A Rich Family’s Matrilocal Alpha Married to a Vegetative Omega - Chapter 20
When Ye Fan didn’t speak, Wei Rou didn’t press her further. She pursed her lips and turned her wheelchair, preparing to close the shop.
Ye Fan hurriedly stopped her. “What are you doing?”
“I’m going to find my sister.”
Wei Rou’s expression was resolute. With Wei Xing gone all this time, she had been guarding the shop alone, and her heart was filled with unease. She knew Wei Xing had gone to handle a matter for Ye Fan, so she had been waiting for Ye Fan to show up.
It wasn’t that Wei Rou hadn’t tried to find her sister on her own, but after much effort, she had come up empty-handed. Having finally waited for Ye Fan today, she expected news of Wei Xing, but the reality left her disappointed.
Now she could only rely on herself. Even if she had to crawl, she was going to find her sister.
Seeing Wei Rou like this, Ye Fan’s guilt overflowed. Her determination to bring Wei Xing back solidified. She crouched in front of Wei Rou, hands gripping the wheelchair armrests, and looked her in the eyes.
“Wei Rou, don’t worry,” Ye Fan said with sincere earnestness. “I will help you find Wei Xing. You just need to stay home and wait for her to come back.”
Wei Rou looked up, her eyes full of hope. “Really?”
Ye Fan nodded firmly. “Really. No matter the cost, I will bring Wei Xing back!”
Wei Rou stared at her for a few seconds before finally nodding. “Okay! I believe you!”
With Ye Fan’s promise, Wei Rou felt much more at ease. Many people passed through her flower shop, but only Ye Fan bought flowers for her Omega every single time.
She must love her Omega very much, Wei Rou thought. A person like that must have a very soft heart.
Ye Fan, unaware of Wei Rou’s thoughts, offered a few more words of comfort before leaving.
The Qin Residence
Ye Fan pushed open the door, and a sense of stillness washed over her. Her gaze landed on the vase on the windowsill; it was empty, save for a few withered yellow leaves at the bottom. The vase that used to be full of life and beauty now looked desolate.
Ye Fan felt a pang of melancholy. “I’m back,” she said, inserting the Stargazer lilies she bought from the shop into the vase.
A light, elegant fragrance filled the room, and the petals seemed to emit a faint glow, bringing a trace of life to this forgotten corner. If Qin Shujian weren’t a vegetable, Ye Fan would surely have seen the slight curl of her lips.
“You went to the flower shop.”
“Yes.” Ye Fan nodded. She had no intention of hiding it from Qin Shujian. “I was worried about Wei Xing, so I went to check on the situation.” She let out a long sigh.
In truth, it wasn’t just Ye Fan; Qin Shujian was also deeply worried. However, based on the few words Ye Fan said, Qin Shujian had already guessed the outcome.
“Wei Xing hasn’t returned, has she?”
Ye Fan’s eyes went round with shock. She hadn’t expected Qin Shujian to guess this. Did my wife plant a bug on me? How did she guess so accurately!
“How did you know? I haven’t even said anything yet.”
Qin Shujian had been born into a family like the Qins and had dealt with human nature since childhood; how could she not guess such things?
“If Wei Xing had returned safely, you would have told me the first second you walked in. Furthermore, Wei Xing is my subordinate; she wouldn’t simply ignore me while I’m in a coma. The fact that she hasn’t been seen for so long means she has been missing for a while.”
In truth, Qin Shujian had hoped her mother would spare Wei Xing for the sake of her being a loyal confidante, but it seemed…
Ye Fan was once again floored by Qin Shujian’s intelligence. Her wife was too smart; she hadn’t thought about it that much at all, yet her wife could see the problem from the smallest details.
But the priority now was to rescue Wei Xing. Wei Rou was still waiting. Ye Fan instinctively looked toward Qin Shujian, hoping for instructions.
Outside, the afterglow of the sunset spilled onto the windowsill, reflecting a warm light. After a moment of silence, Qin Shujian’s voice returned: “Now that our embryo has been successfully cultivated, Mother should have no reason to keep holding Wei Xing. Go and test the waters. Confirm if Wei Xing is still in her hands and what the situation is like now.”
Ye Fan nodded heavily. “I understand!”
She stood and walked to the windowsill, reaching out to gently touch that warm light. She made a secret vow: she would work hard to return Wei Xing to Wei Rou’s side!
Night fell quickly, and Qin Wan returned. Ye Fan stood at the door of Qin Wan’s study, took a deep breath, and knocked.
“Come in,” Qin Wan’s cold, steady voice drifted out.
“Madam Qin.” Ye Fan poked her head in and walked forward with a nervous smile. “Ah… haha, Madam Qin is still working so late? You’re working so hard.”
