A Rich Family’s Matrilocal Alpha Married to a Vegetative Omega - Chapter 27
At the same time, Qin Wan’s men brought a bound man into her study.
“President Qin.”
Qin Wan looked up. The man brought in was in his thirties, thin and small, with sharp features and a shifty expression that made him look incredibly sleazy.
Li Jinghui had seen Qin Wan before and knew why her people had grabbed him, but he held onto a sliver of hope, feigning ignorance.
“Madam Qin, why have you had me brought here out of the blue? Is there some misunderstanding?”
Qin Wan remained expressionless, but her eyes flashed with ice. She skipped the pleasantries and looked directly at him. “Who told you to tamper with Shujian’s car?”
Panic flared in Li Jinghui’s heart. He lowered his head, his gaze darting around as sweat beaded on his forehead, yet he continued to quibble.
“What is Madam Qin saying? How would I ever dare to touch the Eldest Miss’s car…”
Qin Wan let out a cold snort and instructed the subordinate beside her, “Bring out the evidence we found and let him have a good look!”
The subordinate immediately threw several photos and investigative reports in front of Li Jinghui.
The more Li Jinghui looked, the more terrified he became. The evidence Qin Wan’s people had gathered was too complete—clear as day, leaving him absolutely no room for rebuttal.
But Li Jinghui was truly terrified. Madam Qin had managed to secure the position of CEO of the Qin Group as a woman; her iron-fisted methods were beyond what an ordinary person could withstand.
Sweat dripped from Li Jinghui’s forehead onto the floor. He remained stubborn. “That’s not me in those photos. You’ve made a mistake. This evidence must have been forged by someone trying to frame me.”
Qin Wan sneered, looking at the trembling Li Jinghui. “Whether it’s you or not, you know best in your heart.”
“I don’t have time to play these guessing games with you. I only want to know who bribed you to move against Shujian.”
“No one bribed me, and I didn’t touch the Eldest Miss’s car.”
Li Jinghui refused to admit it. No matter how Madam Qin questioned him, he did not sell out Qin Huaili.
This wasn’t because Li Jinghui was particularly brave; it was simply because he knew that even if he told Qin Wan the truth, he wouldn’t have a good ending. It was better to pin his hopes on Qin Huaili. Once Qin Huaili discovered he had been caught, he would surely find a way to get him out to avoid being exposed.
Then he could demand a sum of money from Qin Huaili and flee abroad. Even if Qin Wan had immense power domestically, she would find it hard to track him down once he was gone.
Seeing that she couldn’t get anything out of Li Jinghui, Qin Wan had her men take him away and lock him up for the time being.
The subordinate who had captured Li Jinghui remained. Qin Wan asked, “Is there something else?”
“When I caught Li Jinghui, I noticed another group was there. They also wanted to grab him, but they weren’t well-prepared, and Li Jinghui nearly escaped. Do we need to investigate them?”
Qin Wan fell silent. If she hadn’t known that Qin Shujian was conscious and communicating with Ye Fan, she might have been suspicious. But now she knew that while Shujian was a vegetable, she could contact Wei Xing through Ye Fan. It was impossible for Shujian not to investigate the cause of her accident. That other group was likely arranged by Shujian.
Qin Wan waved a hand. “No need to investigate. I likely know who they are. You may go.”
“Yes, Madam.”
After her subordinate left, Qin Wan put away the evidence against Li Jinghui and immediately went to see Qin Shujian.
Ye Fan offered a sheepish smile. “Madam Qin, you’ve come to see Shujian.”
Qin Wan glanced at Ye Fan and then looked at the person lying on the bed. Her cold expression softened significantly, and her voice became gentle.
“Shujian, are you having Wei Xing investigate the car accident?”
Qin Shujian had already been wondering if that other group was sent by her mother. Hearing Qin Wan’s question, her guess was confirmed.
She was currently unconscious, and Wei Xing had been moved from her core position. Although Wei Xing still had usable people, she was far less capable than before. Her mother was different; as the CEO, she had a vast array of resources. With her mother’s help, it wouldn’t take long to find the mastermind behind Li Jinghui.
Qin Shujian made a prompt decision. Ye Fan, tell Mother the truth about Wei Xing investigating the accident.
