A Faceful Of Lovey-Dovey PDA - Chapter 12
More than ten years of tacit understanding were cruelly shattered in the face of reality. Chu Mei, who had never known the taste of sorrow, finally experienced the pain of longing because of her excessive confidence.
Although the two classes were only one upstairs and one downstairs, very close to each other, for the brief ten minutes between classes, it was still far too distant.
Su Qin was the same as always. On the surface, she gave nothing away, but every day after class, she would slowly walk upstairs. Chu Mei, however, was not like that. Every day, she hurried downstairs in a panic. Although she trusted Ah Qin and knew distance could not block so many years of feelings between them, there were too many seductive little vixens outside now. She had to guard Su Qin properly. If someone snatched her away, wouldn’t Chu Mei cry herself to death?
Just like today. She anxiously rushed downstairs and grabbed Su Qin’s hand. “Ah Qin, I need to go to the bathroom. I’m dying here.”
Su Qin did not know whether to laugh or cry. “If you need to go, then go. Why did you run over here?”
Chu Mei said nothing and pulled her by the hand, running toward the bathroom. When she came out feeling relieved, she happened to see Sister Fang standing beside Su Qin with a blade of grass in her mouth.
Chu Mei immediately frowned in alertness and ran over. The moment Sister Fang saw her, she laughed. “Yo, you really are a little shadow. You two can’t be separated even for a short while.”
“I’m happy that way!” Chu Mei snapped back angrily. “Why are you looking for Ah Qin?”
“Why?” Sister Fang smiled roguishly, deliberately trying to anger her. “Classmate, Ah Qin is now a member of our science class. What does that have to do with you?”
“You!”
Sister Fang raised an eyebrow and looked at Chu Mei. During this period, Sister Fang had grown taller again. Now, she practically had the figure of a model. Even the simple school uniform looked on her as if she were ready for a photo shoot at any moment. It made Chu Mei so jealous she was about to go mad.
“All right.” Su Qin’s head hurt from the fuss. She shot Sister Fang a reproachful glance. “Stop always bullying her.”
Sister Fang pursed her lips. “Aiyo, yes, yes. Little darling, how could I bear to always bully you? Otherwise, someone would get angry.” After saying that, she waved and walked off coolly. At school, she was still the same as always. She did not have many friends and did not care about many things, but she had that lazy, arrogant air that made no one dare provoke her. Recently, she had even started learning taekwondo, and now she seriously had real skills.
Chu Mei waved a fist at her back. “Come back and I’ll knock your teeth out.”
Su Qin shook her head. “You only dare act fierce after she’s gone. All right, let’s talk about something serious. This summer, Sister Fang invited us to go out and have fun.”
“Ah?” Chu Mei was very surprised when she heard this. “She’s not working part-time anymore? How does she have time to go out and play?” Although Chu Mei never verbally admitted defeat to Sister Fang on normal days, deep down, she had always admired her. Forget working part-time while studying—even being asked to help with housework made Chu Mei feel tired.
Su Qin sighed. “You might not believe it. It’s pretty dramatic. Sister Fang used to live with her grandmother and always thought she was an orphan. A few days ago, her grandmother passed away, and then her biological father suddenly appeared. According to her, he’s also some nouveau riche.”
“Her grandmother… passed away?” Chu Mei was even more shocked. “How did I not notice at all?”
“You think everyone is as carefree as you?” Deep down, Su Qin also felt awful for Sister Fang. The only close family member she had relied on for so many years had passed away, and then out of nowhere, a nouveau riche father appeared. Anyone would feel uncomfortable if that happened to them.
“Then what was her dad doing before? Why did he only come back after her grandmother died?” Chu Mei’s mind was suddenly filled with a hundred thousand whys. Su Qin patiently explained, “I heard it was something like their village favoring sons over daughters. After Sister Fang was born, her father left her with her grandmother. He originally wanted to go out and have another child, a son, but later he got some illness and couldn’t have children anymore.”
“That really is dramatic…” Chu Mei clicked her tongue. Su Qin pinched her face. “So don’t always go against her. Some people only look sunny on the outside. Who knows how much pain they’re hiding inside?”
