Carrying My Senior's Coffin (GL) - Chapter 34
No one had expected Fang Yiyi to appear so suddenly, and an unnatural look flashed across everyone’s faces.
Bai Xuan sneered, “Well, look who finally crawled out. You evil thing. Why don’t you run away again?”
If Fang Yiyi had been alone, she naturally would not have argued with her.
It was not because she was afraid. Although Fang Yiyi had always been bullied, she had never truly felt fear. She simply lacked the words to fight back and never knew what to say. If she handled it poorly, it might even backfire and give the other person another opportunity to frame her.
But today was different.
She had Li Ting with her.
“If I’m as frightening as you claim, aren’t you afraid that saying such things about me will bring misfortune upon yourself?”
Having someone there to support her truly made a difference.
Fang Yiyi held her head high and straightened her back. Her confidence was overflowing, and even her voice became considerably louder.
“Huh?”
Bai Xuan laughed in anger and stared at her with wide eyes, finding the situation somewhat unreal.
Only a few days ago, Fang Yiyi had run away in terror the moment she saw her. Now, she dared come straight up and challenge her, and even her entire presence seemed completely different.
It was enough to make one wonder whether Fang Yiyi had developed a split personality.
“What? Are you planning to curse me to death now?”
“You ate my family’s food and lived under our roof. It’s bad enough that you don’t know gratitude, but now you’re planning to repay kindness with cruelty?”
Bai Xuan spoke with absolute conviction, neither blushing nor losing her breath.
At the end, she even frowned as though she genuinely could not believe Fang Yiyi would repay kindness with betrayal.
Her expression naturally blended heartbreak, regret, shock, and anger.
Her acting was worthy of an award.
Even Fang Yiyi nearly believed her.
“What a shame,” Fang Yiyi said.
Bai Xuan did not hear clearly. “What did you say?”
“Your talents are being wasted. You should have applied to a film academy. Studying architecture is really… burying your potential.”
“Um, are you Bai Xuan’s older sister?” one of the girls asked Fang Yiyi.
“Ah, yes. Hello.”
Fang Yiyi had not expected anyone to speak to her, so she froze before answering.
The girl looked Fang Yiyi up and down, then said to her companion, “Bai Xuan’s older sister is really beautiful. Her clothes look great too. She’s nothing like how Bai Xuan described her.”
Her companion agreed.
“So this is the cousin who’s supposedly filthy, careless about her appearance, unbearably unfashionable, and looks like an idiot? Then what does that make us?”
The first girl thought for a moment.
“…Barely human?”
They openly commented on Fang Yiyi’s appearance right in front of her as though she did not exist.
Although they were not saying anything bad, Fang Yiyi still felt uncomfortable.
It was unbearably awkward.
Bai Xuan was so furious that she could not help demanding, “Whose side are you two on?”
The two girls exchanged a glance.
“This isn’t about taking sides. Even when you’re insulting someone, you should stick to the facts. Making things up out of thin air is…”
“Pretty vicious,” the other girl finished.
Ever since Bai Xuan humiliated herself outside the supermarket, she had become infamous within her class.
Previously, she had portrayed herself as the pitiful younger sister whose ungrateful older cousin stole all her resources, gaining a great deal of sympathy.
But she had personally destroyed that image overnight, and her current situation was not particularly good.
At last, an incident like this had occurred, giving her the perfect opportunity to repair her reputation.
Yet Fang Yiyi had chosen this exact moment to interfere.
She truly was impossible to shake off!
Fine, speaking about Fang Yiyi behind her back had been wrong.
But—but what she said was not entirely false!
The entire situation was mysterious and bizarre.
Back in their hometown, Fang Yiyi really did enjoy running off to graveyards.
Admittedly, Bai Xuan had deliberately dumped Fang Yiyi’s food, and Fang Yiyi had gone crying beside her parents’ gravestones because she felt wronged.
So what?
Did that erase the fact that Bai Xuan’s father had to search for her in the middle of the night?
Besides, Bai Xuan had already been punished.
Her father had given her a solid beating, and she had hurt for three whole days!
As for Dormitory 404, had it not always been known as the haunted dormitory?
Bai Xuan had indeed come into contact with Fang Yiyi as well.
