After I Woke Up to Find I Had a Wife - Chapter 7
After a whole busy day, Lin You returned home wanting only to lie down and not move.
Only when she sprawled out in the bedroom could she relax a little.
She had listened to reports all morning and signed documents all afternoon. Heaven, without the system tomorrow, how was she supposed to survive?
Fu Xinran had turned down several invitations today and peacefully stayed home to nurture the baby.
In the morning, she had followed Aunt Gui in looking at baby clothes, shoes, and hats. By now, they had already ordered more than ten sets of baby clothes.
“Host, you need to be more natural,” the system circled above Lin You’s back and nagged.
“Sorry, it’s my first time acting. Please be more understanding,” Lin You retorted weakly.
Knock, knock.
A knock sounded at the door. Lin You turned her head with difficulty and saw the woman standing by the doorway with her arms folded.
When Fu Xinran saw how exhausted Lin You looked, worry flashed through her eyes. But her expression remained cool and distant, and her tone was not exactly gentle as she asked, “Are you feeling unwell?”
Lin You sniffed and nodded with difficulty, then flopped back onto the blanket. She felt like her head hurt badly.
Fu Xinran fell silent for a moment. She had not expected Lin You to actually answer.
“Host, I’m going to upgrade now. Good luck.” The mechanical voice was full of blessings.
Lin You did not want to move. When would days like this end? She completely could not understand what that group of elites were saying. There were piles of documents she could not understand. Without the system’s guidance, she would definitely expose herself tomorrow.
In a daze, Lin You seemed to hear someone speaking. A strange voice vaguely appeared beside her ear.
“Group affairs aren’t difficult. Think carefully. How did you do it? Try hard to remember.”
How could they not be difficult!!!
After a whole day, Lin You still had not thoroughly and fully understood just how enormous the Lin Group’s business empire was.
Its businesses involved shopping plazas, high-end hotels, culture and entertainment companies, real estate, computer networks, hospitals, schools, and so on. And that was not even all of it.
Lin You refused to believe the voice that was fooling her. She only wanted to sleep quietly. Ideally, no one would bother her again. She just wanted to remain a salted fish like this until the end of time.
Hearing Lin You’s rejection, the blurry voice merely laughed softly and sighed. “How nostalgic.”
Fu Xinran saw that Lin You had stopped moving. After standing at the door for a while, she still stepped forward to check. Seeing that Lin You’s face was full of exhaustion and that she had already fallen asleep, Fu Xinran bent down and took off her slippers for her. Then she pulled up the blanket and covered her with it before gently closing the door and going downstairs.
“Aunt Gui, let’s make dinner half an hour later. Lin You is very tired today. Let her rest for a while.” Her cool voice carried a trace of concern.
This made Aunt Gui so happy inside that she wanted to burst into song. Today was another good day; everything she wished for could come true!
“All right. Madam, whenever you say we eat, that’s when we’ll eat. Come, let’s sit down. Don’t tire our Madam out.” Aunt Gui happily supported the somewhat unnatural Fu Xinran and led her toward the sofa.
Fu Xinran’s ears turned red again. She felt rather uncomfortable and wanted to pull her hand back. Aunt Gui was truly too enthusiastic. Even after more than a year, she still had not gotten used to it.
“Think carefully again. Think about it properly.”
The ethereal voice made Lin You furrow her brows.
Suddenly, the scene reversed. Lin You abruptly found herself standing in a corner, watching as the surroundings around her changed rapidly.
All sorts of people passed by her as if someone had pressed fast-forward. From double speed, to four times speed, to eight times speed—eventually, she could no longer see clearly. But various memories appeared in her mind.
Some scenes flashed by, yet she could clearly know where each scene came from and why it had happened.
“Top Student Lin, what do you want to differentiate into in the future?” A girl with a small ponytail, wearing her school uniform in a sloppy manner, sprawled lazily on the desk.
Lin You raised her head blankly and looked at the little girl lying on the desk. “I want to differentiate into a Beta.” In that instant, a sentence flashed through her mind, and Lin You looked at the girl as she murmured her answer.
