A Rich Family’s Matrilocal Alpha Married to a Vegetative Omega - Chapter 29
Qin Huaiyi’s words gave Qin Huaili an idea: he could kidnap Qin Shujian to demand money from Qin Wan and force her to let him leave the country.
Qin Wan treasured Qin Shujian so much that she certainly wouldn’t let him harm her and would agree to his demands; furthermore, Qin Wan had recently gone abroad for business, and a vegetative Qin Shujian was nothing to fear.
Over the years, Qin Huaili had built up some of his own influence within the Qin family, and although he had fled the household, his subordinates were still there.
With Qin Wan out of the country, only Su Yu remained at the Qin house; it was impossible for her to uproot the influence he had left behind so quickly.
He still had a chance!
After hanging up on Qin Huaiyi, Qin Huaili immediately called a trusted subordinate.
The subordinate was somewhat surprised to receive the call. “Director Huaili?”
Accustomed to being a superior, Qin Huaili directly commanded his subordinate: “I will return to the Qin house tomorrow night at 9:00 PM. Find a way to meet me at the left gate and prepare a car for me; make sure you aren’t discovered.”
“The police are looking for you, and Madam Li has already been taken into custody. It will be very dangerous for you to return to the Qin house at this time.”
The subordinate’s worried voice came through the phone, but it didn’t deter Qin Huaili; instead, it made his expression more resolute.
The most dangerous place is often the safest; Su Yu would likely never imagine he would dare return home at this time, and besides…
“It is precisely at times like this that one must go back. Just do as I requested.”
The subordinate didn’t understand Qin Huaili’s logic but complied anyway: “Alright, I understand.”
Hanging up the phone, Qin Huaili didn’t feel any sense of relief; his face was solemn as he waited quietly for tomorrow to arrive.
Time passed in a flash, and at 9:00 PM, Qin Huaili appeared on time near the left gate of the Qin residence.
The left gate was in a remote location and far from any bus stops, so even the servants of the Qin family rarely used it.
In the misty night, Qin Huaili wore all black, hiding behind a tree not far from the gate.
Before long, he saw his subordinate peeking out from the left gate. Qin Huaili waited a moment, and seeing no one else appeared, he stepped out from behind the tree.
“Director Huaili, you’re here.” The subordinate spoke, handing a set of clothes to Qin Huaili. “These are servant’s clothes, and the car keys are inside. Everyone is looking for you right now; you should change first to avoid being recognized.”
The subordinate gave him the clothes worn by the cleaning staff—dull grey with a face mask.
In the past, Qin Huaili wouldn’t have even touched such clothes, but these were special circumstances; he suppressed his disgust and pulled the outfit on over his clothes.
The two walked in through the left gate, and Qin Huaili lowered his head, asking in a low voice: “Has there been any movement from Qin Shujian’s side while I was gone?”
“No, it’s the same as before you left.”
Hearing that there was no movement from Shujian, Qin Huaili felt slightly more at ease, but there was still one problem…
Qin Huaili asked again: “Is Su Yu still guarding the third floor and barring everyone from going up?”
The subordinate nodded: “Yes. Aside from Housekeeper Su and the doctors treating the Eldest Miss, none of us can go up.”
Regarding the issue of Su Yu, Qin Huaili had thought about it before coming.
Qin Wan was currently away, so all the family’s affairs fell on Su Yu alone; if something happened in the household at this time, Su Yu would be spread too thin and would have to leave Shujian’s door.
Qin Huaili took out a lighter and tossed it to his subordinate: “I’m going to find Shujian. You use this to set the Orchid Courtyard on fire to create a distraction, understand?”
The subordinate caught the lighter: “Understood.”
Qin Huaili then gave further instructions for the aftermath, and the two separated.
Because it was very late, some of the servants had returned to their rooms, and Qin Huaili encountered very few people on the way; combined with his inconspicuous clothing, he easily entered the building where Shujian lived.
