After Transmigrating Into a Book, I Became That Omega - Chapter 17
The list was posted on the bulletin board.
Originally, the bulletin board had been filled with things promoting military culture and the bearing of soldiers.
Now, inside the bulletin board, there was a single sheet of white paper with several names printed simply on it.
Out of fifty people, ten were chosen to enter the nationwide training.
During the final week of training, those ten people were directly transferred to another location to train together with the selected students from other schools.
Sang Yuan was rushed into packing his luggage and boarding a plane to the capital.
As the political center of the country, the capital naturally had the strongest military power too. The best military forces were all gathered there.
The university students selected from across the country gathered at the military base in the capital.
There were three military bases in the capital that were publicly known, and the one the students were going to was one of them, located in the western mountains of the capital.
“Are you okay?” Ji Tang patted Sang Yuan’s back. Sang Yuan’s complexion was extremely bad right now. His face was pale, and his whole person looked wilted, completely lacking his usual energy.
Sang Yuan waved weakly. No matter what, he had never expected that this body in this world would actually get airsick. He had already thrown up once on the plane.
One plane ride felt as if it had taken half his life.
In the past, Sang Yuan had never had any problem with airsickness, so he had not taken it seriously.
Who could have thought that not long after the plane took off, his stomach would start churning violently, and he would not be able to hold it back at all?
Even after they arrived at the West Mountain Base in the capital, he still had not recovered. He still felt like he wanted to throw up.
“Help me take out a candy. It’s in my pants pocket.” Sang Yuan leaned against Ji Tang’s shoulder, his stomach rolling fiercely.
Ji Tang did as he said and reached into Sang Yuan’s pocket for the candy. His slender fingers felt around inside the pocket and soon touched a small square box.
He took out the box, removed a piece of candy, and placed it into Sang Yuan’s mouth.
His fingertip brushed against Sang Yuan’s lips, which were unusually soft.
With a hook of his tongue, Sang Yuan rolled the candy into his mouth.
The orange-mint flavor immediately filled his mouth, making his churning stomach feel much better.
Ji Tang paused slightly, then naturally withdrew his fingers. “Do you want some water?”
He unscrewed a bottle of water and brought it to Sang Yuan’s lips. Sang Yuan drank directly from the bottle. “Thanks, thanks. It’s all thanks to you. Otherwise, I really would’ve died.”
Ji Tang gave a soft laugh and put the bottle away.
There were fifty schools in total, with ten students from each school. They had not all come on the same flight. The students from Yun City University had arrived relatively early, and their dorms were all arranged together.
As usual, Sang Yuan chose an upper bunk. Ji Tang chose the upper bunk next to his, the two beds connected side by side.
Since everyone had not arrived yet, the base did not make any special demands of the others. From the looks of it, they would only officially begin after everyone had arrived.
After resting for a while, Sang Yuan had already started coming back to life. Now, he was unusually energetic.
After doing a simple warm-up in the dorm, Sang Yuan prepared to go out and run a few laps, then practice some martial arts while he was at it.
Since military training began, he had cut down on his martial arts practice. It had been a long time since he had practiced properly to his heart’s content. Since the others had not arrived yet, this was the perfect time to go move around first.
Before leaving, Sang Yuan waved his phone at Ji Tang. “I’m going out to exercise. Call me if anything happens.”
Without waiting for Ji Tang’s response, he bounced away.
Ji Tang stared in astonishment at Sang Yuan, who had recovered his energy not long after looking completely wilted, and could not help shaking his head. Luo Xinghe really had been right. Sang Yuan was truly full of energy.
Clearly, when they had first arrived, he had looked half-dead. How long had it been? Yet he had already recovered.
Sang Yuan found the field, ran three laps around it to warm up, then picked a remote corner and began practicing martial arts.
Whenever Sang Yuan practiced martial arts, his focus was always entirely on himself.
After arriving, some students could not stay in the dorms and came wandering out to look around the place where they would be staying from now on.
A circle of people gathered around Sang Yuan. Aside from students, there were also some soldiers from West Mountain Base.
After finishing one set of martial arts, Sang Yuan withdrew his stance, his complexion rosy from practice.
Seeing the people standing around him, he froze for a moment, then asked in confusion, “What are you all looking at?”
“Hehe, bro, what were you practicing just now? Martial arts?” A buzz-cut Alpha asked with a grin.
“Yes.” Sang Yuan nodded.
The people around him suddenly understood. “So you know kung fu. No wonder a Beta like you could be selected.”
This selection was almost entirely made up of Alphas. As for Betas, there was only Sang Yuan himself, and there were no Omegas at all.
After differentiation, survival of the fittest became far too obvious. This had practically become a form of society.
This group of people had gathered here because they were also curious why a Beta would be selected. If he had a martial arts foundation, then it made sense.
Sang Yuan pressed his lips together and left without saying a word.
This blatant discrimination based on gender made him very unhappy.
This kind of suppression seemed to be innate, as if differentiating into an Alpha automatically made someone superior.
As the most ordinary group, Betas seemed to be wrong no matter what they did. Other people would look at them strangely and think, How could a Beta possibly achieve something like this?
The entire society was like this. Even though Sang Yuan was an outsider, in this short amount of time, he could already feel the difference in treatment.
Omegas, as the most precious resource, received the best preferential treatment, but their freedom was actually the smallest.
After coming out from his shower, Ji Tang glanced at Sang Yuan, whose little face was tense. “Did something happen?”
There were not only the two of them in the dorm. The students from Yun City University who had come this time were all staying in the same dorm room.
Some had gone out to wander, while others were lying on their beds playing on their phones. No one paid attention to Ji Tang and Sang Yuan.
Sang Yuan rubbed his face. “Nothing. I just feel like, as a Beta, you might need to put in ten times more effort than an Alpha before you can be recognized.”
“It’s undeniable that after differentiation, a Beta’s body is indeed inferior to an Alpha’s in every aspect.” Ji Tang closed his book and looked at Sang Yuan. “But that doesn’t mean Alphas can’t be surpassed.”
“Just as there are many kinds of people, there are naturally many kinds of Alphas too.”
“Not all Alphas are powerful. There are excellent ones, and naturally, there are also ones who will be eliminated.”
“Those people may not even compare to Betas. It’s only in terms of identity that they have an advantage over Betas.”
“Even if you differentiated into a Beta, there’s no need to belittle yourself. After all, there’s plenty of trash among Alphas too. If they’re trash, you don’t need to care about them even more. Just be yourself.”
Ji Tang’s voice was very cool and indifferent, but also very steady. Every sentence he said sounded both like an explanation and like comfort.
That slightly low voice strangely soothed Sang Yuan’s somewhat gloomy mood.
Sang Yuan grinned at Ji Tang. “That’s why I think I should walk my own path and make all those jealous people shut their mouths and be shocked to the end.”
Looking at the small face that had regained its smile, Ji Tang’s lips also curved slightly. “So just be yourself. Don’t worry about what other people say.”
“A training officer came by earlier and informed us that there’ll be a welcome meeting for everyone in the cafeteria tonight.” Ji Tang picked up his book again.
“Everyone’s arrived?” Sang Yuan stood up and looked down from the balcony.
