Carrying My Senior's Coffin (GL) - Chapter 30
“I heard everything.”
Li Yu lowered her eyes slightly, lips pressed together. Her tone revealed no emotion.
“Do you like girls, Sister? If Dad finds out, you’ll lose your inheritance rights.”
Li Chenghai had lost a wife because he wanted a son, and the experience had left him with something of a psychological shadow.
After marrying Li Ting’s mother, he stopped obsessing over having a son and began focusing on cultivating his two daughters instead.
He held especially high hopes for Li Ting.
However, Li Ting had no desire to inherit the company.
She had no interest in becoming a boss herself. Compared to that, she would rather work for someone else, commute between home and the office, and collect a fixed salary.
It would be even better if Li Yu were her boss.
That way, it would probably be easier to ask for leave.
Li Chenghai knew this, but he did not care. He merely regarded it as youthful ignorance and arrogance.
Li Yu knew too, but she was not happy about it, because their father still never treated her kindly.
Li Ting knew that Li Yu had a knot in her heart.
A small part of it came from Li Chenghai’s attitude, but most of it stemmed from Li Yu’s mother.
Li Yu’s mother had been a simple woman.
She had been carefully protected since childhood and had never suffered any grievances before marrying Li Chenghai.
Even after marrying him, she had continued living without much hardship—until she discovered the existence of Li Ting and her mother.
When had a pampered young lady, cherished in the palms of everyone’s hands since birth, ever suffered such an unbearable humiliation?
She immediately turned the entire household upside down.
She had no understanding of schemes or subtle maneuvering. She simply followed her emotions, doing whatever came to mind.
First, she sent people to search for Li Ting and her mother.
However, Li Chenghai had anticipated this and hidden them extremely well.
All the resources she could mobilize belonged to Li Chenghai in the first place, so how could she possibly find them?
After that, she tried every common tactic available to a wronged wife.
She threw tantrums, rolled on the floor, cried, made scenes, threatened to hang herself, and called upon her maternal family for help.
The scandal became known to everyone, and not a trace of her former dignity as a wealthy young lady remained.
But by then, Li Chenghai was no longer the same Li Chenghai she had married.
Her family could not help her.
Instead, they advised her to remain calm and endure.
She had already lost her husband’s heart; she absolutely could not lose her status as Mrs. Li as well.
A girl who had relied on others her entire life could not suddenly divorce, build a business, become successful, and return triumphantly to slap everyone in the face.
Li Chenghai did not return home for an entire six months.
No one answered her cries, whether to heaven or earth.
She spent every day in a daze, her pride gradually ground away.
By the time she saw Li Chenghai again, she had become a perfect wife—submissive, gentle, virtuous, and magnanimous.
Li Chenghai was extremely satisfied.
Later, when Li Chenghai wanted a son, she disregarded her own health and gritted her teeth through another pregnancy.
She did it partly because she feared Li Ting’s mother might give birth to a son first.
But that pregnancy cost her life.
Therefore, Li Ting and her mother bore at least some indirect responsibility for Li Yu’s mother’s death.
When Li Ting first met Li Yu, the little girl coldly shoved her to the ground while her guard was down.
Li Ting ran to complain to her mother.
Her mother then told her the entire truth, without hiding anything.
For all these years, Li Ting had carried guilt in her heart.
She had also done everything she could to treat Li Yu well.
Li Ting was very intelligent.
She had perfectly inherited her mother’s ability to read people, notice the smallest details, and understand others’ feelings.
How could Li Yu’s hidden hatred possibly escape her eyes?
She knew Li Yu hated her.
She also knew that years of repression had caused Li Yu to develop mild manic and anxiety disorders.
She knew Li Yu often carried a dagger and that every time their father scolded her, she would find somewhere deserted and stab wildly at the air to vent her emotions.
Li Ting watched all of it in silence.
Considering Li Yu’s emotional state, she pretended not to know while continuing to treat her as well as she possibly could.
She believed people’s hearts were made of flesh.
As long as she continued treating Li Yu kindly, then given enough time, Li Yu would surely let go of the knot in her heart and live happily.
“Wouldn’t that be perfect? I don’t want it anyway.”
Li Ting smiled at Li Yu.
“Come on. Are you hungry? What do you want to eat? I’ll go with you.”
Three days later, Li Ting’s birthday arrived.
For the sake of attending her birthday, Chen Sike deliberately canceled her flight and planned to reunite with her parents after the celebration.
She and Tongtong arrived at the Li residence early that morning.
They rushed around helping prepare for the Li family’s eldest daughter’s birthday banquet, blowing up balloons, cutting paper flowers, and decorating the rooms.
Li Ting was no help whatsoever.
She was busy searching everywhere for Li Yu, running up and down the stairs with hurried footsteps.
That morning, Li Yu and Li Chenghai had apparently gotten into another argument.
