A Fishing-Type Omega Always Wants to Possess Me - Chapter 13
The female Beta’s eyes instantly lit up as though she had won the grand prize.
She hurriedly put down the wineglass, curled against Jiang Zhi’s knees like a cat, and lifted her pretty face to gaze up at her. She deliberately softened and lowered her voice, filling it with blatant seduction.
“B-baby…”
The final syllable rose gently, lingering and suggestive.
It truly sounded lovely.
But Jiang Zhi once again recalled the way Yu Mianzhou had spoken in the corridor earlier, smiling as she called someone “baby” over the phone.
The mere thought made Jiang Zhi feel as though she had taken some kind of aphrodisiac. A strange weakness spread through her entire body, and even her fingertips began to tingle.
She closed her eyes and drew a deep breath, attempting to suppress the inexplicable restlessness surging inside her.
At that moment, someone lightly tugged at the hem of her dress.
Jiang Zhi opened her eyes.
Seeing that she had finally gotten a reaction, the woman before her became bolder. With damp, glistening eyes, she rose and tried to sit beside Jiang Zhi.
“Baby, what’s wrong? Would you like me to massage you?”
For some inexplicable reason, hearing her say “baby” made Jiang Zhi feel nauseated.
The next second, her high heel lowered and pressed against the woman’s shoulder, preventing her from coming any closer. Beneath the lights, the striking red sole appeared even colder and more merciless.
“Get out.”
Jiang Zhi merely narrowed her eyes slightly, yet the oppressive presence cultivated by a lifetime of wealth and privilege made the female Beta’s face turn deathly pale.
The woman had no idea why Jiang Zhi’s mood had changed so abruptly. She was about to plead when she saw Jiang Zhi pick up a fresh wineglass from the table and pour herself another drink.
That glass immediately reminded her of what had happened to the male Alpha earlier.
She knew that if she continued clinging to Jiang Zhi, she would only be dragged out as roughly as a sack of garbage.
Biting her lip in resentment, she rose from the floor and left with reddened eyes.
After the woman departed, Jiang Zhi downed another full glass of wine.
She drank two glasses in rapid succession. Her stomach burned fiercely, yet the sweltering heat inside her did not ease in the slightest.
Then a burst of excited exclamations sounded near the private-room entrance.
Gu Wanlan appeared in the doorway.
The surrounding guests immediately began teasing them suggestively.
“Oh, look at President Gu. She really can’t bear to be separated from Miss Jiang for even a second. Their relationship is so wonderful.”
“Exactly! They aren’t even married yet, and they’re already this inseparable. Did she hear that something filthy was trying to seduce Miss Jiang and rush over immediately?”
“My God, I believe in love again! You two must remain together forever!”
Faced with everyone’s teasing, Gu Wanlan merely smiled.
Her gaze passed through the crowd and landed upon the half-drunk figure in the corner of the sofa. Her heart skipped a beat, and she hurried forward to help Jiang Zhi up.
“Why did you drink so much?”
Her voice could not conceal her concern.
Jiang Zhi opened her eyes.
The liquid and ice inside her glass clinked softly.
She lifted the glass and drained the remaining wine in one swallow. Then she took the last pieces of ice into her mouth and slowly crushed them between her teeth.
Crunch. Crunch—
It sounded as though she were gnawing on bones.
“Thirsty,” she said.
Gu Wanlan looked at the side of Jiang Zhi’s face, flushed red by alcohol, and could not tear her eyes away. The emotion buried in her gaze was almost hot enough to burn.
She said gently, “You shouldn’t drink alcohol when you’re thirsty.”
Jiang Zhi seemed to think of something.
Suddenly, she laughed under her breath and lowered her dark lashes.
“That’s right,” she murmured. “I shouldn’t drink alcohol.”
She should sink her teeth into Yu Mianzhou’s neck and drink her blood and marrow day and night.
Only then could she restrain this endless thirst that made her rot from the inside out.
After the party ended, the music on the club’s second floor gradually quieted.
The guests left in small groups, and silence returned to the corridor.
Jiang Zhi had grown tired after drinking. As one of the hosts, Gu Wanlan took responsibility for seeing off the guests from both private rooms.
After sending away the final group and preparing to get into the car, she spotted Yu Mianzhou beside the road.
The night was deep.
Yu Mianzhou was struggling to support the thoroughly intoxicated Joyce as they prepared to leave.
A man dressed in an expensive suit blocked her path and offered her a business card, wearing a self-satisfied smile.
From Gu Wanlan’s position ten meters away, Yu Mianzhou did not appear to even glance at the card in his hand. She lowered her eyes and said something coldly.
The man’s smile stiffened.
Even so, he continued nodding and bowing as he apologized for disturbing her.
Only after walking several steps away did he roll his eyes and mutter an angry curse beneath his breath.