He wasn’t in a hurry to go to the third floor; instead, he found a storage room to wait in, quietly waiting for his subordinate to create the chaos.
The subordinate didn’t make him wait long. The fire alarm rang, and a commotion broke out outside; even Housekeeper Su on the third floor was alerted and came downstairs. Upon hearing that the Orchid Courtyard was on fire, Su Yu had to go deal with it first.
Qin Huaili waited secretly for Su Yu to leave before emerging from the storage room. While everyone was busy fighting the fire at the Orchid Courtyard, he walked up to the third floor.
There wasn’t a soul on the third floor. Qin Huaili’s leather shoes made a crisp sound against the wooden floorboards. A murderous light flashed in his eyes, and a vicious, cruel smile appeared on his face. Qin Shujian, oh Shujian, so what if you didn’t die in the accident? You’re about to fall into my hands anyway.
Step by step, he walked toward Shujian’s bedroom. Standing at the door, he turned the handle with a click and opened it.
The moonlight was blocked by heavy curtains, and the room was pitch black without any lights. Qin Huaili couldn’t see a thing.
He didn’t dare turn on the lights, so he took out his phone and used the faint glow of the screen to stumble his way to the bedside.
Qin Huaili looked at the faint bulge on the bed and excitedly threw back the quilt, but the next second, his smile froze instantly on his face.
Housekeeper Su had returned at some unknown moment and flicked on the light with a snap. Only then did Qin Huaili notice several people standing in the corner of the room, and his target was standing by the window.
In fact, shortly after Qin Huaili fled the house, Shujian had teamed up with Wei Xing and Housekeeper Su to secretly purge his influence; plus, with Li Zhenfang still at the house and unable to escape in time, Shujian had quickly figured out who his people were.
She wasn’t in a hurry to alert the enemy, but had Wei Xing send people to secretly monitor his subordinates.
When Qin Huaili called his subordinate earlier, Shujian already knew he was returning; she simply turned the tables, leading to the scene before him.
Shujian looked at Qin Huaili, a cold light flickering in her eyes as clear as the moon.
“Eldest Uncle, it’s been a long time.”
“Qin Shujian, you actually woke up?!” Qin Huaili’s eyes widened in shock, and he quickly realized the truth: “You set a trap to fool me!”
Wei Xing was also there, and she didn’t give the culprit who caused the accident a single ounce of courtesy.
“Qin Huaili, Li Jinghui and A-Hua have already confessed everything you made them do. You can’t escape; just surrender.”
Realizing things were wrong, Qin Huaili began to step back, but Housekeeper Su and her men were guarding the door; he had nowhere to retreat.
Every eye in the room was focused on him. Qin Huaili’s fists couldn’t help but clench; in this situation, he had very little chance of escaping.
A flattering smile appeared on his face. “Shujian, Shujian, I am your biological uncle. I was just momentarily possessed by greed and did something wrong. Please let me go this once, alright?”
“Sure, I can let you go.” Seeing the joy slowly color his expression, Shujian’s lips curled into a cold arc: “As long as you also go get hit by a car like that.”
Qin Huaili nearly lost his breath. He gritted his teeth, wanting to explode in anger, but with so many people present, he could only endure it.
He humbly apologized to Shujian: “Shujian, I truly know I was wrong. I will never move against you again. For the sake of me being your uncle, please let me go this time, okay?”
Ye Fan stood beside Shujian with her arms crossed, looking indignant. “When you were hiring people to strike at my wife, why didn’t you think about being her biological uncle then?”
Qin Huaili looked at Ye Fan; he was just a matrilocal son-in-law, yet he dared to lecture him at a time like this.
His gaze was fierce as he vented his rage on Ye Fan: “I am talking to Shujian. What right does a son-in-law like you have to butt in?”
Shujian let out a cold snort, her lunar-clear eyes flashing with icy light. “Uncle certainly has quite a temper. Ye Fan is my wife; is there anything improper about her speaking for me?”
Ye Fan’s eyes sparkled as she stared at Shujian without blinking. Her wife is so dominant! She loves it!
