A Rich Family’s Matrilocal Alpha Married to a Vegetative Omega - Chapter 17
Ye Fan froze. She didn’t have the guts to admit it, but she didn’t dare to lie either. Her blank expression looked somewhat comical.
Qin Shujian let out a cold snort, thoroughly enraged now. This was the first time Ye Fan had seen her this angry; the more she tried to coax her, the angrier Qin Shujian became. With no other choice, Ye Fan finally shut her mouth.
She had originally been curious about the “secret” Zhao Yusze mentioned, but now she didn’t dare ask. She felt that if she did, her death wouldn’t be far off.
The air grew quiet. Ye Fan was restless, but no matter how she tried to play nice, Qin Shujian’s response remained ice-cold.
Ye Fan sighed in distress. The two began a cold war—or rather, Qin Shujian unilaterally ignored her. Ye Fan didn’t sleep well at all that night, and early the next morning, she was dragged off for a physical exam by a knock on the door.
Housekeeper Su stared at her dark circles and told Ye Fan to go to bed earlier and stop staying up late, otherwise, the Qin family would activate a signal jammer next time.
…Ye Fan really wanted to explain that it wasn’t because of that, but her mouth opened and closed without finding anything to say.
She grew more dejected, unable to figure out why she was always the one getting shut down. As it turned out, this wasn’t even the worst part.
When the exam results came out, the smile on the doctor’s face widened. He said cheerfully, “Miss Ye’s physical indicators are all normal. If there are no issues, we can transfer the Eldest Miss to the hospital tomorrow to prepare for egg retrieval.”
Ye Fan’s eyes widened instantly. “No way,” she blurted out, but her refusal didn’t even earn a glance from Housekeeper Su or the doctor. The two directly ignored her, discussing the handover process as if no one else were there.
Ye Fan hunched her shoulders, feeling a wave of horror. She couldn’t stay in this place a moment longer and said hurriedly, “I-I’ll go back first…”
Neither of them stopped her. Ye Fan rushed upstairs to tell Qin Shujian the news.
Actually, it wouldn’t have mattered if she hadn’t; Qin Shujian was bound to be scheduled for an exam anyway. But if she didn’t speak up, Ye Fan truly wouldn’t know what to do. She was terrified.
However, at this moment, her worry felt a bit “off” to Qin Shujian. She suddenly didn’t understand why Ye Fan was resisting so much.
In Ye Fan’s own descriptions, wasn’t she her “favorite, favorite person”? If she “liked her very, very much,” why was she so nervous?
Qin Shujian admitted she was being a bit pedantic. Clearly, she was the one who had stubbornly demanded they absolutely couldn’t have a child in the first place.
But she was just… angry.
Her heart was full of gloom, and her tone was freezing. She told Ye Fan to notify Wei Xing as soon as possible. After all—”What can I do as a vegetable? Find a way to make Wei Xing move faster.”
There was a hint of sarcasm in her voice. Ye Fan’s heart tightened; she felt she should offer some comfort, but Qin Shujian urged her instead: “What are you dazing for? You’ve finished your exam, now is a good chance. Find a way to get the message out.”
“O… Okay,” Ye Fan could only nod.
She went downstairs to ask Su Yu for leave. Her strange expression from earlier hadn’t escaped Su Yu’s eyes. The housekeeper narrowed her eyes and asked back, “What are you going out for at a time like this?”
Ye Fan struggled to maintain her composure. “I’m a bit uneasy right now and want to clear my head… is that not allowed?”
Su Yu’s gaze scanned Ye Fan from head to toe. Ye Fan tried her best to keep her expression unchanged, but it felt like a century had passed before Su Yu finally nodded and said flatly, “Then take the bodyguards with you. No objections, right?”
“Of course not,” Ye Fan nodded firmly. After leaving the house, she felt something was wrong. On her previous outings, Su Yu had asked questions, but never with this much scrutiny.
Was it because the “important time” was near?
Then… given Housekeeper Su’s caution, would she arrange secret tails to follow her?
Ye Fan felt like her head was going to explode. She was really not suited for this “Mission Impossible” vibe. She spent a long time twisting and turning, visiting several flower shops before finally arriving at Wei Xing’s place.
I hope this diversion worked, Ye Fan thought.
That night, Qin Shujian remained silent. Ye Fan felt a bit bitter; she wanted to talk to her but got no response, so she waited miserably until the next day.
Early the next morning, Qin Wan returned and arranged for Qin Shujian and Ye Fan to be “packaged” together and sent to the hospital.
Ye Fan stayed with Qin Shujian in the ward while bodyguards stood watch outside. From time to time, various fancy instruments were brought in to perform checks on Qin Shujian.
Not knowing what they were checking, Ye Fan stood to the side wearing a mask, dazing out. Listening to the sound of pens scratching on paper and the hushed discussions about the right timing only gave her a headache.