The scene changed again…
“Mom knows you wanted to be a Beta, but the differentiation results are already out. Youyou, you need to learn to accept yourself.” A woman even colder than Lin You coldly told her this fact.
It was as if Lin You were watching a movie, rapidly watching the first half of someone’s life.
Buzz…
A long, thin, distant rumble instantly woke Lin You.
She suddenly lifted her head and propped herself up with her arms, gasping twice. Hiss, it was so numb. She had lain on her stomach for too long, and her neck hurt too. Lin You turned over and lay on the bed.
“I don’t know what kind of dream I had. It kept flipping back and forth, but once I woke up, I couldn’t remember it. Was it a daydream?” Lin You collapsed on the bed and randomly groped around. When she picked up her phone and looked at it, it was almost seven.
She had slept for almost an hour. Lin You turned over and got out of bed, her mind still thinking about the long string of dreams she had just had. It had been very long, but she could not remember what she had dreamed about.
Downstairs, the chef finished the last dish, wiped his hands, and plated it nicely. A perfect mixed lobster dish was done.
There were still five dishes and one soup on the table. The moment Lin You stepped out of the elevator, she smelled the fragrance. Fu Xinran also happened to stand up, intending to go upstairs and call her for dinner.
“Thank you,” Lin You quietly said to Fu Xinran. When she woke up, the blanket had been properly covering her back. One look was enough to know that some considerate person had helped cover her.
Fu Xinran’s brows moved slightly, and she gave a neither light nor heavy “Mm” before sitting at the dining table.
Although the Lin family did not maintain the habit of not speaking while eating or sleeping, Lin You had only transmigrated here yesterday. She did not know what to say and did not want to ruin the original body’s persona.
The original body was not someone who liked talking. Or maybe that was not right. Lin You paused. The original body seemed to like talking quite a lot, didn’t she?
How did she know that? The book had not written it. Lin You swallowed a mouthful of rice in confusion. Mm, maybe she was muddled from sleep.
Because of certain reasons, Fu Xinran was extremely sensitive to someone’s emotional changes. Lin You was eating absentmindedly and had picked up ginger several times. Lin You never ate ginger at night.
Fu Xinran had been paying attention to Lin You in private.
“One more bowl of rice.” Lin You handed her bowl to the servant standing nearby.
Actually, she was not used to this. But yesterday, when she had taken the initiative to go get more rice, the servant serving beside her had thought they had done something wrong and repeatedly asked about it.
Today, although Lin You was still not used to it, she did not disturb someone else’s work. Yes, this was work. She had not yet adapted to the corrupt lifestyle of wealthy families.
Lin You covered her face. She would probably adapt soon.
The life of a rich person was good in every way except that work was extremely busy.
Hearing Lin You ask for more rice, Fu Xinran was also a little surprised. In the past, Lin You never took a second serving of rice. She always ate only until she was seventy percent full and was extremely self-disciplined.
Aunt Gui, however, was gratified. “That’s right, Youyou. You should eat until you’re full. You work so hard every day, and you eat too little. Your body has become much thinner. You need to eat more so your nutrition can keep up.”
Lin You nodded. Seeing that Fu Xinran had barely taken a few bites and was about to put down her bowl and leave the table, Lin You hurriedly picked up the serving chopsticks and put food into Fu Xinran’s bowl. She also started nagging.
“You should eat more. The baby is developing quickly. If you don’t eat more, the baby will take your nutrition. When your nutrition can’t keep up, you’ll be the one who feels uncomfortable.”
Fu Xinran stared blankly at the person busy putting food in her bowl. The great head of the Lin family was being too considerate. She was a little unused to it.
“Stop looking at me. Hurry and eat.” Lin You pushed the bowl to Fu Xinran’s hand and stared at her as she ate.
After dinner, Lin You tidied up a little, then pulled Fu Xinran, who was sitting on the sofa, to watch TV with her.
