Carrying My Senior's Coffin (GL) - Chapter 16
When its name was called, the thing slowly raised its head.
The hair hanging over its face parted and fell to either side, revealing a bloody, mangled face.
Even Fang Yiyi, who was no longer particularly afraid of ghosts, went rigid at the sight of it.
The face Nancy had cared for so meticulously while alive had been gnawed away from the eyes downward, as though rats or something similar had chewed through it.
The flesh was uneven and torn open.
Her nose was gone, with only half the bridge remaining.
Clots of dark red blood had hardened inside the exposed flesh, and in some places, scraps of meat and clear bite marks remained.
Only her eyes were intact.
They were filled with deathly stillness and resentment as they stared unblinkingly at Fang Yiyi.
Now Fang Yiyi was certain.
This ghost was Nancy.
Nancy was dead?
Fang Yiyi’s heart shook violently.
Her final memory of Nancy was still that phone call filled with vicious abuse.
Her first thought now was whether the other five girls would die as well.
Nancy had been the first to lose her mind. When she withdrew from school, the other five had been emotional, but they had still looked like normal people.
Now Nancy was dead.
What about them?
Had they gone insane?
Were they already dead?
Or were they on their way to dying?
Fang Yiyi was not a saint, nor did she intend to concern herself with whether they lived or died.
Those people had bullied her constantly.
Fang Yiyi even felt that the fact she had never stabbed them to death already proved she was kind.
What worried her was whether, after they died, they would become like Nancy and insist on killing her no matter what.
Would Li Ting save her?
Fang Yiyi was not sure.
She set the lunchbox on the floor, turned around, and sprinted toward the emergency stairwell at the end of the corridor.
No matter what, the most urgent thing now was to find a way upstairs and return to the dormitory to find Li Ting.
That was her only chance of survival.
Her injuries had not fully healed.
Walking did not make them especially noticeable, but the moment she ran, all the flesh on her body shook, and the pain immediately returned.
Her lower abdomen and inner thighs were especially sore.
After only a few steps, Fang Yiyi could no longer stop herself from hissing in pain.
Behind her, Nancy had already caught up.
It was barefoot.
Its toes touched the ground as it glided forward at high speed, its feet covered in blood that streamed downward.
“Are you waiting for me?”
The monotonous voice suddenly sounded right beside Fang Yiyi’s ear.
Her scalp went numb.
A chill swept across the back of her neck.
She instinctively tilted her head back and lowered her body at the same time, using the force of her sprint to slide across the floor in the direction from which she had come.
Sticky hair brushed across her cheek.
A nauseating, bloody stench struck her full in the face.
Fang Yiyi’s stomach churned violently, and she barely managed to keep herself from vomiting on the spot.
Nancy’s first lunge missed.
Its mangled face twisted savagely, and hatred filled its venomous eyes.
“Are you waiting for me?”
“Are you waiting for me?”
The sentence came more and more frequently.
Fang Yiyi did not dare stop.
She immediately fled in the opposite direction.
Her heart rose into her throat.
Her nerves stretched to the limit, and her heart pounded like a drum, making her eardrums buzz.
The instant Nancy lunged again, Fang Yiyi repeated the same maneuver and dodged aside.
After missing twice in a row, Nancy’s eyes bulged.
Visible blood vessels spread across them.
It seemed to go completely mad.
It shrieked and lunged at Fang Yiyi again, speaking faster and faster like an audio recording played at several times its normal speed.
“Areyouwaitingformearen’tyouwaitingformearen’tyouwaitingforme…”
The noise made Fang Yiyi’s head feel as though it were splitting.
Unable to endure it, she shouted, “What is wrong with you?!”
The repeated voice stopped abruptly.
Nancy’s rapidly moving figure also froze.
It stood there.
A fanatical delight, almost like surprise, burst from its cloudy eyes as it stared at Fang Yiyi.
Its jawbone began trembling rapidly, shaking loose strips of flesh that still clung to it.
“Hee hee hee… hee hee hee… hee hee hee…”
It was ecstatic.
Fang Yiyi silently cursed.
As expected, in the very next instant, Nancy suddenly appeared right beside her.
Fang Yiyi instinctively tried to run, but her aching muscles chose that exact moment to fail her.
Her movements stalled.
Nancy’s hands, tipped with sharp nails, landed on the top of her head.
Fear surged from the depths of Fang Yiyi’s heart.
Her eyes widened, and her entire body trembled uncontrollably.
It’s over, she thought.