Qin Huaili hadn’t expected Shujian to protect Ye Fan so fiercely. His face twitched with suppressed rage, but he eventually swallowed his anger.
“There is nothing improper…”
He managed a forced smile and brought the topic back. “Shujian, I am your mother’s own brother. For your mother’s sake, let me go this once.”
“Uncle, do you think Mother doesn’t know what you’ve done?” Shujian sneered, not wanting to continue playing games with him. She said directly: “I have already sent the evidence of you poisoning Li Jinghui and arranging for him to tamper with my car to the police station. Uncle, just turn yourself in.”
The emotions Qin Huaili had been suppressing finally erupted completely.
“Qin Shujian, who do you think you are! If it weren’t for Father and Mother giving the group to Qin Wan, do you think you’d ever have become the heir?”
Shujian remained expressionless. “The position of President of the Qin Group has always belonged to those who are capable, and the same goes for the heir. If Uncle had a problem, he could have competed with Mother openly, instead of doing these things in the shadows.”
Unwilling to entangle further, Shujian gestured to Wei Xing, no longer even addressing him as “Uncle.”
“Take Qin Huaili away.”
Qin Huaili saw Wei Xing and Shujian’s men approaching him step by step. Cold sweat covered his forehead; if he were caught now, there would be no more chance to turn his life around!
The reason he was in this state was all because of Qin Shujian!
Qin Huaili looked up suddenly, his sinister eyes as terrifying as if they were bloodthirsty. A flash of silver was pulled from his pocket as he lunged frantically toward Shujian.
“Die!”
“Watch out!”
Time seemed to stretch infinitely in that moment. Ye Fan was standing right beside Shujian, and as Qin Huaili lunged, she spread her arms to shield Shujian behind her.
Wei Xing moved to restrain him at the same time, and the dagger in his hand went off-course, stabbing into Ye Fan’s shoulder.
Blood flowed from Ye Fan’s shoulder; that piercing red color scorched Shujian’s eyes.
“Ye Fan!”
Everyone in the room moved at once because of his action. They rushed toward him quickly. Qin Huaili’s face was distorted, veins bulging and eyes bloodshot.
No, he couldn’t be caught!
Driven to a corner, he turned his gaze to the only unguarded window. Gritting his teeth, he took a heartless leap out of it.
Although Shujian’s room was on the third floor, it wasn’t particularly high, and with a thick layer of landscaping lawn below, he only injured his leg. Other than that, he was fine.
Housekeeper Su looked solemn and quickly led her men downstairs to give chase. Wei Xing and Shujian stayed in the room to check on Ye Fan’s injury.
Shujian’s eyes were red as she helped Ye Fan onto the bed. “How are you? Does it hurt?”
Ye Fan’s lips were pale with pain, and fine sweat began to bead on her forehead. With such a long dagger having stabbed her, how could it not hurt?
But when her gaze met Shujian’s worried eyes, Ye Fan felt all the pain was worth it.
“Wife, I protected you.” Ye Fan’s voice was trembling with pain, yet a gentle smile flickered on her lips.
“You little dummy.” Shujian’s nose stung, and the tears she had been suppressing rolled down like pearls.
Wei Xing had never seen Shujian lose her composure like this before. Seeing her this way, she suddenly realized how important Ye Fan was to her.
Her gaze dimmed as she pursed her lips, finally suggesting: “Eldest Miss, let’s go to the hospital.”
“Alright!” Shujian said, helping Ye Fan up. “Ye Fan, we’re going to the hospital to let the doctors check you over properly.”
Two hours later, Ye Fan’s wound had been stitched, and she fell asleep on a hospital bed.
Housekeeper Su arrived at the hospital, her expression very unpleasant, her voice tinged with self-reproach. “Miss, Qin Huaili escaped.”
Shujian’s tightly knit brows turned into a hard knot. “He jumped from the third floor; even if he didn’t die, his legs must be affected. With so many of you, how did you let him escape?”
