Carrying My Senior's Coffin (GL) - Chapter 25
“Don’t be nervous. Just say whatever happened,” Li Ting continued.
Fang Yiyi took a deep breath.
Everything around her seemed to disappear, leaving only Li Ting’s words circling endlessly inside her mind.
Calm down…
Fang Yiyi tried her best to keep her voice steady.
“You’re the one twisting the truth. After I received the compensation money, you asked me for it. When I refused, you called Uncle and Aunt…”
“How could you say something like that?!”
Bai Xuan interrupted her with a shriek, eyes widening as though she had suffered a terrible injustice.
“Which one of your expenses over all these years wasn’t paid by my family? Don’t you have a conscience saying something like that?”
Fang Yiyi’s face was frighteningly pale.
Her lips were pressed tightly together, and her eyes were filled with fear, yet her back remained perfectly straight.
She looked unwilling to yield, helpless yet stubbornly determined to fight to the end.
Bai Xuan took in every detail of her behavior and mocked, “You claim I asked you for money. Do you have evidence?”
“Can people accuse others without any proof now?”
Li Ting said, “Call her mother.”
Fang Yiyi froze.
Clenching her fist, she reached into her pocket.
When she pulled out her phone, her hand was trembling slightly.
Ever since she was young, Fang Yiyi had always started shaking whenever she argued with someone or became emotionally agitated.
To outsiders, it looked as though she was trembling from fear.
In reality, she was simply so furious that her emotions overwhelmed her.
Bai Xuan assumed Fang Yiyi was about to hand over the phone as an apology and settle the matter.
She was already calculating where she could sell it for the closest possible price to its original value.
At the same time, she thought Fang Yiyi was a complete idiot for making such a fuss only to give in at the end.
“If you were going to do this eventually, why cause trouble in the first place?”
She had already prepared to accept the phone.
Unexpectedly, Fang Yiyi did not hand it to her.
Instead, she held it in one hand, tapped the screen several times, and the sound of a call waiting to connect rang out.
Bai Xuan’s eyelid twitched.
She did not immediately understand what Fang Yiyi was doing.
To make the call easier for everyone to hear, Fang Yiyi switched on the speaker and raised the volume to its maximum.
When her own mother’s voice came through, Bai Xuan finally realized what was happening.
Her expression changed dramatically, and she instinctively reached out to snatch the phone.
“Fang Yiyi, what are you doing?!”
Fang Yiyi sidestepped and easily avoided her.
Bai Xuan understood her mother’s personality better than anyone.
At that moment, she wanted nothing more than to tear Fang Yiyi apart and swallow her alive.
“Aunt,” Fang Yiyi said.
Bai Xuan’s mother was still furious about being blocked several days earlier.
Recently, whenever she had nothing else to do, she had been thinking about how she would punish Fang Yiyi after she came home.
She had not expected Fang Yiyi to call before she even got the chance to wait for her return.
Then she heard her own daughter’s voice in the background.
Assuming Fang Yiyi had upset Bai Xuan again, she immediately began cursing.
“You little bastard still know how to call me?”
“Why don’t you just die out there?!”
“If you died outside, our entire family could finally live in peace, you worthless, ill-mannered burden!”
The instant those words came through the speaker, the surrounding area fell silent.
Bai Xuan’s heart sank.
It’s over.
She hurriedly tried to salvage the situation.
“Mom, what are you saying?!”
However, both mother and daughter shared the habit of interrupting others.
“What do you mean, what am I saying? Xuanxuan, did that worthless girl give you the money yet?”
Fang Yiyi spoke at that moment.
“Aunt, that compensation money is for my medical treatment. I was badly beaten…”
“Badly beaten, my ass!”
“It’s serious just because you say it is?”
“Xuanxuan already told me that you didn’t even go to the hospital.”
“Hurry and give her the money. What, are you trying to line your own pockets?”
She had not received much education.
She had suddenly remembered a phrase she had heard in a television drama, used by the protagonist while scolding a corrupt villain.
Now that she had used it herself, she felt extremely proud, as though she had become an educated person.
Many people had gathered to watch.
Bai Xuan had deliberately attracted them so they would condemn Fang Yiyi.
