The entire floor seemed utterly quiet.
At Mu Xiao’s insistence, she walked at the very front to lead the way, while Yi Sheng also received one of Mu Xiao’s tennis rackets and walked at the very back.
The group of four tried their best to soften their breathing and footsteps, quietly moving toward the right.
The electricity was still being supplied, so the whole floor was brightly lit. Because of that, bloodstains and mangled limbs could occasionally be seen on the walls and floor.
This was far more impactful than seeing things from afar in the apartment stairwell or on the street.
With a deathly pale face, Mu Xiao carefully avoided those mottled traces as much as possible. After only a few steps, they smoothly reached the nurses’ station.
The nurses’ station was a space enclosed by desks and cabinets on three sides, with its back against the wall. There were no zombies inside. Mu Xiao made a hand gesture to the people behind her, guarded the entrance there, and let An Qi, Ling Qi, and the others go in first. Only then did she enter last.
Once inside this nurses’ station, which barely counted as an independent space, Mu Xiao sat down against the desk cabinet and rubbed An Qi’s head.

“Don’t move!” Mu Xiao almost instinctively reached out and pressed down hard on Yi Sheng’s shoulder, temporarily preventing him from moving. At the same time, she lowered her voice and squeezed those two words out from between her teeth.
Yi Sheng’s emotions were especially obvious. From astonishment at Mu Xiao stopping him, he quickly turned to dissatisfaction and anger, but then it all sank into silence.
“There’s no time,” Mu Xiao said to him.
Almost the instant Mu Xiao’s words fell, the crying turned into a scream, then stopped abruptly. The whole thing had lasted no more than two or three seconds.

The fresh smell of blood made them continue wandering inside the ward, trying to search for a possible next prey.

After saying this, Mu Xiao quietly climbed out from the nurses’ station, lowered her body, and moved along the wall toward that ward.
However, just as Mu Xiao finally managed to reach the ward entrance, a zombie slowly swayed out from inside.
Mu Xiao’s heart lurched. Almost instantly, she made a decision. She stepped to the doorway, lifted her leg, and kicked the zombie back into the room.
Ear-piercing roars immediately sounded from inside the room. A dense, dark mass surged toward the doorway.
Mu Xiao’s heart was beating wildly. She forced herself to restrain the instinct to run away, then reached out and slammed the sliding door shut with a bang. She inserted the key into the lock and turned it twice.
This was the first time Mu Xiao felt that the sound of a door lock turning was so pleasant.
The door trembled under the zombies’ pounding from inside. Mu Xiao pulled her hand back as if she had been electrocuted, looked around, then turned and leaped back toward the nurses’ station in a few steps. Her wildly pounding heart had not yet calmed, and she was still panting with excitement.
“Done. Let’s hurry and find her!”
After saying that, she strode toward An Ming’s office.
As soon as she opened the door, Mu Xiao almost slammed headfirst into a zombie inside the office.
She hurriedly swept the tennis racket toward the zombie’s head, but just before it hit, she turned the racket face and used the flat surface to knock the zombie to the ground.
