A Rich Family’s Matrilocal Alpha Married to a Vegetative Omega - Chapter 19
Ye Fan flopped down beside Qin Shujian, looking utterly defeated and crestfallen.
“It’s my fault. I didn’t make it clear to Wei Xing that you hadn’t woken up yet, which forced her to change the plan on the fly and got her dragged into this.”
Feeling the fuzzy head resting against her hand, Qin Shujian’s heart softened. Even though she knew it would be difficult to escape now, she couldn’t bring herself to blame Ye Fan.
“Don’t be so hard on yourself. This isn’t your fault; we just had a stroke of bad luck.”
Following the incident, Ye Fan lost her right to go outside. Qin Wan’s surveillance over both of them became even more stringent, leaving them with zero opportunity to flee. Furthermore, the originally scheduled date for egg retrieval was moved up significantly.
Three days later, the doctors led Ye Fan and Qin Shujian to two different operating rooms. Inside were not just doctors and nurses, but Qin family bodyguards standing watch outside.
The doctor had clearly been instructed by Qin Wan. Seeing Ye Fan standing still, fearing she might cause trouble again, he urged: “Miss Ye, please lie down. If you don’t move, I’ll have to ask the Qin family men to help you.”
Ye Fan let out a helpless sigh. Knowing there was no way out, she obediently lay on the surgical bed.
The retrieval process went smoothly. In less than half an hour, the doctor had retrieved the necessary eggs and placed them in a temperature-controlled box.
Ye Fan had been getting injections for days, and combined with the retrieval today, she was completely drained. She was sent back to the ward and placed on the bed right next to Qin Shujian.
By the time she returned, Qin Shujian was already back in her bed. Looking at her unresponsive wife, Ye Fan asked worriedly, “Shujian, how are you? Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?”
Having just had her eggs retrieved, Qin Shujian felt as if a heavy dark cloud was hanging over her. She forced herself to sound calm and said, “I’m fine.”
Ye Fan keenly sensed that her wife was feeling low. Enduring her own physical discomfort, she got off the bed and sat on the edge of Qin Shujian’s bed.
She gently took Qin Shujian’s hand, trying to comfort her. “I know you didn’t want a child at a time like this, but cultivating an embryo isn’t that easy. Maybe it’ll fail this time.”
However, Ye Fan’s words failed to soothe her. As Qin Wan’s daughter, Shujian knew her mother’s character all too well. Once Qin Wan set a goal, she would never give up easily.
Qin Shujian let out a soft sigh, her voice tinged with helplessness. “Even if it doesn’t succeed this time, there’s a next time, and a time after that. If it doesn’t work with you, Mother might find someone else to come in and match their genes with mine. No matter what, Mother won’t give up on cultivating this child—unless I wake up.”
Hearing Qin Shujian say she might cultivate a child with someone else made Ye Fan feel uneasy. For a moment, she didn’t know whether she wanted the process to succeed or fail.
“Let’s not talk about us. The eggs have been taken, and whether it succeeds is out of our control. I just wonder how Wei Xing is doing now.”
Ye Fan sighed. “I hope she’s okay. After all, she was caught by Madam Qin because of us.”
After the procedure, the two only rested in the hospital for one day before Madam Qin sent them back to the villa to resume their previous life.
However, Ye Fan was no longer as free as she had been before the hospital trip. Because of what happened, she was under strict surveillance. The moment she stepped out of Qin Shujian’s room, bodyguards would trail her; she couldn’t shake them off no matter what.
The guards followed her everywhere, which caused her a great deal of distress.
At lunch, Ye Fan looked at the vegetables on her plate, her brow furrowed into a deep frown of pure disdain.
“My burgers, my cola, my fried chicken… I haven’t seen them in so long. And I haven’t bought flowers for Shujian in ages. Housekeeper Su, can you be flexible today? Let me out for a bit, just a little while! I promise I’m just buying things and won’t do anything else!”
Housekeeper Su stood beside her. Hearing this, she gave Ye Fan a sidelong glance and said nothing, but the meaning in her eyes was crystal clear.
Seeing that the path outside was blocked, Ye Fan simply looked up and asked, “Housekeeper Su, you remember the person you caught at the hospital, right?”
Housekeeper Su gave a light “mm” in response.
Ye Fan studied her face but couldn’t read anything. Dejected, she asked, “Then, Housekeeper Su, do you know where Wei Xing is now? Have you locked her up?”
Seeing Su Yu remain silent, Ye Fan grew anxious. “Locking someone up privately isn’t right. Madam Qin should know that.”
“Besides, you’ve already gotten the eggs. There’s no point in keeping Wei Xing locked up anymore. Why don’t you let her go? She is, after all, your Eldest Miss’s friend…”
Ye Fan rambled on incessantly, hoping Qin Wan would let Wei Xing go.