Hearing Ye Fan’s voice, the hand Qin Wan was using to review documents paused. She looked up with a cold expression, clearly not welcoming Ye Fan’s presence. Ye Fan didn’t want to face her either, but for Wei Xing’s sake, she had to bite the bullet.
“I warmed a glass of milk for you. Even if you’re busy, you need to balance work and rest.” She spoke while observing Qin Wan’s face, slowly approaching. Seeing no rejection, she stood beside her. “M-Madam Qin, about…”
Snap! Qin Wan slammed her pen onto the desk, an icy aura surrounding her. “The reason I allowed you here was to care for Shujian. If you’re only here to say these things, you can leave now.”
Ye Fan pouted aggrievedly. Why be so mean? It’s not like I’m not going to say it.
“I just want to know where Wei Xing is now. Madam Qin, could you please release her?”
At this, Qin Wan’s face darkened further. If she hadn’t forgotten something in the ward that day and gone back, Ye Fan and Wei Xing might have successfully conspired to take Shujian away!
She let out a cold sneer, her eyes icy as she looked at the person before her. “The embryo has been successfully cultivated. You no longer have any ‘utility’ value to me. Instead of worrying about others, you should worry about yourself.”
Ye Fan felt a sharp sting in her heart from those blunt words. She clenched her fists and said through gritted teeth, “I have fulfilled the contract according to your requirements. You cannot move against me, or it will be a breach of contract!”
Qin Wan’s gaze, sharp as a blade, dug into Ye Fan. “You have the nerve to talk about fulfilling the contract? If I hadn’t discovered your escape attempt, I wouldn’t even know where you’d be right now!”
Ye Fan shrank her head back, feeling a bit guilty. But she remembered her goal and braved Qin Wan’s aura: “Wei Xing has always followed the Eldest Miss and knows her very well. Even though I’m the one taking care of her, there are many things I still need to ask Wei Xing. So… could Madam Qin please help me… find Wei Xing?”
She spoke cautiously, shifting the topic entirely to Qin Shujian to emphasize Wei Xing’s importance to her daughter. “In case Shujian wakes up one day and can’t find Wei Xing, she’ll probably be angry, right?” She stole a glance at Qin Wan’s expression, trying to read something.
But unfortunately, there was nothing. Qin Wan swept a cold glance over her, like a freezing wind. Ye Fan felt a chill in her heart. “Do what is required of you. Do not ask about things that are not your concern.”
Ye Fan understood that if anything could make Qin Wan relent, it would only be Qin Shujian. She couldn’t give up. “Madam Qin, Shujian is a vegetable now and needs care even more. I want Wei Xing back because I want to fulfill her wishes. As Shujian’s mother, surely you can empathize with how I feel.”
Although Ye Fan’s words sounded like she was considering Qin Shujian, Qin Wan saw right through her little scheme.
“Ye Fan! If you don’t know the meaning of ‘decorum’ and ‘propriety,’ I can find someone to teach you.”
“Madam…”
Qin Wan had no intention of entangling further with Ye Fan. Her face showed anger, the suppressed irritation finally erupting. She raised a hand to cut Ye Fan off. “If you continue to pester me here, I will have no choice but to have someone ‘invite’ you out.”
The stress on the word “invite” was heavy. Ye Fan understood the meaning immediately. She tried to probe a few more times, but Qin Wan’s aura was too strong. She didn’t manage to find out anything before being dismissed.
Back in the bedroom, Qin Shujian’s voice rang out again. “How did it go?”
“I’m so useless. I didn’t find out anything.” Ye Fan sat dejectedly by the bed, burying her head near Qin Shujian’s hand.
Qin Shujian sighed inwardly. She knew Ye Fan’s temperament; making her face her mother alone was indeed a tall order. But they hadn’t been able to contact Wei Xing for months, and they couldn’t let it drag on any longer. If Ye Fan couldn’t negotiate with her mother normally, the best way was to do it herself. Or rather, through her own words—her mother would at least listen to those.
After a moment of silence, Qin Shujian made up her mind. “This can’t continue. Go tell Mother that I can communicate with you.”
Ye Fan had actually thought of this before, but Qin Shujian had rejected it then. Hearing her bring it up now, Ye Fan was hesitant. “Madam Qin dislikes me very much right now. Will she believe me?”
“Tell her things that only the two of us know. She will believe it,” Qin Shujian’s voice was certain.
Seeing Qin Shujian’s resolve, Ye Fan stood up and perked up. “Then I’ll go tell her right now.”
“Go. Even if she is unwilling to believe you at first, you must bring her to my room.”
“Okay.” Ye Fan nodded heavily. This time, nothing could go wrong. She cheered herself on: Ye Fan, you can do this! Wei Xing’s safety depends on you!
Reinvigorated, Ye Fan rushed back downstairs and knocked on the study door once more.
