A Faceful Of Lovey-Dovey PDA - Chapter 14
Mother Su and Mother Chu exchanged a glance. Both of them hesitated and said nothing. Embarrassing as it was, in front of an underage girl, they were actually afraid their intelligence would not be enough and that they would be talked in circles.
Su Qin slowly said, “In your eyes, eighteen only means becoming a legal adult, not truly growing up. Then how about this? I’ll take one step back. Mom, Auntie, ten years. I’ll use ten years to prove to you the feelings between me and Chuchu.”
Su Qin’s words shocked Mother Su somewhat. She looked at Mother Chu, who was equally stunned. Ten years? Right now, she and Chu Mei were fifteen. In other words, this would last until they were twenty-five. That span crossed through high school, university, and the first few years after starting work. If she did not have absolute confidence, Su Qin would never have said this. Since the child had already taken a step back, if the two of them kept pressing, would that not be unreasonable? Su Qin really was smart. She had grasped the degree of force and the span of time just right. In Su Qin’s heart, she understood that this day would come sooner or later. She had already planned countless times for the day she would have to face this.
In the end, Mother Su still held something back. “If Chuchu knows about it, how would that be any different from letting you two be together?”
Su Qin stubbornly bit her lip. “I won’t let her know. Mom, do you not trust me?”
That one sentence left Mother Su speechless. Mother Chu also knew Su Qin’s temper. If this continued, things would definitely overturn within the next two years. “All right, then let’s settle it like this for now. Um, Ah Qin, although Auntie has agreed to this vow with you, on Chuchu’s side lately…”
Su Qin nodded. “I know. I won’t go looking for her.”
Seeing Su Qin be so smart and considerate, all kinds of feelings surged up in Mother Chu’s heart. Although she did not want to admit it, it was indeed as Su Qin said. She had merely fallen in love with Chuchu as a girl. What exactly was wrong with that?
Even after returning home, Mother Chu’s complexion was still not very good. Her mind was full of Su Qin’s firm gaze. As soon as she entered the house, Chu Mei came up to meet her. “Mom, what happened to Ah Qin?”
Looking at her daughter’s anxious eyes, Mother Chu sighed. “She was disobedient and made your auntie angry. These next few days, she’s going to be grounded. Don’t go bother her.”
“I don’t believe that!” Chu Mei rejected it outright. “How could Ah Qin make Auntie angry? She’s so filial.”
Hearing this, Mother Chu felt both heartache and sadness. Faced with this unforgiving little ancestor, she was exhausted. “All right. She and your auntie couldn’t reach an agreement on something. It’s the first time mother and daughter have fought. Don’t go sticking your foot in it.”
“Couldn’t reach an agreement?” Chu Mei looked at Mother Chu suspiciously. “What couldn’t they agree on? Don’t tell me Ah Qin is dating someone, and Auntie doesn’t approve? Impossible. We’re together every day. If something were wrong with her, I’d be the first to know.”
Mother Chu’s eyes widened as she looked at Chu Mei in disbelief. These two children—had their understanding of each other really reached this level?
—
Days without Su Qin were simply like years to Chu Mei.
While eating, she thought about Su Qin and directly brought her chopsticks toward her nose.
Father Chu was stunned. “Chuchu, what are you doing?”
Chu Mei smacked her lips. “Aiya, so annoying. Even eating gets me scolded.”
Father Chu: “…”
What had he done? He had merely reminded Chuchu not to stab the nose that had finally grown taller.
Mother Chu looked at Chu Mei and sighed. It had already been a day. Whenever Chu Mei had nothing to do, she would carry a small stool and sit in the corridor. Whenever there was movement from the elevator, she would stand up and look. When she saw it was not Su Qin, she would sit back down again. Honestly, what was Ah Qin doing? Her phone was turned off, and calls could not get through. Wasn’t it just a fight between mother and daughter? Was there any need for this?
In this half-dead state, by the second day, Chu Mei’s nose felt a little uncomfortable. She called out, “Mom, I think I’m catching a cold. Where’s the cold medicine?”
Mother Chu had also not been sleeping well lately. She had dark circles under her eyes. “Here, drink it. And you too—why are you always running toward the elevator for no reason? That’s where the draft is. It would be strange if you didn’t catch a cold.”
“You caught a cold too?” Chu Mei immediately hugged her mother. “Mom, with your cow-like constitution and your solid professional medical knowledge, you can still catch a cold? Did you catch it because something has been bothering you?”
