After the Early-Deceased White Moonlight of a Wealthy Family Returns (GL) - Chapter 18
“You don’t like her?” Shen You’an asked.
Meng Dongdong glanced at Su Wu sitting in the front, then winked at Shen You’an and typed a line in her phone’s memo: 【It’s not easy to talk about right now; I’ll chat with you later.】
She didn’t want to speak ill of others right in front of Sister Su Wu. Wouldn’t that make her look bad too?
As soon as they got out of the car, Meng Dongdong made an excuse to lead Shen You’an away to see the free-roaming cats at the restaurant’s campsite, pulling her to one side.
“It’s more than just ‘don’t like,'” Meng Dongdong said, extremely resentful. “Shen Zhirou? I hate her!”
Shen You’an: “Why? Is she not a good person?”
Meng Dongdong snorted coldly, sounding quite sarcastic: “She’s double-faced. She acts sweet and obedient in front of people, but behind their backs, she ignores our group. Miss High-and-Mighty acts so arrogant~”
“Oh, I forgot to tell you, hardly anyone in our circle likes her. At least no one around me does. For some reason, she’s incredibly proud. She pretends to be gentle in front of parents, but the moment she’s with us, her tail is so high it almost touches the sky. I, Meng Dongdong, hate people like that most in my life!”
Her little round face crumpled into a ball as she leaned in to whisper in Shen You’an’s ear: “And, I heard that her family only moved to Chens City a few years ago. I don’t know where they were before, but word is she has an older sister who has never been seen. Apparently, their relationship is bad too.”
A look of satisfaction appeared on Meng Dongdong’s mischievous face: “I bet her sister doesn’t like her either.”
Shen You’an thought of the photos she had seen in her mother’s WeChat Moments. She couldn’t see any sign of the Shen Zhirou that Meng Dongdong described.
Catching the thoughtful expression on her face, Meng Dongdong sensed something was amiss and warned Shen You’an in advance: “Everyone is in the same circle, so we’ll inevitably run into each other. You’an, I’m telling you now, you’re not allowed to like her. You’re my friend now!”
Shen You’an thought that she likely wouldn’t have the chance to meet Shen Zhirou. Even if she did, she would try her best to avoid her. Thinking of Meng Dongdong’s bossy words, she chuckled: “How can I promise you that? I haven’t even had any contact with her.”
Meng Dongdong was unhappy and put her hands on her hips: “You’an, you’re my friend. I don’t like her, so you shouldn’t like her either.”
Shen You’an spoke to Meng Dongdong very seriously: “Dongdong, I’m glad you see me as a friend, but I still can’t agree to this request. Correspondingly, you can also re-evaluate our relationship based on my choice.”
Meng Dongdong was stunned: “Huh? What do you mean?”
Shen You’an explained calmly: “Dongdong, we’ve only known each other for less than a day. This relationship isn’t deep enough for your personal dislikes to influence my choice of friends, do you understand?”
Meng Dongdong understood, she understood completely. Her face flushed with heat and embarrassment. In her heart, she knew Shen You’an was right—she sounded very mature and adult-like—but she was still unhappy. It felt like the unpleasantness of having her warm enthusiasm met with a cold shoulder.
She turned her head and glared at Shen You’an: “Whatever!”
As if those words weren’t powerful enough, Meng Dongdong walked two steps away then turned back to throw a final “harsh” line: “Then go be friends with her, hmph!”
Su Wu always called Shen You’an a child and treated her like one. But now, Shen You’an felt that Meng Dongdong was the real child.
She wasn’t angry at all. In front of Meng Dongdong, she truly felt like her twenty-seven-year-old self. After all, during those ten years of disappearance, she had survived, and that experience counted for something.
“What’s going on?” Seeing Meng Dongdong return alone first, Meng Xi pulled her and asked, “Where is Xiao An?”
Meng Dongdong’s eyes were fuming: “How should I know!”
Seeing Shen You’an following closely behind, Meng Xi breathed a sigh of relief.
She understood her sister’s temper. Her gaze shifted back and forth between Meng Dongdong and Shen You’an as she asked, “Did you have a fight?”
“No!” Meng Dongdong knew she was in the wrong, so she pouted and said nothing more.