Fortunately, after the check-up, most of the people left the ward. Ye Fan had just breathed a sigh of relief when, not long after, a person dressed as a nurse entered.
She thought it was another check-up, but then the person removed her mask. Only then did Ye Fan realize those eyes were terrifyingly familiar—wasn’t that Wei Xing from the flower shop?
Ye Fan’s eyes went wide with disbelief. Wei Xing, however, didn’t have the time to pay her any mind; she stared blankly at Qin Shujian and suddenly burst into tears.
Ye Fan was still in shock that Wei Xing had managed to blend in as a nurse, and now she was even more stunned.
Even though she had never been a subordinate nor had any subordinates of her own—she clearly understood that a normal boss-employee relationship wouldn’t be this moving. Wei Xing had previously been a cool, decisive “big sister” type, but seeing Qin Shujian, she had turned into this…
Realizing their relationship might not be simple, Ye Fan felt a sour twinge in her heart. She even started counting on her fingers: one Li Wei, one Wei Xing.
Shujian certainly has a lot of “peach blossoms” (admirers)…
After a moment’s delay, Qin Shujian couldn’t take it anymore and urged Ye Fan to get to the point.
Ye Fan snapped out of it and hurriedly whispered, “Miss Wei, have you thought of a way to get us out?”
Wei Xing took a deep breath. “You didn’t tell me the Eldest Miss hadn’t woken up yet. The plan needs a small adjustment. Listen to me…”
Hearing this, Ye Fan felt a bit guilty. She nodded and listened carefully to Wei Xing’s plan, memorizing the important timestamps one by one and confirming them with her.
Everything seemed calm, but just as Ye Fan was about to ask about a small detail, faint footsteps sounded outside the door.
Wei Xing immediately shut her mouth and lowered her head to leave. To their surprise, Qin Wan entered directly with the doctor the next second. She swept a cold gaze around and then locked her eyes on the “nurse” who hadn’t had time to leave. Her voice was icy: “They said to leave after the check-up. What are you still doing here?”
When that voice came out, Ye Fan didn’t know how Wei Xing felt, but she—having a guilty conscience—was instantly broken into a cold sweat.
But Wei Xing was clearly experienced. She looked up with an air of complete bewilderment, glanced at Qin Wan, then lowered her head and said calmly, “The patient’s nutritional drip was running too fast. I just checked on it.”
Hearing this, Qin Wan looked at the doctor. The doctor understood, came over to check the equipment, and said, “No problem.”
Only then did Qin Wan nod and let the nurse leave.
During this whole process, Ye Fan was standing there—a whole living person—yet none of their gazes landed on her. Ye Fan felt completely ignored.
Surprisingly, Qin Shujian read her mind and chose this moment to remind her: “My mother thinks you are cowardly and not worth fearing. It’s a good thing she isn’t on guard against you.”
That was a real “heart-piercing” comment. Ye Fan held her shattered heart and silently stepped aside, leaving plenty of room for the doctor and Madam Qin.
Sure enough, Qin Wan didn’t have Ye Fan in her eyes at all, as if Qin Shujian was the only living person in the ward. She didn’t even bother to ask Ye Fan anything.
Ye Fan felt incredibly stifled, but she soon regretted wanting attention—after checking on Qin Shujian, Qin Wan and the doctor finally acknowledged her. However, Qin Wan’s next sentence was: “Take her to get her injection.”
…It would have been better to be ignored. Was her only sense of presence being a tool for injections?!
Ye Fan was filled with grief and indignation, but she was powerless to resist. She was led out of the ward and given her shot.
By the time she returned after the injection, Ye Fan’s eyes were already red. She huddled piteously next to Qin Shujian’s bed.
If Ye Fan could have endured Qin Shujian’s cold tone before, after the pheromone stimulant, she had entered her “Susceptibility Period.”
An Alpha in their susceptibility period without an Omega’s comfort feels worse than being sick. Ye Fan was shedding tears, acting aggrieved. She wanted to lean in and get clingy with Qin Shujian, but remembering she was angry, she carefully kept a small distance.
Only Ye Fan knew how much of this was real and how much was act, but it must be said—Qin Shujian was a sucker for this.
After all, they had been in a cold war for half a day and a night. From the looks of it, Ye Fan seemed to know she was wrong. Qin Shujian’s tone gradually softened, but she still brought up the old grievance, asking first: “What exactly is the deal with that ex-girlfriend of yours? She came to find you? Wanted you to elope with her? You two didn’t… sleep together, did you?”
Qin Shujian pointedly emphasized the word “sleep” with great concern. Such directness made Ye Fan a bit shy; she shook her head with a flushed face.
“Believe me, I’m also a ‘first kiss’…”
Her tone was sweet, as if she were actually quite happy about it. But that didn’t coax Qin Shujian; the moment she thought of that unfamiliar perfume on Ye Fan, her anger flared up again.