“A servant didn’t know the situation and helped him while passing by; that’s how he got away.”
Shujian glanced at the sleeping Ye Fan. The thought of the person who hurt her escaping made her expression very cold.
“The police department has already issued a warrant for him. Wei Xing, go to the police station tomorrow and add another three million to the reward. I will not let him go!”
The next morning, Wei Xing went to the police station to increase the bounty on Qin Huaili. Several days passed without anyone finding a trace of him, except for one surveillance clip showing him being pulled into a van.
Since the day she was stabbed, Ye Fan had been arranged to stay in the hospital, and Shujian stayed by her side the entire time, caring for her meticulously.
In the morning, a nurse came in with an IV bag to give Ye Fan an injection.
Ye Fan was terrified of needles and looked at Shujian with a crying face. “Wife, can we not do the injection?”
Shujian shook her head. “No. The injection is to prevent your wound from becoming inflamed or worsening; you must have it.”
“But I’m scared.” Ye Fan grabbed Shujian’s hand, her eyes watery as if she might cry at any moment.
Shujian’s heart softened. She placed her free hand behind Ye Fan’s neck and pulled her into a hug.
“Don’t be afraid. It won’t hurt.” While Shujian comforted her, she gave a look to the nurse.
The nurse was very skilled. Ye Fan was so immersed in Shujian’s beauty that before she could react, the drip had already been hooked up.
Only then did Shujian let her go, giving her a faint but gentle smile.
“There, I told you it wouldn’t hurt.”
At noon, the same nurse—who had already received a mouthful of “dog food” from the two—brought over the medicine Ye Fan needed to take.
Shujian tore open the packet, poured it into a bowl, and mixed it with hot water, waiting for it to cool slightly before handing it to Ye Fan.
Ye Fan took it and obediently took a sip, but her cute doll-face immediately crumpled into a ball.
She stuck out her tongue, looking at Shujian piteously. “Wife, this medicine is so bitter.”
“Good medicine tastes bitter; you’ll get better faster if you drink it.” Shujian encouraged her gently, then picked up the bowl Ye Fan had set down and held it out to her, signaling for her to take it back.
Ye Fan looked at the bowl of pitch-black medicine in Shujian’s hand, then at Shujian, pouting and acting spoiled.
“Wife, this medicine is too bitter. I want Wife to feed me!”
Shujian laughed inwardly, her lips curving slightly with a hint of teasing: “Will it not be bitter if I feed you?”
“That’s right! Medicine fed by Wife is the sweetest!”
Ye Fan nodded vigorously and stared at Shujian with expectant eyes. Having no choice, Shujian helplessly picked up the bowl and fed the medicine to Ye Fan spoon by spoon.
The bitter taste spread through Ye Fan’s mouth, but she felt her heart was very sweet.
Being fed personally by her wife—even if it were more bitter, it would be worth it!
The two stayed in the hospital like this. Ye Fan used the convenience of her injury to constantly act spoiled, and Shujian, distressed for her, doted on her. She stayed in the hospital until Ye Fan’s injury had healed.
Qin Huaili already knew that Shujian was awake. Although his whereabouts were unknown, there was no longer any need for Shujian to hide her recovery.
After discussing it with Qin Wan, who was still abroad, Shujian announced her awakening to the public. To celebrate, a banquet was held at the Qin house.
The Qin family was a top-tier household in H-City, and essentially every person of standing in the area attended; no one was absent.
At the banquet, Shujian attended with Ye Fan on her arm. Shujian wore a black off-the-shoulder gown, her snow-white waist cinched so tightly it seemed one could wrap a hand around it. Ye Fan’s gown was the same style as Shujian’s, but the colors were reversed.
One looked cool as the lunar moon, the other sunny and cute as a little sun; they looked very well-matched.
Ye Guancheng and Chen Yuelan were Ye Fan’s parents and naturally received an invitation from the Qin family; in truth, given the Ye family’s own status, it would have been impossible for them to attend such a high-society banquet.
