A Rich Family’s Matrilocal Alpha Married to a Vegetative Omega - Chapter 26
At night, Ye Fan lay on the bed, turning sideways to wrap her arm around Qin Shujian. She interlaced their fingers, gripping Qin Shujian’s hand tightly.
“Goodnight, wife.”
Qin Shujian gave a soft “mm” and replied, “Goodnight.”
Ye Fan closed her eyes as the moonlight flowed and the night grew silent. The clock ticked second by second. Just as Ye Fan was about to drift off, she suddenly felt the fingers in her hand twitch!
She snapped her eyes open and sat up in bed, her expression incredibly excited and filled with disbelief. “Wife, did your finger just move?!”
Qin Shujian hadn’t fallen asleep yet and was startled by Ye Fan’s question. She had just been thinking about how nice it would be if she could squeeze Ye Fan’s fingers back. Could it be…?
“It seems… it did move…” Qin Shujian was somewhat dazed by the sudden surge of joy, speaking blankly, unlike her usual self.
“I can’t be dreaming and haven’t woken up yet, right?” Ye Fan looked stunned, then reached out and pinched her own cheek hard.
“Hiss!” The sharp pain quickly made Ye Fan realize she wasn’t dreaming. Her eyes widened. “It’s real!”
Realizing this was reality, Ye Fan scrambled out of bed and stared fixedly at Qin Shujian’s fingers, her nervous breathing becoming rapid.
“Wife, try again. See if you can move it.”
Qin Shujian was also far from calm. Recalling the sensation from moments ago, she tried moving her fingers again.
Ye Fan kept her eyes glued to Qin Shujian’s hand, not even blinking. Although the movement was tiny this time, Ye Fan still caught it.
“It moved! It really moved!” Ye Fan pulled Qin Shujian into a hug, excited tears welling in her eyes, her voice even becoming a bit choked up. “This is wonderful! Wife, since you can move, you will definitely wake up!”
Qin Shujian was originally as excited as Ye Fan, but hearing Ye Fan’s little trembling voice, she couldn’t help but feel a mix of helplessness and amusement.
“Everything is fine, what are you crying for?”
Ye Fan’s eyes were red as she held Qin Shujian tight. “I’m just so happy.”
“Alright, alright,” Qin Shujian’s tone was doting, as if coaxing a child. “Wipe your tears and stop crying. Come back to bed; we’ll talk about everything tomorrow.”
Qin Shujian had been very excited to find she could move, but Ye Fan’s even greater excitement actually caused Qin Shujian’s restless heart to slowly calm down.
Ye Fan obediently wiped her tears, lay back down, and pulled Qin Shujian into her arms. However, as soon as she closed her eyes, she kept picturing the scene of Qin Shujian’s finger moving.
“Wife, I can’t sleep.”
Qin Shujian asked back, “What do you want to do then?”
“Wife, can you tell me your story?” Ye Fan blinked, her tone full of anticipation. It had always been her telling stories to Qin Shujian; she had never heard Qin Shujian talk about herself.
Qin Shujian hadn’t expected this request and froze for a moment before replying, “I don’t know how to tell stories.”
“Before, I always heard other people talk about how you were this or that. Now I want to hear it from you; I want to understand you too.” As Ye Fan spoke, she tightened her grip on Qin Shujian’s hand and nuzzled her head against Qin Shujian’s neck, acting spoiled. “Wife, please tell me. Just talk about yourself, it’s not hard. Give it a try.”
Qin Shujian didn’t say anything, so Ye Fan kept nuzzling her with her head.
“Tell me, tell me, I really want to hear it.”
Qin Shujian relented. Since she couldn’t tell stories, she chose to talk about the first time she worked at the Qin Group and landed her first project, even explaining many business concepts to Ye Fan.
Ye Fan listened intently. When she heard that Qin Shujian’s first project brought the group a profit of three million, her jaw nearly hit the floor.
She silently counted on her fingers—how many zeros were in three million!
Her wife was so capable! She had to work hard too and earn money to support her wife!
Qin Shujian had no idea what was going on in Ye Fan’s head as she meticulously explained business strategies. Ye Fan listened with full concentration at first, but it wasn’t long before her brain turned to mush from terms like “stocks,” “securities,” and “capital chains.” It felt like listening to a teacher’s lecture on a subject she didn’t understand, and she soon fell asleep.
