Carrying My Senior's Coffin (GL) - Chapter 19
Only when the man stepped in front of her did Fang Yiyi stop, just as Li Ting had instructed.
“Miss, what did you mean by what you said just now?” The man was slightly out of breath.
“Is that your son?”
Fang Yiyi nodded and glanced blankly toward the space beside him. Her expression was calm, but on closer inspection, there was also a trace of confusion in it.
“He’s very cute.”
The man was a self-made entrepreneur and naturally skilled at reading people.
He instinctively followed Fang Yiyi’s gaze.
There was nothing there.
His heart jolted.
Half overjoyed and half worried, he hurriedly asked, “You know my son? My son… where is he?”
He immediately dismissed the possibility that the young woman before him knew his son personally.
His son was only three years old and had never been left unattended. Someone watched him closely around the clock, and he had never gone anywhere outside the area around their home, much less spoken to strangers.
“He’s right beside you.”
Fang Yiyi looked at the sky.
It was perfectly clear, and the sun was so bright it hurt her eyes. She narrowed them, lying without the slightest change in expression.
“He has big eyes and is very cute. I saw him anxiously repeating the same sentence, as though he wanted to tell you something but couldn’t get the message across. It was really pitiful to watch.”
“It seems like it’s about to rain. Aren’t you going home, sir?”
After a pause, she added, “The young master seems very anxious.”
By then, the driver had caught up.
He held an umbrella in his hand. After hearing their conversation, he wiped away his sweat, opened the umbrella, and held it over the man’s head.
“How could it rain in weather this sunny?”
“Mr. Chen loves his son deeply and hopes the young master will recover soon, but you still need to be careful not to let others take advantage of you.”
As he spoke, he gave Fang Yiyi an unfriendly look.
Fang Yiyi pouted.
Although she truly could not see any little boy and did not think it would rain, Senior was always right.
If Senior said there was a little boy, then there had to be one.
If Senior said it would rain, then it would definitely rain.
“Xiao Zhao.”
The man raised a hand to stop the driver from saying anything else.
Then he turned to Fang Yiyi.
“My friend is straightforward and sometimes speaks without thinking. Please don’t be offended.”
“To be honest, my youngest son fell ill and has not woken up for nearly half a year.”
“We’ve sought medical treatment everywhere, but no one has been able to help.”
“My wife is miserable every day and often cries. Our family is barely a family anymore.”
“Since you can see my son, do you have any way to cure him?”
Fang Yiyi asked, “Aren’t you afraid I’m a fraud?”
The man replied, “My wife has been having dreams these past few days, and what she dreamed was almost exactly the same as what you just described.”
“Before my son fell ill, he had a little wooden rocking horse he loved very much. He even held it while sleeping.”
“But that rocking horse disappeared half a month ago.”
“Neither my wife nor I have ever told anyone about the dream.”
Li Ting said, “His son is being haunted by a little ghost. It can be treated.”
Fang Yiyi raised her chin.
“I can treat him, but I want payment. I need money.”
Li Ting: “…”
She had suddenly been smacked in the face by Fang Yiyi’s poverty.
The man was overjoyed.
“Of course, of course. That won’t be a problem.”
“My surname is Chen. Chen Lihui. May I ask your name?”
Chen Lihui?
Fang Yiyi blinked.
The name sounded strangely familiar.
“Fang Yiyi.”
Fang Yiyi was invited into the car and sat in the back seat beside Mr. Chen as they drove toward his home.
Fang Yiyi was accustomed to silence and disliked talking.
Whenever Mr. Chen asked her a question, she answered only that question.
Since he still needed this mysterious young woman to save his son, he did not dare ask too much.
The driver still thought Fang Yiyi looked like a fraud, but since his employer had spoken, he could not say anything.
As a result, the car was extremely quiet.
That was why the first raindrop striking the window sounded especially loud.
Everyone in the car heard it.
The driver’s eyes widened.
He instinctively checked the time.
Only eight minutes had passed since Fang Yiyi entered the car.
Eight minutes ago, the sun had been blazing.
The weather forecast had also predicted clear skies.
Who could have expected the weather to change so suddenly and rain to begin so quickly?
“This…”
The driver stared in astonishment and blurted out, “That’s far too coincidental.”
“It’s like artificial rainfall. It came the moment you said it would.”
“Could it really not be a coincidence?”
Hearing this, Fang Yiyi understood that he still did not believe her.
Whether he believed Fang Yiyi did not matter.
But doubting Senior was infuriating.
Fang Yiyi grew angry.
Unfortunately, her timid personality meant she did not know how to lose her temper.
She could only grip her own arms with both hands and exhale heavily.
To everyone else, it looked as though she had become angry after being questioned but was restraining herself out of good manners.
Mr. Chen’s expression hardened.
“Xiao Zhao! Just drive!”
The driver realized he had spoken out of turn and hurriedly said, “Boss, that’s not what I meant…”
Before he could finish, he saw his employer’s dark expression in the rearview mirror and promptly shut his mouth.
The car entered a beautifully landscaped villa community.
