After the Fake Young Master Ran Away with His Child, the Villain Went Crazy - Chapter 10
Yan Yi He cut off a large piece of venison, enough for the two of them. Then he casually broke off several stalks of grass and twisted them into a rope. He threaded the rope through the venison and hung the meat behind the quiver, letting Jing Ruan carry the quiver as they walked back.
The smell of blood would soon attract other large animals. When Jing Ruan had climbed halfway up the ladder, he heard the roar of animals. He turned back to look and discovered that two wild wolves had started fighting over the food.
Jing Ruan was so frightened that he shuddered. His right foot slipped off the rung, and it was Yan Yi He, who was following behind him, who supported his right foot with his hand, letting Jing Ruan step on his palm so he did not fall.
Jing Ruan turned back to look at Yan Yi He. Yan Yi He’s gaze was very calm, without the slightest dissatisfaction or blame. It was as if he could tolerate all things in the world, and also tolerate every mistake and every unbearable part of Jing Ruan.
Jing Ruan quietly said sorry, then continued climbing upward. As he climbed, Jing Ruan’s heart beat very fast.
Perhaps it was because he was afraid Yan Yi He would blame him, or perhaps it was because it had been too dangerous. His heart could not calm down for a long time.
After the two of them climbed back up, Yan Yi He found new clothes, and the two took turns washing up in the bathroom and changing into them. The clothes stored here were all in Yan Yi He’s size. They were very large on Jing Ruan, so he rolled up the sleeves and pant legs several times.
Yan Yi He washed the venison clean, cut it into thin slices, and directly roasted the meat with a blowtorch. After roasting it, he sprinkled salt over the top.
The two sat near the wooden cabin, each with a plate of venison in front of them.
The venison tasted ordinary. Yan Yi He was not a chef and did not know how to cook. His skill was limited to making sure the meat was cooked through. Fortunately, Jing Ruan had been so hungry in the past that he had eaten all kinds of things, so he did not feel there was anything he could not swallow.
At that moment, the brooch on Yan Yi He’s chest suddenly rang twice.
Holding his plate, Jing Ruan turned his head to look at the place where the sound had come from.
“Mr. Yan, several old gentlemen have matters they wish to discuss with you.”
“I understand. In one hour, have them wait for me in the study.”
Yan Yi He touched the eagle’s eye and ended the conversation. He speared a piece of venison from his plate with his fork, then turned his head to ask Jing Ruan,
“How does it taste? Is it good?”
Jing Ruan said it was not tasty, but it was not bad either.
After the two finished lunch, Jing Ruan washed the plates. Once he finished, Yan Yi He took him away from the place by helicopter. The helicopter flew back to the manor, and Yan Yi He asked Jing Ruan whether he wanted someone to send him home, or whether he wanted to come along with him.
Jing Ruan thought about it. He felt he did not want to separate yet. It was not even evening, so he said he wanted to go with him.
Yan Yi He strode ahead. Jing Ruan had to jog to keep up. He followed Yan Yi He to his residence. As soon as Yan Yi He entered the main doors, he instructed the servants to find Jing Ruan a set of clothes that fit him.
After saying this, Yan Yi He went upstairs and disappeared from sight.
Jing Ruan was led by a servant to another place. This place held all of Yan Yi He’s clothes from childhood to adulthood. The servant chose a set according to size and gave Jing Ruan something that fit.
After Jing Ruan changed, the servant led him to the door of Mr. Yan’s study, then withdrew on their own. During the entire process, the servant did not say a single word.
The study door was left slightly ajar. Jing Ruan did not know whether he should go in. No one had told him about this either, so Jing Ruan first quietly pushed the door open a little, then stuck his head inside to see what was going on.
Yan Yi He was brewing tea. Seeing Jing Ruan acting sneakily, he beckoned for him to come in. Jing Ruan walked over.
“I’ll be discussing matters later. Find a place to hide by yourself and don’t let anyone discover you.”
Yan Yi He handed him a cup of tea. In truth, he had only said this to tease Jing Ruan. After all, if Jing Ruan truly could not listen, Yan Yi He would not have let the servant bring him in.
Jing Ruan held the small teacup and looked around at the study’s layout. He discovered that the study was filled with books and documents. Hiding a living, breathing person here without being discovered would be somewhat difficult.
Jing Ruan thought about it, then looked at the desk in front of him. He walked to Yan Yi He’s side, crouched down, and crawled under the desk.
“I’ll hide here.”
Jing Ruan said, looking into Yan Yi He’s eyes.
Yan Yi He did not express any opinion. This was the small study normally used for discussions. It was a small space, after all, not the large study used for formally receiving guests, so there were few places to hide a person. Jing Ruan choosing this spot could be considered the safest place within sight.
A few seconds later, someone knocked lightly at the door.
“Mr. Yan, the guests have arrived.”
A servant passed the message from the doorway.
“Invite them in.”
Yan Yi He sat in the chair. Before long, the study door opened, and four people entered. These four were surnamed Chen, Yan, Dou, and Jiang respectively. They were all from families attached to the Yan family.
“Mr. Yan, a new force has emerged in the south recently. At first, it was only small disturbances. Later, Yan Chengnan and I went to take a look, and only then did we discover that this force has actually existed for a year already. One-fifth of the territory in the south has been eaten away.”
Chen Shi said.
The Yan family’s long-standing goal had always been to control the economic lifeline of this world. The place they currently occupied was already completely under their control. At present, they were expanding toward the south, but it had not been very smooth at first. There were always people obstructing them.
After Yan Yi He’s arrangements, they had finally overcome the difficulties and proceeded smoothly. Yet unexpectedly, less than two years after things began going smoothly, something like this happened. When they investigated further, they discovered this matter.