Faint snoring sounded beside Qin Shujian. She laughed inwardly, gradually reined in her emotions, and let her thoughts sink into dreams.
Ever since Qin Shujian became pregnant, Qin Wan had paid even closer attention to her physical condition, frequently visiting the hospital to consult with the attending physician.
Today was no different; Qin Wan went to the hospital as soon as she woke up.
In the doctor’s office, Qin Wan sat to the side. “Shujian has been pregnant for a month now. How is her body? Are there any issues with the child?”
“Rest assured, Madam Qin. Although the Eldest Miss hasn’t regained consciousness, her bodily functions are being maintained very well. There are no issues with the child; it is developing healthily.”
The doctor took out the prenatal check-up reports since the start of the pregnancy and placed them on the table in front of Qin Wan. “This is a physical examination we performed on the Eldest Miss.”
“If her physical condition can be maintained in this optimal state, even if she doesn’t wake up by the time the child is full-term, we can ensure a successful birth through surgery.”
“Good, I understand. Continue to monitor her condition. If anything is amiss, you must notify me immediately.”
“Of course.”
Having understood her daughter’s condition, Madam Qin returned to the company.
Just as she reached her office door, she saw her secretary blocking Qin Huaili at the entrance.
“Director Huaili, President Qin is not in the office. You cannot enter.”
Qin Wan was the CEO of the Qin Group, and there were many confidential documents in the office. The secretary didn’t dare let anyone in without permission, even if it was Qin Wan’s eldest brother.
“I am a shareholder of the Qin Group. Is there anywhere I cannot enter? Besides, a workaholic like Qin Wan—how could she not be in the office? Step aside, don’t block me,” Qin Huaili said, forcefully pushing the secretary.
The secretary stumbled. Just as she was about to fall, Qin Wan caught her from the side.
Steadying herself and seeing Qin Wan had returned, the secretary called out, “President Qin.”
Qin Wan nodded slightly to her and let go.
“It’s fine, I saw what happened. You can head down now; I’ll deal with my brother.”
Qin Huaili, seeing it was Qin Wan, immediately put on a flattering smile.
“Little sister, you’re back. I thought just now…” At this point, Qin Huaili seemed to think better of continuing and shut his mouth, smiling at Qin Wan again.
Qin Wan glanced coldly at him, finishing his sentence: “Thought what? Thought I intentionally told my secretary to block you?”
“No, I just didn’t expect you wouldn’t be in the office.” Qin Huaili waved it off, changing the subject. “By the way, where did you go so early?”
“Where I go is my own business; brother needn’t worry about it.” Qin Wan spoke while opening the office door. “Come in.”
Qin Huaili watched Qin Wan walk in ahead of him, suppressed his dissatisfaction, and followed her inside.
The office door closed behind them. Qin Wan sat in her chair, her tone reproachful. “With so many employees around, what is it that you couldn’t say at home but had to make a scene at the office for? Do you want word to get out so our competitors can laugh at the Qin Group?”
Qin Huaili secretly clenched his fists, the veins on the back of his hands bulging. If it weren’t for the fact that he currently needed something from her, he would have turned and left the moment the secretary blocked him.
He forced down his anger and gave a sycophantic smile. “Well… little sister, my new small company is having some trouble with cash flow. I was wondering if you could give me my dividend for this year in advance…”
Qin Wan frowned and rejected him bluntly. “No. Shareholder dividends are paid once a year. That is the rule of the Qin Group; how can we make an exception for just one person!”
“This group belongs to our Qin family, and you are the CEO. If you propose an early dividend, I’m sure no one would object. Sister, just help your brother this once. My company’s situation is truly critical; if I don’t get the dividend, it might go bankrupt!”
Facing his pleading, Qin Wan remained unmoved. “The board of directors is not my one-woman show. I will not convene the shareholders for such a thing or give you an early dividend.”
Qin Huaili took several deep breaths, almost losing control of his suppressed temper. “Fine. Since you’re unwilling to give me the dividend, surely a loan is okay? Lend me ten million to fill the hole in the company.”
Qin Wan’s brow furrowed, her face turning icy. “What kind of ‘small company’ needs ten million to fill a cash hole? I think you’ve lost money gambling and can’t pay it back!”
Qin Huaili loved gambling. Initially, Qin Wan would help him for the sake of him being her brother, but he never knew when to stop. Every time he promised her he would quit, he would go right back to it.
Over time, Qin Wan had seen through him; he would never stop gambling.
