A Faceful Of Lovey-Dovey PDA - Chapter 8
Su Qin’s face turned red, and she immediately understood what was going on. “You idiot, what are you shouting for? Both moms are in the living room trimming green beans.”
Chu Mei opened her mouth again, but Su Qin immediately covered it with her hand. “This is your period. Your Aunt Flo. It’s not some membrane or whatever. Do you understand?”
Chu Mei stared at her with wide eyes. After a full half minute, under Su Qin’s gaze, her face slowly turned red bit by bit.
Ten minutes later…
Chu Mei awkwardly walked from the bathroom to the living room. In the living room, Su Qin was sitting in front of the coffee table, eating grapes and watching My Fair Princess. Catching sight of Chu Mei’s awkward appearance, she curled her lips. So she knew how to be embarrassed?
This time, Mother Chu was very dutiful. She hugged her daughter at once. “Aiya, Chuchu, you’ve grown up.”
Mother Su also smiled along. “Perfect. Tonight, we’re having green beans stewed with pork ribs. We’ll celebrate.”
Su Qin was very helpless. Her mom’s flattery really had no sincerity at all. They had already planned to eat green beans stewed with pork ribs tonight anyway. Wasn’t this just fooling Chuchu?
Chu Mei scratched her head and secretly glanced at Su Qin.
Mother Chu’s eyes curved with laughter. “Our Chuchu has finally managed to catch up with Ah Qin’s pace.”
Su Qin, who was eating grapes, coughed and almost choked. Mother Su laughed. “Look, my Ah Qin is embarrassed too. What’s there to be embarrassed about? You were originally the Sister, so it’s normal for you to mature before Chuchu.”
Chu Mei stared at Su Qin with both eyes. She did not know whether it was psychological or something else, but in Su Qin’s eyes, Chu Mei truly did seem to have matured quite a bit at this moment. That round face of hers, once like a big flat pancake, had begun showing signs of sharpening into a pointed shape. The pig nose everyone had once laughed at had already gained dimension when viewed from the side. Especially those eyes—before, her eyes had only been as big as beans, but now it was as if someone had tugged them longer with their fingers. Although they still were not large, they had become narrow and elongated. Especially when she smiled, there was actually… actually a tiny bit of the charm a woman should have.
Chu Mei’s heart pounded fiercely under Su Qin’s gaze. What did getting her period represent? She had matured. She was a real woman now… Would Ah Qin stop treating her as a little sister?
The two of them ate a meal of pork ribs and green beans amid this conflicted, tangled mood. That night, Chu Mei waved goodbye and followed Mother Chu home, while Su Qin, for the first time since the world began, did not read. Instead, she sat on her bed in a daze.
Chuchu, Chuchu, Chuchu…
“Daughter, do you know? Once your period comes, it means you’ve already grown into a real woman. Everything that should develop will develop, so when interacting with male classmates, you need to be careful about boundaries.” Mother Chu was a doctor, so she paid special attention to sex education for children. Children nowadays looked like children one by one, but in truth, their hearts matured earlier than anyone’s.
Chu Mei was a little impatient. “I’m annoyed right now.” This Aunt Flo really was not anything good. After it came, her whole body felt strange. Down there, it was like someone had turned on a faucet. Not only was walking awkward, but her whole body felt unclean.
Mother Chu nodded. “That’s right. When your period comes, you’ll feel annoyed.” She began educating her. “Not only that, your skin won’t be very good during these days either. A few pimples might pop up now and then. During these days, your temper will be bad, and your body will also be very fragile. Don’t eat cold things, don’t do intense exercise, and it’s best to eat less spicy food too. It’s not good for your ovaries.”
Chu Mei was not really listening. “Really? Then why have I never seen Ah Qin get this annoyed? And her skin has always been so pretty.”
Mother Chu answered patiently, “She’s your Sister. No matter how annoyed she is, she won’t take her temper out on you. She knows how to take care of you. Her skin is different from yours too. You have oily skin, so things grow on it more easily.”
Chu Mei was not on the same train of thought as Mother Chu at all. “I don’t want her to be my Sister. She’s not taller than me now, and she’s not stronger than me either. What right does she have to be my Sister?”
“You child.” Mother Chu did not know whether to laugh or cry. “Why is your temper so strange today?”
Chu Mei was simply unwilling. “Stop always talking to me about male classmates, male classmates. Didn’t you say it yourself? Ah Qin is my Sister. Before she starts dating, I won’t be the first one to stray.”
“You child…” Mother Chu was amused into laughter. Chu Mei ignored her and went straight back to her room. That day, unlike her usual habit of meeting the Duke of Zhou the moment she lay on the bed, she tossed and turned like a pancake all the way until dawn.
Early the next morning, Su Qin habitually rode her bicycle and waited for her outside the door. Unexpectedly, Chu Mei also pushed one out.
