Chapter 51
Lin Chen was dreaming. The scene was the same one she had dreamt of before, but this time, the once-blurry face became clear.
The Alpha she had married in her previous dream was actually Mu Yu!
Lin Chen tried to move, but she found she could not control her own body.
“I should have come sooner,” the Alpha said with a trace of regret.
Mu Yu gripped her hand tightly. The unfamiliar person and excessive intimacy made Lin Chen uncomfortable, but fortunately, “Lin Chen” quickly pulled her hand away.
“I think things are quite good now,” she said in a familiar tone.
Knowing herself better than anyone, Lin Chen could feel that this “self” was very close to Mu Yu, but it wasn’t at the level of love—they seemed more like very close, best friends.
This isn’t a simple dream, Lin Chen thought. Perhaps the sense of familiarity she felt toward Mu Yu would be answered here.
Mu Yu didn’t seem surprised by Lin Chen pulling her hand back; she withdrew her own naturally.
“Where is Yun Qi?” “Lin Chen” asked.
“We didn’t kill her. We sent her and Jin Mo to a remote city; our people there will watch over her,” Mu Yu said. “Having to live like an ordinary person for the rest of her life will be a kind of torture for her.”
After learning how Yun Qi had tortured Lin Chen, Mu Yu originally hadn’t wanted to spare her life. But Lin Chen said she had already killed Yun Qi once. Since Yun Qi survived, out of respect for Yun Qi’s mother, they decided to let her live and send her to a remote place to fend for herself. Fearing that some Imperial remnants might try to restore the old regime, they would keep people stationed to watch Yun Qi and Jin Mo constantly.
“Mm,” “Lin Chen” replied flatly. The internal Lin Chen, however, was anything but calm.
Jin Mo? Since when did her Alpha get entangled with that person again?
Then there was a stretch of silence. Mu Yu seemed to want to say something, but ultimately held back. Lin Chen could see that the other woman hoped to stay. This timeline seemed to follow the previous dream, meaning they were already married. “Lin Chen” didn’t seem to notice the Alpha’s intent—or perhaps she was deliberately playing dumb—staring at Mu Yu as if wondering why she hadn’t left yet.
Finally, Mu Yu gave in. After bidding “Lin Chen” goodbye, she left.
After Mu Yu departed, Yi Fei came in.
“Still haven’t made up your mind?”
“I don’t want to consider those things right now.” Facing her friend, “Lin Chen’s” emotions were much fuller, carrying a sense of exhaustion.
“Alright. Do you remember what happened to you that day?” Yi Fei asked cautiously.
Without any basis, Lin Chen felt she was referring to her previous dream, when she had grabbed the other’s hand to ask for a reason.
“I really don’t remember.” “Lin Chen” was also puzzled. She truly didn’t remember, but her friend seemed to care deeply, constantly asking why she had asked those things that day.
“It’s nothing.” Yi Fei stopped pressing. “Jin Mo went behind Yun Qi’s back and hooked up with someone else. She doesn’t want to go to some remote, poor place.”
Yi Fei shared the gossip she had heard. When her friend wanted to spare Yun Qi’s life, she hadn’t supported it, but after thinking about it later, she accepted it. Was it not more painful to force someone who grew up in the lap of luxury to fend for themselves in a remote wasteland than to simply kill them?
“It’s almost funny when you think about it. Yun Qi can’t even save herself, yet she was still pleading for Jin Mo. In the end, the woman survived but refused to accompany her to the middle of nowhere. Truly, wicked people are tormented by their own kind.” Yi Fei knew her words might sting her friend, but she hoped this would help her friend completely let go of her feelings for that scumbag.
“I told you, I spared her life only for the sake of her mother.” “Lin Chen” saw through Yi Fei’s obvious goal.
“I know, I just wanted to cheer you up. Just watch—Jin Mo won’t stay quiet. Once they reach their destination, Jin Mo will definitely find someone else. Then she and Yun Qi can torture each other; it’s fun just thinking about it.”
As she spoke, Yi Fei laughed. How could a gorgeous big star be willing to stay with an Alpha who lost her power and might not even be able to support herself? Besides, she had stayed with Yun Qi in the beginning solely for the title of “Duchess.” It was poetic justice that Yun Qi had actually fallen for such an Omega. Yi Fei would have people keep a constant eye on them.
So the ‘Yun Qi’ here actually fell for Jin Mo? Lin Chen felt a wave of turbulence in her heart.
During the period when the Alpha was abnormal, if one had to ask which two Omegas she treated most specially, it was her and Jin Mo. The difference was that the Alpha doted on Jin Mo but utterly loathed her. The Alpha had broken rules for Jin Mo multiple times, and the relationship lasted the longest. There were even rumors that the Duke planned to marry the big star.
