A Fishing-Type Omega Always Wants to Possess Me - Chapter 12
Yu Mianzhou realized that Jiang Yingqiu was probably pressuring Gu Wanlan.
Without revealing anything, she asked, “I heard there’s been news that your boss may be returning to the country soon. Do you need something from her?”
“The Gu Group has a potential partnership we’d like to discuss with your boss,” Gu Wanlan replied frankly.
“Why don’t you send me the materials first?”
Yu Mianzhou appeared thoughtful. She crossed her legs and leaned back against the sofa, lightly tapping her fingertips against the armrest.
“When our boss returns, I can take them directly to her.”
Strictly speaking, those materials were confidential.
But after considering that Yu Mianzhou could technically be regarded as part of the Jiang family, Gu Wanlan nodded.
“All right. I’ll send them to you later.”
The moment she finished speaking, a bodyguard appeared at the entrance of the private room and quietly said something.
Gu Wanlan stood.
“I’ll be there immediately.”
She turned and gave Yu Mianzhou an apologetic smile.
“Thank you for your help. I need to step away for a moment.”
After Gu Wanlan left, glasses clinked throughout the private room while music and laughter nearly lifted the roof.
Yet the corner where Yu Mianzhou sat seemed separated by an invisible barrier, eerily quiet.
Everyone toasted one another and exchanged drinks, but not a single wealthy young heir or heiress approached her.
Although the Jiang family had suppressed what happened back then, no wall was truly airtight.
Occasionally, someone unaware of the situation tried to come over and strike up a conversation. Before they could say more than a few words, however, their companions quickly dragged them away, adding a warning glare for good measure.
Yu Mianzhou was perfectly happy to be left alone.
She did not drink alcohol. Instead, she summoned a server and ordered a glass of fruit juice.
Lychee soda.
Ice cubes knocked against one another inside the glass, releasing a sweet, cool mist. Yu Mianzhou took a sip and thought it tasted rather good.
At that moment, the phone Joyce had forgotten on the coffee table suddenly rang.
Yu Mianzhou lowered her eyes.
The caller ID read Baby Lina.
She walked over and handed the phone to Joyce.
The instant Joyce saw the name, she nearly dropped the cards in her hand.
Lowering her voice, she said, “Lina must be checking up on me! Before I came to see you, she repeatedly emphasized that I wasn’t allowed to stay out past ten at night or drink outside!”
Still clutching her cards, she pressed her palms together and looked pitifully at Yu Mianzhou.
“Darling, answer it for me, please! Tell her the two of us are having dinner. Whatever you do, don’t mention that I’m at a party! In exchange, I’m willing to work overtime for you for the entire next week!”
She was even offering to work overtime.
What else could Yu Mianzhou possibly do?
Seeing Joyce plead repeatedly, Yu Mianzhou accepted the phone and left the private room. She found a relatively quiet spot at the end of the corridor and answered the call.
“Lina.”
The moment the call connected and Lina heard Yu Mianzhou’s voice, she immediately understood what had happened.
Her clear young voice came through the receiver.
“Auntie Elowen, did Mommy ask you to answer her phone? Is she playing outside again? Has she been drinking?”
Lina had always been an intelligent child with astonishing perception.
Leaning against the wall, Yu Mianzhou laughed softly.
“Sometimes, being too clever isn’t a good thing. It can affect your relationships with the people who matter to you.”
The other end of the call fell silent for several seconds.
Lina appeared to consider her words seriously. Then, like a miniature adult, she sighed.
“All right, Auntie Elowen. I’ll listen to you. But I’m in a bad mood right now. My friends are all too stupid. I don’t want to play with them, but they keep bothering me. Mommy is busy, so will you comfort me?”
At six years old, other children had only just entered elementary school, but Lina had already skipped ahead to fourth grade.
Yu Mianzhou’s voice instinctively softened.
“Baby Lina, you’re a good girl. Even if you think they’re stupid, you shouldn’t say it aloud. Can’t you simply be a cute little baby?”
She called Lina her “good baby” several more times before finally managing to soothe the little genius and end the call.
Yu Mianzhou put the phone away and turned back toward the private room.
Several seconds after she left, the tightly closed emergency-exit door behind her was gently pushed open from the inside.
Jiang Zhi emerged from the shadows.
She had only stepped outside to answer a call.
She had not expected to hear the entire conversation, without missing a single word.
Baby?
Yu Mianzhou had actually called someone else “baby” in such a gentle voice over the phone?
Jiang Zhi suddenly laughed from sheer anger. Her beautiful eyes turned so dark that they seemed capable of dripping water.
After all these years, how had she never once heard Yu Mianzhou call her baby?
Just how many babies like this did Yu Mianzhou have?
Did her other babies know how fierce she was in bed?
Jiang Zhi walked back and pushed open the door to her private room.
