After I Woke Up to Find I Had a Wife - Chapter 24
“Lin You, your bonding heat is here?”
Fu Xinran, her face flushed, threw that sentence at Lin You, blasting her into dizziness.
“R-really? Why don’t I feel anything?” Lin You looked at Fu Xinran blankly and stammered.
Fu Xinran pushed her away and leaned against the car window by herself. She reached out and opened the partition behind the car seats. “Uncle Li, ask the people at the old residence how the preparations are going.”
“Madam, don’t worry. Everything has already been prepared. We’ll arrive soon.” Uncle Li drove steadily, eyes straight ahead. He himself was a Beta and was insensitive to pheromones, but he could still feel the pressure.
Fortunately, they had already entered Mount Li. The entire Mount Li belonged to the Lin family. All the checkpoints on the road had been opened. Uncle Li sped up, and the journey was smooth. They soon arrived at the old residence.
Lin You shrank her shoulders pitifully and hugged a throw pillow. Imitating Fu Xinran, she leaned against the car window, her bright, spirited eyes misty as she looked at Fu Xinran, trying to make her soften.
Fu Xinran closed her eyes with a headache. She did not want to soften at all. If they made a joke of themselves later, it would be terrible. The gland at the back of her neck near her shoulder was heating up in waves. The clear, cold aura of a snowy mountain was cool and crisp, stirring the bitterness of the tea fragrance. It was as if tea had been brewed with cold spring water, producing a flavor of its own.
Lin You only felt so wronged. So, so wronged. She wanted to find a place to crawl into and cry loudly, but she could not. She could only shrink into herself inside the car.
The car stopped. Lin You leaned against the window and lifted her head slightly. Then she heard Uncle Li say, “Madam, Family Head, we’ve arrived. Everyone else has been cleared out. Please move inside, Family Head and Madam.”
“Mm.” Fu Xinran glanced over. She knew that because Lin You’s bonding heat had come far too early, nesting behavior might appear—the moment of seeking comfort from a partner. If Lin You had never bonded with her before, perhaps suppressants would have worked.
But now that the bonding heat had come early, suppressants might not necessarily be effective.
She should have thought of it. When an Alpha’s bonding heat was about to arrive, their emotions fluctuated between strong and weak, and they would become much more fragile.
The faint tea fragrance still lingered at the tip of her nose. Fu Xinran said softly, “Let’s go. Back to the room first.” She needed to use pheromones to soothe Lin You, otherwise she was afraid Lin You would cry.
The aggrieved Lin You was like a little wife. “Oh.” With lowered brows and obedient eyes, she stuck behind Fu Xinran, her fingers hooking onto Fu Xinran’s clothes. Several times, her foot moved too quickly and nearly tripped Fu Xinran.
After being kicked in the heel again, Fu Xinran helplessly turned around. She reached out, pulled the person stuck to her back to her side, and wrapped her slightly cool fingers around Lin You’s broad, slender hand.
Lin You tilted her head happily and gave Fu Xinran a sweet smile. Both her eyes were full of joy, making others feel shy just looking at her.
Fu Xinran walked forward without changing expression. With one hand, she lifted her ink-black hair, revealing one crimson ear tip.
When they reached the room door, Fu Xinran stopped. She turned and glanced at the person who was still secretly peeking at her. When Lin You saw Fu Xinran’s gaze drift over, she immediately turned her head to look at the sky and the ground—anywhere but at her.
Fu Xinran looked at the message Zhuo An had sent on her phone:
Madam Lin, the nesting period is one of the rarest special periods for an Alpha. At this time, if you seize the opportunity and leave a brand on Lin You’s body, it may soothe her to the greatest extent.
The only effect is that you will need to be marked by Lin You again. Considering that you are currently pregnant, this is truly regrettable. But this is also an opportunity. The nesting period may never appear again in the future.
Fu Xinran understood Doctor Zhuo’s suggestion. But just as she had said, Fu Xinran was currently in the early stage of pregnancy. If even the slightest thing went wrong, it might have a huge impact on the child.
Lin You felt as if her mind were drunk to just the right degree—not sober, not drunk. Her head was not muddled, but she just felt very happy, so happy that she wanted to go out for a run. Hehe.