The Alpha’s later behavior had made Lin Chen believe she truly loved Jin Mo without realizing it, which was why she wanted to give up. At that time, she felt the person she knew as a child was truly never coming back. Fortunately, after Yun Qi returned to normal, she had no contact with that person and no ties to other Omegas. Just like when they were kids, she liked to hover around her.
“If your unborn child could see the status of those two culprits from below, they would surely laugh,” Yi Fei added more fuel to the fire.
“!” The internal Lin Chen was focused. Unborn child?
To rebuild, one must first destroy. Although her friend said she no longer had feelings, Yi Fei was still uneasy. Only by helping her friend completely pull out the poisonous thorn named “Yun Qi” could she truly find a new life. Yi Fei felt that the reason her friend hadn’t accepted Mu Yu was likely because the thorn hadn’t been fully removed.
“I don’t want to mention this again,” “Lin Chen” interrupted brusquely. The matter of the child was a territory she couldn’t touch; the slightest thought of it brought piercing pain.
“Alright, alright, let’s not talk about unhappy things.”
This dream… Just like the last time, Lin Chen woke up halfway through.
In this dream, there were three points she focused on: one was Mu Yu—why she was with Mu Yu; another was Jin Mo—her relationship with Yun Qi; and the last was her child.
The unborn child made her think of the one in her womb right now. The Alpha beside her was still sound asleep, her face free of the cruel wrinkles of her abnormal period; she looked exceptionally gentle.
Would the Alpha wake up one day and become abnormal again? Would she harm their child for the sake of Jin Mo? The dream felt too real, and the fact that her actions in the previous dream influenced this one made her uneasy.
Lin Chen moved toward the Alpha, resting her face against Yun Qi’s neck and nuzzling slightly.
The ticklish sensation of hair rubbing against her woke Yun Qi. she struggled to open her eyes, her brain still in a state of chaos. It seemed the Omega had been woken up by a nightmare; she was curled up against her, looking piteous and heartbreaking. Habit told Yun Qi she should comfort her.
In her dazed state, the Alpha instinctively pulled her partner into her arms and released her pheromones to soothe her.
“Do you like Jin Mo?” the Omega asked in a tiny voice, her tone full of grievance.
Yun Qi’s sluggish brain couldn’t recall who Jin Mo was, but she knew she liked and loved only Lin Chen. When the word “like” was paired with a name that wasn’t Lin Chen, it had to be wrong. So, the Alpha shook her head at her partner.
“Then who do you like?”
“Little Rabbit.” In Yun Qi’s heart, Lin Chen had always been her little rabbit—tiny, soft, and well-behaved.
Intense drowsiness returned. The Alpha closed her eyes, but was immediately shaken awake by the dissatisfied Omega.
“Who is Little Rabbit?” That title could belong to anyone. Although she knew it likely referred to her because the Alpha loved calling her that as a child, she still wanted to hear the exact answer.
“Lin Chen.” Woken up again from her fatigue, Yun Qi was initially impatient, but when she realized it was Lin Chen, the irritation vanished.
Hearing the satisfactory answer, the Omega kissed her partner once as a reward.
“Will you protect our child?” Seeing Yun Qi falling back into a deep sleep, the Omega nuzzled against the Alpha’s neck. She knew the Alpha’s neck was very sensitive. Sure enough, Yun Qi was woken up once more.
Lin Chen didn’t believe for a second that the person holding her would harm their child, but the dream was so vivid.
“Yes.” Why would she harm the child of herself and the person she loved? Though she wasn’t fully awake, she still possessed this basic understanding. It was the existence she had been anticipating; how could she harm her?
Yun Qi held her Little Rabbit close, but didn’t use much force, fearing she would squeeze the “tiny little rabbit” in the Little Rabbit’s belly.
“I will always love you too,” the Omega said an enigmatic sentence and then fell silent.
Yun Qi didn’t figure out the connection between that sentence and the previous ones. Without Lin Chen’s interference, she quickly fell into a deep sleep. Lately, her uncle seemed to be testing the limits of her potential; as soon as she adapted to one phase, he added another, leaving her exhausted every night.
The Alpha promised. She promised to only like her, promised not to harm their child, and promised to protect the child always. So, she also promised the Alpha: she would not marry Mu Yu or any other Alpha as she did in the dream.
A promise made must be kept. If the Alpha ever went back on her word in the future, she would tell her of this conversation and make her “obediently” fulfill her promise.
Even if the Alpha never left the house, even without the Yun family fortune, she could support her, the Alpha, and their child very well. Thinking of Yun Qi staying forever in their little home, not staring at other Omegas with those disobedient eyes and not doing things to make her angry, Lin Chen felt very satisfied.
It was just that the Alpha might not be very happy then. Lin Chen still preferred the smiles of the Alpha’s initiative embraces, so she suppressed her darker fantasies and fell asleep alongside the Alpha.