She also knew about the recent incident in which six students from Fang Yiyi’s class had been expelled.
All of them had frequently interacted with Fang Yiyi.
There were even rumors that the first student expelled for supposedly going insane was already dead.
Did that not prove Fang Yiyi was sinister?
Was Bai Xuan not merely telling the truth?
Was telling the truth somehow wrong these days?
Just because Fang Yiyi was her relative, was she supposed to conceal everything and allow more uninformed fools to approach Fang Yiyi and die?!
The more Bai Xuan thought about it, the more righteous she felt.
She even developed a faint sense of pride, as though she were sacrificing family ties for the greater good in order to protect other people’s lives.
“Believe me or not. I’m only warning you for your own good.”
Bai Xuan rolled her eyes and arrogantly raised her chin.
“When death comes knocking, don’t regret ignoring me.”
The two girls clearly did not believe her.
They snorted, took each other’s hands, and walked away.
As they passed Fang Yiyi, the girl who had spoken to her first tugged her companion to a stop and gave Fang Yiyi a sweet smile.
“Bai Xuan’s older sister, I was there outside the supermarket last time. I watched the whole thing.”
“What an incredible performance!”
“Don’t worry. We believe you.”
Bai Xuan’s eyes widened furiously.
“You two… just wait!”
No one paid her any attention.
Flattered and surprised, Fang Yiyi immediately said, “Ah, thank you.”
Once the two girls left, only Bai Xuan and Fang Yiyi remained in the covered walkway.
“Fang Yiyi!”
Bai Xuan shouted at her.
“Why do you keep haunting me? What exactly do you want?!”
Fang Yiyi found the accusation unbelievable.
“Why would you say that? What right do you have to speak to me like this?”
“You dare insult me?!”
Overcome with anger, Bai Xuan rushed forward and tried to hit her.
“Your younger cousin is certainly something.”
Li Ting, whose figure remained hidden, whispered beside Fang Yiyi’s ear.
“Are you going to hit her?”
Fang Yiyi caught Bai Xuan’s wrist and smoothly executed a grappling move.
Bai Xuan’s back slammed against the ground.
“I am!”
Fang Yiyi dusted off her hands and looked at Bai Xuan grimacing in pain on the floor.
A delighted sigh escaped her.
Taking revenge really felt wonderful!
“Fang Yiyi, you know martial arts now?! You even dared hit me!”
“Just wait! If you ever fall into my hands in the future, I’ll definitely kill you!”
Li Ting said, “Keep hitting her. Kick her.”
Fang Yiyi hesitated.
“If you don’t kick her, I’ll kick you.”
Fang Yiyi immediately kicked Bai Xuan in the waist, sending her rolling several times across the floor.
Bai Xuan burst into tears with a loud wail.
Fang Yiyi walked over, crouched beside her, and asked, “Are you still going to spread rumors?”
Bai Xuan’s eyes were red, and her gaze overflowed with hatred.
Fang Yiyi took that as a yes.
She rubbed her nose and asked again, “How about apologizing?”
Bai Xuan spat through her tears.
“Pah!”
Fang Yiyi drew a deep breath.
“Then I suppose I’ll have to keep hitting you.”
“Go ahead and beat me to death if you’re capable!”
Bai Xuan shouted.
“You’ll never be allowed back into my house again for the rest of your life!”
Li Ting interjected, “Aren’t her parents currently living in your family’s house?”
Fang Yiyi froze.
Then she looked at Bai Xuan.
“The place I return to has never been your house.”
With that, she grabbed Bai Xuan by the collar and slapped her twice.
Slap! Slap!
“FANG YIYI!”
Bai Xuan’s scream cracked from the strain.
“Go ahead. Keep screaming.”
Realizing Fang Yiyi truly would hit her again, Bai Xuan shrank her neck in fear and fell silent.
However, she still did not apologize.
She turned her face away, pressed her lips tightly together, and began thinking about how she would deal with Fang Yiyi later.
Fang Yiyi had completely rebelled!
No one could control her anymore.
She had even climbed directly over Bai Xuan’s head!
How dare she?
In truth, Fang Yiyi was not nearly as calm as she appeared.
This was the first time she had ever hit someone.