As they passed the front gate, Fang Yiyi glanced at the name.
Fenglun County.
It looked familiar.
Fang Yiyi froze, then suddenly remembered seeing the place mentioned on an online forum.
It was the most exclusive residential district in City A, somewhere even money alone could not get a person into.
Fang Yiyi began to feel uneasy.
Was this Mr. Chen really that influential?
Was it too risky for her to make a deal with him and ask him for money?
For no apparent reason, Fang Yiyi began wanting to retreat.
She did not doubt Li Ting.
She was simply timid.
The car smoothly entered the courtyard of a detached European-style villa.
As the automatic iron gate slowly closed behind them, Fang Yiyi blinked nervously.
She worked hard to compose herself and avoid appearing frightened.
As soon as the car stopped, Mr. Chen got out without waiting for the driver to open his door.
He walked around to Fang Yiyi’s side and personally opened the door for her.
“Miss Fang, we’ve arrived.”
Fang Yiyi: “…”
This level of treatment!
She got out of the car without daring to breathe too loudly and said nothing.
What was there to say?
What if she grew nervous and started stammering?
That would be so embarrassing for Senior!
Mr. Chen led Fang Yiyi inside.
Mrs. Chen, who had already heard the news, was waiting at the entrance.
She was dressed elegantly and held a wooden horse toy in her hands.
Her hair was arranged perfectly, and she wore makeup, yet Fang Yiyi still thought she looked exhausted and haggard.
“Good afternoon, Mrs. Chen. Sorry to disturb you.”
Fang Yiyi finally spoke the words she had rehearsed for a long time.
“No, no, not at all,” Mrs. Chen said.
“We’re the ones troubling you.”
“For you to come and save our Jiayin, we truly are… extremely grateful.”
Mrs. Chen looked worried, and her emotions were sincere.
Fang Yiyi moved her lips.
Once again, she ran out of words.
She truly had no idea what to say!
“Miss Fang,” Mrs. Chen continued, fortunately still having more to say.
“I heard that you can see Jiayin.”
“Is he… here now?”
Fang Yiyi blinked.
After several seconds, she answered, “He’s reaching for the wooden horse in your hands.”
“Oh… I see.”
“We only just found this. It was all thanks to you, Miss Fang.”
Seeing the object reminded Mrs. Chen of her son, and she looked close to tears.
She hurriedly placed the wooden horse on a nearby cartoon stool, wiped away her tears, and spoke softly toward it.
“Jiayin, play with it properly.”
“Mommy won’t take your toy.”
“When you’re done playing, hurry home, all right?”
“Mommy misses you.”
Mr. Chen walked over and supported his wife by the shoulders, helping her stand.
His emotions also seemed close to overwhelming him.
He turned to Fang Yiyi.
“Miss Fang, shall we go see Jiayin now?”
Fang Yiyi could not bear seeing people cry, but she also had no idea how to comfort them.
She had been internally panicking over what to do.
At his words, she immediately replied, “Yes. Let’s go now.”
“I’ll go with you,” Mrs. Chen said, wiping away her tears.
Chen Jiayin’s room was on the second floor.
At the turn in the staircase, a beautiful ragdoll cat lay sprawled there, its large tail swishing lazily.
When it saw them, it gave a sweet meow.
Fang Yiyi’s attention was instantly captured.
So cute!!!
She screamed wildly inside her heart.
Mrs. Chen picked up the cat and explained, “This is Yuyu. It usually likes sleeping on the sofa.”
Fang Yiyi: “…”
“So this is Yuyu.”
She had thought Yuyu was the name of a little girl.
The young master’s room was to the left of the staircase.
The moment Fang Yiyi entered, she suddenly felt a wave of coldness.
She asked Mr. Chen, “Mr. Chen, isn’t the air conditioner set too low in here?”
Mr. Chen froze.
Now that she had mentioned it, the room did indeed seem unusually cold.
He looked toward the young nanny standing beside the bed.
The girl hurriedly said, “No. The young master is afraid of the cold, so the temperature in this room is set higher than outside.”
“And it’s only on fan mode.”
Mr. Chen walked to the air-conditioner controls and checked.
It was exactly as the nanny had said.
Then he realized what Fang Yiyi was implying.
His expression became grave.
“You mean… there really is…”
Fang Yiyi looked somewhat dazed, as though her mind were drifting elsewhere.
She stared at Mr. Chen.
“This doesn’t seem like a natural occurrence.”
“Does anyone know your child’s exact birth date and time?”
Mrs. Chen was also intelligent and immediately understood.
She became both furious and shocked.
“Someone is trying to harm Jiayin?”
“Who could be so vicious?!”
Li Ting had already finished explaining the situation to Fang Yiyi.
Fang Yiyi reassured her, “Mrs. Chen, please don’t panic yet.”
“We can’t be completely certain.”
“But it does seem deliberately targeted, and whatever is coming after him is extremely aggressive.”
She looked toward the only small bed in the room.
A little child as pale and delicate as carved jade lay quietly upon it.