“It’ll be enough if you just give me a little peace of mind.” Mother Chu poked Chu Mei’s forehead. Chu Mei sighed. “I can’t give you peace of mind. I’m worried about Ah Qin and can’t sleep well. Whenever I lose sleep, I feel unwell. It has nothing to do with the draft.”
Mother Chu sighed. “You miss her that much?”
Chu Mei touched her little belly. “Of course. Look, I’ve gotten thinner these past few days. Auntie is really fierce. She’s her own daughter, isn’t she? Don’t people always talk about how hard it is to carry a child for ten months? Thinking about how cute we were as kids, what could possibly be unforgivable?”
Mother Chu’s heart was crying as she listened, but her mouth remained stubborn. “When you were little, you were all wrinkly. You were ugly.”
Chu Mei laughed. She reached out and wrapped her arms around Mother Chu’s waist, acting spoiled with her. “I love Mom the most. Even though I was that ugly, you still bravely raised me. Mom, I love you so, so much.”
Those words made Mother Chu freeze. In the end, she sighed. “Go if you want to. Otherwise, you won’t settle down these next few days anyway. Go see whether your auntie’s anger has cooled. Don’t act recklessly.”
“Haha, I knew my mom was the best.” Chu Mei hugged Mother Chu and kissed her hard on the face. The moment she heard she could go see Su Qin, she immediately changed from sickly and listless to bouncing with energy. “Mom, I’m taking the strawberries. Ah Qin likes them.”
“Mm.” Mother Chu watched Chu Mei’s happy back and shook her head. Whether it was fortune or disaster, it could not be avoided. No matter what, she hoped her daughter would be happy. As for everything else, she would leave it to time.
Chu Mei sprinted all the way to the Su family’s home. When the door opened, Mother Su froze upon seeing Chu Mei. “Chuchu?”
Back when Chu Mei still could not walk steadily, she had been carried to the Su family’s home every day to keep Su Qin company. In Mother Su’s heart, she was like another daughter. Looking at Mother Su’s sallow complexion, Chu Mei felt terribly distressed. “Aiya, Auntie, what happened to you? Why is your little face so yellow too, the same color as my mom’s? What’s wrong with the two of you? You didn’t secretly do something bad together, did you?”
Mother Su did not know whether to laugh or cry. “Why did you come? Where’s your mom?”
“She caught a cold and is at home taking medicine. I was worried about Ah Qin, so I came to check on her.” Chu Mei kept looking inside. Strange. Usually, whenever she came over, Su Qin would have come out to greet her already. Why was there no sound today?
Mother Su asked without revealing anything, “Does your mom know you came?”
“She knows.” Chu Mei looked at Mother Su strangely and raised the strawberries in her hand. “My mom even told me to bring these. Auntie, what’s wrong with you? You’re acting weird. Are you not welcoming me?”
Mother Su smiled with difficulty. “How could that be? Come in.”
“Okay.” Chu Mei skillfully changed into slippers. Before she had even entered the room, she had already started calling out, “Ah Qin, Ah Qin, I brought your favorite strawberries.”
Behind her, Mother Su let out a heavy sigh. “She has a fever and is lying in her room. No matter what anyone says, she refuses to take medicine.”
“Ah?” The moment Chu Mei heard that, she became anxious. She put down the strawberries and hurried into Su Qin’s room. Mother Su watched her, and tears rose in her eyes. Was this fate? It had only been a few days, and they already could not out-stubborn the two children.
As soon as Chu Mei opened the door, she saw Su Qin wrapped in a blanket and lying on the bed. She ran over in a few steps. “Ah Qin, why do you have a fever?”
Su Qin tightly gripped the blanket, her head completely covered. Chu Mei tugged at it once but failed to pull it down. She paused, then used more strength and yanked the blanket hard.
With one glance, she saw Su Qin’s tear-covered face. Chu Mei’s heart clenched tightly. “You…”
Before Chu Mei could finish speaking, Su Qin hugged her, pulling her forcefully into her arms. The strength was so great that Chu Mei could barely breathe. She struggled and asked, “What’s wrong with you?”
Su Qin’s voice was choked. “Don’t move, Chuchu. Let me hold you.”
That weak voice, that trembling body—Chu Mei’s heart instantly collapsed. She reached out and hugged Su Qin back. “Ah Qin, what’s wrong? Did something happen? Don’t worry. I’ve got your back. We’re not afraid of anything.”