“Why is she acting so superior? She’s nothing but some thing who moved into the Jiang family halfway through life with her mother. Does she think that because no one discusses the rumors from back then, we don’t know? Everyone knows what happened between her and the Jiang family’s eldest daughter. Yet she still dares give me that attitude. Who does she think she is…”
His voice was quiet and quickly dissolved into the vast darkness, attracting no one’s attention.
But Gu Wanlan heard him.
She stopped walking.
The man’s words inexplicably made her eyelid twitch.
What happened between her and Jiang Zhi back then?
She turned, wanting to find the person who had spoken, but he had already disappeared into the departing crowd.
With the heightened senses of a top-tier Alpha, locating one person among so many would have been effortless.
Yet she did not move.
After standing there for several seconds, Gu Wanlan suppressed the uneasy feeling in her heart and walked over.
She asked gently, “Mianzhou, how is Joyce?”
Seeing that it was her, Yu Mianzhou showed no particular expression.
“She’s drunk.”
Joyce had already had a problem with excessive drinking abroad. The moment she saw alcohol, she could hardly walk away from it. Yu Mianzhou had failed to watch her for a moment today, and Joyce had drunk herself into a complete blackout.
Yu Mianzhou sighed and prepared to help her leave, but Gu Wanlan stopped her.
“The Jiang family’s car is over there. Let us take both of you home.”
Yu Mianzhou glanced at the unconscious Joyce in her arms, then remembered the message Yu Shu had sent that afternoon.
It was indeed time to bring Joyce home.
She nodded.
“Thank you.”
When they reached the extended Rolls-Royce, Yu Mianzhou opened the door and prepared to guide Joyce into the back seat.
Then her movements stopped.
Jiang Zhi was already leaning against the spacious rear seat with her eyes closed, apparently resting.
Gu Wanlan approached at that moment and asked softly:
“Zhizhi, let Mianzhou ride home with us.”
At those words, Jiang Zhi sleepily lifted her eyelids.
Her beautiful eyes abruptly moved downward, passing over Yu Mianzhou’s neck.
They lingered there for two seconds before Jiang Zhi nodded and closed her eyes again.
Yu Mianzhou pretended not to notice.
She pushed Joyce into the car, climbed in after her, and said “thank you” to Gu Wanlan.
Gu Wanlan became momentarily distracted.
Wasn’t it only natural for Yu Mianzhou to ride home in the Jiang family’s car?
Why was she thanking her?
She looked at the two women before her, and that strange sense of incongruity rose within her again.
She nodded somewhat mechanically and signaled the driver to leave.
The car soon began moving.
Everyone was tired. The interior remained deathly silent, and no one spoke.
Half an hour later, the car stopped smoothly outside Shenyuan Estate.
The old butler had already been waiting by the entrance.
The moment Gu Wanlan stepped out first, a broad smile immediately spread across his aged face as he came forward to welcome her.
“Thank you for your trouble, Miss Gu, bringing our Eldest Young Miss home so late.”
He glanced at Jiang Zhi, who had not opened her eyes inside the car, and signaled behind him.
Seven or eight servants immediately surged forward.
They carefully helped Jiang Zhi out of the car, carried her bag, and placed a coat around her shoulders. Someone else had already rushed toward the kitchen to prepare hangover soup.
The group surrounded Jiang Zhi and swept majestically toward the main building.
Although Gu Wanlan had witnessed this many times, she had still never grown accustomed to such a spectacle and froze briefly in surprise.
She was about to mention that Yu Mianzhou was still inside the car when the old butler smiled at her.
“Madam is already waiting inside. Please come in, Miss Gu.”
Gu Wanlan knew the old butler had clearly seen Yu Mianzhou.
Yet he did not mention her at all.
She frowned slightly but ultimately nodded and followed him toward the living room.
Before stepping inside, she could not resist looking back.
In the darkness, Yu Mianzhou stood alone, lifting Joyce out of the car without anyone’s help.
Her slender back formed a stubbornly straight line in the night, making her appear exceptionally lonely.
At some unknown point that evening, that strange feeling had begun winding around Gu Wanlan’s heart like a creeping vine.
It remained with her even while she fed Jiang Zhi the hangover soup, making her movements slow and distracted.
When Jiang Yingqiu discussed the project’s progress with her, Gu Wanlan remained absentminded.
Meeting Jiang Yingqiu’s perpetually scrutinizing gaze, she suddenly broke into a cold sweat and restrained the urge to stand and bow.
“I’m sorry, Aunt Jiang.”
Jiang Yingqiu probably assumed she was tired after the party.
After learning that Gu Wanlan had still not met the person in charge of the small company, she only asked a few casual questions, patted Gu Wanlan’s shoulder, and told her to go home and rest early.
A Jiang family driver took Gu Wanlan back to the Gu residence.
The enormous mansion was cold and empty, just like the Jiang family’s estate—vast and deathly silent.
Even after she washed and lay down, nightmares repeatedly disturbed her sleep.
She suddenly awakened in the middle of the night.
Only then did she finally understand where that strange sense of incongruity had come from—
Those two sisters had never spoken a single word to each other in front of her.