Ye Fan gave an obedient “oh” and relayed how Qin Shujian had Wei Xing investigate Li Jinghui and the information they had found.
Madam Qin nodded. There was no reason Qin Shujian couldn’t find the information she had found. However, since she had already caught Li Jinghui, there was no need for Shujian to waste resources on it.
Looking at her daughter, who could only communicate through Ye Fan, Madam Qin felt a pang of sorrow. Her daughter had always been brilliant and had never been a cause for worry. After graduation, the very first project she handled for the group brought in massive profits. She should have been radiant, with an infinitely bright future, but now she could only lie in bed, her awakening uncertain.
Madam Qin reached out and tidied Qin Shujian’s somewhat messy hair, her gaze full of maternal love and pity.
“Shujian, you don’t need to have Wei Xing continue the investigation. Li Jinghui has already been caught by my people and is being held. I will handle this. Rest assured, I will find the mastermind and have them come here personally to apologize to you!”
Qin Shujian was touched by her mother’s words. After a moment of silence, she decided to have Ye Fan tell Qin Wan about her physical progress. Doctors frequently checked her; even if she didn’t say it, her mother would find out soon. Moreover, the person who wanted to harm her hadn’t been identified yet. If her mother didn’t take precautions, the news of her awakening might leak, and the culprit would likely strike again while she was still recovering.
Ye Fan didn’t have those worries; she just felt that her wife being able to move was something to be celebrated. Following the request, she joyfully told Madam Qin.
Madam Qin was visibly moved. Her usually steady expression shattered, and her voice carried a trace of uncontrollable trembling.
“Ye Fan, is what you’re saying true?!”
“Of course it’s true. When I first noticed yesterday, only her fingers could move. Now she can even move her toes.”
As she spoke, Ye Fan lifted Qin Shujian’s right hand. “Wife, move a bit for Madam Qin to see.”
Qin Wan’s breath hitched, her eyes fixed on Qin Shujian’s slender fingers. Time seemed to stretch infinitely. Qin Shujian focused and managed to move a finger. Seeing this, Qin Wan’s eyes instantly reddened, and she nearly lost control of her tears.
“That’s wonderful, Shujian! If you can move, you will surely wake up!”
Ye Fan hadn’t seen Madam Qin show such emotion since she arrived. Seeing her this excited about Shujian’s recovery, she realized she truly must love her daughter.
A minute later, Qin Wan’s excitement calmed, and she regained her usual composure.
“Shujian, don’t worry about the accident. Just focus on recovering your health. I’ll handle the rest.”
“Your Aunt Zilin has been leading a team abroad for a project. She returned the day before yesterday. I will contact her to be your primary physician. With her and her team, you will surely wake up soon.”
As she spoke, Qin Wan glanced at Ye Fan, who was still holding Qin Shujian’s hand.
“How much longer do you plan on holding her hand?”
Ye Fan had been feeling touched by the mother-daughter bond, but hearing the shift in tone, she could only reluctantly let go. Sigh, she’s just holding her own wife’s hand, yet Madam Qin won’t even allow that.
“Shujian is pregnant now. Ye Fan, you should know what you should and shouldn’t do…”
After lecturing Ye Fan for nearly half an hour, Madam Qin finally let her go and left the room.
After she left, Ye Fan leaned over the bed and took Qin Shujian’s hand back into her own. “Madam Qin warns me every time she leaves, fearing I’ll mistreat you.”
“And now that you’re pregnant, she’s even more afraid I’ll do something inappropriate. Do I look like such a beastly person?”
Qin Shujian felt like laughing at Ye Fan’s aggrieved tone. She teased her intentionally: I think Mother’s concern is valid. The child in my belly is the best evidence.
Even though Ye Fan had no choice that night, the pregnancy was a fact. Ye Fan was left speechless, her intended words stuck in her throat, feeling even more wronged.
After leaving the room, Qin Wan found Housekeeper Su. Although the Qin house was relatively safe, there were many people around. For Shujian’s safety, the fewer people who knew about her condition, the better. She had failed to protect her daughter once; she wouldn’t let it happen again.
“Su Yu, notify everyone: no one is allowed near the third floor where Shujian stays without permission.”
Housekeeper Su nodded and asked, “Do we need to find separate lodgings for Miss Ye?”