Deafening music and noise crashed toward her. Everyone inside was playing wildly.
At some point, several unfamiliar faces had appeared on the sofa where she had previously been sitting. There were men and women, Alphas, Betas, and Omegas alike. Every one of them was dressed elegantly and wore exquisite makeup.
The moment they saw her approaching, their eyes lit up like wolves spotting prey.
Someone had evidently sent them over in hopes of pleasing her.
Ordinarily, Jiang Zhi would not even have spared them a glance. She would simply have ordered those ignorant strays thrown out.
But today, unexpectedly, she sat down among them.
A handsome male Alpha immediately understood the opportunity. Eagerly picking up the wine bottle from the table, he rushed to pour Jiang Zhi a glass of red wine before anyone else could.
He was terrified that if he delayed by even a second, someone might steal this extraordinary opportunity from him.
After pouring the wine, he held the glass and smoothly dropped to his knees.
He shuffled across the carpet until he reached Jiang Zhi’s feet, then raised the glass above his head with both hands.
His voice was filled with undisguised flattery.
“Miss Jiang, let me feed you.”
The private room was crowded and loud. Deep bass rolled through everyone’s chests in wave after wave.
Jiang Zhi’s gaze settled upon him, and the elegant curve of her lips lifted.
The smile was faint, but it sent heat rushing through the man’s heart. He thought he had made the right gamble.
The next second, Jiang Zhi accepted the glass.
She slowly rotated her slender, pale wrist.
The crimson wine poured down over the man’s head, drop by drop, until not a single bit remained.
It ran through his carefully styled hair and covered his face.
The smile on the man’s face froze.
“Get out.”
Jiang Zhi’s voice was soft.
She was even still smiling.
But the instant the words fell, two bodyguards in black appeared at the doorway.
They gave the man no opportunity to react. Each seized one of his arms, while another hand clamped directly over his mouth, smothering every plea and cry before he could voice them.
He was dragged away in complete silence.
The color immediately drained from the remaining people’s faces.
They had merely hoped to attach themselves to Jiang Zhi’s powerful branch. They had never expected to be thrown out so brutally.
For a moment, they trembled, barely daring to breathe.
Just as they assumed they would also be dragged away, Jiang Zhi suddenly spoke.
“You.”
Her gaze landed upon one person among them.
“Pour me a drink.”
The woman she singled out froze.
She looked at herself, then at the alluring Omegas and imposing Alphas beside her. Pointing uncertainly at her own nose, she asked:
“M-Miss Jiang… Are you speaking to me?”
Compared to the others, she was plainly dressed. She had barely applied any makeup and was merely the most ordinary kind of Beta.
“You don’t want to?”
Jiang Zhi lifted her eyes slightly.
“You can leave too.”
“I want to! I do!”
The woman looked as though an enormous prize had fallen directly into her lap, and wild delight instantly flooded her face.
She had come here prepared to gamble on the slightest possibility.
She had never imagined she would actually win!
Seeing that a Beta had been selected, the others immediately became jealous and resentful. They were about to volunteer themselves when Jiang Zhi merely lifted one hand.
The two bodyguards appeared again from nowhere.
Expressionlessly, they dragged out every remaining person without exception.
Colored lights moved through the crowd inside the private room, illuminating everyone’s faces with ambiguous, blurred shadows.
Yet this corner became so quiet that only Jiang Zhi and the Beta remained.
Seeing what had happened, the Beta became so excited that her hands began trembling.
She worked even harder.
Imitating the male Alpha’s posture from earlier, she knelt beside Jiang Zhi’s legs and suppressed both her excitement and nervousness as she poured another glass of wine.
She lifted it high and presented it before Jiang Zhi.
Looking at Jiang Zhi’s exquisite face from such close range, as beautiful as someone painted into a portrait, the woman could not stop herself from blushing.
Who did not want to rise higher?
Before coming here, she had understood that attaching herself to someone powerful would surely involve hardship.
But if that person was Jiang Zhi, how could this possibly be considered hardship?
It was clearly a reward.
This was the eldest daughter of the Jiang family!
Jiang Zhi did not accept the wine.
Instead, she lowered her eyes slightly and stared motionlessly into the woman’s eyes.
From close up, they did not look that similar.
Perhaps only fifty or sixty percent.
But the undisguised joy and longing inside those eyes reminded Jiang Zhi of the Yu Mianzhou from long ago.
She had gone abroad and come back with such an icy gaze.
She was no longer adorable in the slightest.
Jiang Zhi leaned forward.
Her crossed right leg lifted slightly, and the narrow, gleaming heel of her shoe tipped up the woman’s chin, forcing her to raise her head and look directly at her.
Jiang Zhi suddenly spoke.
Her voice was very soft, yet sticky as a chain.
“Call me baby.”