After switching back and forth through several channels, Lin You finally chose a cartoon. “Prenatal education should start from childhood,” Lin You said to Fu Xinran without blinking.
Fu Xinran: “…”
The child was only the size of a soybean and did not even have ears to listen with.
Cough. Seeing Fu Xinran’s unconvinced gaze, Lin You turned her head and pretended not to see it. This cartoon was quite good.
It was even produced by a company under the Lin family. At the very least, she had to understand it a little.
The fastest way to understand a world was to watch television.
Fu Xinran was too lazy to bother with her. It did not matter what they watched. She closed her eyes and leaned against the sofa.
Sure enough, staying at home did not suit her very well. Tomorrow, she should return to the studio.
Fu Xinran had a small studio under her. She liked design. Her studio did not have many employees, only around twenty young people.
With unique designs, they remained low-key and mysterious, accepting only private orders.
It was a rather meaningful cartoon. It told the story of a person who had never stopped to experience the present moment. Because of an accident, their soul left their body, and they saw a different world.
After watching for half an hour, Lin You had already guessed the later plot. The contents were all more or less the same kind of life insight. It was not very interesting.
After sitting for half an hour, Lin You pulled Fu Xinran to the small garden for a walk.
“Don’t sit around all day when you’re at home either. Occasionally, you still need to get up and walk around properly. That way, it won’t hurt as much when you give birth.” Lin You looked at Fu Xinran and seriously reminded her.
Fu Xinran’s eyes moved, and she silently nodded. Then she turned her head and walked ahead first. Lin You strode after her, staying half a step behind Fu Xinran. This way, no matter what happened, she could react in time and protect Fu Xinran.
Fu Xinran glanced out of the corner of her eye at the person looking around everywhere while carefully following behind her. The corners of her lips curled into a smile.
Her pale lake-blue eyes seemed like water. Under the warm yellow lights, they were moist and elegant, deep and graceful. When Lin You accidentally saw them, her heart swayed, and her little heart jumped around like a startled deer.
The evening breeze teased the leaves, causing them to sway in tiny movements. The tree shadows were mottled.
Their two figures, one in front and one behind, stretched very long.
Even after returning to the bedroom, Lin You’s heart had not calmed down. From the first glance, she had known Fu Xinran was beautiful.
Cold and noble, like the beauty of a snow-capped mountain—yearned for yet unreachable. A faint, clear charm added another trace of beauty to her.
Such a beautiful person actually could not compare to the original body’s white moonlight. That was unscientific.
Standing under the shower, Lin You was calm this time. After more contact, her psychological burden had disappeared.
After interacting for a while longer, maybe it would feel no different from pork.
After showering and blow-drying her hair, Lin You yawned and lay down on the bed. Working overtime was impossible. She was not a masochist. She wanted to watch TV! Sleep!
Fu Xinran came out of the bathroom and casually wrapped her hair in a towel. She stepped into the bedroom and lowered her head to look for her phone.
After watching Fu Xinran walk back and forth several times, Lin You could not help asking, “What are you looking for? Why not dry your hair first?”
“My phone,” Fu Xinran said, then said nothing else.
Lin You took out her own phone, found Fu Xinran’s number, and tapped to call it.
After half a day, there was still no sound. Seeing that Fu Xinran had not found it and was planning to go out to look again, Lin You could not take it anymore. She directly threw back the blanket and grabbed Fu Xinran, who was about to walk out.
“Sit here. Your hair isn’t even dry, and you’re running around everywhere. What if you catch a cold?”
“Are you yelling at me?” Fu Xinran sat on the stool and looked up at Lin You coldly.
Lin You’s scalp went numb. In a very small voice, she said, “I’m not. I was worried about you.”
“I don’t want you to care. Move. I’m going to look for my phone.” Fu Xinran let out a delicate humph, pushed Lin You away, and tried to walk out again.
Lin You reached out and directly hugged her, pressing her back onto the stool. She glared hard at the willful person.
“After I dry your hair, I’ll help you look for it.”