Su Qin looked at her. “What are you…” The habit between the two of them had continued from elementary school to high school. In elementary school, Su Qin had been weak, and when she could not pedal uphill, Chu Mei would jump down and help her push the bike. By middle school, Chu Mei would eat sweet candy and peacefully sit on the back seat, leaning against Su Qin while singing off-key songs. Now that they were in high school, Chu Mei felt it was necessary for her to stop troubling Ah Qin.
“I was afraid you’d get tired, so a few days ago, I specifically asked my dad to buy me one just like yours.” Chu Mei said it with a smile. She got onto the bicycle and raised an eyebrow at Su Qin. So what if Ah Qin was her Sister? Starting today, she was also an adult, someone who could stand shoulder to shoulder with Ah Qin instead of clinging behind her.
Su Qin did not know what Chu Mei was thinking. Her originally decent mood was covered by a huge wave of disappointment. She lowered her head and answered, “Oh.”
After saying that, she did not look at Chu Mei and rode off first by herself. Chu Mei quickly followed. The two of them had only ridden a short distance when they ran into Sister Fang.
Sister Fang had long arms and legs. Even riding a bicycle, she did not forget to act cool. Her buttons were undone, the wind blowing through her half-long hair as she narrowed her eyes. “Aiyo, Chuchu, how come you’re riding by yourself today? Not clinging to your Sister anymore?”
Chu Mei snorted. “If you can ride, why can’t I?”
Hearing this, Su Qin bit her lip and lowered her head, pedaling with all her strength. Sister Fang looked at her and wanted to laugh. She reached out with one hand and grabbed Chu Mei’s handlebar. “Hey, your Ah Qin doesn’t seem to be in a very good mood today.”
“Don’t grab me.” Chu Mei had only just started riding a bicycle. How could she compare to Sister Fang, who was as natural as a fish in water? She clumsily held onto the handlebars. When Sister Fang made her go east, she had no way to control the bike and ended up going west.
The two of them were still messing around when the sound of a car honking rang out. They turned around together and saw Lin Xueyin open the car door, carrying her schoolbag as she ran down cheerfully.
“Sister Fang!”
The way she called out was so innocent and lively. When Wang Yanfang saw her, it was as if she had seen a ghost. She kicked Chu Mei away and rode off in a flash.
Lin Xueyin: “…”
In the end, what had originally been a perfectly good two-person ride turned into Chu Mei carrying Lin Xueyin, swerving left and right all the way to school.
When they reached the school gate, Chu Mei gritted her teeth. “You had a perfectly good car to sit in. Why did you come join our excitement?”
Lin Xueyin pursed her lips. “You think I wanted to? I want to ride a bicycle too, but my dad won’t let me no matter what. Didn’t you see? Sister Fang is always avoiding me.”
“So what?” Chu Mei was almost using every bit of strength she had to nurse from milk. Fuck, so it turned out Ah Qin had had such a hard time carrying her before. It really was exhausting.
Lin Xueyin sighed, her ponytail drooping. “I like her. How can it be okay for her to keep avoiding me like this?”
“What?” Chu Mei’s foot slipped, and the bicycle toppled over. Lin Xueyin reacted quickly and jumped off first, leaving only Chu Mei pinned under the bicycle.
“…”
In the end, Chu Mei silently pushed the bicycle off herself, patted the dirt from her body, and stood up. “Lin Xueyin, I’m breaking off our friendship!”
“All right.” Lin Xueyin hugged Chu Mei coquettishly and said by her ear, “I’m sorry, don’t be angry with me, Chuchu.”
Chu Mei snorted coldly. “What did you mean just now? What do you mean, you like Sister Fang?”
Lin Xueyin adjusted her glasses. “Exactly that. I like her. I was originally planning to confess to her after high school graduation, but looking at her now, it seems a bit uncertain. Don’t you think she’s both handsome and beautiful, and that she’s delicate and sensitive as a person? She knows how to take care of other people’s feelings. Although she’s always smiling, her heart is very fragile. I really want to protect her.”
“Con… confess?” Chu Mei’s tongue almost grew thick. She had only heard the important part. “Are you serious, Ah Yin?”
Lin Xueyin nodded. “No way, Chuchu. I see you sticking to Ah Qin every day, so I thought you’d be very open-minded about this kind of thing. What kind of ghost expression is that?”
Chu Mei took a deep breath. “No… aren’t you both girls? How can you confess?”
“Why can’t I?” Lin Xueyin laughed as soon as she heard this. “Ever since I was little, as long as it’s something I like, I work hard to fight for it. Why should I care whether she’s a girl or not? Besides, what’s wrong with girls? Have you seen anyone more outstanding than Sister Fang?”
Chu Mei nodded seriously. “Lots of people are more outstanding than her. For example, me, standing right beside you.”
“…Forget it.” Lin Xueyin was frustrated. She thought for a moment and changed her phrasing. “Then look at all those filthy boys around you. Is any of them more outstanding than Ah Qin?”
Huh?
With one question from Lin Xueyin, Chu Mei’s brain immediately short-circuited. A boy more outstanding than Ah Qin?