The instant Nancy touched her, a sharp sizzling sound rang out, like raw meat thrown into hot oil.
Immediately afterward came a piercing scream.
Fang Yiyi instinctively reached for her own throat.
Her Adam’s apple bobbed as she confirmed that the scream had not come from her.
The hair she had tied up only moments ago fell loose and covered her vision.
The fresh scent of shampoo filled her nose.
Fang Yiyi stood dazed for a second and realized that the nauseating smell of blood had also disappeared.
She reached out and felt something circular, burned black and smoking, roll into her palm.
It was not hot.
Fang Yiyi raised it in front of her eyes and recognized the hair tie Li Ting had given her.
The red silk no longer retained any of its original color.
It had been scorched into a sticky black lump.
If she managed to return alive, she hoped Senior would not blame her for this.
Fang Yiyi turned her head and glanced at Nancy.
Smoke rose from both of Nancy’s arms.
The flesh that had once been red and white was now entirely charred black.
Only the palms remained on both hands.
They were bald and fingerless.
Nancy’s face twisted savagely.
Its eyes bulged with intense unwillingness as it hissed furiously at Fang Yiyi.
After the dodging and scrambling just now, Fang Yiyi stood only three steps away from the staircase.
Nancy was directly opposite her, on the other side of the landing.
Fang Yiyi realized that this was the perfect opportunity to escape.
There was no time to think.
She clenched the burned hair tie in her hand and sprinted toward the stairs.
An inhuman howl rose behind her.
However, the earlier strike seemed to have made Nancy wary.
It did not dare approach recklessly.
Fang Yiyi did not look back.
She ran upward two steps at a time.
Even though she knew Nancy was following only a short distance behind her, she did not dare stop.
There was only one hair tie, and it looked as though it had already been destroyed.
It had been a single-use item.
If Nancy discovered that before Fang Yiyi reached Dormitory 404, she would truly be finished.
There were only a dozen or so steps between each floor.
Fang Yiyi fled with the longest strides she could manage.
The instant Nancy closed in again, she stepped onto the third floor.
One more floor, she repeated silently.
Fang Yiyi had long hair.
The strands were fine and soft, and the force of her running sent them streaming behind her.
As she turned the corner, the ends of one lock brushed against Nancy’s neck.
Nancy flinched.
With a whoosh, it rapidly retreated a long distance.
But this time, its skin did not begin to burn.
Nancy’s forearm folded backward from behind its body.
The fingerless palm touched the place Fang Yiyi’s hair had brushed, as though confirming what had happened.
There was a deep bloody groove in its neck.
The wound had already clotted.
It looked as though fingers had been dug into the flesh and then forcefully scooped it away like clay.
The blood had not fully dried and still looked damp.
After confirming this, Nancy raised its face.
It stared toward Fang Yiyi, who was desperately running around the turn between the third and fourth floors.
Its jawbone began trembling rapidly again, even faster than before.
“Heeheeheeheeheehee…”
Accompanied by the eerie laughter, Nancy’s figure vanished from where it stood.
In the next instant, it suddenly appeared in front of Fang Yiyi.
The half of its remaining nasal bone touched the tip of Fang Yiyi’s nose.
The overwhelming stench made Fang Yiyi’s breath catch.
Her legs weakened with fear.
She took half a step backward, missed the step, and fell.
Nancy remained only inches away and followed her downward at high speed.
From a distance, the human and ghost fell in identical positions, headfirst toward the stairs below.
At this height, if Fang Yiyi struck the ground, the back of her head would hit the sharp edge of a step.
She would undoubtedly die.
Fang Yiyi’s eyes widened, and she cried out in alarm.
At the critical moment, someone grabbed the collar of Fang Yiyi’s uniform and yanked upward.
The sudden choking sensation made her eyes roll back instinctively.
In the corner of her vision, Nancy’s ghostly face seemed to be struck by an invisible force.
Its already distorted features twisted even more violently.
Then its entire body flew backward and slammed heavily onto the floor.
A familiar presence wrapped around Fang Yiyi, shutting all danger outside.
Fang Yiyi stared blankly toward it.
Never before had she found this figure so comforting.
“What piece of trash dares cause trouble outside my door?”
Li Ting hovered in the air, her red robes billowing.
One hand gripped Fang Yiyi’s collar.
Expressionless, she stared down at Nancy.
Dense killing intent shone in her upturned phoenix eyes.
Her crimson lips parted, and she enunciated every word.
“You truly have no idea how high the heavens are.”
