A Rich Family’s Matrilocal Alpha Married to a Vegetative Omega - Chapter 22
Qin Wan took two steps toward the door but stopped. She turned back to look at Ye Fan, her gaze as cold and ruthless as a wintry wind sweeping through Ye Fan’s heart.
“I do not wish for a third person to know that Shujian can perceive the outside world.”
Ye Fan hurriedly raised her hand in a vow. “Rest assured, Madam, I won’t say a word.”
Only after issuing this threat did Qin Wan depart, leaving the room in a heavy silence.
Ye Fan cleared her throat twice and sat on the edge of the bed. The woman on the bed lay still, her features appearing peaceful and serene, but Ye Fan knew this was merely a facade.
“Um, don’t be too sad. Madam Qin actually had your best interests in mind when she did that.”
“My best interests? No, everything she does is solely for the sake of the Qin family. I am nothing compared to the company.” Qin Shujian’s voice was laced with a hint of mockery, beneath which lay an unmaskable disappointment and exhaustion.
As the saying goes, the onlooker sees clearly while the involved are confused.
From Madam Qin’s perspective, with Qin Shujian unable to wake up and outsiders watching like hawks, her approach was the most optimal solution. The only mistake was being too autocratic and failing to consider Qin Shujian’s feelings.
Ye Fan scratched her head, offering a clumsy comfort. “Look, the Qin family is so prominent; so many people are watching from the shadows. If Madam Qin loses control over the family, your situation would become very dangerous.”
“You’re so beautiful. If someone with ill intentions got to you, well… Madam Qin keeping the power in her hands allows her to better arrange people to protect you.”
Although Qin Shujian hadn’t let go of her prejudice against Madam Qin, hearing Ye Fan’s comfort gradually smoothed out her irritable and sorrowful emotions. She felt much better.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve smelled the fragrance of hyacinths.”
“I’ll buy them! I’ll go to the flower shop tomorrow!”
Ye Fan breathed a sigh of relief and grinned. She would do anything to make her wife happy. In fact, if it weren’t so late and the shop hadn’t closed, Ye Fan would have gone right then.
The night passed quickly. The next morning, Ye Fan went to the flower shop as soon as she woke up.
Wei Rou was in her usual spot, sitting in her wheelchair and tending to the fresh flowers. However, this time the gloom on her face had significantly lessened. Wei Xing was standing right by her side.
Madam Qin hadn’t broken her word; she had released Wei Xing!
Ye Fan stepped forward happily to greet them. “This is great! Wei Xing, you’re back.”
This time, Wei Xing wasn’t as warm as before. She only gave Ye Fan a cold look. Wei Rou, however, turned her head at the sound; seeing it was Ye Fan, her expression became very gentle.
Ye Fan had promised just yesterday to find Wei Xing, and then Wei Xing returned that very night. Wei Rou didn’t need to think twice to know that Ye Fan had played a part.
“You’re here. Are you buying flowers for your Omega again?”
“Yes!” Ye Fan nodded. “I’m here to buy some hyacinths to take back, and also to see how Wei Xing is doing.”
Wei Rou was very enthusiastic. “The shop just opened, and I haven’t brought the hyacinths out yet. Wait here; I’ll go get them for you now.”
Ye Fan nodded. “Okay, thanks for the trouble.”
Wei Rou turned her wheelchair toward the back garden of the shop. Only Ye Fan and Wei Xing were left in the store. Ye Fan walked up with a smile and casually draped an arm over Wei Xing’s shoulder.
“You have no idea how worried we were during this time. I’m so glad you’re okay.”
Wei Xing slapped Ye Fan’s hand off her shoulder. her voice was ice-cold and devoid of emotion: “Even if you are married to the Eldest Miss, if you harbor any improper thoughts toward her, I will absolutely not let you off!”
Ye Fan felt a surge of anger. She had worried about Wei Xing for so long, negotiated with Madam Qin, and even told her the secret about the mind-reading just to save her. In the end, Wei Xing was out, but she chose to threaten her immediately.
Remembering the way Wei Xing had looked at Qin Shujian in the hospital, Ye Fan felt even more uncomfortable.
“I was the one who negotiated and maneuvered with Madam Qin to get her to release you. If you don’t want to say thank you, fine, but you’re actually threatening me?”
Wei Xing was unmoved and let out a cold snort. “Even if you hadn’t saved me, I would have found a way out myself.”
“If you could have gotten out yourself, you would have done it long ago. Would you really have waited for me to save you?” Ye Fan was huffing with indignation. She had talked until her lips were dry to save Wei Xing, yet this woman was all talk and no action. Besides…
“Shujian and I are legally married. Our business is none of your concern as an outsider!”
Wei Xing was instantly incensed by these words. Her delicate face became increasingly cold and rigid. “The Eldest Miss never agreed to marry you. She doesn’t like you; this was all Madam Qin’s arrangement!”
Ye Fan fired back without backing down. “How do you know Shujian doesn’t like me?”
If Qin Shujian could move right now, Ye Fan would have loved to drag her over immediately to declare her sovereignty in front of Wei Xing.
The two glared at each other, the atmosphere in the room so tense it felt like it could ignite at any second. However, just then, Wei Rou walked in carrying a pot of flowers.
Seeing that neither of their expressions was good, she asked with concern, “What’s wrong?”