Denied by Qin Wan, the mask on his face finally shattered. He stood up abruptly and slammed both hands on the desk with a loud “thud,” making the tea set rattle.
“Regardless of the problem, just say it, Qin Wan—are you lending the money or not!”
Qin Wan didn’t even look at him now. She pulled a file from the shelf. “I have work to do. If brother has nothing else, please leave.”
The veins on Qin Huaili’s fingers pressing the desk were bulging, and his expression was terrifyingly bloodthirsty.
“Qin Wan, don’t think too much of yourself. If Mother hadn’t been biased back then, you never would have sat in the CEO’s chair.”
Qin Wan had always known her brother was dissatisfied with her position.
Her expression was cold, an aura of displeasure surrounding her. “If brother doesn’t leave now, I will have someone ‘escort’ you out. It wouldn’t look good for you then.”
Qin Huaili gritted his teeth, glared at her, and left in a rage.
In his car, Qin Huaili received a call. The contact displayed was Li Jinghui.
Having just been humiliated by Qin Wan, his tone was gruff. “Hello? What is it?”
Li Jinghui was currently hiding in a small rented room. He had drawn the curtains; the surroundings were pitch black, and the lights were off.
“The business about tampering with Qin Shujian’s car has been discovered. Many people are looking for me now.”
Qin Huaili’s expression changed instantly. If Li Jinghui were caught, given his personality, he would definitely sell him out. Li Jinghui could not be found under any circumstances.
As he rolled up his car window, Qin Huaili said, “Hide for now. I’ll find a way to deal with the people looking for you.”
“Fine. Give me money. I’m going to hide abroad.”
This was something Li Jinghui had already planned. He had been hiding in this miserable little room for days, unable to do anything, with no money to even order takeout. He was surviving on instant noodles and had had more than enough of it.
“How much do you want?”
Li Jinghui didn’t hold back. “I want five million.”
Qin Huaili owed a lot of money due to gambling and wasn’t exactly flush with cash, especially since Qin Wan had just rejected his request.
His face was as dark as the bottom of a pot. He gritted his teeth. “Are you crazy? Where am I supposed to find that much money for you?”
“The Qin Group is so big and you are a shareholder; I don’t believe you don’t even have five million. If you don’t give it to me, I’ll just expose myself—it saves me from hiding like a rat.”
Qin Huaili was furious, but he had to consider the situation.
“Jinghui, calm down. Even though I instructed you, you were the one who actually tampered with her car. Do you think they’ll let you go if you expose yourself?”
This was the point Li Jinghui had been hesitating on. But if Qin Huaili wouldn’t give him money to leave the country, was he supposed to spend the rest of his life hiding in fear?
Furthermore, Li Jinghui didn’t think he could hide forever. If he were caught, the outcome would be even more brutal.
He wasn’t swayed by Qin Huaili’s words. “I can keep quiet, but you must give me those five million.”
Seeing Li Jinghui wouldn’t budge, Qin Huaili had no choice but to pacify him for now. “Five million is a massive amount; I can’t produce it instantly. Give me a few days to scrape it together.”
“Fine. For the sake of you being my cousin-in-law, I’ll give you a few days. Don’t make me wait too long, or I can’t be sure what I’ll do.” Li Jinghui hung up, leaving no room for bargaining.
Qin Huaili nearly smashed his phone. His eyes were full of rage and anxiety.
After driving home, he kicked all the servants out of the house. He needed a quiet environment to think.
“What happened? Why are you so angry?” Li Zhenfang asked, her voice full of worry.
Seeing her only made him angrier. “It’s that ‘good’ cousin of yours! You said he was reliable and kept his mouth shut. It hasn’t been that long and he’s already been discovered.”
Li Zhenfang’s eyes widened. “How? He told me he destroyed every clue that could lead to him.”
“If he were capable of that, he wouldn’t be forced to hide in his hometown right now!” Qin Huaili glared at her. “Now your cousin wants five million from me. I don’t have that kind of money. I’ve stalled him for now, but if we don’t pay up, he’ll definitely expose us!”
“If Qin Wan finds out we plotted to turn Shujian into a vegetable, she’ll never let us go.”
Li Zhenfang couldn’t sit still. She stood up and paced the room anxiously. A minute later, she stopped abruptly.
Her eyes were bloodshot, her expression distorted. “Only dead men tell no tales. If we get rid of him quietly, this whole thing ends!”