“Lower your head.”
Inside the room, Lin You sat properly on the bed, honestly following Fu Xinran’s instructions. She lowered her head and let Fu Xinran work around her pheromone gland.
Fu Xinran tore off Lin You’s blocking patch. Then she lifted the long hair at the back of her own neck and simply tore off her own blocking patch as well.
A large wave of bitter, astringent tea fragrance mixed with a hint of sweetness rushed toward her. What answered it was a clear coldness, clean and transparent, like tea leaves brewed in cold spring water. The tea leaves slowly unfurled when they met the water.
Lin You lifted her neck and comfortably narrowed her eyes as she leaned backward. Fu Xinran reflexively reached out and grabbed Lin You’s clothes, but she was brought down with Lin You and fell onto her body.
Warm hands forcefully held the beauty who had fallen onto her. Lin You felt she was about to ascend into immortality, floating and dizzy.
Fu Xinran bit her lip and glared in embarrassed annoyance at the person smiling foolishly at her. She worked hard to keep her reason and slowly moved her pheromones closer to Lin You’s gland.
Lin You rubbed against the blue-green blanket. She felt that her back was a little itchy. So hot. She kept rubbing her head against the blanket.
Sensing something, Fu Xinran’s body stiffened. “Don’t move.” She scolded Lin You in a low voice.
Lin You instantly felt wronged, her voice carrying a sob. “But I’m itchy.”
Fu Xinran bit her lip, her eyes rippling with shyness and anger as she glared at her. Lin You no longer dared to speak and could only pout while looking at the woman with slightly messy hair and flushed cheeks.
Too beautiful.
So beautiful that under natural reaction, her body responded. Fu Xinran hurriedly climbed off Lin You.
“Behave yourself. Get up and sit properly. Otherwise, I’m leaving, and you can sleep alone in the room.” Fu Xinran stood ten meters away and threatened her.
Lin You blinked. A gust of wind passed. Fu Xinran only saw a black shadow rushing over. Before she could react, her body had already been pulled into someone’s arms, being rubbed against and hugged.
It was like a big dog seeing a toy bear, eyes sparkling, only wanting to rub against it and lick it.
“Lin You.” Fu Xinran withdrew the expression on her face and looked coldly at the person who still wanted to rub against her. With both hands, she grabbed Lin You’s ears and pulled backward.
“Awoo…”
A long cry of pain rang out. The people moving luggage downstairs all heard it. Everyone raised their heads and looked upstairs. The old butler’s face darkened. “What are you looking at? Hurry up and work.”
After being yelled at by the old butler’s rough voice, everyone quickly withdrew their gazes and worked efficiently. Only Doctor Zhuo, who was hugging her golden retriever, smiled in a profound and hidden way.
“Today, the common folk are truly, truly happy…”
“Woof, woof…”
“Our Lucy is still the clever one, even knowing how to follow the next line.”
Lin You covered her ears and especially pitifully shrank into the corner of the bed. She was wronged, but she would not say it.
Fu Xinran sat on the bed with a cold, beautiful face, reading the guide Zhuo An had sent on how to soothe a partner in the nesting period.
Under normal circumstances, nesting period and bonding heat would not appear at the same time. If they did, one must remember: the partner must take the initiative and suppress the person, or else many partners would be unable to get out of bed for the next three days.
After that came a guide that could not be written on JJWXC—scientific, standardized, and practically meaningful.
Fu Xinran beckoned at the person crouched in the corner. Lin You saw it, then shrank her head back and pretended not to see, seriously staring at the blanket in front of her.
Fu Xinran held her forehead with a headache and lowered her voice a few degrees to soothe her. “Come here. I’ll take a look for you. I won’t pull your ears anymore.”
Lin You pouted and tentatively moved a tiny step, checking whether she really would not do anything. Seeing Fu Xinran sitting on the bed, still gentle and warm, she suddenly got up, climbed onto the bed, and pressed Fu Xinran into her arms in just a few movements.
Fu Xinran followed Lin You’s movements and did not struggle. She gently pulled up Lin You’s hand and placed it on her lower abdomen. She only told Lin You softly, “You can’t move too much, or you’ll scare the baby. She’s still very, very small.”