After giving Li Yu a harsh scolding, Li Chenghai threw her out of his study.
Li Ting hurried over after hearing the commotion.
All she heard was the sharp, crisp sound of a cup smashing against the floor, followed by an angry shout.
“When will you ever become half as sensible as your sister? Get out and reflect on yourself!”
Li Ting’s heart sank.
Immediately afterward, she saw Li Yu storm out and slam the door.
The sisters’ gazes met.
Li Yu looked at her heavily but said nothing.
Then she turned and headed downstairs.
Li Ting instinctively moved to follow.
As she passed the study, Li Chenghai called from inside.
“Tingting, come in! Leave her alone!”
Li Ting had no choice.
She looked worriedly in Li Yu’s direction, sighed, and entered the study.
Li Chenghai praised her academic results, then asked her several economic questions.
After offering a few more compliments, father and daughter held a serious half-hour discussion about education.
By the time Li Ting emerged, Li Yu had disappeared.
After searching the entire house without success, Li Ting stood on the third-floor balcony of the villa and stared into the distance beyond the front gate.
Several strands of hair fell loose in front of her.
Li Ting caught them in her palm and lamented hopelessly that she had taken another step toward shaving her head and becoming a nun.
Li Yu still had not returned by the time the banquet began.
The eighteenth birthday celebration of the Li family’s eldest daughter was grand and lively.
Nearly every prominent figure in A City attended.
Everyone was busy socializing and meeting new acquaintances.
As the star of the event, Li Ting showed her face only at the beginning before hiding in a corner to drink with her friends.
She was also using the occasion to hold a farewell gathering for Chen Sike.
Li Ting was worried about Li Yu and could not help drinking more than usual.
Chen Sike sat beside her holding a bottle.
Whenever Li Ting’s glass emptied even slightly, she refilled it.
This happened again and again until she successfully got Li Ting drunk.
“Li Ting is drunk. I’ll take her somewhere to rest. Li Yu isn’t here, so Tongtong, stay behind and help entertain the guests.”
Li Ting was taken to a bedroom in a daze.
She behaved well when drunk.
All she wanted to do was sleep.
She was unbearably sleepy, but someone kept murmuring beside her ear and refusing to let her rest.
It was incredibly irritating.
“…Am I not good enough?”
Her restrictive jacket was removed, making her arms feel much lighter.
“Do you know that the person you cherish most wants to kill you?”
Someone flipped Li Ting over like a salted fish and undid the buttons running down the back of her formal dress one by one.
“…It doesn’t matter. Anyone who hurts you will disappear forever.”
The voice was calm, yet filled with intense obsession.
Something soft pressed against her forehead.
Immediately afterward, her dress was removed as well.
The chill of the air cleared Li Ting’s head somewhat.
“I’ll protect you.”
“Don’t worry. I sent my fiercest ghost after her. She’ll disappear soon and never bother you again. No one will ever know…”
Chen Sike’s soft voice drifted into her ears.
…Hm?
What?
Li Ting spent a second or two processing that information.
Then Li Yu, who had been missing for the entire day, abruptly appeared in her mind.
Li Ting instantly sobered.
She sat up and shoved Chen Sike away.
Rubbing her aching forehead, she asked, “What did you just say?”
“Oh, you’re awake?”
Chen Sike stared blankly for a moment, then pouted and complained in a spoiled tone.
“Don’t misunderstand. I was only changing your clothes. I didn’t do anything else.”
The more Li Ting thought about it, the more wrong it felt.
Those words still echoed clearly in her ears.
She was certain she had not dreamed them.
“Not that. What were you muttering just now? You’re going to kill someone?”
Chen Sike frowned irritably and glanced at her before speaking softly.
“Honestly… could you not bring up such a bloody subject?”
“I’ve spent so long running around helping with everything that my feet are blistered. Can’t you look at me for once?”
“Keke…”
Li Ting sighed, sounding as if she were addressing an unreasonable child.
She knew exactly what kind of person Chen Sike was.
Beneath that harmless appearance lay a heart more ruthless than anyone else’s.
Most likely, Li Yu had done something and Chen Sike had witnessed it.
Realizing she could no longer fool her, Chen Sike stopped pretending.
She leaned against the tatami mat, folded her hands in front of herself, and let her expression become indifferent.
Her gaze turned cold.
“She kept swinging a knife while screaming for you to die. She shouted your name while stabbing several teddy bears to pieces.”
“I saw everything.”
“Your sister can’t be tamed. Why do you care whether she lives or dies?”
Li Ting froze.
The moment she understood the implication behind those words, her heart jolted violently and her expression changed.
She stepped forward, grabbed Chen Sike by the collar, and demanded sharply, “You sent the ghost you raised to kill Li Yu?”
“Are you insane?”
“That’s murder! You’ll go to prison!”
The corner of Chen Sike’s lips lifted.