Chu Mei thought about it with a bitter face. “Fine.” She understood Su Qin’s meaning very well. This was just like how she looked on the surface as if she only wanted to be friends with Su Qin, when in truth, deep down, she wanted something much less innocent.
—
Only Su Qin and Chu Mei knew about Sister Fang’s family situation. Sister Fang had told Su Qin in a casual chatting tone, knowing that whatever Su Qin knew would definitely be told to Chu Mei too, and she did not take it to heart. Lin Xueyin, who cared about Sister Fang the most, did not know why Sister Fang no longer needed to work part-time, but she was still very happy about the change. At the very least, Sister Fang finally stopped avoiding her.
The four of them got up early and, under their parents’ instructions, set off by train.
On the train, they played cards, ate instant noodles, and felt indescribably comfortable.
After messing around for half the night, they were finally tired. Chu Mei clung to Su Qin, whining that she was not used to sleeping on trains and insisting on sleeping with Su Qin. Su Qin had no choice but to squeeze with her on the lower bunk. Lin Xueyin was already used to her two childhood friends being sticky and clingy with each other, but Sister Fang watched until her teeth nearly fell out.
“You two are seriously enough. Isn’t it hot in such a narrow space?” Sister Fang looked at Chu Mei and kept shaking her head. Chu Mei already had the appearance of a little fox spirit now. Like a delicate bird depending on someone, she lay in Su Qin’s arms, one hand wrapped around her waist, and said sweetly, “I’m happy this way. I just love sticking to Ah Qin. What’s it to you?” She then hugged Su Qin and nuzzled against her again, even tangling her legs around Su Qin’s waist.
Su Qin’s face remained completely calm, but in truth, Chu Mei’s closeness had long since stirred her heart into chaos. She was not a saint. Facing the person she liked pressed so close to her, how could she possibly feel nothing?
The lights were turned off. Along with the rumbling of the train, the four friends soon entered dreamland. Only Su Qin remained unable to sleep. She looked at Chu Mei in her arms, her hand gently touching Chu Mei’s cheek.
Her skin really was good, like a peeled egg, so smooth and slippery that Su Qin could hardly bear to let go. Her nose was also pretty now, with a delicate shape and a pleasant feel beneath her fingertips. Her eyebrows were soft, and her lashes brushed against Su Qin’s hand like tiny brushes. Su Qin’s hand slowly moved lower. She lightly brushed Chu Mei’s red lips. Chu Mei murmured, and her legs tightened around Su Qin’s waist.
Su Qin: “…”
Her heartbeat suddenly grew fierce. Su Qin lowered her head and looked at Chu Mei. From this angle, she could see Chu Mei’s neckline. The faint light from outside filtered in, covering her in a mysterious layer of color.
“Chuchu…”
Su Qin called softly. No one answered. She looked toward the upper and lower bunks across from them and saw that both childhood friends were asleep, even letting out faint snores.
Almost following instinct, Su Qin’s hand slowly shifted downward, touching a softness that made her breath catch.
So soft…
Chu Mei let out a small murmur, her face faintly flushed. Her body trembled slightly, and she hugged Su Qin tighter.
Su Qin swallowed hard. Her feelings for Chu Mei had not lasted merely a day or two. She was almost eighteen now. Although she usually seemed cool and detached, she had also reached an age of impulse and yearning. The scene before her had appeared in her dreams more than once. She held herself back, yet still felt the pull of desire, and in the end, that longing won.
Su Qin wiped the sweat from her palm. She lowered her head and kissed Chu Mei’s nose.
Perhaps the temperature inside the train was too high, because tiny beads of sweat had appeared on Chu Mei’s nose. Su Qin stared at her lips for a while, took a deep breath, and kissed her.
It was only the lightest touch. Su Qin immediately lifted her head, but beside her ears, even the clattering sound of the train could no longer cover the pounding of her heart.
After stealing that little sweetness, even though it was only a brief, dragonfly-on-water peck, it was enough to leave Su Qin fully satisfied. She covered Chu Mei properly with the blanket and, out of habit, glanced toward the bunks across from them.
Across from her, the two childhood friends who had supposedly been sleeping sweetly and even snoring had woken up at some point. Both of them were gripping the edge of the bunk and staring at Su Qin. In the darkness, their eyes shone with wolf-like light.
