A Rich Family’s Matrilocal Alpha Married to a Vegetative Omega - Chapter 21
Qin Wan looked impatiently at the person who had returned once again. “Why are you back?”
“Madam Qin, I have an important matter to tell you,” Ye Fan said mysteriously.
“If you’re going to talk about the same things as before, my answer remains the same.” This time, Qin Wan didn’t even grant Ye Fan a glance. She kept her head down, reviewing documents, her icy tone signaling that she had no desire to hear Ye Fan speak.
“No, no! What I want to say is related to Shujian.” Ye Fan waved her hands frantically, fearing that if she were a second too slow, Qin Wan would kick her out. “Although Shujian is a vegetable right now, she has been conscious this entire time. She can even perceive the world outside.”
The hand Qin Wan was using to sign documents stopped instantly. She looked up at the person in front of her.
Her expression gradually turned solemn. She pushed the documents aside; anything involving Shujian’s physical condition was not something she could afford to be careless about.
If what Ye Fan said was true, it meant there was a possibility of Shujian waking up. However…
“What evidence do you have that Shujian is conscious? Why should I believe you?” Qin Wan spoke with visible anger, seemingly suppressed. “Ye Fan! My Qin family doesn’t mind supporting a useless waste, but if you continue to be this restless, you can get lost and go back to the Ye family!”
Ye Fan grew anxious. “No, Shujian really is conscious! There are things medicine can’t explain—for example, the fact that I can hear her inner thoughts. That is the best way to prove it.”
“Inner thoughts?” Qin Wan had originally thought Ye Fan had discovered some clinical sign, but she hadn’t expected such an unreliable answer.
She let out a sneer, looking at Ye Fan as if she were a fool. “How did I not notice before that there was something wrong with your brain? Or is it…”
Qin Wan’s eyes turned cold, her gaze piercing Ye Fan like two icicles. “Or is it that my control over you has been so loose lately that you dare to provoke me over and over again today?”
Ye Fan knew Qin Wan wouldn’t believe her so easily. Telling people she could hear “inner thoughts” would only make them think she was telling a joke. But she truly, actually could hear Qin Shujian’s heart.
She looked at Qin Wan with total sincerity. “I know this sounds bizarre, but everything I’m saying is true.”
Qin Wan wasn’t going to believe her just because of a few sentences of explanation. She looked up at Ye Fan. “Since you can hear thoughts, can you hear what I’m thinking right now?”
Ye Fan rubbed her nose, saying awkwardly, “I can only hear the Eldest Miss’s thoughts…”
Qin Wan snorted coldly. “If Shujian can perceive the outside world and has thoughts, why is it you who hears them, and not me, her mother?”
“That… maybe it’s because the Eldest Miss and I are destined…”
Speaking of this, Ye Fan also felt it was quite magical. She rubbed the back of her head sheepishly, only able to attribute everything to “fate.”
Given Ye Fan’s criminal record of trying to help Qin Shujian escape, Qin Wan didn’t take her words seriously. Instead, she felt Ye Fan was toying with her.
Her face turned as dark as the bottom of a pot. Her eyes grew colder by the second, and an aura of displeasure spread without restraint.
“Enough! The Qin Group has many matters requiring my attention. My time is precious; I don’t have time to listen to your nonsense here!”
Seeing that Qin Wan was about to throw her out, Ye Fan—like beans spilling from a bamboo tube—quickly blurted out several things Qin Shujian had told her. Qin Wan’s expression shifted rapidly, moving from anger to sheer shock.
“How could you possibly know these things?”
“I know Madam Qin doesn’t believe me. You can come with me to see Shujian. Just a short visit; it won’t take much of your time.”
Ye Fan’s heart felt as if it were burning, then drowning, then being crushed by a stone. She couldn’t find a moment of peace. Her brow was furrowed with worry. Her wife had said that if Madam Qin didn’t believe her, she should bring her to the room. This was her final resort.
Ever since the embryo had been successfully cultivated, Madam Qin had poured all her focus into the child being gestated. It had indeed been a long time since she had visited Qin Shujian.
Madam Qin stared at her with a sharp gaze. After a long silence, she finally agreed to see her daughter.
“Let’s go.”
Qin Wan gave Ye Fan a cold look and was the first to walk out of the study.
Ye Fan breathed a sigh of relief, patting her chest. After talking to Madam Qin for so long, at least her effort hadn’t gone to waste.
As long as they were back in the room with Qin Shujian there to provide guidance, Ye Fan wasn’t afraid that Madam Qin wouldn’t believe the truth.
The bedroom was exactly as it was when Ye Fan left. Qin Shujian lay quietly on the bed. Moonlight spilled in from the window, covering her like a thin silver veil.
“Shujian…” Qin Wan stood by the bed, looking down at her daughter. A thousand emotions swirled in her heart, and her tone was full of guilt. “Mama has been very busy lately and hasn’t come to see you. Do you blame me?”