She calmly peeled Li Ting’s fingers away from her collar one by one.
“Anyone who intends to hurt you will disappear.”
“No matter what price I have to pay.”
“You really are insane.”
Li Ting stepped back and stared at her in disbelief.
“Where is Xiaoyu?”
Chen Sike did not answer.
She merely gazed steadily at Li Ting, her expression resembling a smile while her eyes overflowed with affection.
Knowing she had no intention of speaking, Li Ting did not waste any more time.
She grabbed a jacket, threw it around herself carelessly, and turned to leave.
“Wait!”
Chen Sike called out to stop her.
Avoiding Li Ting’s gaze, she tossed over a protective talisman folded from rice paper.
Her voice carried unwillingness.
“I don’t want you to hate me.”
“This is a ghost-repelling talisman. I made it myself.”
“With it, none of the ghosts I raised will come near you.”
“But it can’t get wet.”
“If you make it in time…”
“I wasn’t lying. I truly don’t know where she is.”
Li Ting said nothing.
She accepted the talisman, turned, and left.
Watching Li Ting’s figure disappear, Chen Sike slowly raised a hand and smoothed out every wrinkle in her collar.
Her eyes grew dark and profound.
In a voice only she could hear, she murmured, “Lock her up…”
“If she’s locked away, she won’t be able to run.”
Li Ting hurried outside.
At the stairway, she happened to encounter Tongtong, who had come looking for them.
“Li Ting, where are you going?”
Without looking back, Li Ting answered, “I’m going out for a while!”
“…Weren’t you drunk?”
Tongtong stared blankly as Li Ting rushed downstairs like a gust of wind and finished the rest of her sentence too late.
Li Ting searched every place she could think of but found nothing.
Finally, with little more than a faint hope, she went to her university dormitory.
Fortunately, the door was open.
Li Ting was worried about Li Yu’s safety.
Without thinking, she pushed the door open and entered.
In the darkness, a cold glint flashed from the side.
Li Ting froze.
Her body reacted faster than her mind, and she immediately stepped backward.
Even so, the blade still struck her arm.
She snapped on the light.
Li Yu stood where Li Ting had entered moments earlier.
Her eyes were red and filled with tears.
She reeked of alcohol and gripped a bloodstained dagger in her hand.
Crushed beer cans lay scattered around her feet, while pale-golden liquid had spilled across the floor.
Li Ting frowned.
Ignoring the wound on her arm, she asked, “Xiaoyu, why are you crying? Have you been drinking?”
Li Yu was crying so hard she could barely breathe.
She screamed at Li Ting through her sobs.
“Go die!”
As she spoke, she swung the dagger again.
Li Ting had no choice but to dodge.
Li Yu was drunk and did not possess much strength to begin with.
She held the dagger weakly and waved it around without any order.
Li Ting was afraid of hurting her.
They remained locked in a stalemate for several minutes before Li Ting finally found an opportunity to seize the dagger.
“Calm down!”
Using her uninjured arm, she pulled Li Yu into an embrace and restrained her so she could no longer struggle.
Unable to resist, Li Yu lowered her head and bit viciously into Li Ting’s arm.
“Hiss—”
Li Ting sucked in a breath from the pain.
Blood soaked through her clothing and dripped to the floor one drop at a time.
Perhaps the smell of blood stimulated her senses.
Li Yu finally released her bite and collapsed weakly against Li Ting, crying in her arms.
“You’re so horrible. I hate you!”
“You and your mother killed my mom and stole my dad…”
“Everyone likes you…”
“Why?”
“All of that was supposed to belong to me.”
“It was supposed to be mine alone.”
“You…”
“What right did you have to steal my life?”
Li Ting silently listened to those accusations from the depths of Li Yu’s heart.
She gently patted her back and helped smooth her breathing.
At the same time, she wondered how Li Yu, who was not even a student at this university, had managed to openly carry so much beer into the dormitory and become this drunk.
From the corner of her eye, she suddenly noticed a figure standing near the bathroom door.
She instinctively looked over.
The moment she saw it clearly, her pupils abruptly widened.
A woman stood there dressed in an ancient crimson phoenix coronet and ceremonial wedding robes.
Her arms hung limply at her sides.
Her skin had an unnatural bluish-white hue, and she held a red silk handkerchief embroidered with gold thread.
Her cheeks were shriveled and rotting.
Numerous thumb-sized insects crawled in and out of the decaying flesh.
The places where her pupils should have been appeared to have been forcibly gouged out with a knife, leaving behind two empty cavities.
Two streams of blood ran from them.
Countless tiny insects clung inside the sockets, while black specks crawled across what remained of her eyes.
Her entire head resembled a nest overrun by parasites.
She stood there silently.
No one knew how long she had been watching them.
Author’s Note:
Chen Sike: Anyone who hurts you will disappear forever—even your younger sister.
Her smile gradually becomes unhinged.