Qin Wan thought for a moment. Shujian needed someone by her side, and since she was busy with the company, she couldn’t always be there. Having someone like Ye Fan, who could hear Shujian’s thoughts, was actually quite fitting.
“No need. Let Ye Fan stay and continue to care for her.”
“Yes, Madam.”
After handling the household matters, Qin Wan contacted Huai Zilin, explained the situation, and asked her to lead the team to help Shujian recover as quickly as possible.
Qin Shujian was a person who valued cleanliness. Previously, a caregiver helped her with her hygiene every day, but now that no one was allowed on the third floor, the responsibility fell to Ye Fan.
In the evening, Ye Fan carefully adjusted the water temperature and drew a bath. Returning to the bedroom, she stood before the bed looking at her beautiful wife, her cheeks heating up.
“Wife, I’m going to help you wash up.”
Qin Shujian was also a bit embarrassed and gave a faint “mm.”
Hearing her agreement, Ye Fan’s breathing grew heavy. “Then… I’ll help you undress.”
Ye Fan reached for Qin Shujian’s collar. With a racing heart and trembling hands, her fingers slipped several times. It took her three minutes just to undo the first button. Although they had been more intimate before, that was during a state of mental chaos; now, both were completely sober.
As the buttons were undone one by one, revealing skin as white as jade, Ye Fan felt a sudden heat in her nose. The next second, a stream of warmth surged out.
“Mmph…” Ye Fan hurried to look down and press her nostrils, frantically looking for tissues.
Qin Shujian heard the noise and asked worriedly, Ye Fan, what happened?
“I… I’m fine…”
With her nose stuffed with tissue, Ye Fan’s voice was nasal. Qin Shujian was smart enough to realize exactly what had happened, and for a moment, she was speechless.
After cleaning up the nosebleed, Ye Fan lifted Qin Shujian and placed her in the bathtub. As the warm water covered her body, Shujian couldn’t help but let out a soft moan of comfort. Hearing this, Ye Fan’s fingers tightened, and the bleeding threatened to start again.
She rushed out of the bathroom and splashed cold water on her face. Ye Fan, calm down! Your wife is pregnant now, endure it! Persistence is victory!
Chanting a “calming heart” mantra, she stepped back into the bathroom and, suppressing her inner heat, finished the task with great difficulty. Sigh, her wife is just too alluring. Thinking that this life would continue until Shujian woke up, Ye Fan felt both sweet and distressed.
Previously, servants would come to care for Shujian’s needs, but since the order to bar unauthorized people from the third floor, it was mostly just the two of them. Ye Fan was always trying to be close to her wife, which often caused her pheromones to spiral out of control.
The familiar heat swept through her body again. Ye Fan frowned, pulling at her collar as she complained to Qin Shujian.
“Wife, I’m uncomfortable.”
Qin Shujian’s pheromones were also triggered by Ye Fan. Their scents merged in the air, creating a seductive aroma that made both of them feel scorched by fire. Uncomfortable herself, Qin Shujian’s tone became a bit irritable: Ye Fan, stay away from me.
Ye Fan knew she couldn’t touch her pregnant wife, but without her comfort, she felt like a three-hundred-pound giant of a baby. She didn’t want this either. After this happened a few times, Ye Fan sought out Huai Zilin.
“Doctor, I can’t control my pheromones well, so they often go out of control. Every time it happens, it affects my wife too. Is there any good solution for this?”
Huai Zilin looked at Ye Fan’s distressed expression with amusement. She had watched Shujian grow up and had expected her to find a decisive, powerful Alpha. She hadn’t expected her to find someone as “young” as Ye Fan. Though soft-tempered, she was quite cute to interact with.
Seeing she wasn’t speaking, Ye Fan called out, “Doctor?”
Huai Zilin snapped out of it and smiled. “There is no other way; you can only use suppressants.” She took a row of vials from her medical bag and handed them to Ye Fan. “This is a new suppressant developed by my team. It won’t affect your health even with long-term use. Use this until you learn to control your pheromones.”
Looking at the row of needles, Ye Fan’s face crumpled. “Is there really no other way besides needles?”
“No.”
Ye Fan took the suppressants with a trembling hand, feeling like she was going to cry at the thought of having to jab herself every time she lost control.