“These are not matters for you to inquire about. Just stay here quietly,” Housekeeper Su interrupted, turning to leave with an expressionless face.
“Housekeeper Su, I beg you, please let her go! This is all my fault.” Ye Fan grabbed Su Yu’s sleeve, her tone so piteous that anyone else would find it hard to refuse.
This tactic might have worked on Qin Shujian, but it was useless against Housekeeper Su.
Housekeeper Su coldly pulled her hem from Ye Fan’s hand. She was the Qin family’s housekeeper; without Qin Wan’s orders, she would tell Ye Fan nothing about Wei Xing’s situation.
Watching Housekeeper Su’s departing back, Ye Fan was full of helplessness. She was so annoyed she didn’t eat and went back to the room.
The moment she returned, she pounced to Qin Shujian’s bedside.
“I just wanted to know how Wei Xing is doing. Why won’t Housekeeper Su even tell me that!”
Qin Shujian knew Su Yu’s temperament well and comforted Ye Fan. “Housekeeper Su is Mother’s person. Everything she does follows Mother’s orders. If Mother doesn’t want anyone to tell you, it’s useless to ask her.”
Ye Fan felt dejected. “Shujian, are you worried about Wei Xing?”
“What if I am? I can’t do anything as I am now.”
The atmosphere in the room turned stagnant at her words.
“Shujian, the Qin family has such good resources, you’ll definitely recover!” Ye Fan took Qin Shujian’s hand. The warmth from their touching skin traveled to Shujian’s hand, warming her heart as well.
Aside from going downstairs to eat, Ye Fan spent every day getting clingy with Qin Shujian in the room. Sometimes when they watched movies, she would thoughtfully explain the scenes on the screen to her.
Time flew by, and another month of this peaceful life passed until Housekeeper Su approached Ye Fan.
“The embryo cultivation was successful. It has now been implanted into an artificial womb. You and the Eldest Miss will soon have a child.”
Ye Fan was happily gnawing on a chicken leg, but upon hearing Housekeeper Su’s news, she froze, completely forgetting about her food.
She asked in disbelief, “You’re not joking, are you? It was that easy?”
Housekeeper Su was expressionless. “I never joke.”
Ye Fan hadn’t expected the embryo cultivation to actually succeed on the first try. The chicken leg in her hand suddenly lost its flavor.
Regardless, this child belonged to her and her wife. She felt it was necessary for her wife to know.
After wiping her greasy fingers clean, Ye Fan rushed back to the room to break the startling news.
This time, Qin Shujian didn’t respond immediately. Ye Fan waited for a long time without a reply and asked anxiously, “Shujian, are you asleep?”
Finally, Qin Shujian spoke, but her voice sounded a bit dazed: “We… we’re having a child just like that?”
It was the first time Ye Fan had heard her wife speak in such a tone. It seemed she wasn’t the only one shocked.
Qin Shujian liked Ye Fan and wasn’t opposed to having a child with her, but she felt this child shouldn’t have appeared at this time. She wasn’t prepared for anything, yet she was already going to be a mother.
Thinking about having a child together, both of them felt a sense of bewilderment. Nothing had actually happened between them; Qin Shujian hadn’t even seen Ye Fan with her own eyes.
After a day of processing, they finally accepted the fact that they were going to have a child. Consequently, the surveillance on Ye Fan was relaxed.
Now that she was no longer of immediate “utility,” the bodyguards who used to trail her no longer watched her so closely. Ye Fan could finally go out normally.
The moment she regained her freedom, she went straight to the flower shop.
Wei Rou was in her usual spot, sitting in her wheelchair and tending to the flowers, but she looked much less vibrant than before.
“Wei Rou?”
Hearing the voice, Wei Rou turned. A flash of joy crossed her eyes when she saw Ye Fan. “It’s you!”
“It’s me. I wanted to know if Wei Xing has returned?”
At the mention of Wei Xing, Wei Rou’s brow furrowed, her heart tossing like a small boat in a storm.
“Ever since that day Sister said she was going out for business, I haven’t seen her. I can’t reach her by phone either. Can you help me find her? I’m so worried.”
Ye Fan hadn’t expected that even after the embryo was successfully cultivated, Wei Xing still wouldn’t be back. Was she truly being kept prisoner by Madam Qin?
Wei Rou only knew that Wei Xing had gone to do something for Ye Fan, but she didn’t know where she went or what she was doing.
Right now, Ye Fan was her only hope of finding her sister. She urgently grabbed Ye Fan’s arm. “Tell me, where did my sister go? Did something happen to her?”
Looking at the worry-filled Wei Rou, Ye Fan didn’t know if she should tell her the truth.
