Carrying My Senior's Coffin (GL) - Chapter 20
Fang Yiyi walked over and gently sat down beside the bed.
The three-year-old child lay there quietly. His eyelashes were long, and his chest rose and fell evenly with each breath, as though he were merely asleep.
Mrs. Chen stood in Mr. Chen’s embrace and let out a sorrowful sigh. She lightly bit her lower lip, her eyes misty with unshed tears.
Mr. Chen patted his wife’s shoulder reassuringly, then said to Fang Yiyi, “Miss Fang, please tell us whatever you need us to do. We’ll cooperate to the best of our ability.”
Fang Yiyi did not know what to do either, so she remained silent for the moment.
Thinking he had disturbed her, Mr. Chen lowered his voice.
“Miss Fang?”
Fang Yiyi slowly raised her eyes to him.
“You should all go outside first. There can’t be too many people here. I’m enough on my own.”
Mr. and Mrs. Chen exchanged a glance.
Although they were worried, they still obeyed. Together with the nanny, they stepped outside, closed the door, and left Fang Yiyi alone in the room.
“Senior,” Fang Yiyi said softly. “They’ve gone out.”
“I know.”
Li Ting had already emerged when they entered the room. She was now floating in midair, looking toward Jiayin.
“Hold the child’s hand.”
Fang Yiyi obediently reached out and held his small, soft hand.
“Can you see it?” Li Ting asked.
“What?”
Fang Yiyi looked utterly confused.
Li Ting said, “Get rid of that stupid expression and look again properly.”
Hm?
Did she mean Fang Yiyi should change her expression?
Then what expression should she use?
Fang Yiyi thought about it.
Since they were dealing with a ghost, she should probably look fierce, like Zhong Kui.
So she took a deep breath, raised her eyebrows, and put on a vicious expression.
“What am I supposed to see, Senior? I didn’t see anything.”
Li Ting choked.
“…Forget it.”
She reached into the empty air and swiftly grabbed hold of something.
A pitch-black infant ghost was now dangling upside down from her hand.
“Can you see it now?”
Still wearing her fierce expression, Fang Yiyi nodded vigorously.
“Mm! I see it!”
The little ghost looked as though it had rolled straight out of a vat of ink.
Hearing Fang Yiyi speak, it rotated its neck halfway around and revealed a pair of blood-red eyes.
Its lips split all the way back behind its ears.
It opened its crimson mouth, revealing three layers of saw-toothed fangs stacked one behind another, and bared them at Fang Yiyi.
Its head was only the size of two fists.
Once its mouth opened, it was almost entirely filled with sharp teeth, as though the teeth might split its head into two halves.
Fang Yiyi froze in fright for a moment.
Then she immediately remembered that the little ghost was in Senior’s hand, so there was nothing to fear.
She imitated it, widening her eyes and baring her teeth right back.
“Ha!”
A vein throbbed on Li Ting’s forehead.
Her grip tightened unconsciously.
Unable to withstand the force, the little ghost squeaked in pain.
Li Ting finally snapped, “If you don’t restrain yourself, I’ll let this thing eat you.”
The little ghost was delighted by those words.
It stopped squeaking and stared eagerly at Fang Yiyi, black saliva beginning to drip from its enormous mouth.
Fang Yiyi quickly returned to normal and patted her aching cheeks.
She glared at the little ghost.
“Don’t even dream about it. You won’t get the chance!”
Li Ting casually tore the ghost apart, then released a wisp of ghostfire and let it burn itself away.
“Senior is amazing!”
The thing that wanted to eat her was dead, so Fang Yiyi immediately began showering Li Ting with praise.
“You were so cool!”
Li Ting pretended not to hear.
Instead, she said unhappily, “What’s wrong with you? You’ve absorbed so much of my yin energy, yet you still can’t even see a parasitic ghost.”
Fang Yiyi scratched her head.
“But I can see Nancy. I can see Senior too.”
“That’s because they wanted you to see them. You can also see something when its malice toward you is strong enough.”
“Neither has anything to do with your own ability.”
“Your aptitude isn’t bad, so why are you still this slow?”
Fang Yiyi felt ashamed.
“Does that mean I haven’t absorbed enough yin energy?”
“Then… should I take in more?”
Li Ting was already in a bad mood, so she began attacking the culprit from every possible angle.
“You said you would study different positions, but you’ve only watched five videos so far.”
“You keep repeating the same few things over and over.”
“When are you finally going to make some progress?”
“…I’m sorry. I’ll study properly when we get back.”
“I’ll definitely be able to see it next time.”
Fang Yiyi lowered her head and shoulders, obediently admitting her mistake.
She looked terribly dejected.