Ye Fan instinctively began to “translate” Qin Shujian’s thoughts. “Shujian says she doesn’t blame you.”
Hearing Ye Fan’s sudden interruption, Qin Wan frowned. “Even now, you’re still pretending you can hear her?”
“I’m not pretending. I’m telling you exactly what the Eldest Miss is thinking.” Ye Fan’s voice was sincere. Fearing Qin Wan wouldn’t believe her, she revealed what she was hearing.
“Madam, there is a butterfly-shaped mark on your back. It was drawn there by your lover’s own hand. I also know that Madam prefers light flavors and is allergic to soy products.”
Qin Wan’s gaze instantly shot toward Ye Fan like a sharp sword. “You investigated me? Who sent you?”
“No, no, no!” Ye Fan shook her head like a rattle, hurriedly explaining. “You’ve misunderstood. I haven’t investigated you. I just heard all of this from the Eldest Miss just now.”
While Ye Fan was speaking to Qin Wan, Qin Shujian’s inner voice continued.
“Don’t stop. Tell Mother…”
Ye Fan did as she was told. “I also heard Shujian say that when she was a child, she begged you to tell her a story. You refused because of work, and she ignored you for three days. Finally, you personally wrote a fairy tale before she forgave you. The first sentence of the story was: ‘A long time ago, a mermaid mother gave birth to a very grumpy little mermaid…’”
Ye Fan’s mouth didn’t stop for a moment. She poured out everything she was hearing from Qin Shujian.
At first, Qin Wan didn’t believe it, watching Ye Fan guardedly. But as Ye Fan said more and more, Qin Wan’s gaze shifted from defensiveness to contemplation. She began to recall the fragments of the past, trying to verify the truth of Ye Fan’s words.
“Enough!” Qin Wan interrupted. She looked at Ye Fan in shock. “Can you really hear Shujian’s heart?”
Seeing that Qin Wan was finally no longer on guard against her, Ye Fan breathed a sigh of relief.
“Madam, I understand your doubts. Even I find it absurd that I can hear thoughts.”
And only Qin Shujian’s thoughts, at that!
Qin Wan’s heart was in a knot; she still felt a sense of surrealism.
“When did you first discover you could hear her?”
“I could hear her as soon as I arrived here,” Ye Fan confessed honestly.
Why did Ye Fan know Wei Xing? Why did she try to help Qin Shujian escape? Why did she often talk to herself? All of Qin Wan’s previous doubts now had a logical explanation.
However…
“You didn’t tell me when you first discovered it. Telling me now… it’s for Wei Xing, isn’t it?”
Ye Fan was secretly amazed. Madam Qin truly lived up to being the head of a corporation; she had guessed everything before Ye Fan even said it.
She nodded. “Shujian wants you to release Wei Xing and terminate the artificial womb pregnancy plan.”
Qin Wan’s heart jolted. At this moment, she finally understood her daughter’s true feelings.
But unfortunately, she had her own constraints.
“I can release Wei Xing, but I will not terminate the plan.” Qin Wan’s voice was laced with both helplessness and resolve.
Even if Qin Shujian was conscious, she still couldn’t wake up. Her two brothers were already making their moves. Until she had absolute certainty, she would not terminate the plan.
Qin Shujian hadn’t expected that even after knowing she was conscious, her mother would still continue with the plan. She felt both disappointed and angry.
“I am not dead yet, and you’re already so eager to cultivate the next heir? I am still conscious; it’s not like I can’t wake up.”
Ye Fan looked at the person on the bed with conflict, but she repeated the words exactly as they were said.
Qin Wan went silent for a moment, looking as if she had aged ten years.
“What if you can’t? Shujian, you are my daughter; you should understand your responsibility. The Qin family estate is massive; you know how many people are eyeing this position. The news of your accident has already made many people restless. If there isn’t a suitable heir, the Qin family will be swallowed by them sooner or later.”
If she weren’t forced into a corner, how could she have come up with such a method?
Ye Fan waited a while, but didn’t hear any more from Qin Shujian.
The atmosphere grew increasingly tense. Ye Fan bit her lip, her eyes darting around. “Madam Qin, although Shujian is lying in bed right now, I can act as her spokesperson. In business, I can be her eyes and her mouth. She has her own consciousness; waking up is only a matter of time.”
Ye Fan paused, glanced at the person on the bed, and said to Qin Wan: “The Eldest Miss wants me to tell you that she hopes her child will be born of her own free will, and not in a cold machine.”
How could Qin Wan not understand that logic? It was just that everything was beyond her control.
“Wei Xing will be back soon. But the Qin family needs an heir; there is no room for negotiation on this matter.”
“Rest well. I will have the doctors come again to check your body.”
After leaving those words, Qin Wan gave Qin Shujian one last look before turning and leaving resolutely.