Although she felt vindicated, the weakness ingrained deeply within her could not disappear overnight.
She felt both exhilarated and frightened.
Had Li Ting not been there, she would have fled already.
However, she stubbornly refused to show even the slightest fear.
Fang Yiyi knew Li Ting had always despised her cowardice.
She also understood that some things had to be overcome and changed.
Otherwise, wherever she went, the outcome would always be the same—she would quickly fall to the lowest position within any group.
Only a short amount of time remained in her life.
She had tasted how good it felt to fight back and no longer wanted to return to those bleak, lightless days.
She needed to make the most of the life she had left, treat herself well, and refuse to endure further humiliation or bullying.
Thin strands of cold air suddenly wound across her skin.
Fang Yiyi froze.
After her previous encounters, she knew what this meant.
Another ghost had arrived.
But right now…
Fang Yiyi glanced at Bai Xuan lying on the ground, then looked around.
The area was silent.
Not another person could be seen.
Only she and Bai Xuan remained.
“Get up,” Fang Yiyi told her.
Bai Xuan said nothing and continued ignoring her.
Fang Yiyi repeated, “Get up unless you want to die.”
Thinking Fang Yiyi intended to hit her again, Bai Xuan reluctantly climbed to her feet.
She raised her head and glared viciously at Fang Yiyi.
Then she saw something behind her.
Her body suddenly stiffened, and her pupils widened with terror.
Fang Yiyi followed her gaze and turned around.
Sure enough, a ghost stood behind her at a distance that was neither near nor far.
“A GHOST—AAAAAAAHHHHH!”
Bai Xuan let out an ear-piercing scream and turned to run.
In her panic, she slammed headfirst into a pillar.
“…”
Even Fang Yiyi felt pain just watching it.
“You…”
Fang Yiyi had barely spoken a single word when Bai Xuan covered her bleeding forehead, climbed back up, and continued running.
Fang Yiyi instinctively felt that Bai Xuan was running in the wrong direction.
She closed her eyes briefly and focused.
The familiar heat returned to her eyeballs.
Through the thin mist, she saw black energy wrapping around Bai Xuan’s entire body.
Bai Xuan charged resolutely straight toward the teaching building ahead while perfectly avoiding the shrubs, railings, and every other obstacle along the way.
At her current speed, she was likely to smash her head into the wall and die.
Yet Bai Xuan remained completely unaware and continued running at full speed.
“Bai Xuan! Stop!”
Fang Yiyi rushed after her while shouting.
Bai Xuan ignored her completely.
“BAI XUAN!”
Just before Bai Xuan struck the wall, Fang Yiyi finally caught up.
She seized her arm and yanked her backward.
“What are you doing? Where are you running?!”
Bai Xuan flung her hand away and shouted angrily, “Why are you pulling me? If you want to die, go die by yourself! Don’t drag me down with you!”
Fang Yiyi laughed in exasperation.
“Look in front of you.”
Bai Xuan raised her head.
Her face instantly turned pale with terror.
She had clearly been running along an asphalt road moments ago.
How had she suddenly ended up inside a flower bed?
Then she saw the ghost following them.
It was standing directly behind Fang Yiyi!
“A GHOST!”
Bai Xuan grabbed Fang Yiyi and shoved her in front of herself as a shield before turning to run in another direction.
“That way is—”
Before Fang Yiyi could finish, Bai Xuan’s leg struck a hedge, and she fell headfirst into the bushes.
The ghost swept past Fang Yiyi and followed her inside.
However, it did not touch Bai Xuan.
Instead, it lay flat on the ground, raised its head, and brought its face directly in front of hers.
A piercing scream erupted from within the bushes.
“AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!”
Fang Yiyi sniffed and said, “Serves you right.”
When the ghost first appeared, Li Ting had already explained that it was relatively weak.
It was nowhere near powerful enough to kill someone physically.
At most, it could frighten people and create an illusion similar to a ghostly maze.
Whether its victim died depended entirely on their courage and was largely a matter of luck.
Someone with heart disease might be frightened to death.
Or if the person was especially timid, like Bai Xuan, they might manage to kill themselves by running into something despite being perfectly healthy.
If that happened, then this ghost must have checked the almanac before leaving home.
It would truly be its lucky day.