“…”
Most of Li Ting’s anger suddenly disappeared.
She waved her hand irritably.
“Forget it. Tell that couple the ghost was a parasitic spirit raised by someone else.”
After saying that, she no longer wanted to deal with Fang Yiyi.
She transformed into a stream of red mist and returned to the Buddhist bead.
The bead felt cool against Fang Yiyi’s wrist.
Fang Yiyi rubbed her nose and did not dare ask what exactly a parasitic ghost was.
However, she could now feel that the sinister chill in the room had disappeared.
She turned to look at Jiayin and silently prayed that the child would wake soon.
Otherwise, she would have to explain herself to Mr. and Mrs. Chen.
Fortunately, Jiayin woke very quickly.
His large eyes opened.
He did not cry or fuss upon seeing a stranger. Instead, he called for his mother in a soft, childish voice.
Fang Yiyi: “…”
“Wait here. I’ll go find your mom.”
Mr. and Mrs. Chen had been waiting outside the whole time.
The moment Fang Yiyi opened the door, they anxiously asked about their son.
When they heard that he was awake, they were overjoyed and immediately rushed to him.
The family was reunited in happiness.
Fang Yiyi quietly waited outside and did not disturb them.
Ten minutes later, Mr. Chen came out specifically to thank her.
“This time, it was all thanks to you, Miss Fang!”
Remembering that she had disappointed Li Ting’s expectations, Fang Yiyi looked away and avoided his gaze, feeling extremely guilty.
The Chen family wanted Fang Yiyi to stay for a meal, but she politely refused.
They asked for her contact information, but she directly declined.
So they skipped straight to discussing payment.
Fang Yiyi thought for a long time, then tentatively raised three fingers.
She wondered whether Mr. Chen would think 3,000 yuan was too much.
If he did, she could lower the price.
Mr. Chen happily agreed at once.
“Of course, Miss Fang. Three hundred thousand yuan, correct?”
“I’ll have my assistant transfer it to you shortly.”
“Would it be convenient for you to provide your bank account number?”
“…”
Fang Yiyi’s eyes went completely blank.
“Y-Yes. That would be convenient…”
Since it was still raining, she did not refuse Mr. Chen’s offer to have his driver take her back to the university.
Throughout the journey, Driver Zhao tried to speak to her.
She did not hear a single word.
Her mind was entirely filled with the number three hundred thousand.
The moment she returned to Dormitory 404 and stepped through the door, Fang Yiyi collapsed against it and sat on the floor.
Li Ting floated out of the Buddhist bead and frowned at her.
“What kind of episode are you having now?”
Fang Yiyi slowly raised her head and looked at Li Ting in a daze.
In a distant voice, she asked, “Senior, what does money mean to rich people?”
At that exact moment, her phone vibrated twice.
As though sensing what it was, Fang Yiyi picked it up with an excited heart.
Sure enough, it was a message confirming that the bank transfer had arrived.
Fang Yiyi immediately turned off the screen and placed the phone facedown.
She leaned the back of her head against the door and stared blankly into space.
The long string of zeros had dazzled her.
She even wondered whether she was dreaming.
Only yesterday, she had been so poor she could not produce even five hundred yuan.
Now, only one day later, she already had several hundred thousand yuan in savings.
Life truly was full of dramatic ups and downs.
Li Ting was rendered speechless.
“Stop acting as though you’ve never seen money before.”
“Chen Lihui is the richest real-estate businessman in City A. This amount means nothing to him.”
“No wonder his name sounded familiar!”
Fang Yiyi suddenly understood.
“I’ve seen him online before!”
“Mm.”
Li Ting’s lips curled into a mocking smile.
“And don’t flatter yourself.”
“He gave you three hundred thousand because he thinks that’s all you’re worth.”
“If it had been some smooth-talking, fraudulent Daoist priest instead, he could have charged three million, and Chen Lihui wouldn’t even have blinked.”
“I see…”
Fang Yiyi said, “Then the three thousand yuan I originally planned to ask for really wasn’t too much.”
“How much?”
For once, Li Ting was genuinely shocked.
“Three thousand…”
Fang Yiyi looked at her without understanding and said quietly, “I even thought that if he considered it too expensive, I could lower it to three hundred.”
“Have you never seen money in your entire life?!”
Fang Yiyi honestly nodded.
“No.”
Li Ting could no longer endure it.
“What made you think that my intervention was worth only three hundred yuan?!”
“I’m sorry. Next time—”
“Shut up!”
Li Ting did not want to hear another one of Fang Yiyi’s promises about “next time.”
She decided to use another method to vent her anger.
“Get up off the floor, wash yourself clean, and go lie down on the bed!”