Ye Fan shook her head. “It’s nothing. Thank you for the flowers; my wife will definitely like them.”
Ye Fan emphasized the word “wife” specifically. Upon hearing this, Wei Xing’s face turned as dark as the bottom of a pot, and she gave Ye Fan several fierce glares.
Having obtained the flowers, Ye Fan had no intention of tangling further with Wei Xing. She paid quickly and left the flower shop.
Ye Fan was fuming, muttering her complaints to herself as she walked, when she suddenly heard someone call her: “Ye Fan!”
“Eh? Who’s calling me?”
Ye Fan turned around, but the moment she saw Zhao Yusze, she regretted it and had the urge to bolt.
Zhao Yusze took a few steps toward her. She had made an appointment with Ye Fan when she visited the Qin house, but she had waited a long time and Ye Fan never showed up, which had made her uneasy.
She frowned slightly. “Ye Fan, why didn’t you come to our meeting that day? Did something happen?”
Ye Fan felt a lump in her throat. She couldn’t exactly say her wife wouldn’t let her see Zhao Yusze.
“Well…” Ye Fan didn’t know how to explain.
Seeing Ye Fan’s hesitation, Zhao Yusze became even more anxious. Her eyes reddened, and she looked frail and piteous.
“Speak to me, Ye Fan. Why didn’t you come to see me?”
“I’m married now. It’s better if we don’t meet in private anymore.”
Ye Fan gave Zhao Yusze a conflicted look. She knew saying this was unfair to her, but she said it anyway.
Zhao Yusze was shocked. She hadn’t expected that their feelings would change so abruptly after such a short separation.
“Ye Fan, how can you say that? Did the Qin family do something to you? Tell me, we can find a way together.” Zhao Yusze could no longer hold back her tears, and they began to pour down.
Seeking comfort, she took a step forward and tried to throw herself into Ye Fan’s arms, but almost the instant Zhao Yusze lunged, Ye Fan pushed her away.
Zhao Yusze, caught completely off guard, tumbled to the ground and looked at Ye Fan in disbelief.
“Ye Fan? What on earth is wrong with you?”
Ye Fan knew she had overreacted, but if her wife knew she had hugged another woman, she would definitely be unhappy.
“The Qin family hasn’t done anything to me. It’s just that I’m married now, and it’s inappropriate for you to do such things with me. I cannot betray my wife.”
Zhao Yusze stood up from the ground. “Then are you going to betray me? We were the ones who were supposed to be together!”
Although Ye Fan knew she was letting down the original owner and Zhao Yusze, she was the one in this body now. Since she was married to Qin Shujian, she had to be responsible to her.
Ye Fan’s tone was firm. “I am already married. What happened between us is in the past. I hope you can move on.”
Zhao Yusze’s face was full of resentment. She wiped her tears and choked out, “Fine. I understand. I will move on, but I hope you can come home with me for one last meal.”
“This…” Ye Fan hesitated. Her wife didn’t like her having contact with others; if she knew she went to an ex-girlfriend’s house for dinner, she would be upset.
The tears Zhao Yusze had just stopped showed signs of flowing again. “We’ve known each other for so long. Now that you’ve married someone else, are you not even willing to have one last meal with me?”
The original owner had committed suicide by hitting her head precisely because she was forced to marry Qin Shujian and didn’t want to betray Zhao Yusze. Coupled with the guilt Ye Fan already felt toward her, she found it hard to refuse seeing Zhao Yusze in such a state.
“Alright. Just one meal. But don’t come looking for me again after this.”
“Okay.” Zhao Yusze agreed readily.
Her home wasn’t far away; they arrived by car in no time.
Ye Fan stood at the door feeling quite awkward. Her reactions naturally fell into Zhao Yusze’s eyes. Zhao Yusze’s gaze darkened as she pushed the door wider.
“Come in.”
Since she had already come this far, Ye Fan couldn’t turn back now. She gritted her teeth and stepped inside.
“Just treat it like your own home. Sit down; I’ll go cook.”
Following Zhao Yusze’s voice, the door behind Ye Fan slammed shut with a clack, making Ye Fan’s heart skip a beat along with it.
“Okay.” Ye Fan sat stiffly on the sofa, her back ramrod straight and her hands clasped tightly. She looked incredibly nervous.
Zhao Yusze stole a glance at Ye Fan and walked into the kitchen in silence. She didn’t prepare anything complicated; in about half an hour, several home-cooked dishes were ready, their inviting aroma wafting from the kitchen.
Once the food was done, Zhao Yusze took a transparent glass bottle from a cabinet shelf. With an expressionless face, she poured the contents over every single dish.
In truth, according to Zhao Yusze’s original plan, this wouldn’t have been necessary. But if she hadn’t been forced into a corner…
Zhao Yusze’s gaze darkened. Ever since Ye Fan had cut contact with the Ye family and moved into the Qin residence, it had been very difficult to reach her. If she hadn’t happened to run into Ye Fan on the street today, she didn’t know when they would see each other again.
Moreover, Ye Fan was now desperate to sever their relationship. If she didn’t seize this opportunity, she and Ye Fan would likely have no future together.
The liquid from the bottle slowly blended into every dish, colorless and odorless.
She tidied up her expression, put on a smile, and carried the dishes to the dining table.
Tonight, I must make Ye Fan mark me.
