of movements, and her hand did not pull back.
The next second.
Xie Qingyun stuck out her tongue and licked Shi Yun’s fingertip. In the instant Shi Yun froze, Xie Qingyun took her fingertip into her mouth.
The warm mouth wrapped around her finger.
That strange sensation made Shi Yun unable to move for a moment. Her whole body stiffened in place.
What exactly was she doing?
The different sensations were like a bell being struck. One second, the mallet had just touched the bell wall; the next, it floated back into the air.
Warm, slightly rough lips rubbed back and forth.
A faintly cool wind came in through the window, adding another layer to it.
She felt Xie Qingyun’s tongue lick her fingertip again.
It was as if a pot of water had been poured into her heart, leaving it unsettled and swaying back and forth.
She actually did not feel disgusted.
Instead, there was even a trace of anticipation, anticipating what would happen next.
Xie Qingyun suddenly let go and said with a smiling expression, “Sweeter than the apple.”
She prepared to pull Shi Yun’s hand closer again, ready to repeat the action from just now.
Shi Yun abruptly came back to herself and withdrew her hand as if she had been electrocuted.
She could barely control herself. Her body was even hotter than her face had been just now. She did not want to admit that Xie Qingyun had stirred a trace of desire in her.
She smelled the faint green sandalwood scent that belonged only to her.
She quickly stood and strode into the bathroom, slamming the door shut with a bang.
Tucking her hair behind her ear, she turned on the faucet, lowered her head, cupped a handful of water, and splashed it onto her face.
The cold water hit her face, neutralizing the heat on her cheeks. The sensation of taking a cold shower and letting it carry away the heat from her whole body returned.
After splashing herself several more times, she gained a brief moment of clarity. When she raised her head again, the person in the mirror had wet hair sticking messily to her face.
Some strands had been soaked into thin locks. She pulled out a few face towels and wiped her face haphazardly.
She raised the finger that had just been taken into Xie Qingyun’s mouth, examining it from the front and then the back.
Finally, imitating Xie Qingyun, she took the same finger into her own mouth.
Liar.
Where was it sweet?