She could never have imagined that, in the blink of an eye, she would become the person everyone discussed instead.
“Oh my god. What era are we living in? People like this still exist?”
“Did I just witness a live face-slapping scene? This must be what they mean by lifting a rock only to drop it on your own foot.”
“I thought it was strange. Fang Yiyi usually dresses so plainly and always looks like someone’s bullying her. She never seemed like the kind of person Bai Xuan described.”
“I know that younger sister. She’s usually arrogant and domineering. I guess ugliness really does show on the face.”
“I’ve seen Fang Yiyi too. She was beaten horribly that day. If they were really sisters, any normal person would have brought her something or at least sent money for medical treatment.”
“But instead, she tried to take the compensation money. That’s disgusting.”
“Someone this awful was right beside us all along. Wow… terrifying. I’m staying away from her from now on.”
Bai Xuan had never suffered such humiliation in her entire life.
She no longer cared whether people were watching.
Enraged, she charged forward to hit Fang Yiyi.
However, no matter how fast she was, she could not compare with Manman after she had become a ghost.
Fang Yiyi dodged.
Bai Xuan’s raised palm struck nothing.
She had used all her strength, never considering that Fang Yiyi might avoid the blow.
The momentum was too powerful for her to stop herself.
Instead, she lost her balance, stumbled forward, and fell to the ground.
“Hahahahahaha…”
“Oh my god, what did I just see? She actually tried to hit her!”
“She’s furious because she got exposed! Confirmed! Hahahaha…”
The surrounding crowd burst into laughter.
Bai Xuan’s mother heard the commotion and asked in confusion, “Xuanxuan, what’s happening over there?”
“Is that worthless girl refusing to give you the money?”
“Don’t worry. Mom has already found a husband for her. They’re offering a bride price of one hundred thousand yuan.”
“She’ll get married as soon as she graduates, and then we’ll use the money for your dowry…”
“Shut up!!!”
Bai Xuan’s face shifted between green and white.
She climbed awkwardly to her feet, just in time to see one of her friends turning away and leaving.
Her face burned with humiliation.
She was anxious and furious, while her mother, who knew nothing about the situation, continued pushing her deeper into the fire.
At that moment, she truly hated Fang Yiyi with all her heart.
“What kind of child talks to her mother that way?”
Fang Yiyi took several deep breaths before barely suppressing her anger.
She spoke into the phone.
“I’m not marrying him!”
“Marry your own daughter to him!”
After saying that, she ended the call forcefully.
“Remember this, Fang Yiyi!”
Bai Xuan threw out the threat, then fled in embarrassment beneath the crowd’s varied gazes.
Fang Yiyi’s eyes were red with anger.
Bai Xuan had left, but most of the surrounding students had not dispersed.
Even though their discussions had changed from condemnation to sympathy, it did not change the fact that everyone was still staring at her.
She tightened the sleeves of her uniform jacket around the bundle, lowered her head, and prepared to leave the suffocating place.
Two young women stepped out of the crowd and approached her.
They said kindly, “That looks really heavy. Let us help you.”
Even as they spoke, they had already reached out and begun lifting the bundle.
Fang Yiyi’s social anxiety flared, and she instinctively wanted to refuse.
However, she had rarely been treated kindly and did not know what to say.
Subconsciously, she also felt that refusing would be rude.
So she suppressed her discomfort and quietly thanked them.
The two girls helped her carry it all the way to her dormitory.
When they saw the number 404, they stopped without thinking.
“Student Fang, you live in Dormitory 404?”
One of the girls asked timidly.
“Mm.”
Fang Yiyi nodded.
“Well, we heard that Dormitory 404…”
The other girl looked hesitant and somewhat frightened.
“I can bring it inside myself,” Fang Yiyi said. “Thank you for walking me back.”
“Oh, you’re welcome. You’re welcome.”
The two girls hurriedly waved their hands.
“We’re all students here. It’s only right to help one another.”
“Mm… I still need to thank you. Thank you.”
Fang Yiyi twisted the fabric of her uniform jacket between her fingers and spoke awkwardly.
“I’ll go inside now. You should hurry and take care of whatever you need to do.”