A flash of surprise crossed Qin Huaili’s eyes, but he quickly regained his composure.
“With you saying that, I’m relieved.”
Their gazes met, and they shared a silent, mutual understanding.
Because Qin Shujian’s finger had moved last night, Ye Fan was firmly convinced she would wake up.
Currently, she was by the bed, holding Qin Shujian’s hand and tracing patterns on the back of it with her other finger.
“Wife, can you feel me doing this?”
Ye Fan looked serious, but inside her heart was dancing. Hehehe, wife’s hand is so beautiful, her fingers are slender, her skin is so white and smooth. I must have been a saint in my past lives to get to marry her.
Qin Shujian felt ticklish from her movements. I only can’t wake my body up; I can perceive the outside. Didn’t you know this from day one?
“Is it the same? Before you couldn’t move, now you can. There must be a difference in what you can feel.” Ye Fan reached out and touched Qin Shujian’s cheek. “Wife, feel it more; maybe you’ll wake up completely.”
Qin Shujian saw right through her little scheme.
She said intentionally, Ye Fan, you’re about to drool.
“What!” Ye Fan had been dazing off while looking at her; hearing this, she jumped in surprise and quickly let go of her hand to wipe her mouth. But she felt nothing. Only then did she realize she’d been tricked—Qin Shujian’s body hadn’t recovered and she wasn’t awake, so how could she see if she was drooling?
“Wife, you lied to me!”
Qin Shujian laughed inwardly, exposing her: Ye Fan, are you taking the opportunity to take advantage of me?
Ye Fan, caught red-handed, gave two awkward coughs. “No, I’m helping you recover as quickly as possible.”
Sensing the touch on her cheek, Qin Shujian was speechless. When you say that, it might be more convincing if you took your hand off my face.
“I just want to be close to my wife.” Ye Fan spoke while hugging her, sticking to her like a piece of glue.
Waaaah, wife is so fragrant and soft. I have to work hard and protect the best wife in the world!
While they were flirting and laughing, Wei Xing walked in. Seeing Ye Fan like this, her expression soured.
“Ye Fan, what are you doing to the Eldest Miss!”
Hearing the voice, Ye Fan immediately pulled up the quilt and tucked Qin Shujian in tightly, exposing nothing but her face. Then she turned around.
Seeing it was Wei Xing, the smile on Ye Fan’s face vanished. She frowned. “This is our bedroom, Wei Xing. Why did you barge in without a word?”
Wei Xing’s face was dark. “I knocked. You just didn’t notice.”
In fact, she had knocked many times, but the two inside were doing heaven knows what and didn’t hear a thing. Fearing something had happened, she pushed the door open.
She had walked in to find Ye Fan lying in bed, being handsy with Qin Shujian with a silly grin on her face.
“What are you here for?” Ye Fan got out of bed and sat on the edge, her tone full of disdain.
“Naturally, I have something to report to the Eldest Miss.”
Getting down to business, Wei Xing stopped bickering. She handed Ye Fan a photo sent by her subordinate.
“After finding the clue about Li Jinghui last time, I sent people to his hometown to investigate. We finally found his hiding spot, but unfortunately, my people were one step too late.”
Since it concerned her wife, Ye Fan became serious. Seeing Wei Xing stop halfway, she asked anxiously, “What do you mean ‘one step too late’? Explain clearly.”
“When my people found him, he was already in his car preparing to flee.”
Ye Fan’s eyebrows shot up. “So you let him get away? You didn’t stop him?”
“No. My people didn’t have a car prepared, so he escaped. However, shortly after he drove off, another group of people followed him in their car.”
Ye Fan took the photos and studied each one carefully, her expression turning solemn.
“Is this the other group you mentioned?”
“Yes, that’s them.” Wei Xing nodded. ” I’ve already told my people to keep tracking them. I just don’t know if they are friend or foe. If they are friends, it’s fine, but if they are enemies, I can’t guess their intent.”
Ye Fan sighed. “It’s a pity wife isn’t awake yet, otherwise she might recognize the people in these photos.”
“I was always by her side and I’ve never seen these people; the Eldest Miss might not have seen them either.”
While the two were discussing, Qin Shujian remained silent.
She was deep in thought. There weren’t many people capable of acting faster than Wei Xing and being fully prepared when Li Jinghui fled.
After a moment of contemplation, she had a guess.
You two can stop thinking about it. I know who sent that other group.