Regaining a bit of reason, Lin You pulled herself out of that wandering, immersive intoxication. She bared her teeth and spoke, tears falling like a macho man crying. Her tears dripped onto Fu Xinran’s arm. “Did I hurt you?”
“No. Does it feel terrible? Do you really want to seek comfort?” Fu Xinran held Lin You’s hand and comforted her.
“Mm.” That thick nasal voice almost made Fu Xinran laugh, but she also felt a little heartache. This was the first time she had seen the ever-noble Lin You cry.
Fu Xinran turned around in Lin You’s arms and faced Lin You, whose eyes were red. She straightened up and let Lin You circle her. She herself carefully cupped Lin You’s face, and a warm, shy kiss fell beside Lin You’s lips.
“Mission Three completed. Reward: 500 points.”
The system’s abrupt voice made Lin You sober up a little.
Feeling the soft, delicate lips on her face, Lin You, who had sobered for only a moment, immediately became dizzy again. The smile on her face could no longer be stopped. Under that smile, the tears that had originally gathered in her eyes slid down directly.
She was both cute and heartbreaking, like a child who had cried endlessly and then received their beloved toy, starting to smile before the tears had even dried.
Fu Xinran also could not help laughing loudly, laughing until her body shook as she leaned in Lin You’s arms. She was truly too cute.
Lin You also grinned and foolishly laughed along. The affection between them slowly grew. Their pheromones quickly blended together. Fu Xinran gave up the opportunity to brand Lin You.
A brand was like a mark. Once branded, the only pheromone comfort Lin You could accept would be Fu Xinran’s.
But Fu Xinran gave it up because of the child in her belly. She could not take even the slightest risk. If Lin You felt uncomfortable, then so be it. Fu Xinran could still use her own pheromones to slowly guide Lin You’s pheromones away.
Judging from the person who, even now, was only hugging her and had not crossed half a step beyond that, she knew that even if she soothed Lin You, Lin You would not go too far.
The clean, piercing scent of a snowy mountain intoxicated Lin You. She felt her body was so swollen, so hot she could barely stand it. Fortunately, that cold, clear icy air relieved her restlessness.
Her flushed face steamed with heat. The discomfort in her body disappeared quite a lot. Lin You gradually regained her reason. Looking at the person sleeping in her arms, she felt the urge to pee.
Gently laying Fu Xinran down, she realized the room’s arrangement was different. It seemed they had already arrived at the old residence on Mount Li.
This residence was the ancestral home passed down through generations of the Lin family. Only the family head could inherit and live in it. It was guarded year-round. Every year during festivals, members of the Lin family would return to worship their ancestors.
The scenery here was very good, and the air was pleasant. Sometimes, elders from the older generation would recuperate and nurse their health in the other courtyards near the old residence.
Following her memories, Lin You found the bathroom. Looking at the big bulge in her pants, she truly wanted to cry but had no tears. Was this bonding heat? It felt like having a wet dream. Too hard.
Thinking of Fu Xinran’s first bonding heat attack, she felt fortunate. Fortunately, she had endured it and had not harmed Fu Xinran or created any improper trauma. Otherwise, she would truly only be able to apologize with death.
If she hurt the child, even without mentioning what Ranran would do, Lin You herself would not forgive herself.
Lin You wiped the sweat from her forehead and breathed a sigh of relief.
Before that breath could settle, her memory suddenly returned to the version of herself who had just cried, fussed, and acted spoiled. Lin You petrified. In her previous life, aside from crying when she was little, when had she ever cried after bleeding or getting injured? At most, she had groaned once.
Her lifetime of heroic reputation had been—awoo—completely destroyed by the original body’s body.
Lin You punched the wall in shame and anger. She simply had no face to see people anymore. The heat on her face would not go down.
She would never admit that she had actually cried because Fu Xinran would not hug her. She did not know that person. That was all the original body’s fault. She would not take the blame!
The warmth on the tips of her ears seemed to still have two soft hands pinching and rubbing them.
Lin You bit her lip, her face full of spring feeling. The reaction below her body quickly proved that she was a healthy Alpha.
The rushing sound of water woke Fu Xinran from sleep. She opened her phone. It was already seven at night.