Seeing that Ye Fan seemed to have a very close relationship with Shujian and was treated well by the Qin family, they immediately developed other ideas.
Ye Guancheng led Chen Yuelan over, giving Shujian a flattering smile. “Miss Qin, congratulations. You’ve finally woken up.”
“Miss Qin, you don’t know—while you were in a coma, our Ye Fan was so worried about you. She often called me to ask if there were any highly skilled doctors she could contact to treat you.”
Chen Yuelan spoke, giving Ye Fan a look of feigned affection. “This silly child didn’t stop to think—with the Qin family’s resources, how could they ever lack doctors?”
“That’s right. It’s a good thing you woke up, Miss Qin, otherwise we wouldn’t know how much longer Ye Fan would have stubbornly searched for doctors for you.”
The couple went back and forth, their words implying that Shujian’s awakening owed much to Ye Fan’s help.
Ye Fan couldn’t help but want to roll her eyes; she didn’t know when she had ever contacted anyone from the Ye family.
Shujian was used to handling such occasions. She maintained a pleasant smile and quickly sent Ye Guancheng and Chen Yuelan on their way.
Just as Shujian was about to go with Ye Fan to greet others, she saw Li Yunsu approaching with Li Wei.
The Li and Qin families had similar status. Even though Shujian disliked Li Wei because of her previous broken engagement, with so many families present, she had to give the Li family some face.
“Aunt Li, Miss Li.” Shujian took Ye Fan over to greet them.
“Shujian, it’s wonderful that you woke up. This will surely take a lot of pressure off Qin Wan.”
Li Yunsu looked at Shujian with maternal affection; she had essentially watched her grow up and was genuinely happy she had recovered.
“Shujian had no vitality at all while she was in a coma; she looks much better now.” Li Wei looked at Shujian, her lips curving into a slight smile.
The Qin and Li families were both top-tier households in H-City with many eyes on them. This time Shujian didn’t offer a perfunctory response like she had for the Ye family; she put some effort into it.
Conversations between them always involved business dealings. Shujian made small talk with Li Yunsu, bringing up previous cooperation between the two families. Ye Fan could only stand by Shujian’s side and listen; it felt like listening to a foreign language. Even if she wanted to say something, she couldn’t get a word in.
In contrast, Li Wei seemed very familiar with these matters and could offer suggestions from time to time; the three of them appeared to be having a very pleasant conversation.
Looking at Shujian—who was poised, elegant, and generous—Ye Fan pursed her lips, feeling a bit dejected. Seeing that the three were not paying attention to her, she took the opportunity to head toward the food tables on the side.
Shujian saw Ye Fan leave. she wanted to follow, but Li Wei used the topic of cooperation to keep her there.
Facing the Li family, Shujian had to maintain full concentration, so she couldn’t attend to Ye Fan for the moment.
Over there, Ye Fan reached the table and was about to eat a strawberry square when she heard the whispers of those around her.
“Look, she’s the matrilocal Alpha of the Qin family. What a waste for the Eldest Miss—with such a background and appearance, she ended up marrying someone like Ye Fan.”
“Looking like that, if you didn’t tell me she was an Alpha, I’d think she was an Omega. No wonder she has no pheromones.”
“As an Alpha, she actually chose to marry into the Qin family; she truly has no dignity at all.”
“Who told her to have such good luck? She just happened to have high gene compatibility with the Eldest Miss.”
Someone covered their mouth and giggled: “Didn’t I hear she was useless, a ‘waste’ Alpha? How did Shujian get pregnant so quickly? Turns out she’s quite capable in that regard!”
“Hahaha… maybe she’s only capable in that area, otherwise the Qin family would have kicked her out long ago.”
Away from Shujian’s side, Ye Fan could hear the gossip about her everywhere; the stories even became increasingly ridiculous. It seemed no matter where she went, countless eyes were watching her, fixed on her every move.
These people clearly looked down on her, treating her as a source of amusement.