Meanwhile, Qin Huaili hadn’t received a call from Li Jinghui for several days—not even a message demanding money. He felt a lurking unease. The couple decided to call Li Jinghui, but they couldn’t reach him no matter what. Now they couldn’t sit still.
Qin Huaili’s face was dark. “Li Jinghui might have been caught.”
Li Zhenfang was in a panic, pacing the room. “Do you think he’s already sold us out?”
“If he had, we wouldn’t be here now. But your cousin wanted to sell us out before; even if he hasn’t spoken yet, he won’t hold out for long.”
“We have to find him quickly! And then…” Li Zhenfang stopped abruptly and made a throat-slitting gesture.
Qin Huaili’s gaze darkened. “It’s our only option.”
Just as he spoke, a knock sounded at the door. Their conversation wasn’t meant for the light of day; hearing the sound, Qin Huaili turned with a fierce tone.
“Who is it?”
Qin Huaiyi stopped knocking. He sensed something was off from the tone. The door was pulled open, and seeing Qin Huaili’s tense face, he gave a reassuring smile.
“Brother, it’s me.”
Seeing it was his second brother, Qin Huaili relaxed his stance. He stepped aside to let him in. “Why have you come, Brother? Without a word?”
“I wanted to ask if you’ve heard any rumors about Qin Shujian lately.”
Huaili had been busy trying to raise money for his gambling debts and hadn’t paid any attention to Shujian. He was a bit dazed. “What’s wrong with her? What happened?”
Huaiyi frowned. “You don’t know? Little Sister gave an order: no one can go to the third floor of Shujian’s villa without her permission.”
Li Zhenfang’s expression tightened. “Is she about to wake up?”
If that were true, everything they had done would be in vain, and they would have lost a man for nothing.
Huaiyi looked solemn. Qin Wan was wary of both of them. He couldn’t check on Shujian’s condition, but given the level of security, he could guess. “I don’t know what happened, but it’s likely related to her health. Otherwise, Sister wouldn’t suddenly change the medical team and bar everyone from seeing her.”
Huaili had just learned Li Jinghui was in trouble, and now Qin Wan was making moves; he was filled with suspicion, wondering if the two were linked. The three of them sat in a heavy, unpleasant silence.
After a long time, Li Zhenfang broke the quiet. “Sitting here won’t help. How about I go test the waters and see if I can find anything useful?”
“That sounds good,” Huaiyi agreed. “Go ahead, Sister-in-law. Brother and I will wait for your news.”
Qin Wan knew her brothers disliked her and was always on guard. Huaiyi had tried to pry before, only to be stopped and pushed back by her. Li Zhenfang was Huaili’s wife, but it was worth a try. After preparing some tonics, she went to the villa.
There weren’t many servants around. Li Zhenfang reached the second floor, and seeing no one was watching, she happily prepared to sneak up to the third. But before her foot could touch the step, Housekeeper Su came down from above.
Li Zhenfang froze and gave a forced smile. “Housekeeper Su.”
Su Yu’s face was indifferent. She looked at her and asked, “Madam Li, were you going up?”
“Yes,” Li Zhenfang said, lifting the tonics. “I bought some supplements. Since Shujian hasn’t recovered, I wanted to see if they could help her.”
Su Yu’s expression remained flat. she reached out toward her. “You are very thoughtful. Just leave them with me; I will take them up for you.”
Li Zhenfang didn’t hand them over, instead gripping them tighter. “No need. It’s only a few steps; I’ll take them up myself. I haven’t seen her in so long and I’m worried.”
Su Yu’s tone grew cold. “President Qin has given orders: no one is allowed on the third floor without her permission.”
“I’m just seeing her; I won’t do anything. Housekeeper Su, let me up.”
Su Yu was unmoved. “This is President Qin’s order. Please do not make things difficult for me.”
Li Zhenfang looked angry, suppressing her rage. “Housekeeper Su, I am Shujian’s aunt. You are just a housekeeper. Do you really mean to stop me from seeing my niece?!”
“You are right, Madam; I am just a housekeeper and cannot make decisions on this matter. If you must see the Eldest Miss, please come with me to see President Qin.” Su Yu made an inviting gesture. “She is in the study. Please follow me.”
Hearing that she’d have to see Qin Wan, Li Zhenfang panicked. She could try to pressure a housekeeper with her status, but facing Qin Wan, she didn’t know what might be said.