“Then we’ll leave. Goodbye, Student Fang!”
“Goodbye.”
Fang Yiyi dragged the bundle into her dormitory.
“Thank you, Senior.”
The moment she returned, she immediately expressed her gratitude.
Li Ting appeared.
“Hurry and look at the clothes.”
“Okay.”
Fang Yiyi opened the bundle.
The neatly arranged stacks had come apart during the journey, leaving the clothes in a chaotic pile on top of her uniform jacket.
She pulled the jacket out and set it aside, planning to wash it later.
Li Ting selected a white floral dress and handed it to Fang Yiyi.
“Try this one.”
“Huh?”
Fang Yiyi looked surprised.
“This is for me?”
“Who else would it be for?”
Li Ting did not know whether to laugh or cry.
“Did you think I bought it for myself?”
“…They’re all for me?”
“Are you stupid?”
Fang Yiyi was stunned.
It felt as though something had struck her heart, leaving behind a painful ache that spread to the tip of her nose.
“Thank you, Senior.”
So all those clothes that seemed unbelievably extravagant to her had been purchased for her.
The image of Li Ting placing the orders without the slightest hesitation appeared in her mind.
Fang Yiyi suddenly wanted to cry.
She desperately tried to suppress it, but her tear glands refused to cooperate.
Her vision still blurred.
Li Ting found it amusing.
“You didn’t cry when you were beaten.”
“You didn’t cry when ghosts tried to kill you.”
“You didn’t even cry when your cousin bullied you.”
“But I buy you some clothes, and now you’re crying. Is it really necessary?”
“No one has ever bought clothes for me.”
Fang Yiyi’s voice was soft and sweet.
The more she spoke, the less obedient her tears became.
She wiped her eyes with the back of her hand, brushing the tears away the instant they spilled over.
However, more tears immediately rushed out after them.
No matter how much she wiped, she could not dry them.
“All right. Hurry and try it on,” Li Ting said.
“Return anything you don’t like.”
Fang Yiyi wanted to say there was nothing she disliked.
However, she was afraid that her voice would sound tearful, so she remained silent.
Since the tears refused to stop, she simply gave up wiping them away.
Sniffling and sobbing, she changed clothes.
Unexpectedly, the dress fit perfectly.
That made her want to cry even more.
Fang Yiyi grabbed her uniform jacket and fiercely wiped her eyes with it, trying to force the tears back so they would not fall onto the new clothes and dirty them.
It was the first time Li Ting had seen Fang Yiyi cry anywhere other than in bed.
She found it novel and suggested, “Why don’t you cry first and try on the clothes after you’ve had enough?”
Fang Yiyi thought about it and decided the suggestion made sense.
She pulled out a tissue and began crying loudly.
Five minutes later, Fang Yiyi was sobbing so hard that she could barely breathe.
Through her tear-blurred vision, she saw Li Ting sitting on the bed with her chin propped on one hand.
Li Ting was examining her with great interest, looking as excited as though she were observing some rare animal.
Fang Yiyi: “…”
Her tear glands suddenly returned to normal.
She used the tissue, now soaked into a wet lump, to dry her face.
After hiccupping twice from crying, she stared blankly at Li Ting.
Li Ting raised an eyebrow.
“Keep crying.”
She looked rather cute when she cried.
Li Ting had not seen enough yet.
Fang Yiyi sniffled and replied in a soft voice, “I’m finished crying…”
Then she hiccupped again.
“…”
So, so embarrassing!
“Come here.”
Li Ting beckoned to her.
Fang Yiyi did not understand, but she obediently walked over.
Before she could reach Li Ting, her wrist was seized.
The world spun.
By the time Fang Yiyi regained her senses, Li Ting had already pinned her beneath her on the bed.
Fang Yiyi wanted to speak.
She opened her mouth, only to uncontrollably hiccup twice from crying.
Covering her mouth, she whispered, “Senior, I didn’t do it on purpose.”
Li Ting curved her lips.
Her black eyes resembled bottomless abysses.
She took Fang Yiyi’s hand and guided it downward, her voice low and hoarse.
“I’ve been wet ever since you started crying.”
“Did all your tears flow down here?”