Meng Xi had a headache. Had she known Meng Dongdong was at the ranch today, she wouldn’t have brought Shen You’an. She found this little “ancestor” of her family annoying enough herself, let alone Shen You’an.
“Let’s eat first,” Meng Xi ushered the two young ones. “Old Su has already gone to the private room. Let’s go too.”
“Xiao An, let’s go.”
Shen Zhirou was heading toward the private room for her appointment when she suddenly heard something and turned around. On the small forest path across the way, the back of a girl’s figure abruptly entered her vision. Shen Zhirou froze, and without thinking, turned and ran in that direction.
But when she got there, the person was already gone.
Shen Zhirou stood in place, clenching her fists, her breathing heavy.
She closed her eyes, exhaled a long breath of turbid air, tidied her hair and clothes, and walked back toward her original destination.
Pushing open the door to the private room, an elegant man was sitting inside.
“Uncle,” Shen Zhirou greeted politely.
At the dinner table, the atmosphere was a bit awkward.
Meng Dongdong kept her head down looking at her phone, a complete 180 from her initial enthusiasm. Meng Xi looked helpless and signaled to Su Wu with her chin. Su Wu held her teacup and feigned ignorance. Shen You’an knew Meng Dongdong was angry with her, but she didn’t quite know what to do. Answering Meng Dongdong insincerely or making promises she couldn’t keep wasn’t what Shen You’an wanted.
It was a headache.
Shen You’an’s mind drifted for a second, thinking she never expected a day would come when she felt killing was easier than making friends.
“Dongdong,” Su Wu said.
Meng Dongdong looked up from her phone: “Huh?”
“I’ve saved your number in her contacts.” Su Wu pointed to the blue watch on Shen You’an’s wrist.
Meng Dongdong’s expression turned awkward as she said, “It’s fine if you don’t save it.”
“Then I’ll delete it,” Su Wu replied.
Meng Dongdong: “Ah!”
Shen You’an tugged on Su Wu’s sleeve and moved the newly arrived foie gras cream mushroom rice in front of Meng Dongdong.
Meng Dongdong: “What are you doing?”
“You said in the car that you wanted to eat this,” Shen You’an answered.
Meng Dongdong blinked. Fine, she was a “great person” with a “broad mind” and wouldn’t hold a grudge against the person across from her. Anyway, You’an didn’t know Shen Zhirou now; as long as she didn’t let them meet in the future, no one could threaten her status.
“This wasn’t ordered just for me,” Meng Dongdong said. “Bring your bowl over; I’ll scoop some for you. Where are you looking? I’m talking to you.” She snatched the bowl from in front of Shen You’an.
Shen You’an smiled and told her, “Thank you.”
Meng Dongdong looked away, muttering in her heart: This girl, if you’re saying thanks just say thanks, why do you have to smile so beautifully? I’m definitely not someone who only cares about looks!
Despite saying that, Meng Dongdong scooped an extra large portion of foie gras into Shen You’an’s bowl.
Seeing the atmosphere between the two young ones soften, Meng Xi secretly gave Su Wu a thumbs-up under the table. Su Wu continued to ignore it, raising her cup to drink tea.
When the dishes were all served, Su Wu frowned slightly: “Is this all?”
Meng Dongdong was surprised: “Sister Su Wu, the table can’t even hold any more, is it still not enough?”
Meng Xi had witnessed someone’s appetite before and understood Su Wu’s concern: “It is a bit little. Should we get more?”
Su Wu nodded and took out her phone to scan the ordering code on the table.
Shen You’an immediately reached out and covered the code: “It’s enough.”
She said righteously: “It’s plenty.”
Meng Xi: “Huh? But—”
Su Wu kicked Meng Xi under the table. Meng Xi sucked in a sharp breath.
“Then let’s leave it at this for now,” Su Wu put down her phone. She naturally picked up the plate in front of Shen You’an and served her her first lamb chop, a chicken leg, and the potatoes she liked, then ladled a bowl of soup for her.
Meng Dongdong: “…?”
She turned to look at Meng Xi, her eyes wide.
Meng Xi, with a small lamb chop in her mouth, was confused: “Why aren’t you eating? Why are you looking at me? …There’s still more on the plate, don’t think about stealing mine!”