The other side’s speed was startling. They had the Yan family as their backing, so no matter what they did, most of the time everything went smoothly. Yet unexpectedly, a force that had appeared out of nowhere had managed, right under their noses, to eat away one-fifth of the territory on their plate within a year.
“Send another group of people over and test their background. To catch thieves, first catch the king. Find a way to investigate clearly who the boss of this force is. Once you’ve figured it out, choose a time, and I’ll have Yan Qian go talk to them.”
Yan Yi He said.
When Yan Chengnan heard Yan Yi He say he would send Yan Qian over, he hesitated in his heart, but in the end, he said nothing.
After Yan Yi He finished speaking, he seemed to remember something else. He looked at Yan Chengnan and said,
“I remember President Yan has another son, named Yan Jin. I heard his abilities are quite good. Why not give him a chance this time too, and let Yan Qian take him along to handle matters?”
Yan Chengnan could not figure out what Yan Yi He was thinking. In the past, he had mentioned Yan Jin to Yan Yi He many times, both openly and indirectly, wanting Yan Yi He to value Yan Jin. In his heart, he had also formed the idea of replacing Yan Qian and sending Yan Jin to Yan Yi He’s side instead.
But every time, Yan Yi He had not taken up the topic.
He had thought Yan Yi He did not agree to this matter, so he stopped bringing it up. Why had his attitude suddenly changed this time?
Stormy waves rose in Dou Yun’s heart. The sons of these old fellows all followed Yan Yi He and worked by his side. Once their sons reached the proper age, they would return to take over everything in their families and continue assisting the Yan family.
They were all designated heirs.
With Yan Yi He saying this, could it be that he had really been persuaded by that old fellow Yan Chengnan and now had thoughts of replacing the Yan family heir?
The few of them discussed some other matters in the study afterward, then left. Only after everyone was gone did Yan Yi He look under the desk.
Jing Ruan had become so bored that he was plucking at the fur on the carpet.
After plucking for a long time, he had pinched it into a small round ball.
Jing Ruan crawled out from under the desk and presented the thing in his palm to Yan Yi He.
“When I use a pen to dot eyes and a mouth on it, it’ll become a little kitty head.”
As Jing Ruan spoke, he looked toward Yan Yi He’s desk. He casually picked up a pen, dotted two black points on the little furball, then drew a mouth and whiskers.
After he finished drawing, an ugly little kitty head appeared.
Yan Yi He watched Jing Ruan carefully place the little furball on the desk, even deliberately finding a spot to settle it.
“I’ll put it here to keep you company. In the future, when you feel annoyed, you can look at it.”
Jing Ruan said obediently.
Yan Yi He lightly flicked the furball with his finger. The furball was flicked to the floor, rolling several times before it finally stopped.
Jing Ruan looked at Yan Yi He angrily.
“What are you doing! I finally managed to make it.”
Jing Ruan ran over and picked up the furball. He blew away nonexistent dust, then placed it back in its original spot. As he put it down, he muttered, “You’re not allowed to touch it anymore.”
Yan Yi He did not touch it again. He only pulled Jing Ruan over and had him sit in his arms while he spoke to him.
“Did you hear that just now? I gave Yan Jin a chance.”
“You seem to admire Yan Jin quite a lot. Are you happy now?”
Yan Yi He said.
“I don’t have that much influence. You’re lying to me.”
Jing Ruan looked carefully at Yan Yi He’s eyes, then said what he thought. He did not know the reason behind it. He only knew that he could not possibly influence Yan Yi He’s decisions.
“Has the little mouse grown smarter?”
“But being smart occasionally is enough. If you become too smart, I won’t need you anymore. Understand?”
Just as Jing Ruan was preparing to say something, two people walked straight in through the open study door.
“Yi He, why did you call Yan Jin along to work with me too? What are you calling him for?”
“Don’t tell me you really think highly of him?”
After Yan Qian heard this news, how could he possibly sit still? This matter concerned his status. The old man in his family had always had thoughts of replacing the heir, tossing things back and forth for several years.
Before, Yan Yi He had not paid him any mind. Seeing Yan Yi He’s attitude, Yan Qian had gradually felt at ease. Who knew he would hear this news today?
The moment Dou Cheng entered and saw Yan Yi He holding someone, he froze for a moment, then tugged Yan Qian. Yan Qian’s steps forward paused.
Neither of them had expected Yan Yi He to be holding another person in the study. They had clearly come in right after the others, one after the other, and during that process, they had not seen anyone else walking this way.
Then there was only one possibility: this person had been in the study from the very beginning. After they saw clearly who Yan Yi He was holding, they were even more shocked.
In such a short time, he could already enter the study.
Wasn’t he being favored too quickly?
Jing Ruan did not know what they were thinking. He took the initiative to climb down from Yan Yi He and said he was going back. Yan Yi He did not keep him and told him to go out and find a servant.
After he left, the study door closed.
Jing Ruan did not know what topic was being discussed behind the study door.
When he was sitting in the car, preparing to leave, Yan Qian appeared. His gaze toward Jing Ruan was unfriendly, and he said one sentence to him.
“Looks like that younger brother of mine really stepped in dog shit luck. Who knows where he picked up someone so precious, someone who managed to please Yi He.”
Jing Ruan listened to these words. He knew Yan Yi He had made him into a shield, but he could not clarify it. He had never seen Yan Yi He’s methods for dealing with people, but today, he had seen Yan Yi He kill a deer.
Jing Ruan did not know whether that deer from this morning had been a warning to him, or whether it had truly only been food. But Jing Ruan thought he and that deer were probably no different.
Both of them were powerless, at the mercy of others, waiting to be slaughtered.
